Using TLF in Indesign

Hi - I've been reading that there is now more fidelity in text between Indesign and Flash, starting from FP10, when we use the TLF. Can you send me some sample code(Javascript way or Java way) of how to use the TLF in indesign server? I know that we can extract the text manually from TLF and apply the text to the textframe in an indd file but I want to use a TLF directly in a textframe in indesign.
If possible, Is this vailable with Indesign server CS4?

I have followed the steps outlined at http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/tlf/Using+TLF+with+Flex+3.2 to import TLF to user with SDK 3.5. I have verified that I have the latest swc. I get no compile erros but at runtime I get
VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flashx.textLayout.elements::TextFlow could not be found

I have never use TLF with SDK 3.5.
After reading what you have said, I guess you are setting SWCs in your project as "runtime shared Library", but there is not a RSL link( or not a correct RSL link) in the configuration file named flex-config.xml in SDK 3.5, to download the SWF or SWZ successfully in the runtime. You may solve the problem by setting libraries as "merge into code"

Apply embedded fonts to special characters in spark textArea using tlf

By setting fontfamily directly to textarea in mxml fonts get applied to special characters. But using tlf and setting fontfamily it does not apply.

The situation:
I want to use basetext font, but some of the glyphs are missing in it, and are highlighted with pink boxes. common font [stix, etc.] have much more glyphs than basetext font. I can apply common font [stix, etc.]manually for each of the missing glyphs or insert two character and use kerning set it up, but it is tedious.
Question:
How find the missing glyph using javascript [like indesign preflight], and replace same glyph available font or insert two character and use kerning set it up?
Any one know how to do this?

Best equation tool to use in Adobe Indesign CS6

Hi,
Can anyone tell me which is the best built in equation tool to use for Adobe Indesign CS6?
I would like to be able to create the equation within my document and NOT save the equation as a file and then paste the equation into the document. The equation tool will also need to be able to create complex equations.

I ran a test with ProRes 24, 25 & 29fps as well as the Red footage in the same timeline. I exported from a 1080 sequence created by a prores422 24fps clip (by using the new item button as suggested). I exported with the following settings...
H.264
HD 1080p 23.976
1920x1080
progressive

Level: 4.2
Render at Max depth
Bitrate encoding: VBR 2Pass
Target BR: 20 Mbps
Max BR: 50 Mbps
And from what I can tell it all looks pretty darn good. I can see slight differences in 24 and 25. And certainly with the 29 and red footage. But it was never all mean to match seamlessly, as different sequences in the film have different looks. It just shouldn't look like a hot mess. I'm not positive yet, as I need to run more tests as footage comes in. but this may have done the trick. I'll keep updating... thanks !

Extracting an image data merge field using only an indesign file and not document.dataMergeProperties.dataMergeFields

Hi,
I have kind of a weird requirement but I hope you guys can help out.
I need to extract all the custom fields used in an indesign file without referencing the dataMergeProperties of a document. Sorry if this is a weird request it is just what I've been told (our system needs to not crash when people upload a variety of in design documents to generate high resolution jpg preview documents).
I can already get all the text custom fields by looking for "<<" and ">>" in the text frames of a document but I'm having a really hard time finding the image custom fields.
I tried looking at the rectangles for a given page but that didn't seem to help (but maybe i'm missing some there). I also tried looking at the graphics and images collection of a document but this seemed to return only graphics that are hard coded on the in design document and not the custom image fields.
Any help would be appreciated!

Found the answer after I realized I was looking at the wrong SDK (5.0 instead of 6.0)
I'm using the doc.hyperlinkPageItemSources property to get these images. It also looks like you can get the image data merge fields from DataMergeImagePlaceholder (but rememeber I couldn't access this).

You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion.

Back-saving Adobe CC / CS6 InDesign files for use in Adobe InDesign CS3?

I am currently running Adobe CS3 on a Macintosh computer / OS. Is it possible to back-save Adobe CC / CS6 InDesign files for use in Adobe InDesign CS3?

@kc.k – You will need InDesign CS4 for that.
CS4 is the only version, that can export/import both IDML and INX exchange formats.
And you need an exported INX file (from InDesign CS4) that can open your exported IDML file from CS6, CC or CC-2014.
Since you are still running CS3 I'd suggest you downloading a 30days version of CS4 and do the conversion:

AntiAliasing broken when using TLF with HtmlText

Hey Guys, I'm struggling with two issues using TLF within Flash CS5.
1) I'm unable to get Anti-aliasing to work when using TLFTextFields in combination with htmlText.
If I draw a TLFTextField on the stage within Flash IDE and set its Anti-aliasing to Readability then it will anti-alise correctly. If i dynamically change the .text property via AS3, then it still remains crisp, however If i change its .htmlText property Anti-aliasing is disabled and the text looks jagged.
e.g.

What is the best way to achieve Anti-aliasing this way?
The same happens if I set a tlfMarkup and specify a TextFlow with styling.
Also how am I able to change weight when using TextFlow? If I have Century Gothic Regular and Bold each embedded within my library, and exported for Actionscript using DF4, which works using the above htmlText example, how do I get Bold to work using the below example?

I can successfully use embedded fonts when using TextConverter.importToFlow(markup, TextConverter.PLAIN_TEXT_FORMAT); however as soon as I switch to using TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FORMAT the embedded fonts no longer work. Does anyone know how to overcome this?

I think both issues you're seeing are the same problem, as I believe the htmlText property uses the TextFieldHTML filter. But I haven't been able to reproduce either issue yet.
When I set htmlText using the same font as I specified on the stage (or I omit the font tag entirely) I'm seeing antialiased text. If I use a font in the markup that's different than what I specified on the stage I'm getting a fallback font that's antialiased. The fact that I get a fallback font (even when I specify a font I have installed) suggests to me that it's still trying to use an embedded font after the htmlText property is set.
What happens for you if you do not have a font tag in your HTML? If that looks better there may be a mismatch between font names between the markup and embedding.

How do I use Dropbox with InDesign?

I want to use InDesign with Dropbox so that multiple people can access the InDesign file and pictures. I already know that it not possible for two people to edit at once so that is not my problem. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on how to structure the shared Dropbox folder so that the links to images are preserved when people open it on different computers. Any other tips concerning Dropbox and InDesign are also welcome!

As you probably know, dropbox is a sync based service. You create a folder inside dropbox area and dropbox will automatically upload it to their cloud. If you change something and save, dropbox syncs your local and remote files immediately. If you shrare that folder with other dropbox users, dropbox will copy that folder to their computers as well. Here comes the dangerous part... Two people can actually work at the same time with same file because they are using local copy of the file, but when they save they work, later save will overwrite the first save when dropbox syncs the files to server. Fortunately there's some version controlling in dropbox's dashboard but it can still cause a big headache...

Why can't I use the CS5 inDesign that I purchased?

Five months ago, I bought a new iMac. It took weeks to transfer or install my old software onto this new computer (because the new iMacs no longer have disc drives and most of the original software was installed from discs). Finally I got it to the point where everything works OK. Except for inDesign CS5. I ended up having to buy an external disc drive so I could see if I installed the software using the original disc it would work.
Still -- when I attempt to open a new inDesign document, I get the endless spinning wheel. When I attempt to open a document that was created in CS5, I get a message saying that I will need additional plugins and that the only way I can open this document is if I subscribe to CS6 by paying the Adobe monthly fee for the rest of my life.
So, I give up -- because I figure this is a dictatorship of the corporations and Apple has conspired with Adobe to trick people into buying new computers while telling them that they will be able to use them with the old software, when in fact they will be forced to buy the new Adobe monthly subscription (whether you can afford it or not).
I give up on trying to work on my new Apple computer and I re-install the old inDesign CS5 software on my old computer (where I had deactivated CS5). But again, same message when I attempt to open documents that were created in inDesign CS5 and never opened by any version other than CS5: You cannot open this document without the necessary plugins, which can only be had by subscribing to the monthly fee to get CS6.
So, now this is beyond the normal capitalist system of corporate illegal activity. This is outright theft. Even in third world countries, corporations give you something for your money.

Can't help with the error, but you don't need discs to install CS5, you can just download the trial and use your serial number to activate.

Not able to create a plugin using Dollyxs in Indesign CS4 SDK (windows)

I am a beginner in Indesign plugin development.
I have installed Indesign sdk cs4 and Indesign CS4.I have j2re1.4.1_01.
I have created SampleProject/SampPro/Project, Source , Resource folders in
Indesign cs4 sdk folder.
When I enter all information in Dollyxs Batch file for creating a new
plugin and click ok the project, source, resource files are not getting
generated. But only in the cmd.exe there are some lines printed.
Can anybody help me abt sample plugin Dvelopment using Dollyxs.
Is am I missing something.
