UTorrent works under Wine

Hey all, just wanted to let people know that uTorrent is working under Wine.
This may already be common knowledge, but I tried it earlier and I couldn't get any transfers going. Make sure you have port-forwarding set correctly if necessary. I just successfully finished downloading a torrent, so now I can officially abandon Azureus which has gotten too bloated imho. Anyone looking for a good bittorrent client in Linux can give uTorrent a shot.
By the way, one of the nice things you can do is automatically stop seeding once you're upload ratio is 1, something I quite like.
I'm adding this little script for anyone that's interested. It lets you pass
torrents to uTorrent from Firefox.
#!/bin/bash
read torrent << HERE
$(echo "$1" | sed 's///\\/g')
HERE
wine /Path/to/uTorrent.exe "$torrent"
If you're wondering about the part before the call to wine, it's necessary because uTorrent (being a windows program) expects back slashes in the path to the .torrent file instead of forward slashes. That bit of code replaces "/" with "" in the path to the torrent passed to the script by Firefox.
To use the script:
1. copy the code to a text editor and modify it with the path to your copy of uTorrent.
2. save it as "utorrent.sh," and make it executable: chmod +x utorrent.sh.
3. In Firefox, the next time you click a torrent link, select "Open with" in the "What should Firefox do with this file?" box that pops up. Click on the drop down list and choose "Other" and find utorrent.sh. If you want you can also select "Do this automatically for files like this from now on."
4. After you hit OK uTorrent will open (if it's not already) and will be ready to download the torrent.

Tech-Man wrote:Azureus is still better even though it's bloatware, as the UPnP works fine, whereas the UPnP in uTorrent doesnt work under wine.
I use fixed ports.
Tech-Man wrote:
and before anyone says use fixed ports, thats just one way to get traffic shaped by your ISP hence I use UPnP.
TM
uTorrent supports protocol encryption, so they can't see that the packets are torrent stuff.

  • Lenovo Fingerprint Software stopped working under Win 8.1

Just upgraded to Win 8.1 (64-bit) and to the latest drivers for W700 (2753-WBB).
Major trouble with the Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software.
The Lenovo Fingerprint Software version 3.3.2.50 for Win 7 (64-bit) was fine under Win 8.0
but it doesn't work any more under Win 8.1
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?
The Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software isn't compatible with W700 and W700ds.
    Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software Version 5.9.9.7282 for Windows 8 (64-bit) or 7 (64-bit)
    supports only the ThinkPad W510, W520, W701, W530 systems

  • Any 5.1 Soundcard with Front Panel working under Win 7 64?

Since i'm finally fed up with my X-Fi Platinum not working in Win7 64 i would like to buy something else.
Sadly Creative seems to be the only firm producing soundcards that can have a simultanious stereo output via the front panel while having he 5.1 setup connected at the back.
So as much as i would like to stick it to Creative. But do they have anything with a frontpanel like the Titanium but working under Win7 64?

    Hi,
What driver version are you using now? The one that's on the install CD that's included with the soundcard or the latest driver that's available via Creative Labs download service? Provide more info, otherwise no-one can help you. Anyway, the X-fi Platinum (including the Platinum drive bay) should work in Windows 7 x86 and x64.
Try downloading and installing Daniel_K unofficial driver packs for the X-fi and see which one works the best for you.
Daniel_K unofficial driver pack SB X-Fi Series Support Pack 2.5 (10/25/2011)
Daniel_K unofficial driver pack SB X-Fi Series AuzenUAA Pack 1.8 (10/25/2011)
Daniel_K unofficial driver pack SB X-Fi Series AuzenWDM Pack 1.8 (10/25/2011)
Uninstall the old X-fi drivers first and then use "Driver Sweeper" in Windows Safe mode to wipe X-fi drivers that are still left in the Windows OS. Make sure you create a restore point in Windows 7 first, so you can roll-back if something goes wrong.
    Good luck!

  • Fingerprint Reader does not work under Win 7

I have a T500 which I have just upgraded from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional.
Everything apart from the Fingerprint Reader and the Wireless Broadband seems to work.
The Fingerprint Reader is the Authentec AES2810, with driver version 2.0.0.18 dated 24/11/2009.
If I run the Lenovo Fingerprint software version 3.3.0.58 I get the error that the software cannot
    communicate with the sensor.
The Wireless Broadband card is the Ericsson F3507g. The follwing drivers are installed:
    Network adapters:
        - F3507g Mobile Broadband Driver, version: 1.0.0.52 dated 29/07/2009
    Ports (COM & LPT):
        - Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard GPS Port (COM6), version: 1.0.0.28 dated 29/09/2008
        - Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Device Management (COM4), version: 4.54.7103.1 dated 26/06/2009
    Smart card readers:
        - F3507g Mobile Broadband USIM Port, version 6.0.0.7 dated 12/05/2009
Even if there is the driver information indicated above the USIM device says:
"No drivers installed for this device."
    Universal Serial Bus controllers:
         - F3507g Mobile Broadband Device, version: 4.54.7103.1 dated 26/06/2009
If I use the ThinkVantage Access Connections software I get the following error message:
"The current wireless WAN connection is being managed by another client utility.
Close the client utility and try again." But to my knowledge no other Wireless Broadband client is running.
If I try Mobile Broadband Connect via the Vodaphone UK interface I get the following error message:
"No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found."
And finally if I try ThinkVantage GPS I get the folowing message:
"The GPS NMEA CPM port is not available. You need to check the following things.
     - Another GPS application is using the COM port.
     - COM port is disabled. You can enable the COM port in Device Manager."
Under Windows Vista both the Fingerprint Reader and the Wireless Broadband device worked without
any problems. Do anybody have any ideas on how I can resolve these two problems.
    Best regards,
    Frode
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, it is the driver that seems to be the problem. Here is how I proceeded. Before I started to removed the Lenovo software and the driver I first made sure the the automatic driver installation was turned off. The easiest way to do this is to type "change device installation settings" in the Start Menu search box. A window then pops up with the question: "Do you want Windows to download driver software and realistic icons for your devices?". By default this is usually set at "Yes, do this automatically". Instead select the option "No, let me choose what to do", which will bring up another menu where one select the last option: "Never install driver software from Windows Update."
After you have installed the new driver do not forget to put it back to the recommended automatic mode.
I first went to Control Panel - Uninstall Programs and uninstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint Software. I then went to the Device Manager and uninstalled the AuthenTec driver version 2.0.0.18 and checked the box delete this driver software. I then rebooted the PC and during pre-boot went into the BIOS, selected Security and Fingerprint Reader and made a reset on the reader. After reboot I reinstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint Software 3.3.0.58 (7wf160ww). This time the installation went through without any error messages but when I started the software I discovered that it still did not work. When trying to run the tutorial or to enroll fingerprints I got the old error message: "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is ready."
I then checked the driver and I found that I now had the older AuthenTec driver version 8.1.2.56 dated 07/07/2009 and everything looked OK from the driver point of view. I then suddenly remembered that I had forgot to uninstall the AuthenTec TrueSuite software. I immediately uninstalled the TrueSuite software and also yet again the Lenovo Fingerprint Software, but left the newly installed driver in place. After a reboot I again reinstalled the Lenovo Fingerprint software and this time it worked. I can now run the tutorial and enroll fingerprints and the fingerprints work 100% for the Windows login. I have not yet tried to install Lenovo Client Security. I will do that later. However, I have discovered that the AuthenTec TrueSuite software has not been reinstalled after doing the last Lenovo Fingerprint software reinstallation. I am not sure if this is a good or a bad sign. Perhaps Bananaman or Cleo_Lenovo can give me some feedback on this issue.
I thank you all for helping me out with this problem. I find the Lenovo Forums of great interest and usefulness.
    Cheers,
    Frode

  • Satellite A300D-11v - WLan card doesn't work under Win XP

Ive problem. Im looking everywhere and i dont know whats happened.
I have installed XP and Ive problem with WLAN. Before Ive used Vista and was ok :)
I took driver for RTL8187b from
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=1&PFid=1&Level=6& Conn=5&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true#R TL8187B
and tried from official Toshiba website.
In device manager everything is ok, but I cant connect.
    This doesnt work:
"The WLan card is from Atheros and not from Realtek! The LAN card is Realtek but not WLan card!
The Atheros driver can be found here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Can somebody write me step after step how this fix.
Please help me and sorry for my English :)

    >Also can try reinstalling the drivers than appear in this web site, here appear the Atheros Drivers than your notebook need.
Your notebook doesnt support Atheros card but Realtek WLan card.
    >In device manager everything is ok, but I cant connect.
As you said the WLan card was recognized properly but you cannot connect.
    Why?
Im not sure why but you should firstly check if your WLan router uses the same WLan standard (802.11 A B or G) like the WLan card.
    Check the settings!
Then check if the right WLan encryption has been chosen, check if the Mac address was not enabled, check if firewall doesnt affect the WLan connectivity.

  • Fixed sound issues under wine, but would like to know how

I managed to get sound working under wine. I have no idea how, but I did. Ill explain and see if anyone can make sense of it.
So I initially set up kmix to where my primary device was my soundblaster card. I would continuously get errors like "creative blah did not work, switching to 'HD audio generic'.
I would not get system notification sounds but things like youtube and movies would. I had no luck with wine. I then started experimenting with the preferred devices and set the generic one to primary. The sound would work, but my problem was reversed. I would get notification sounds but no youtube or media audio. I then tried moving "default" up to preferred, only to get the same result. Neither gave me any sound in games under wine --not to mention the horrible system hangups when using "HD audio generic" and "default"
So I decided I prefer media audio over notification audio and went back to my original configuration. The result was that I still got system notifications but no media audio. At this point, I became very confused and started experimenting with changing the sound profiles. Any sort of chage at all would create a "dummy device" as playback out of my creative card. About 15 reboots later and luck? maybe, I got it to at least give me notification audio. I was stumped. I also noticed that the hangups were returning.
After exhausting all the options, I was like "oh well better move the HD audio Generic back up" and see what happens. Reboot. Somehow, I got media audio AND wine sound worked as well as the system hangups stopping.
I have no idea. Anyone have a clue?
Im glad its working, but im not going actually going to learn anything unless i figure out what happened.
    Thanks in advance.

Update: Ive found at least a modicum of consistency here. If I try to change anything in the preferences at all once I get wine audio working, it will stop working.
Thus far, here are my options..I can have
System Notification audio working and nothing else
System notification audio and media audio working, but no wine
Media Audio and Wine Audio working, but no system notification audio
    But not all three
If I change one preference, wine audio on its own will stop working, or wine audio AND media audio will quit working.
If I change it back to the settings which allow wine audio and media audio to work, it usually will not. It will however work, consistently after enough reboots...2-10.
    Any ideas?

  • Picasa2 under wine/linux

    how cool is this.....
    installation steps
    1)  pacman -S wine
    2) wine picasa-setup.exe
    wow.. that's it?!?!
video doesn't seem to play yet, but i've only had it installed for about 3 minutes, so i can't quite say anything bad yet.  in general, it looks/feels quite the same.

i believe gthumb doesn't do movies.  i had my eye on f-spot for a while, but thought that was also an image only viewer.
i'ld love to hear other options.  feel free to list any you know that can view images and movies together and i'll look through them.  i thought i had already looked, but i did miss digikam.  must have had my gnome blinders on.
digikam looked neat, on first glance i didn't see an option for movies, i need to go deeper apparently.   thanks scarecrow, that may end up being a better solution if it can do video too.
    why picasa...
picasa2 has always been what my wife uses to view photo albums and such. it's rather addictive actually, it shows images, movies and everything as one big album.  but it also has some other neat tools letting upload to your local malmart for printing and such for 1 hour printing, timelines, slideshows, screensavers, photo-dvds... blah, blah, about everything you could think to do with an album (which i'm guessing most don't work under wine).
there might be other tools worth looking at under linux, but i'm migrating my wife's machine (slowly) to linux.  getting her email to gmail, her browser to firefox. and the last hold out is the ability to view our album nicely.   she likes picasa, and if change can be avoided that's a plus for now.
my excitement was mostly due to the fact that i hadn't played with wine for a while.  the last time i did, and tried to get diablo ii lod running, it was quite a bit more leg work.  i was amazed at how easy it is now to get something running under wine.  might be due to a nicely packaged wine.  if that's the case, i owe someone a sixpack.

  • FFMPEG screencast is not working for WoW under Wine (AMD Catalyst)

Hi all. I'm trying to record game video using ffmpeg, but each time when I actually switch my focus to the game window, the picture freezes. Here is the example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4kfKpgcTAE This is World of Warcraft running under wine. I use AMD Catalyst beta-driver from the unofficial repository (mentioned here) on x64 system (lib32-catalyst-utils also installed).
    I tried this:
    ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -acodec flac -vcodec ffvhuff test.mkv (from wiki)
and some variations I found over the Internet:
    ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 30 -i :0.0 -f alsa -i hw:0,0 -acodec flac -vcodec ffvhuff test.mkv
    None of them worked.
I guess it's due to driver, because when I tried recordMyDesktop tool a few days ago with xf86-video-ati driver it recorded wideo. But when I switched to proprietary drider, both ffmpeg and recordMyDesktop are not working. I'm not going to change video driver because it's performance in video-games, so I'm wondering if there is any solution to my problem (except windowed-mode!).
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I had similar problems when trying to record OpenGL games with FFMpeg CLI. I use the catalyst-test drivers for my AMD HD 6870.
You could try downloading SimpleScreenRecorder via yaourt; get both, including the lib32-simplescreenrecorder.
There will be some conflicts, but choosing to replace some files hasn't caused any problems.
Make sure you have both  lib32-libpulse and lib32-alsa-plugins installed (pacman).
Once everything is in set, open SSR (SimpleScreenRecorder); set audio input to:
    - Record Microphone
    - Backend: PulseAudio
    - Source: Monitor of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo
    I chose to output as MKV ; H.264 ; MP3 @128
Select Start Recording and fire up WoW. I was able to playback the game-play video (full screen 1920x1080) with audio.
You may need different settings from what I have, notably the audio, but it should record in full screen mode.
    Good luck !

  • Error on installing iTunes under Win 8

Error on installing iTunes under Win 8
I have recently upgraded to Win 8.  When installing iTunes the following error shows:
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32",version"8.0.50727.4053.publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b 9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64". Please refer to Help and Support for more information HRESULT:0x80073715.
I am running the ITunes x64 install.  I have installed the V++ redistributable with no change in result.
I have subsequently downloaded and manually installed via the Apple Software update program iTunes.  However this does not allow my iPad to be connected as it is not the x64 version.

After spending an entire day on this issue, I figured out something that worked.  After installing Windows 8 (64-bit) then Visual Studio 2012 (or 2013) then the latest 64-bit iTunes app, I got the 0x80073715 error.
What finally worked for me was:
    1) Get all the Windows updates and hotfixes - especially the ones for Visual Studio.
    2) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14431 and download the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update"
    3) Only install vcredist_x64.exe.
After running these steps, I was able to completely install iTunes on my Windows 8 64-bit instance.
    Hope this helps.

  • No sound on Audigy 2 ZS under Win XP, under Linux

    Hi,
I have an Audigy 2 ZS installed on my AMD 64 3500+, Board Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (BIOS 0). I first installed Win XP, Sound drivers and everything worked fine, then installed SUSE Linux 9.3 (x64-Version), and everything was fine too. After a while, under Win XP the sound card stopped working. I don't remember what I changed in my config, but I couldn't get it working again under XP. Under Linux everything is still ok.
I even reinstalled XP, and still there's no sound. Strange thing is, that the drivers install perfectly and everything on the system seems to be ok, but there's no sound neither on digital-out nor analog.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    I tried both, disabling, enabling.
Currently there's a digital sound system with external decoder connected to it (Creative Soundworks DTT3500 Digital), as well a 5. analog Headphone, so all jacks execept line in are connected. Headphones and sound system is ok, I tested that on other PCs.

  • PSE 7.0 Invalid Serial Number under Win 8.1

Moved from a Dell PC running Win XP SP3 to an HP with an 3.80 GHz AMD 6200 6 core processor, 10 Gb RAM running Win 8.1. Had installed PSE 7.0 four or five years ago on the Dell - it meets my limited needs and I don't really want to upgrade. I re-installed PSE 7.0 (from the Adobe download site) and registered the product on Adobe.com. However, the program refuses to accept the serial number, claiming it is "not valid." Tried Adobe chat and Manoj Kumar confirmed the serial number was valid. However, he then stated that PSE 7.0 is not supported on Win 8.1 and he is consequently unable to assist further. Since the program works fine other than for not accepting a valid serial number, I don't see that Win 8.1 is an issue. Any thoughts? Is it helpful to copy any applicable files from the old computer?

Having searched for similar issues with other PSE users, it is apparent Adobe does not intend to respond - none of the numerous questions on serial numbers have received a response. I found the answer to my question, but the solution will not help anyone who can't locate their original installation disks.
There is an apparent difference in the serial numbers that are issued on-line during product downloads and those that are printed on the box / disk sleeve. I managed to dig up the six year old install disk and initiated setup. The first pop up box requests a serial number and I entered my original number. The installation proceed without incident, other than requesting a file update which I obtained from Adobe downloads. The serial number which was rejected when downloading a copy of PSE 7.0 from Adobe works just fine in the identical disk based install.
And, a note in passing to "Manjo Kumar:" PSE 7.0 runs just fine under Win 8.1. Please stop using the excuse that Win 8.1 is not supported and give users the real answer: "If you download a copy, you need a downloaded serial number. If you originally installed from disk, you need to re-install from disk. A disk based serial number won't work on a download copy."
Short sighted attempt by Adobe to force users to purchase another copy of previously installed software.

  • WLAN not working under Windows XP on Satellite U400

After installing Windows XP Recovery on my U400 the WLAN is not found. Under Win Vista it was working properly.
There is no module listed under the device manager - searching after new hardware gave no results. It seems that the WLAN Interface is not recognized by Win XP.
The Communication switch at the front was "ON" - bluetooth is working correct.

    Hello,
the problem with my notebook is the following:
I bought the notebook with 3 GB Ram. With Windows Vista everything worked fine.
With XP there is a problem with adress ressources. Everything above 2 GB Memory allocates new adress ressources. So in the device manager there is an device "PCI Express port 6" or something like that wich is shown with a warning. This device conflicts with the wireless adapter - so no adapter can be found. If i remove 1 GB (whatever combination) the adress conflict is resolved and the wireless adapter is working.
Thanks to my local notebook dealer (notebook shop in Darmstadt/Germany) for discovering the problem.
I now switched back to vista and everything works with 3 GB. (Memory was more important to me than having XPinstead of Vista).
I think the problem can be solved with a new bios update!
    Regards - Felix

  • Can i upgrade premier pro CS3 to work on win 8.1

Can I upgrade premier pro cs 3 to work on win 8,1....
    Terry

There are no updates for CS3 to work with Windows 8.1.  Having said that, I'd expect it to just work anyway.  Unlike Mac OS, the Windows OS is extremely compatible with older software.  It's a very rare occurrence when an older program just won't run.
This may actually be one of the biggest flaws with Windows.  It's so ubiquitous that complete overhauls under the hood would break too many programs, and so we never get a truly revolutionary upgrade (like the complete removal of the registry, one of the worst ideas ever implemented in an OS).
