Using volume wheel

I have a volume wheel on my laptop and an trying to configure the system to use it to change the volume.  I use ratpoison as a GUI, does anyone know how to bind the volume wheel?

Why can't you use xev in ratpoison?
Anyways, I messed up in my previous post, the configuration should be:
definekey top XF86AudioLowerVolume exec amixer -q set Master 1- unmute
definekey top XF86AudioRaiseVolume exec amixer -q set Master 1+ unmute
See the wiki if this still doesn't work: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Extra_Keyboard_Keys.

  • NOKIA BH-111 : Increase volume using volume wheel ...

    Hello,
My name is Sonus Sundar, Last month I bought Nokia BH-111 bluetooth headset. After using it for a month, Now I am not able to increase the volume of the device with the volume wheel.
I increased the volume in phone to its extent. But when I hear it from the blutooth it is twice as low as I connect the headphone directly to the phone using the headphone jack.
But there is no other issue in connecting the device or charging it.

Okay, have this little sucker so I'll answer it for myself. RDS doesnt seem to have support for radio text, it only displays names of radio stations, btw. FM reception seems to be very good.
No problems with Nokia N80. Can even stream music from phone to the headset in stereo mode, but the quality isnt very good, apparently because of bluetooth 1.1 spec of the phone.
Havent tried much FM radio recording, but after starting recording software phone makes active connection with the headset which stops to play radio and switches to "voice" mode.
Pairing after turning on the unit takes only few seconds.

  • Volume Wheel Fault/Issues Anyone?

I'm a proud UK new owner of an ipad (64GB wifi+3G), which like most of us, I find astonishing and already fell in love with it after just ten minutes use.
But I have one small problem: I cannot get the volume wheel on the side of the device to work properly.
No matter what way i turn it, up or down, it always turn the volume UP!
Pressing it inwards appears sometimes to mute the volume, but the only way i can reduce the volume down is to go into either the on screen volume (if I'm using the ipod or Video apps) or into the Sounds setting in the Settings app if I am running an app with built in sound which has no volume adjuster built into it.
Am i doing something wrong,or has anyone else experienced this problem?
    And ideas or suggestions please?
    Thanks

If you are pressing the top of the volume rocker (not a wheel) to increase volume and the bottom to decrease volume then you are not doing anything wrong.
If you are trying to spin it like a wheel, then yes. That is wrong.

  • [SOLVED][Toshiba Laptop] Volume Wheel never stops generating events

I have this volume wheel on my laptop which I like to use to control the volume of the audio on my laptop. However I run into a problem:
The Good  => Using xev I verified that It does generate keypress and keyrelease events (two different ones for either up or down). I would still have to remap those to XF86VolumeLower and such...
The Bad => Once I turn the wheel  I keep getting keypress/keyrelease events continously even after I've stopped turning it...
The Ugly = > this makes it completely not usable.
Anyone seen this problem before? I googled around, most people seemed to have a problem getting events from volume wheels...
    Edit:
Sorry for editing such an old post. This got fixed in udev-159-1.

I'm still having this issue running the latest kernel and xorg. Since the event seems to be reported by xorg, would this most likely be a xorg bug or misconfiguration (and such should I report it as a bug to xorg)?

  • Volume wheel on Toshiba Portege M700-S7005X doesn't work

I had to reinstall windows on my computer, and everything works perfect, except for the fact that my volume wheel no longer does anything. I have to adjust volume using the system slider. Anyone know how to get my wheel working again? Thanks!
    -Daniel

Thanks for your answers so far.
    @Xaver:
No I have win 7 clean install (instead of Vista), which is the reason I tried the workaround I linked to.
    @nifer:
No yellow bangs in the device manager, and, even more important only one entry called something like "Toshiba virtual modem" under "modem" in the device managaer (I thinkthat the four entrys for the 3g moduldrivers should be under "modem" in the device manager)
    - Is it possible to check this powerrail without having to disassemble the whole notebook? Where is the modul located?
@xardas: I think it has, at least the guy who sold me the (used) notebook said so. The model Number begins with ppm70e, which I believe is the specific model of m700. There also is a sticker with a "wireless WAN IMEI" and a number at the backside and a slot for the sim-card behind battery-pack, which both would be very suspicious for a notebook not having a 3G modul.

  • [SOLVED] Volume Wheel on Laptop Not Working

Hello everyone, installed arch for the first time a couple days ago and have pretty much everything setup to the way I like. However, I can't seem to find how to get my laptop's volume wheel to work. Sliding the wheel simply doesn't do anything.
I've looked around on the wikis and haven't been able to find anything.

I'm using openbox. Found a previouse forum post detailing how to find the correct key and then I stuck that in my rc.xml for openbox.

  • "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" is broken

    Hello,
Since updating to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion this morning, the "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" feature is broken.
In the mouse control panel the checkbox for "Zoom using scroll wheel while holding" is definitely checked. The default Control ^ key is selected. I verified I'm hitting the correct key on the keyboard using the keyboard viewer.
I've tried using this with 2 finger scrolling on my trackpack as well. I've also tried turning off most of the trackpack geustures.
I tried searching these forums prior to posting and found replies telling people with various different situations to turn this feature off. I want it on. I use it constantly.
    I have a MacBook Pro Aluminum 13-Inch Mid 2010
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7 (11A511)
    Any advise would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

Hello. Original poster here. I can confirm a few things after observing for a few days and trying stuff.
    1) The Universal access fixes did nothing. I set & reset those settings til I was blue in the face.
    2) I tried a "Repair Permissions" with the Disk Utility. No luck.
    3) It works intermitently. After sleeping sometimes it works. After plugging into my external monitor sometimes it works on the external monitor but then if I unplug it won't work again. After a reboot somtimes it works, then after sleeping stops working. Kinda strange. When it works it works from both my external USB mouse and the trackpad, so I don't think it's the hardware.
I don't have Time Machine configured - been using Carbonite, but they're not compatible with Lion so might have to get Time Machine running anyway - but it's not a fix per se, since this oughta work all the time.

  • G20 - Problems with volume wheel

My volume wheel isn't working as it should, when i'm trying to turn the volume down, it jumps up again. same when turning up, it's jumping down. To turn it up or down i have to turn and turn and turn before it moves. If I'm turning the sound up its like it's moving 1 up, 1 down, 1 up, 1 down, 2 up, 1 down... and so on.
Does anyone have any solution for this problem? It's like this in Qosmio player and Windows.
    Truls

    Hi again
I am not technician but according to your explanation I believe that there is mechanical problem with volume control dial. On this way we can just speculate but just intensive check can give you an precise answer.
In my opinion you should contact Toshiba service partner in your country and explain them the situation. Sorry but I dont see any other solution.
If the warranty is still valid the repair will be for free. If you need ASP address you can find it under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true
    Bye and good luck!

  • Can I use volume purchase program for inApp purchase?

I want to offer an upgrade for my app which will be free? I also support some educational institutes which buy apps with volume purchase program. I need to know if it is possible to do a bulk in app purchase using Volume purchase program.

In-app purchases are not currently available through the VPP. Whether Apple will ever come up with a system to allow VPP in-app purchases I can't guess. You may want to consider making a "premium" version of your app that includes what would normally be an in-app purchase and then make that version available via the VPP.

  • Any way to shake or use volume button to wake up iphone?

Hi, my power button is dead and home button not reliable anymore
I wondering if there is another way to wake it up, like shaking or using volume
    Thanks

You're talking about Android features which are not present on iOS devices. The only way to wake up is with power button or the home button. The volume buttons won't do anything to wake the phone up. You may want to get that button fixed soon to avoid dealing with this issue. Some iphones have a sleep/wake button recall.

  • XFCE's mixer plugin stops at 90% when using scroll wheel over icon

Yeah, title says it.  By putting the cursor over the icon and using the scroll wheel, the volume goes up to 90%.  But when I open the mixer and drag the master slider, it goes to 100%.  How do I fix this?

Had the same Problem, was really annoying me. Probably a baaad baad bad workaround:
    in src/xfce4-mixer-4.6.0/panel-plugin (ABS / xfce4-mixer)
    changed xfce-volume-button.c, line 204 & 205:
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.0, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    to
/* Create adjustment for the button (from 0.0 to 1.0 in 5% steps) */
    button->adjustment = gtk_adjustment_new (0.0, 0.0, 1.1, 0.05, 0.05, 0.1);
    rebuild, done.
I've been searching for a while for the real problem, but I'm no programmer. Looks as if somewhere someone perhaps startet counting at 1% instead of 0% or something, but I've got no idea where.
(useless EDIT: Seems as if someone already fixed it in the newest version available in ABS since I changed it on my machine. Wait, trying...
EDIT: Nope, still only works up to 90% in current ABS version I think - might have just forgotten to re-extract the source of the panel after update. Redoing the "bad fix" got it to 100% again though.)

  • [SOLVED] XFCE - Lack of audio control via laptop's volume wheel.

This doesn't really bother me much, but I've been curious for a while, so I may as well just ask.
In a gnome-session I am able to control my master volume with a little scrolling wheel built into the front of my laptop. This same wheel has no effect in xfce/openbox/awesome or anything else I've tried. I had a look at gnome's startup applications and found the commands 'gnome-sound-applet' and 'start-pulseaudio-x11' in there. I can start both in xfce/openbox/awesome, the former allows me to control the volume with an icon in the corner, but there's still no use for the scroll wheel.
Again, I'm only asking because I'm curious, but does anyone know of a program I can install or possibly a setting I could edit to give XFCE this same (admittedly frivolous) feature?

  • Using a mac OSX and a logitech M-UAG120 mouse, how do I use the wheel button to open a link in a new tab (but not switch to it)? Can't type a key in box.

In the logitech control center I've clicked on my mouse (tilt wheel mouse), clicked on 'wheel button', and in the dropdown menu selected keystroke. Under 'configure keystroke', there's a "type a key..." box, and to the right, there's a "choose any modifier" selection.
On this web page, http://www.accessfirefox.org/Firefox_Keyboard_and_Mouse_Shortcuts.html, the instruction for 'open link in new tab' is Cmd+Return Cmd+Click
On this page, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mouse-shortcuts-perform-common-tasks, the instruction for 'open link in new tab' is command+Left-click link Middle-click link
I cannot figure out how to type these in correctly to make the function work.
    Help please?
    Thank you all.

I do not know what the standard setting is. In my Mac system preferences, when I access the Logitech Control Center, I click on "wheel button" (button 3), and get a drop down menu with the following choices:
    Nothing<br />
    Click<br />
    Advanced Click<br />
    Cruise<br />
    Horizontal Scroll<br />
    Keystroke<br />
    Modifiers<br />
    Open Application<br />
    Open Document<br />
    Open Folder<br />
    Open Web Page<br />
    Back<br />
    Forward<br />
    Cover Flow<br />
    Display Control<br />
    Eject CD<br />
    End Session<br />
    Expose' Dashboard & Spaces<br />
    One-Touch Search<br />
    Quick Look<br />
    Screen Capture<br />
    Sound Control<br />
    Switch Application<br />
    Zoom
I'm lost here. The mouse used to do it, then I needed to unplug it, and when I set it up again, the wheel button is inert when used on a link.

Have you tried using the volume control on the remote that's supplied with the N95?
If your volume key no longer works you should take it to a nokia care point for repair.
