Variable dependency in Analyzer

Hi All,
My requirement is like i have many variables which are dependent on one another.
Like country, subcountry.
country - authorized variable
subcountry - list of subcountries corresponding to the country selected by user.
Here when the user selects one country, and press show values for subcountry, it should show valid subcountries for that country, out of which user choose one subcountry.
So i have made subcountry as user exit variable and wrote logic inside i_step = 2. But i dont think this functionality is not possible in query designer. I have many variables like this. Can anybody help me how to achieve this functionality in analyzer.

Indeed you can have performance impact, especially if you are supporting Business Explorer Analyzer Tools in Windows Microsoft Office Excel 2007. As far as my experience can tell me, Windows Microsoft Office Excel 2003 is a much better support for Business Explorer and offers far more stability than the later version.
That´s something you have to try and measure...
Although the 6 dropdown box will not increase the filter scope, it will just decrease, so less data, as you are doing your selection in dropdown boxes, is to be displayed in some of those queries (data providers), or is to be target of a planning function/sequence.
This way, the performance should only be affected by what (I mean how many and what dimension they can have) queries or data providers are to be displayed (in same workbook) you are using for planning and executing these functions. Remember that every refresh of a query will take some time of the processor...
What you can do is instead of having that many queries to take variable dependency into account, I don´t know if it is the case; is by using the master data attributes.
Let me give one example I'm familiar with:
Country / Company Code / Cost Center
Cost Center has in master data the attributes company code and country
These 3 characteristicas can be all in one data provider that will affect himself.
You can use 3 dropdown boxes that are called by the same data provider that have this relationship.
You can use this line of thinking in your Country / Sub-country / ....

Hi,
How do you populate a bind variable depending on the previous page (where the user is “branching from”)?
Example.
Page 10 has a report:
Select Value1_Desc
From Table
Where Value1_ID = :P10_VALUE1_ID
Page 5 can branch to page 10 and pass along the Value1_Desc from P5_VALUE1_ID into :P10_VALUE1_ID.
Page 8 can also branch to page 10 with an item value based on the same field, passing Value1_ID from P8_VALUE1_ID into :P10_VALUE1_ID.
Is there a way to make the report in page 10 accept the proper bind variable value depending on the previous page?

Page 5 can branch to page 10 and pass along the Value1_Desc from P5_VALUE1_ID into :P10_VALUE1_ID.Page 5 can branch to page 10 and pass along the VALUE1_ID from P5_VALUE1_ID into :P10_VALUE1_ID.
The normal method is to have the branch pass the value in the URL, e.g., the branch from page 5 would specify:
f?p=&APP_ID.:10:&SESSION.::NO::P10_VALUE1_ID:&P5_VALUE1_ID.

Hi,
Once you have opened the query in the bex query designer,
follow these steps :
1. Go to the desired infoobject for which you want to create a variable.
2. For the particular infoobject you would find a sub folder which is characteristic value variables.
3. Right click and say New Variable
4. Double click on that variable and give a technical name to the variable according to the requirement.
5. Select the type of variable i.e. Default, Replacement path, Customer Exit or authorization.
Depending on the type of variable selected you can fill in the other tabs.
-> Default value would be used for user input and you can use the details tab.
-> Replacement path is used when you want to refer some other variable or query and you can use
the replacement path tab.
-> Customer exit is used when you have created a customer exit and you want to use it to fulfill your requirement
-> Authorization variable is used to provide security to users at the query level.

Variable Screen in Analyzer 7.0

Dear All,
I am facing a peculiar problem with the variable screen.
The problem is even though I define the variables to be of type Interval or Selection Options, when I execute the query It shows the variable but allows on single entry.
But I do not have any issues in RSRT.
This is the following Analyzer I am using.
BI AddOn 7.X (based on 7.10)
Support Package 7
Revision 571.
Please let me know how to solve this issue.

Drop-Down-Box (F4 Input Help) for formula variable in BEx Analyzer (BI 7.0)

Hi Gurus,
is it possible to get a drop down box for a ready for input formula variable in the BEx Analyzer (not BEx Web!)?
We want to let the users choose scaling factors 1, 1000 or 1000000 (implemented via this formula variable). In the settings of the formula variable you can only choose a default value but there seems to be no option to provide all three factors in a drop down box like the ones for characteristic value variables.
We could prevent other entries in the variable pop up via customer exit (i_step 3) but the business is wishing an F4 input help like the ones for characteristic values.

Its not possible to get drop down box for a ready for input formula variable. Because it is possible only for characterstic value variables but not formula variable.u donnot get any drop down box like ready for input for formula variable.

Hi,
I wanted to create new variable for a query. But I could not find the Maintain Variable in Sap menu..I found only the following.SAP menu->Business Explorer->Analyzer. Is there any procedure to include 'maintain variable' in SAP menu->Business Explorer->.

We normally create variable for giving the user the flexibility to run reports for specific conditions which can change..
For eg: Lets take Fiscal year..
To create a variable on this drag and drop the fiscal year in the filter area of the query.
Then Right click on Fiscal Year --> Restrict --> Variable tab --> New Variable.

Customer Exit - Fill variable depending on query view name

We're running BW 7.0
We have a query which is used for broadcasting and as well for user input. That's why we have a variable which is default filled by a customer exit. This variable is the week and is default filled: fist week of year up to actual week.
But now we have for the same query different selection requirenments.
The same query should be send by email with
- first week of year up to actual week
- previous week
Because of dynamic variables the calweek needs to be filled by customer exit and worked until now fine - until a second requirenment was coming (separat broadcast only with previous week).
I don't like the idea to copy the query because of maintenance work.
I'd like to have several views - and depending on the view name etc. I would fill the customer variable. But I don't get the query view name into customer exit - right?
Do you have any other ideas?
How do you handle such requirenments?

I understand your requirement but I don't understand the solution you are using. I think it's a bit tricky.
What I would do is:
Create three variables:
- VAR1: Single value, mandatory, ready for input, customer exit. Used to store "User input date"
- VAR2: Select option, customer exit, not ready for input. Used to store Valid From restriction.
- VAR3: Select option, customer exit, not ready for input. Used to store Valid to restriction.
Then, use this code:
WHEN 'VAR2'.
IF I_STEP = 2.
READ TABLE I_T_VAR_RANGE INTO LOC_VAR_RANGE
with key VNAM = 'VAR1'.
CLEAR L_S_RANGE.
L_S_RANGE-LOW = LOC_VAR_RANGE-LOW.
L_S_RANGE-SIGN = 'I'.
L_S_RANGE-OPT = 'LE'.
APPEND L_S_RANGE TO E_T_RANGE.
ENDIF.
WHEN 'VAR3'.
IF I_STEP = 2.

with key VNAM = 'VAR1'.

I think this should work, and you'll have three independent variables used for one purpose each.

OBIEE - How to make one presentation variable dependent on the other

I have the following requirement. In a prompt say there are two columns acting as filters:
Columnfilter1 Columnfilter2
Now the columnfilter2 is constrained based on columnfilter1.
The user wants that, upon logging only the columnfilter1 should have default value set and not columnfilter2. And the report should run in the following way:
If only columnfilter1 is entered at the prompt and not columnfilter2. Therefore it should give values for all the columnfilter2 values wrt columnfilter1.
and
if both the prompts are entered, then the report should filter on both the columnfilters.
I dont know how to set the above to conditions in the report.Please let me know how should i proceed.

Thanks for the reply.. I think i did not pose question properly.. In my report I have the following requirement:
Column1 Prompt Column2 Prompt
Where column2 prompt depends on the column1 prompt such that there is a hierarchy, column1 (parent) --> column2 (child)
Now, if in my report i need to display measures by comparing column1 and column2 prompts with parallel set of column1 and column2 values of another hierarchy.
now, if column1 prompt is chosen and no column2 prompts are chosen then, then alll values of column2 are considered. Now I want to put a condition of comparison when all values are considered and a different condition of comparison when a specific value for column2 prompt is entered. How do i do that?? I thought of using default value in the condition statement. But its not working. Maybe I am implementing it wrong.
Could you let me know how to achieve the above?

Description input variable dependent by queries

Hi gurus,
I have a input variable in more queries bex (bi 7.0).
I do to change description for only one query without to create an other custom variable and replace it where I need.
I test in cmod with the support the second customer exit variable but when I launch the query I don't intercept the description variable (insert in table RSZELTTXT) in step 1.
Any suggest..

In the restriction of AS1 you restrict on current quarter (SAP Variable -> Current quarter 0CQUART if not found see Business content -> Query element -> variables)
Then you do a right mouse click an set the variable offset on -3
The same for AS2 with -2; AS3 with -1
on AS4 you don't do an offset.
Next to the description of the restricted key figure there is a button for Text variables (Current quarter (T) 0CQUARTT ).

Reception 'issue' variable depending on location...

I have just conducted a bit of a test whilst out to post some mail.
At home (where my signal is notoriously poor, and where my nokia was awful) my signal is ok on the iphone4, but definitely drops if i hold the phone in such a way as to cover the bottom left hand corner. So you could in fact argue that the iphone4 is doing an ok job of getting a signal. But you would also say that holding the phone effects the reception.
Whilst out to the post box I stopped where i had 5 bars 3G reception (in its car cradle), i stopped and held the phone in the death grip, no change, 3 mins later, no change. I removed the bumper (sorry, forgot to mention i have a bumper), so, i removed the bumper, and held again, ensuring i was doing my best to cause the issue, no change! No issue!!
So, i have to conclude from this unscientific test, that the phone is not effected to any great extent where the signal is good in the first place. Where the signal is poor (my house), the iphone seems to do a good job of getting one, but can then be effected by holding it!
Can anyone else try to repeat this type of test?
What do people think?

Hi everyone, I just got my iphone 4G a few days ago and I must say- this is the best phone Ive ever owned in my lifetime- although I havent tried any of the other new phones- I just wanted to share my experiance with this- First off I bought a case the day I got my new iphone 4G- I just think thats the logical thing to do after all- the first thing that ran through my mind was to protect the glass screens- Maybe some people don't want to invest money in buying a case but come on, $30 bucks is not alot of money and infact one of the employees at AT&T actually gave me one for free since i brought a friend with me who also upgraded to the new iphone-
I havent had any problems with reception except in certain areas that AT&T doesnt have good coverage but thats not the iphones fault- I don't understand why people have to make such a big deal with the new antenna- infact I tried to press down in the bottom corner to see if its true but nothing happened- maybe people purposely trying to make the antenna have a problem are trying to find a reason to make a deal out of it-
No product is going to be 100% perfect and seriously if you weigh out all of the cool features and everthing that the iphone 4G does- is the antenna issue really that unbareable-
Anyways putting a case over the phone does cover the metal bands and protects the back glass- so why wouldnt anyone wanna buy a case for their new iphone?
Thats like saying when you buy a pair of contacts, wouldnt the logical thing to do is to buy a case and a bottle of solution- and even though some people think its uneccessary some people buy the cleaner to clean their contacts?
Anyways- im only here to say that Im happy with my phone and I havent seen any problems what so ever- all this negative feedback- i decided to post something positive-
Remember back in the days when cellphones cost over $1,000- didnt have video recording especially HD recording didnt exist- no camera, no app store, horrible reception and battery life- expensive phone plan, no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, no color, no touchscreen, no internet, extremely slow- very limited on storage space, extremely big and ugly in design...
And some of you guys out there complaining that you paid $199 or $299 for a phone with all these features and more listed above and making a big deal over something thats really not an unbearable problem that can be avoided =)
its so funny how quick the world forgets- personally i thank apple for stirring up the business world forcing all the companies to finally wake up and give us what weve been demanding- if apple never released the iphone in 2007, how long would we have to wait for someone else to do it?

BEx Analyzer Not showing report result in canceling "Change variable Icon"

Hi Experts,
Do we have any settings in BEx Analyzer for retrive the Result set even after I click 'Change variable Icon' in Toolbar and cancel the variable pop-up window??
Eg: My query Result is displayed in Analyzer selecting some vaues in Selection screen.And when I click the Change Variable Icon from 'Analyzer Toolbar' its showing me 'Select values for variable' window.If I select the cancel button in it, then Query result becom blank showing the message "There are variables; change variable values". Do Analyzer having an option or settings to keep the result even if i cancel the variable selection from "change variable icon".

If SAP provides such a function, I have not found it. The way I understand it., the change variable value initiates the OLAP back end. This clears the Presentation Manager front end, and clears the 'results' that are displayed on your workbook. If you cancel the OLAP run, the front end clear still executes.
HOWEVER... if you turn OFF Automatic Refresh before clicking on Change Variable Values and then clicking on Cancel, the presentation manager will not write any changes to your workbook. So that is your best solution.

Changing a variable in variable screen

Hey everybody,
i have a question for variable screen in Bex Analyzer 3.5 in BI 7.0.
Is it possible to change a variable in variable screen depending the input of an other variable?
I know how to change it bevor popup and after popup.
But i want to change the date of a hierarchy-variable depending of the values entered of two other variables. so, as soon as the variable of date or month is changed, i would like to match the hierarchy-date of a variable.
Anybody an idea?

thanks for the link, but I quess, that doesn't help. We have allready a keydate-userexit-variable, that is filled after popup (i_step=2). I Know how to do ist also bevor popup (i_step=1).
What I need is to change a variable "during" popup. That means, the variable screen is open, and the user enters variable number 1. As soon as he did an input, I want to react on this "event" and change a other variable. (In our case, a hiararchydate, so that he can choose from the right hiararchy).
I read that the variable screen of Bex 3.5 in BI 7.0 has an other technoloy than in before. (Html-Based). I hoped that there is a new chance of working whitch the variables in Bex.
I little example.
the variables screen pops up with some default value:
year (2008)
month (12)
ConsolidationUnit ( )
(hierarchyVariable with keydate 31.12.2008 when you open F4-Screen)
now, the user changes the first variable into year 2009 an presses enter, but he don't execute the query yet, because he wants to choose a consolidationunit first.
In this moment, i whant to change the Keydate from Consolidationunit-variable

(HierarchyVariable with keydate 31.12.2009 when you open F4-Screen)
The consunit he wants to choose is not available in Hierarchy from 2008.
Thats our Problem.
I want to avoid, that the user has to type in an other variable for keydate of the hiearchy. because the keydate depends on the other entered time-variables.
Hope, that this is comprehendible. I try to realize somekind of an interaction between variables in the screen.

Can i assign a string to a variable in User Exit?

I would like ot write a User Exit that will assign a string to a variable depending on the value of the other variable.
I just wanted to know if such a code is valid:
When zimport

If so, my second problem is that in the variable exit definition with processing Customer type you need to identify a "Dimension" for the variable. Non of them really fit, because the value is a string so why convert it to another format?

say you have var1 and var2, var2 will be filled depend on value of var1, you can write something like following.
please be remind that var2 is not marked as ready for input and is set to mandatory variable entry.

Prompt List of Values in WebI - SAP BI Variable - SAP BI Query -BI Infoset

Hi,
We have a Multiprovider built on an Infoset. SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
Multiple-Single Values type Optional Variables are created for some of the Objects of this SAP BI Query.
Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration kit.
WebI is created on top of this Universe.
Prompts are created on some of the Universe Objects, for the WebI report.
We are facing a typical problem.
When a WebI prompt is created on one particular object, (which also has a Multiple Single Value type Optional Variable in SAP BI Query), its List of Values is showing up only first three values in WebI. The SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values, for the same object.
The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in the List of Values & this is the problem.
We tried to keep the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset, Multiprovider = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
Similar objects and similar variables for the same query / webi show all the List of Values.
Any guidance on aspects to be checked would be helpful.

If an SAP BI Infoset is used in data modelling, and a restricted key
figure is created in the SAP BI Query; the resultant WebI Object Prompt
for the Info-object, only shows up LOVs which have been used for the
restricted Key Figure. Both the things are not related except for the
fact that some of the values for the same object are used for the
restricted key figure.
Details :
We have a Multiprovider built on an SAP BI Infoset.
SAP BI Infoset is built using 2 DSOs.
There is a SAP BI Query on top of this Multiprovider.
There is a restricted key figure in the sap bi query. KeyFigure "Number
of Records" is restricted for 3 of the relevant Info-object "Meter
Reading Status" values.
Universe is created on top of this SAP BI Query, using SAP Integration
kit. WebI is created on top of this Universe.
Prompt is created on the Universe Object for Meter Reading Status, in
the WebI report.
List of Values is showing up only the three values in WebI (which were
used in the Restricted Key Figure calculation).
SAP BI Variable in BEX Analyzer for the same Info-object Meter Reading
Status shows up all the 8 values for the List of Values.
The Output WebI report has more values for the object than shown up in
the List of Values & this is the problem.
We have kept the settings in Info-object, DSO, Infoset,
Multiprovider, Query = Values in Master Data (for the List of Values).
When we delete the "Restricted Key Figure" from the SAP BI Query, the
refreshed Universe and Webi have a complete set of List of Values
applicable.
Steps for Reconstruction
1. Create Infoset
2. Create SAP BI Query on Infoset
3. Create Restricted Key Figure for Number of Records and few of the
values for a characteristic info-object "X".
4. Create BO Universe on SAP BI Query
5. Create Webi on BO Universe
6. Create a Prompt on the characteristic info-object "X".
7. Check List of Values for the characteristic info-object "X" in SAP
BI Query and WebI.
8. LOVs in WebI are equal to the values used for restriction in the
restricted key figure.
9. Delete the restricted key figure from SAP BI Query.
10. Refresh Universe
11. Webi prompt shows all the values for the prompt on "X".

Problem while incrementing a variable in Jasper Reports

I am using Jasper Reports for designing reports. These reports will be used by my Java application.
But there is problem while I am trying to increment a variable depending on some condition.
Requirement: I have to display information about all the residents in a hospital in a single report. Resident information will be fetched from the XML file. When a resident ID is found in the XML, then the variable(resno) shoud be incremented. I have set the initial value to 1.
Problem: Only for the first resident, resno is showing as 1. For all the remaining residents, its showing as 0 (zero).The variable 'resno' is not incrementing for each resident.
Even the ResidentID is not null. All the ResidentID's exists in the XML file.
