Using VB API to Extract data

Hi Experts
I ahve migrated data of one database into another and need to check whether whole data is migrated successfully and correctly. I was thinking of using Excel Macros with VB APIs to extract all level 0 data into a tabular format and then compare. Is my approach correct?
Is there any other method to compare data between two databases?
I have never developed any API based application from scratch..and need some guidelines for the same. All sort of help welcomed

A buddy of mine and poster to this board, Dave Farnsworth, has an Excel module that does exactly this in Excel -- he's almost got it ready for freebie release.
If you can wait a week or so (I know, I know, you can't) I'll have his add-in up on my blog.

I have used a beta version of the tool -- it is freaking awesome -- you define the two databases, do a retrieve in the first sheet and the tool does the retrieve of the second database and then identifies differences. It's very, very flexible and easy to use. Yes, I am a big fan.

I have a customised form which contains main fields (i.e 20 fields) and when a field is changed, it's being recorded in the audit log.

Using Toplink API to persist data to database

My requirement is to persist data to the database (oracle) using Toplink Java API approach.

The issue is with the line:
databaseSessionImpl.beginTransaction();Since you began the transaction yourself you must also commit it. The easiest solution is to remove the above line and allow the UnitOfWork to begin and commit the transaction itself.

SAP ECC 6.0 - Using BAPIs for C# to extract data out

I have had a client recommend a strategy of extracting data usin C# (Visual Studio 2005) to extract data from SAP ECC using BAPIs.
We do have an existing methodology in place using flat files to extract data to non SAP systems
We have purchase XI which we intend to implement next year.
I basically wanted to keep things tidy and continue with the flat file interface strategy just to keep things simple going forward to XI.
THen there is also the security piece, the developer has had to slowly build a profile / roles that alows him to come in thru visual studio to access these BAPIs
I am looking for anyone who has had experience with this and what your experiences are. As well, what are the SAP best practicies concerning this strategy

I think that SAP's strategy toward exposing BAPI is leaning toward leveraging their AS-JAVA stack. With the AS-JAVA Enterprise Services and standard delivered web content, SAP is already exposing many existing BAPI/Business Functionality outside of the ABAP world. However, that's not saying that traditional flat files have no place in the future. Matter of fact, I don't see flat/delimited files going away any time soon.
It all really comes down to what you are doing, you may even end up with a landscape that's a mix of files/RFCs. Here inhouse, we leverage file based transfers for large data sets such as SAP BI OHS extracts, and daily R/3 FI extracts. Why file? because it's simple, easy to control, and you can see the data being transferred. A file can be "hold in my hands" if you will, at best there's just a few characters in-flight.
As for RFCs, any type of RFCs in fact (Anything from sap .net connector to AS-JAVA ESOA Based ES), are basically designed for transactional data. Here, you are looking at things that are high in transactional count but small in individual size. Your client's call using C#, it all really depends on how you are doing it. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Make sure you are using a proven, standarized, and SAP supported way, PERIOD. NEVER EVER go into production with a "hack".
For the high-transactional-count-small-individual transactions, we leverage BizTalk Server (BTS) here. I'll be frank, we are not using BTS because we wrote it. We are using BTS because it just works better for us, in our environment. BTS now support SAP 2.0 connector (registered program ID) and SAP 3.0 (WCF based, direct SAP RFC call, supported by Microsoft AND SAP). We are leveraging these adapters and BTS (as distribution and transformation) in our environment more and more.
So, long story short: Determine the transaction type, multiple solutions is ok, make sure the solution is supported!

Problem extracting data using 0EC_PCA_3 datasource

I'm facing an embarassing problem, and hope you can help!
I'm using datasource 0EC_PC_3 to extract data from GLPCA (ECC table) into a BI DSO. My probleme is that when i try to extract all data for a specific profit center group (or customer) i'm not getting data related to fiscal period biger than 10. When i add a filter on account number (on infopackage selection criteria) for example it's getting all data with no probleme in fiscal period!!
Any body has faced this error or something like it?

At datasource level (0EC_PCA_3), i'm not getting data as it should be !!!
When, whitin my infopackage, i specify the profit center, data are retreived correctly, otherwise i'm not getting all data!!!

How to extract data from PCD tables to create custom activity report

I have a requiremnt for creating custom portal activity report, even though we have
standard report for that, we need to extract the data from the following pcd tables
WCR_USERSTAT, WCR_WEBCONTENTSTAT,WCR_USERFIRSTLOGON,
WCR_USERPAGEUSAGE.
This extraced data will be used to create BW Reports.
my questions are
1.How to extract the data from   pcd tables?
2.can i use   UME API   for extracting the data from the given PCD tables?
3.Can i querry   the PCD tables from JSPdynpage or Webdynpro APP?

How to extract data from a resultset returned by SQLX query

Hi all,
I'm doing a project in which I use SQLX query to extract data and format it into xml from an object-relational database, and return it to a windows application. But when the resultset is returned, I don't know how to extract and display the data from it. The datatype of returned data might be XmlType, but i don't know how to process it..Can anyone help? Error while extracting data into 0GL_ACCOUNT

Hi all,
        Initialize delta Process has been done successfully for extracting data into 0GL_ACCOUNT using DataSource 0GL_ACCOUNT_ATTR.
However when using Delta Update for extracting data, the following error is displayed: 'ALE change pointers are not set up correctly' & is asking to activate the change pointer in BD61(Source System).
I am not exactly sure of what i am supposed to do in BD61. Plz help.

What is Invalid header signature error while using POI API

Extract data from Essbase using APIs

Hi All
I was going through the API documentation for Essbase and data extraction from Essbase using API.
It seems APIs make use of Report script to extract data from Essbase. This would increae the overhead of writing a report script everytime you need to extract data from Essbase.
Is there any other method to extract/export whole or specific data from essbase using APIs?
How does Excel Add-in retrieves data from essbase without any report script?
Can Provider services be helpful in any way to achieve this?

Its hard to say if there is a faster way without knowing how you're doing it now. A few questions:
- why are you using the API to get at Essbase Data, especially if you've already defined a (some) report scripts?
- if you want to use provider services, vs having to ensure all the libraries and the client are present, why not use the JAPI?
- Without seeing your code, its hard to know why you're getting out of memory errors. What are you doing with the data as you're parsing it from the report?
Grid API exists for the C API, and more noteable the JAPI, but not VB(I'm surprised the VB api still exists).
Why not just use the Java API?
