Using System DSN Credentials in OBIEE 10g

Hi Gurus/Experts
This is what i read in one of the blogs... that If the Shared Logon option is not selected, connections through the connection pool use the database user ID and password specified in the DSN
http://oracle-bi.siebelunleashed.com/articles/more-on-connection-pools/
Thought of giving it a try..
so created a System DSN
In Connection Pool, Disabled the shared logon and chose the ODBC 3.5 and gave the DSN name from the dropdown.
Now i am getting the below error in the Physical layer itself while viewing data...
A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: 28000 code: 1017 message: [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied.
My Question
Can we really  use the credentials from the  System DSN , if the Shared Logon is unchecked?
Note: The DSN is working fine when i test it...
Thanks
Ashish

Let me tell you what i did..
My Rpd was working fine and i had Shared Logon thing checked...
Then i read this blog... and i thought of trying it out.. ie trying to use System DSN's credentials to see data... [can we store password in System DSN?]
After that i went to the connection pool and removed username and password ( ie gave blank or null there) and unchecked the shared logon thing.
[If i am disabling the shared logon  then whether i give username, password or not should be immaterial .. right?]
Now i saved the Rpd... and then tried to view the data in physical layer ... its throwing the above error... or in other words its not taking the credentials that i had given while creating System DSN in windows [ ie in Run  type odbcad32 then that DSN stuff]
Make sure the Physical Schema in Physical Layer RPD (green folder) is same as you have schema name is Database. Its same
If this option is not selected, connections through the connection pool use the database user ID and password specified in the DSN or in the user profile.Specified in the DSN... see i mean the System DSN ie accessed in windows... and i havent given any user specific logon in OBIEE...
You can also check the checkbox for required fully qualified names..Its already done...
Let me know if you need more details
Thanks
Ashish

  • Filter on the reports created using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g

    How do i filter on the report that is created by using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g?
    I have reprot A with link to report B, report B is created using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS. so it is just a table, but i need to filter out 2 columns.
    here is the query in REPORT B:
    select strm, acad_group, crse_id, class_section, count(emplid) from v_crse_enrl
    group by crse_id, strm, class_section, acad_group;
    the link in REPORT A:
    '<a target="_blank" href="'||VALUEOF("bi_link")||'Go&Path=CF_CROSS_TEACHING_LIST&ACTION=Navigate&col1=STRM&val1='||view1_DIMEN.STRM||'&col2=CLASS_SECTION&val2='||TRIM(view1_DIMEN.CLASS_SECTION)||'">' ||view1_dimen.class_id||'</a>'
    from this link to report B.
    thank you!!

    I didnt tested using url, but the same works with using presentation variables.
    To your direct sql add where clause for those two columns like WHERE col='@{col1}' and col ='@{col2}'
    and try to run from url.

  • Cannot see System DSN in Crystal Reports 2008 on Vista/Windows 2008

    I've been making quite a bit of progress in switching migrating our Crystal Reports 8.0 reports and apps to Crystal Reports 2008 on our Windows 2008 server, but am currently stuck on a DSN issue that I hope someone here can help me out with.
    When I go to select a new ODBC data source in Crystal Reports 2008, the only ODBC data sources that show up in the list are User DSNs.  These reports will be served via our intranet website, so I need to use System DSNs.  The same is true on both my development computer running 64-bit Vista and the production server running Windows Server 2008.
    I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (C#) for development along with Crystal Reports 2008 (not the Crystal Reports Basic that comes with Visual Studio).
    How can I use a System DSN?  Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

    Hi, Paul;
    The first thing to check is to ensure you are creating a 32 bit ODBC DSN, and not a 64 bit one. Crystal Reports 2008 is 32 bit only.

  • OBIEE System DSN Confiuration issue

    Hi Experts,
    I have install OBIEE 11g on the server and after that i have install OBIEE client tools installer in the client machine,
    As i have install the OBIEE client tools in the client machine, one default system DNS has been created in the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" with the driver "Oracle BI Server". I wanted to configure this default system DNS so that i can connect with the database server.
    But When i am trying to configure the same and when i am established a connection using the the above mentioned default system dsn i am getting the error saying....."The Connection has Failed".
    Please suggest on this...

    The System DSN something ling 'coreapplication_OH500430257' is used to open RPD online mode, and nothing to do with database.
    You can go for new DSN for database by selecting specific database driver.
    if helps pls mark else let me know for any info

    Hi
    Here is the situation:

    Any idea ? Thanks for your help

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Firstly check that, your user is using domain\username to enter the credential in the dialog box.
    Now for a try, you can edit .rdp file with notepad and just place “enablecredsspsupport:i:0” line in it, save it an launch to check whether you are facing same issue.
    As you are using windows 7 then upgrade to RDP 8.1. Also as you have already enter the FQDN name of server under “Allow delegating default credentials”. For a try please enable and configure for all the remaining settings as follow and check the result.
    Start / Run / gpedit.msc / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Credentials Delegation, and make sure you have the following four options enabled and configured:
    Allow Delegating Default Credentials with NTLM-only Server Authentication
    Allow Delegating Default Credentials
    Allow Delegating Saved Credentials
    Allow Delegating Saved Credentials with NTLM-only Server Authentication
    Finally, open a command prompt and use “gpupdate /force” command to apply the policy directly.
    More information:
    Remote desktop credentials did not work
    Hope it helps!

  • How to use VBScript to access a 32bit ODBC System DSN (Excel) on a Windows 7 64bit system?

    What is the correct way to connect to a 32bit System DSN (Excel) on a Windows 7 64bit system?
    I've recently switched from Windows XP Pro x32 to Windows 7 x64.  Now, one of my scripts that uses an ODBC connection will no longer work.  After a bit of searching, I discovered that Windows 7 x64 does not currently have 64bit Excel drivers.  However, you can set up 32-bit connections by running "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe".  Unfortunately, my script still won't work even though I set up the System DSN exactly like I did on my old computer.  When I run my script, I get the following error:
    Quote:
    Script:  X\XML_Check.vbs
    Line:  212
    Char:  3
    Error:  [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application.
    Code:  80004005
    Source:  Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
    Line 212 contains:
    objConnection.Open "DSN=charge_codes_XLS;"
    It seemed to me that wscript.exe will only communicate properly with an identical environment (x32 to x32 or x64 to x64, but not x64 to x32 or x32 to x64).  With that in mind, I found a way around the error by running my script via the 32bit version of Windows Script Host.  I changed the shortcut path from "X:\XML_CHECK.vbs" to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wscript.exe X:\XML_CHECK.vbs" and the script appears to function ok.
    What I really want to know is if there is a way to run my script via the 64bit version of wscript.exe yet have it connect to the 32bit ODBC subsystem? Is there a specific connection string I can use or am I just out of luck until Microsoft puts out 64bit Excel drivers?

    I faced the same issue recently. There was a 32bit MSOffice installed on the 64bit server and the same visual basic code worked from MS Office script debugger, and did not in the cscript/wscript.
    It seems that
      - the  cscript/wscript used 64bit ODBC driver
      - the  office used     32bit ODBC driver
    Excel drivers are installed for 32bit ODBC (because of 32 bit office the ODBC manager 32bit was a full hand of drivers).
    Excel drivers are NOT installed for 64bit ODBC manager (because of 32 bit OFFICE) and can not be installed while the 32bit MS OFFICE is installed.
    The SQL drivers are installed for 64bit ODBC (so that is why the SQL connection was established well)
    The solution would be to run .js .vbs scripts in 32 bit environment:
    \windows\SysWOW64\cscript.exe or \windows\SysWOW64\wscript.exe

    Hi all,
    I have a foxpro database sitting on remote server (netware server). the dbf folder is shared and I can access it using windows explore on my weblogic server (windows 2003). I created a system dsn for that. I can access the database from the a stand alone java program using

    Connection surgConn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:FoxDB", " ", " ");
    But when I use the same thing in my weblogic 8.1 application, I cannot access the database. I didn't config any data source in weblogic 8.1
    Why?

  • Remove odbc system dsn using batch file and odbcconf

    I create user system dsn entries by using a batch file and odbcconf call.  I've found references here on how to do that, yet cannot seem to find any results on how to remove them using that same call.  The library information (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee388579(VS.85).aspx) states add and modify a system dsn for configdsn and configsysdsn and references equivalent to SQLConfgDataSource function. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms716476(VS.85).aspx) but the config data source function has a a removal and this doesn't seem too.
    Apologies for being obtuse, but I can't seem to locate it.  Any links to how this is done from a batch file are much appreciated.
    Regards,
    NR.

    John C is basically correct, you can remove a System ODBC data source via the registry, but there is apparently no way via odbcconf.exe.  That is of course really stupid and poor programming!
    John, however, forgot another important registry entry.  That key deletion he mentioned will disable the odbc connection, but not remove it entirely.  If you just do that and then open the "ODBC Data Source Administrator", you will find the
    connection is still listed, but you can't remove it or modify it.  It becomes completely screwed up! There is a value to delete as well which dictates if the connection is listed.  Consider it the "header" to the data source.
    Also, in Windows 2003 and 2008 at least, the registry key John C listed is not quite the location to modify either.  This is where to find them in those OSs:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\%DSN%
    or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI\%DSN%
    The "header" I reffered to is a string value in inside a key (not the whole key!)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources
    or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources
    The string value is the data source name.  This entry must be removed to remove the data source listing entirely.
    Here are some batch snipets for creating and then removing an odbc data source.  I'm leaving out some premiliary chunks, but you can figure it out from here. If you can't, you probably shouldn't be messing with this stuff in the first place!
    In these scripts, I create and remove a 32-bit data source in either a 32-bit or 64-bit version of windows.  The windows folder variable gets set to either "C:\Windows\System32" or "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" depending on the os.  In case you didn't
    know, on a 64-bit machine there is are also 2 differrent versions of the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" gui tool and the data source lists differ (32-bit vs 64-bit lists).  The 32-bit version on a 64 bit OS is found at "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe".
    The one in the start menu will load the 64-bit version so you will never find your 32-bit connections there.
    Note - for simplicity I use the database name as the user name and and the data source name as well (in case there was any confusion).
    Create the connection like so:
    echo Creating 32-Bit System ODBC Connection "%DatabaseName%"...
    "!WindowsFolder!\ODBCCONF.EXE" CONFIGSYSDSN "!ODBCDriver!" "DSN=%DatabaseName%;Server=localhost;Port=3306;Database=%DatabaseName%;UID=%DatabaseName%;PWD=%DatabasePassword%"
    And then remove it like this:
    echo Removing 32-Bit System ODBC Connection "%DatabaseName%"...
    if "%WindowsBits%"=="32" (
    If Exist "!TempRegFile!" Del "!TempRegFile!"
    echo Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo.>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\%DatabaseName%]>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources]>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo "%DatabaseName%"=->>"!TempRegFile!"
    regedit /s "!TempRegFile!"
    ) else (
    If Exist "!TempRegFile!" Del "!TempRegFile!"
    echo Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo.>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI\%DatabaseName%]>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources]>>"!TempRegFile!"
    echo "%DatabaseName%"=->>"!TempRegFile!"
    regedit /s "!TempRegFile!"

  • OBIEE 10g How ADD new report and use outer join

    Hi,
    I have to add a new report that use a new view...(just created in db)
    I'm new in OBIEE.. can you explain how can i do it?
    Actually:
    1. I opened administrator tool and import new view (and created an alias) in physical
    2. I built a logical table in BMM
    3. I built a new presentation table in presentation
    problem: the table in BMM have yellow icon like a fact table.. why??
    can you explain me what i have to do?
    thank you
    Edited by: 1006028 on 15-mag-2013 2.54

    By default OBIEE 10g considers a table as fact table that is dragged from physical to BMM layer. That's why you see the yellow color icon.
    If it is a dimension table, you will have to join this table with a fact table in BMM layer. After this the yellow color icon will go away.
    Pls mark correct/helpful.

  • OBIEE 10G SSO Issue

    HI
    We have configured OBIEE 10g on IIS (ver-6) server. We have a business requirement where we need to integrate OBIEE with another ASP.NET application. So, user should log in once and to view OBIEE reports he should not log in again.
    Now we have checked GO URL option given in Chapter 11 of Oracle® Business Intelligence Presentation Services Administration Guide. But problem is our company policy does not allow us to pass Password in HTTP URL. So we cannot use that solution.
    We are trying to use SSO and referred to Chapter 8 of Deployment Guide. We followed all the steps give in that chapter
    Also, we modified isapiconfig.xml and entered &lt;CredentialStore&gt; paramaters in it.
    But when we Go to Analytics URL (for remote machine) Login screen show "Not Logged In" message.
    currently we are using REMOTE_USER method as it is given in documention.
    So we did everything by the book. Now my question is:
    1) We do not have any SSO server/Product, is there is any way we can integrate OBIEE application to other ASP.Net application on another IIS SERVER? There was a suggestion that if we pass remoter_user parameter in HTTP header, is it possible to work this way.
    2) Is it possible that if we host both the ASP.NET and OBIEE 10g on SAME IIS server there is way to integrate them using SSO without any SSO server again by passing remote_user HTTP header
    3) What options do we have to integrate ASP.NET application and OBIEE without using SSO server itself and without using GO url method as we cannot pass password in header. Will Cookie Enabling Method can work in this scenerio.
    4) Is there is way that OBIEE directly take windows ID without SSO server, I know question might sound stupid as in prerequisite i read that we need “SSO system of Choice” but we need to be absolutely sure about our option and possibilities.
    we also reffered to following thread:
    10g - how to configure sso with iis-
    But, this one seems to be unresolved So kindly help
    Regards
    Saurabh

    Hi Praveen,
    Thanks for your response. I was doing a bit of R&D on SOAP API, tell me if i am wrong.
    In case we use SOAP API to Authenticate then we will get Response in terms of XML and we have to write our own code to render it in tables or charts.
    We dont want that we just want to automate the Authentication part and want to use OBIEE use Interactive Dashboards. Kindly suggest if I am wrong and if we just write a piece of Code to get the Authentication done and it will not affect the further use of OBIEE.

    Hi All,
    This question is answered.
    The Resolution is
    While Installing the RCU i created two instances so the RPD is not able to take the correct instance.After deleting the other instance now i am able to open the RPD in online mode as it is pointing to only one instance.
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

  • REDIRECT JDBC URL WHEN USING DYNAMIC JDBC CREDENTIALS SO NOT HARDCODED

    I have taken over an application that uses row-level security and ADF (using
    dynamic JDBC Credentials). I have been able to set the internal_connection to
    a JDBCDatasource, but cannot set the Connection Type in the Oracle Business
    Component Configuration to a JDBCDatasource. When I do, I receive errors that
    tables are not found. When I set the value back to a JDBC URL, everything
    works fine again.
    I am looking for a solution where the userid and password are not hardcoded in
    the BC4J.xcfg or a way to redirect this information, as we change our system
    passwords every nighty days. Otherwise, I will have to redeploy the
    application every nighty days.
    I did not create this application, but I am sure that you could simply follow
    the "How to Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials" article. From that point, you
    will probably be where I am, where I have the internal_connection set to a
    JDBCDataSource and working properly, but cannot set the Connection Type to
    anything where the userid and password will not be hardcoded or cause failure.
    I wanted to let you know that I have
    found the updated How to Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials
    (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/bc4j/howto_dynamic_jdbc.h
    tml) and was going to run through the "Advanced: Supporting Dynamic JDBC URLs",
    but once I was done keying in
    env.remove(ConnectionStrategy.DB_CONNECT_STRING_PROPERTY); I received a
    depreciation message on the DB_CONNECT_STRING_PROPERTY. (Note: I am coding in
    JDeveloper 10.1.3, so this may be depreciated as of then, but the ADF Libraries
    for JDeveloper 10.1.3 are on our Oracle 10gAS 10.1.2 server.)
    I thought maybe this would resolve my issue, but I can't be sure as the
    deprecation message leads me to believe that this solution may not be viable in
    the future.
    UPDATE
    =======
    The article you are referencing is definitely an older version.
    There is a newer article for 10g at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/dynamicjdbchowto.html
    Please see if that helps.
    I have already reviewed this article.
    In fact, I have reviewed many versions of this document. I have not seen one
    created yet for 10.1.3 though (especially without JSF as our 10.1.2 AS server
    will not support it). I need to find an example or documentation that shows
    how we can keep from having the JDBC URL stored in the BC4J.xcfg or a way to
    use dynamic JDBC credentials with a JDBCDataSource. We do not want to store
    the userid and password in the application, rather, we would like to setup
    something that can be configurable from the application server.
    I think we need to use the dynamic JDBC credentials because we are using the
    row-level security, where we setup a database context for the user and only
    allow certain records of a database table to be returned to the browser based
    on that context.
    Might there be a way to still use the JDBCDataSource?

    I understand that the user provides the userid and password and that these values are setup using the Configuration class.
    However, when I am to deploy the ADF Business Module with my application, I have to specify either a JDBC URL or a JDBC DataSource in the Oracle Business Component Configuration.
    When I use JDBC DataSource, the code does not work properly, almost like the user's credentials are not used for the connection (I get errors like table or view does not exist).
    When I use the JDBC URL, the bc4j.xcfg stores a reference in the JDBCName attribute to a ConnectionDefinition in the same file. It is in this tag of the bc4j.xcfg where the userid, sid, and password (encrypted) is stored and used when retrieving the initial context of the ADF business components.
    It is these values that I want to have stored else where so that the application does not have to be redeployed in order for the password (or sid, or other connection information) to be change.

  • Write back  issue in obiee 10g

    Hi all,
    While updating data in DB using obiee 10g i am getting an error system is not able to read the template while updating.
    i have put the template in \OracleBI\web\msgdb\customMessages folder . Can anyone please suggest what might be the problem .
    below is the XML template i am using.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <webMessageTables xmlns:sawm="com.siebel.analytics.web/message/v1">
    <webMessageTable lang="en-us" system="writeBack" table="Messages">
    <webMessage name="WriteBack_Update">
    <XML>
    <writeBack connectionPool="WBC">
    <insert></insert>
    <update>UPDATE test SET COL3='@{c2}' WHERE COL1=@{c1}</update>
    </writeBack>
    </XML>
    </webMessage>
    </webMessageTable>
    </webMessageTables>
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Insert query is not mandatory.
    But you need to include a space between <insert> </insert>. So that s how it works. Check the xml with space in between the insert tag and it will work fine.
    This will resolve your problem. Please award if its helpful/useful to you.
    Regards
    MuRam
