Variable description

In Query Designer, I have created the Variable for Characteristic 0Plant. I entered the Description following for this Variable:
Plant (1500 = Buying, 1800 = Warehouse, 1900 = Shipping)
This is so that the user can see clearly what Plant represent what. However, when I run this report, I only see the following
as description of this Variable:
Plant (1500 = Buying, 1800 = Warehouse, 19
Is seem like I hits the max characteristic. Can we adjust the lenght of it so that I can see the following in the seleciton screen??
Plant (1500 = Buying, 1800 = Warehouse, 1900 = Shipping)
Next question is, on the selection screen, when I click on the 0Plant Variable, I only see the Key:
1500
1800
1900
Can we turn on the Text also so that user can see what Plant means what?

Hi -
It's the same issue here...Variable description is truncated on selection screen...
The variable description in Table RSZELTDIR is showing correct description...
when i try to execute the query in Bex & WAD it truncates the description from Company Code (Multiple Single Value Mandatory) to Company Code (Multiple Single Value..
we are on SAPKW70105
Any idea??

  • Variable description not appearing in variable screen

    Hi Experts,
    we have created a variable which is ready for input. While executing the query, the variable description is not appearing in the variable screen, instead variable technical name is only appearing in the variable screen.
    The same variable is being used in two queries. In one query, it displays the technical name and in the other query it displays the description of that variable.
    your solution would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Franks

    yeah......it is strange.  As soon as the variable screen comes up, all the variables normally shown in description rather than a technical name, unless you select "Key & text"  OR only "key" OR only "Text".
    But, in this case this particular variable is showing in technical name, the description itself is disappearing from the variable screen.
    No changes have been made to variable. The same variable displays with descriptions in other query.  so difficult to analyze.

  • Showin a variable description  for an info-object depending on a user login

    Hi,
    Client requirement is to show a variable description  for an info-object depending on a user login.
    e.g. a Characteristic Name is Level1 with a description as 'Level1'. If a user in Canada logs in and see a BEx report he should be able to see the description for infoobject Level1 as 'Cost center'.  A user in US may wish to see the description as 'Expense center'  etc. etc.
    Is it possible to do so ? If yes please let me know ASAP.
    Do not get confused with language dependant texts.
    Regards,
    K.Manikandan.

    Hi,
    I don't think it is possible through standard functionality, but maybe you could try a workaround.
    Create a Characteristic (say COMP) with text, and compound it with Infoobject Level1. The values and description for COMP could be
    US Cost Center
    CN Expense Center
    You could make COMP an Authorisation relevant object and check the same with regard to user login, so that the people of sepecific country see only description relevant to their COMP.
    In the report Display COMP as Description and Level1 as Key.
    But do not that compounding may have an impact on the performance, also look into the implications of the same if you need to do it for a large number of reports/objects.
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers

  • WAD: change variable description in Info Field

    Hi guys,
    I have created a Web Template with the Web Application Designer (WAD). Using an Info Field item (Info Filed properties > Data Binding > Text Element Type > Variable Value ) I displayed the variable filter value used to launch the Web Template. The available values are: Default, Manual and Listed. I have to choose one of the listed variable changing the variable description. I tried to change it also changing the XHTML code, but launching the Web Template the system automatically recalls the original variable description.
    Can anyone let me know how I can do it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Giulia,
         We cant do this WAD , need to do it in query designer.( Cant edit a query in WAD)
         If u want to change the descriptions of the chars u created, u can do it in the infoobject level it self.

  • Hierarchy variable description not displaying correctly

    Hi all,
    I'm using 0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable in several queries either based on the characteristic 0ORGUNIT, or based on the navigational attribute 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT.
    When I execute the query with 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable the selection node description displays the Medium description, which is correct.
    Whe I execute the query with 0ORGUNIT hierarchy variable the selection node displays the Short description, which is incorrect, as I need it to display the Medium description.
    The settings for the object in both query properties are set to display Text Medium Length, and 0ORGUNIT infoobject Business Explorer tab dipslays text,  text type is medium Length and bex description is long text, but still when I try to select the node in the parameter selection before query execution the description differs in both cases, any idea why??
    Please advice, much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    M.

    Hi,
    I understand what you're saying, and unfortunately I can't attach any screenshots here but both queries use the Medium Description in the object properties and it's maintained in the text table /BI0/TORGUNIT as well (short and medium).
    However, the BEx Descpription is only in short and long text, there is nothing I can change or maintain about that.
    It looks like everything is as it should be, because for one query I can see the medium text properly, but not for the other, even though I'm using the exact same settings, apart from the fact that in one query I use 0ORGUNIT and in the other it's used as a navigational object 0EMPLOYEE_0ORGUNIT.
    It's a funny thing indeed....
    Thanks
    M.

  • Need to display variable descriptive text in a report

    Does anyone know of a way to display the descriptive text for user entry variables in Crystal Reports? I've tried a couple of methods in the past (a subreport going against master data and building an array of text valued from the data) but each has method has some significant drawbacks. How are customers dealing with this right now? I have been encouraging them to be satisfied with the technical names, but that doesn't go over very well.

    Look like no one had any thoughts. I'll just close this one down for now.

  • Network Shared Variable Description

    Hi,
    I've created alot of Network Shared Variables through Project Explorer...and i have also added a description for each one in the shared variable properties screen
    Could someone please tell me how i can get access to the description through LabVIEW?
    Many thanks
    Mike

    Hi attached is a sample of code in which i am viewing a value and also its description.
    Ideally id just like to have the channel name once and the description and value be taken off that, rather than if i ever change it , then have to change the input to the description and also the variable displaying the value. Hope that makes sense

  • Reading a global variable from tomcat with JNDI. Example not working

    Hi you can help me to make this example work?
    Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
    Context envCtx = (Context)initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
    Object o = envCtx.lookup("testvariable");
    <GlobalNamingResources>
    <Environment name="testvariable" type="java.lang.Boolean" value="false"/>
    Nice greetings Christian

    I found out that in addition to having the JNDI lookup code, you have to
    - have the environment variable declared in the app server configuration
    - have a resource-env-ref entry in your webapp module
    - have the application container bind your named variable with the global variable
    I am using tomcat 5.5, and have done the following. with success.
    the following example uses the default sample environment variable in the tomcat server.xml
    in tomcat server.xml:
    <GlobalNamingResources>
    <Environment
    name="simpleValue"
    type="java.lang.Integer"
    value="30"/>
    </GlobalNamingResources>
    in my application's web.xml:
    <resource-env-ref>
    <description>Test read resource environment variable</description>
    <resource-env-ref-name>simpleValue</resource-env-ref-name>
    <resource-env-ref-type>java.lang.Integer</resource-env-ref-type>
    </resource-env-ref>
    in my META-INF/context.xml (or otherwise, in tomcat's context deployment configuration)
    <ResourceLink name="simpleValue" global="simpleValue"
    type="java.lang.Integer"/>
    Note: in theory, the named resource by your web app could be different from the global environment variable, but here they are the same 'simpleValue'
    This is the really important step, that with out it, nothing works.,
    the context.xml is known to work with tomcat when it exists in META-INF/context.xml inside the .war file (i use war files to deploy, but you should be able to create META-INF/context in an unpacked webapp directory too, and tomcat will find it.,
    I can not say what it is like for other app servers, but this mapping step is the critical point that i discovered after A LOT of hair pulling.
    then, make use of it, i created a jndiTest.jsp:
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.Context" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.InitialContext" %>
    <%@ page import="javax.naming.NamingException" %>
    <%
    try {
    Context initCtx = new InitialContext();
    Context ctx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:/comp/env");
    Object o = ctx.lookup("simpleValue");
    %>
    <%=o%><br>
    <%
    catch (NamingException ex) {
    System.err.println(ex);
    %>
    since my server.xml defines the value for 'simpleValue' to be 30, this page displays 30

  • Query variable modification transport

    I modified a query variable description in RRMX and a change request (let's call it CR1) gets created.  But I wonder if I should go to RSA1 Transport Connection to add the variable to CR1?  and how?  I used to do this before quite a while ago and don't remember.  Anyone's answer is greatly appreciated!

    I go to RSA1 Transport Connection and locate the query variable and find that the CR number I mentioned above is listed under the column of Transport Request, that means I don't have to take any action, right?
    I also go to SE09, find the CR number, but find the following under it:

    For the jsp taglib technology.

    Thank u!

    Thank u very much?
    But i want to know, if I had set the <attribute> tag
    as the example i had given.Do you mean attribute, or variable in the example you gave?
    Here, I will give you a full example. This tag will set a new variable (given by an attribute name) a value provided by another attribute, and puts that variable into one of the four scopes (page, request, session, application)
    You would use this tag like this:
    <custom:setValue var="theVar" value="What I want" scope="page"/>
    Where var = the name of the variable that will be exported
    value = The value to assign to the variable
    scope = the scope to put the variable into.
    package tags;
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;

      private String varName, scope, value;
      public void setVar(String var) { varName = var; }
      public void setScope (String s) { scope = s; }
      public void setValue(String val) { value = val; }
      public void doTag() throws JspException, IOException
        PageContext context = (PageContext)getJspContext();
        if ("application".equals(scope)) context.setAttribute(varName, value, PageContext.APPLICATION_SCOPE);
        else if ("session".equals(scope)) context.setAttribute(varName, value, PageContext.SESSION_SCOPE);
        else if ("request".equals(scope)) context.setAttribute(varName, value, PageContext.REQUEST_SCOPE);
        else context.setAttribute(varName, value, PageContext.PAGE_SCOPE);
    }The tag in your tld would look like this:
      <tag>
        <description>Set the value of a scoped variable</description>
        <name>setValue</name>
        <tag-class>tags.SetValueTag</tag-class>

  • Formula Variable issue

    Hi,
    Can someone help me with the following issue as my client wants it quick.
    I have created a formula variable called "Enter number for formula" for number and used this formula variable  in a calculated key figure. When I run the query, it will ask me to enter a number in the formula variable and this number will be used in the calculated key figure to get the results for the calculated key figure in the report.
    Now the point here is that customer has to enter either 5 or 6 or 7 only in this formula variable and should not allow other numbers in the formula variable and more over we should have a selection option with only these 3 values and when customer pressses F4, he should get an option of selecting any one from these 3 values.
    Is this requirement feasible? If So can any one help me with an example.
    Advance Thanks for your help.
    Kishore

    Hi Aby,
    I have a quick question. My first priority is that, is selection option can be enabled for formula variable i,e when ever customer executes a query and presses F4 he should get 5 or 6 or 7 and has to select any one out of three.
    I can give the formula variable description "Enter either 5 or 6 or 7" but this can be worked out only if I have less values but if I have to select some numbers from 1 to 100 then definitely I need a selection option,
    and is the reason we are looking for selection option with the required values.
    Can you please help me with this.
    Thanks,
    Kishore

  • In put variable to have default from date as current date..its urgent

    query has input data as an interval it could be replaced with a single start end date parameters.only the start date needs a default value...
    plz its urgent..
    i will assign points...

    Hi,
    Steps to follow,
    1) In bex, Create a new variable of 0Calday characteristic.
    Set the following attributes:
    Type of Variable: Characteristic Value
    Variable name: ZCEMONT
    Variable Description: Caldate
    Processing by: Customer Exit (Drop down combo box)
    Characteristic: Calendar date
    Press Next
    Variable Represents: Range Value
    Variable Entry is: Mandatory
    Check Ready for Input
    And Press Next
    Press Finish.
    2) Transaction CMOD
    Create a new project, maintain the short text, and assign a development class.
    (It’s better to ask somebody senior in our project about this, because every project have one main project and development class)
    If you have project say Zproject. Choose option components. Click Change.
    Double-click on EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001.Then double-click on ZXRSRU01.
    Enter the coding .Save and activate the coding.
    INCLUDE ZXRSRU01 *
    DATA: L_S_RANGE TYPE RSR_S_RANGESID. 'In global area
    DATA: LOC_VAR_RANGE LIKE RRRANGEEXIT. 'In global area
    DATA: zdate like sy-datum.
    CASE I_VNAM.
    WHEN 'ZCEMONT'.
    IF i_step = 1.
    zdate = 'your default value'.
    l_s_range-low = zdate.
    l_s_range-sign = 'I'.
    l_s_range-opt = 'BT'.
    APPEND l_s_range TO e_t_range.
    ENDIF.
    ENDCASE.
    Activate the project. This is very important.
    3) TO test now, use that variable ZCEMONT in query some where by going to BEx designer.save the query.Don;t run it.
    4) First run it in RSRT(Tran code).
    Hope i m clear.
    Now your report
    1)Place your Priority infoobject in rows
    2)In column area in Bex, Right Click and New Structure.
    3) Right click the New Structure->New Selection"DOWNTIME"->Drag your KF ZDOWNTIME
    4) Now Create a New Formula and drag  DOWNTIME->
    ='DOWNTIME'<4
    5) same for other two.
