Using the personal hotspot feature on the iPhone 5, I am able to connect to the internet.  We also use Juniper NCP client to access our local system from a remote location.  A VPN connection is created, but I am unable to access servers in our network.  This same functionality works using my colleagues iPhone 4.
Both phones are running iOS 6.1.3.  I tried to reset network settings, but still unable to ping servers in our network.  This is a feature that our sales team relies heavily on when out of the office.  Hoping someone has some suggestions on what is different between the 2 phones.

Hi,
Generally, this issue should be related with something called split tunneling, since you’re using a F5 vpn client, you need to look for something related to split tunneling in the F5 VPN client's documentations.
Here is an example, share it with you as a reference.

  • I want to block or possible delete the personal hotspot feature from an iPhone 5

I Have an iphone 5 on a verizon network plan in which I would like to block/ possibly delete the personal hotspot feature. I have a person on my family plan that is eating up all the data using personal hotspot to get internet on an iPad. I still want this person to have access to  4G for gps/emailing purposes, I just don't need him eating up all the data using the personal hotspot feature. So, does anybody know how to block it or restrict the use of it? I've already tried looking on the iphone itself, but no luck. Looked on Verizon website, no such thing either. Any help is appreciated!!

Call Verizon and ask them to block the feature as sberman suggests. You can't access all features from the website. Some of them require that you talk to a rep.

  • IOS 8.0.2 broke the personal hotspot feature

I have an unlocked iPhone 5S purchased from Apple direct at full price.  The hotspot feature always worked on iOS 7.x.  I recently "upgraded" (read downgraded) to iOS 8.0.2 and my personal hotspot feature has simply disappeared.  It does not appear where it is supposed to be.  It is not there at -> Settings "Perosnal Hotspot" and it is also not there under -> Settings -> Cellular or -> Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Network
(As shown here it simply does NOT appear at all: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/23/how-to-use-the-ios-8-hotspot/)
Some have suggested that "maybe a carrier update did this".  It's alarming to think that a "carrier" could "update" my phone to remove vital features when I have an unlocked phone purchased outright at full price from Apple and I am using it with a no contract SIM.  How this carrier could be allowed to damage my phone by disabling features is beyond me but even so I know this isn't the case because:
    1) Others with the same carrier still have the feature.
    2) By screwing around with network settings reset, and Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Network -> Reset Settings sometimes I get it to reappear especially after i enter some garbage data at Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Network: PERSONAL HOTSPOT "APN" "Username" and "Password" and then doing another Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Network -> Reset Settings.  It appears on the screen Settings -> Cellular -> Personal Hotspot and it's disabled.  But when I turn it on it disappears again.
    Another horrific iOS 8.0.x bug...

I have also Iphone 5 , also also updated on IOS 8.0.2 few days ago but yesterday i also have this same problem of broken personal hotspot when i was needed, so i seached and seen you post but for me it is benificial that i tried and now fixed the problem, i know this is a bug of IOS 8 but what to do now let's see in future when apple fix it.i did same process like you ....settings....cellular,,,,,cellular data network and in the personal hotspot APN username and password submitted any thing then i return to main then i did reset settings in the cellular data network. i think it is not neccessary to do this reset.
i found personal hotspot in the...... cellular ...and then i switch off and on it was working and then i return back to.... settings....and hotspot was there like before and its functioning like in IOS 7.
    Thanks a lot

  • I'm using iphone4 5.0.1 in melbourne(Optus). The personal hotspot cannot work?

    What can I do?

According to this list, Optus supports the Personal Hotspot feature. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
Do you pay for a tethering plan? Generally speaking, the carrier must support it. It will be enabled when you add tethering to your plan. Your account must be provisioned specifically for an iPhone.

  • Can somebody tell me where can I find the "Personal Hotspot" in the new version of iOS 8?

    Hi dears,

Does your carrier support that feature on the iPad?

  • My location services are frozen. Can I use my personal hotspot to backup and restore my phone?

My iPhone 4S was upgraded from the 6.1.2 to 6.1.3 and I expierenced a major malfunction. Immeadily after the upgrade my daughter installed a 4 shared app then she went on line and downloaded AppCaster. The AppCaster crashed then my google latitude app crashed. Now my location services are frozen. Is there any way I can back up and restore my iPhone using my personal hotspot. I can't get to a public hotspot to use my icloud backup?

one cant use the personal hotspot feature to restore the device coz the phone will d/connect as soon the restoration process is underway. you will need a PC/laptop t ocomplete this process,in case you dont then ,maybe go to the apple store and request them to restore it for you from icloud

  • HT204023 Can you use the personal hotspot on the iPhone 4 with an iPad 4th generation ?

Can I use the personal hotspot on the iPhone 4 with the iPad 4th generation which only has wifi ?
Thank you in advance for your help :)

Unlimited Internet is different than the carrier supporting the hotspot feature. I don't have an iPhone or an iPad with cellular. My limited knowledge about the hotspot is from reading support articles about it and from what I have read here in the forum.
I don't know that circumstances with the carriers have changed, but initially, the was an extra cost to enable the hotspot feature on the iDevice. I believe that Verizon was charging an additional $20 per month for the feature. Check out the support article that I posted above.
This is copied from that article that I posted above.
Note: If you do not see the option for Personal Hotspot, confirm with your carrier that this feature is supported and your wireless plan is configured for Personal Hotspot. For additional troubleshooting, see this article.

I've been using my personal hotspot between my iPhone and iPad, but I don't believe I've changed anything with my phone contract, will I be charged on my next bill?

Depends on whether your carrier supports Personal Hotspot & how/if they charge for this feature. Some carriers include Personal Hotspot as part of your data plan, some require it be provisioned on your account. Contact your carrier & see what their requirements are. The fact that you have the Personal Hotspot setting indicates your carrier supports this feature.

  • Rogers is saying that IOS4 won't allow use of the personal hotspot with a plan of less than 1GB data.  I say it's a policy of theirs, not an iOS restriction.  Anyone know the truth?

I call BS but the tech guy was insistent that the iPhone can detect what plan I have and won't enable the feature and there's nothing they can do about it, short of selling me a larger data plan...

Actually it does.  It's wrong to lie to a customer.  By blaming Apple, they shift the blame and make it seem like there is nothing they can do about it.  If they admitted it was their policy, I could complain and try to get it changed or I could move to another carrier.
If a person killed someone and blamed it on a heart attack, the person is stil dead, does it matter? Either way they're dead, right...  (extreme, I know, but illustrating a point)
    Wow.
It is certainly Rogers policy and is not unusual at all among carriers.
Seems like a non-issue to me, but apparently being "lied to" ( perhaps the employee was simply mistaken, it happens) is a major deal to you.

What phone company do you use. There needs to be more information about what is exactly going wrong. Becasue if you are in the USA then the hotspot feature can be turned off and on by the carrier, Such as what Verizon does, if you do not pay for the feature. If that is not the issue then there would have to be a software problem, which there are a few solutions to. One being take it to the apple store and letting them fix it, if it is not an issue with your phone company

  • I can no longer connect to the internet on my laptop using my personal hotspot. Stopped working all of a sudden. Any tips as to why?

I used to always use my personal hotspot and connect to the internet on my laptop. Then one day it stopped working. I updated my phone so my hotspot password changed, so I changed that in the properties. It now says it's connected to my iPhone and there's internet access, but when I try to do anything it says not connected.

It shows a connection. When using wifi n USB. I don't know how to connect using Bluetooth seeing what it says to do is totally different from my computer.
I do have a connection but I can only connect to some sites, I tried YouTube n nfl.com n they both worked but google, hotmail n Facebook said couldn't connect.
I tried using safari on my computer n like explorer I could only connect to a few different websites.

  • I have iPhone 4 and I update it to iOS 7 and when I try to start the personal hotspot it crashed and for sometime my cellular data was also not working then allot a sudden the personal hotspot icon disappeared from my settings

I have iPhone 4 and I update it to iOS 7 and when I try to start the personal hotspot it crashed and for sometime my cellular data was also not working then allot a sudden the personal hotspot icon disappeared from my settings.
Has anyone faced a problem like this!!!

No. If you go Settings App > General > Reset > "Erase All Content and Settings", you will have the same iOS that was on the iPhone when you tapped the Erase button. If you believe your iPhone is Jailbroken, then this will not work. If you use iTunes on computer, this will put iPhone to current iOS which is iOS 7.0.2

Do you pay for a tethering plan? This is a feature that has to be activated by your carrier and is generally NOT free.

  • TS2756 Using the personal hotspot

I just got an iPhone 5 and want to disconnect internet service since I can use the personal hotspot.  My friend's laptop will connect, but mine won't unless I use the USB connection.  Any thoughts?

    Hey rjnelson,
I see you came from the iOS: Troubleshooting Personal Hotspot, which is applicable to the issue you describe. If you haven't already, I would run through the steps within that article, specifically the following:
Try disabling and reenabling Personal Hotspot from Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > General > Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
Install the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If none of the previous steps resolves your issue, restore the iPhone.
