Verizon SPAM Filtering my Outgoing email - This is unbelievable!

I pay verizon to provide access to internet access and an email address. I do not want nor did I ask for any spam filtering to be performed. HOW DARE YOU!!!!! If you spam filter my incoming .. .where are MY controls ... NOT yours!
Where do I see a listing of those emails that were filtered? You are obviously filtering my outgoing? What give you the right to do so?
I'm a sending 100's or thousands of emails a day ... NO!!!!
I sent 2 emails all day and you choose to filter them while I'm growing more and more **bleep** at the person I sent it to for not responding.
This can't be legal ... it is censorship .... I have been a loyal Verizon user since FIOS became available. I have internet, home phones, cells and TV service totaling over $400/month.
I am not going to looking into switching to AT&T and Cablevision.
I don't care if my contract is up or not ... go ahead and sue me .... I'll see you in court.
HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!

If Verizon's outbound spam filter catches your outgoing message, you receive an immediate notification. You get an error message if you are using webmail or a bounceback if you are using a mail client. There is no mystery as to whether it was stopped or not.
You can find more information about how and why Verizon implements their outbound spam filtering at their Spam FAQ page, which is listed in the error you get if your message is actually blocked: http://www.verizon.net/spamfaq
If it is inbound spam filtering you are concerned with, you have the ability to turn it off on the My Account Tools page, or you can change it to save to the Spam Detector folder instead of deleting via the Mail settings section in your mailbox.
Also, this is a peer-to-peer forum. If you want to threaten/complain to Verizon, you need to do so directly. There are options on Verizon's Contact Us page.

  • Verizon marking my outgoing email as spam; thanks, thanks a lot

Is anyone else as sick as I am of Verizon's "know more than you" "big brotherish" attitude to us customers.
I'm trying to send email (not mass, just one email) to a client, and Verizon marks it as spam.
This is a critical email the customer is expecting.  Couple of links in the emai.
Fios is nice, but not THAT nice if I can't even send a freakin' email... I might as well go back to Earthlink or Cox!  In fairness, about 95% of my outgoing email goes through just fine, but 2-3 times per week, when I send an email to someone, I get the dreaded {word filter avoidance}response from Verizon which says...
and yes, i send the "offending" email off to the {word filter avoidance} genius people at [email protected], but can you contact these ivory tower {word filter avoidance}?  No.
No, the only thing we can do is hope and pray these jerko**s unblock us and let our email get through.
    Verizon, if you're listening...{word filter avoidance}

This is not a personal attack, but your answer “free email solutions” doesn’t fly.
I pay for email service from Verizon. The cost of Verizon e-mail is built in to the dsl service.
Yes, e-mail from Verizon is advertised as a “free” service. However…
You can only get that “free email” if you purchase service.
    And that’s not free.

    First, the good news:
I rarely get spam from the Verizon server (I have 6 accounts/sub-accounts thru Verizon, using outlook express, 1 or 2 spam a month).
    The bad news:
I have enhanced dsl and have been experiencing random spam blocks.
Yes, I took the time to read the spam faqs and dozens of the postings in this forum.
Yes, I have the latest setting for outlook express http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Internet/fiosinternet/email/setup+and+use/questionsone/...
    Yes, I know the e-mail limits, 100 names per e-mail, 500 e-mails per hour

Yes, I have repeatedly sent the same email to [email protected]
I understand the difficulty of filtering spam, but it seems there should be means test that says if I send 1 email to 1 person, that’s probably not spam. After all, if the spam filter is really just a program, then it is using a numerical assessment, and the parameter has been set to ignore this..
Thank you for your time to help, but telling paying customers we don’t really have that good  of service  as we advertise, isn’t a solution, it’s an excuse.
    Respectfully,
    Norm
As a fellow paying customer (note that this is a peer-to-peer forum), I'm not making excuses. I'm stating facts. There are free email offerings that are better than ISP provided email. Period.
If you want to use Verizon's email, that's your choice. If you want to switch to another ISP and use their sub-par email product, that is also your choice.
It just doesn't make sense to me to trade excellent internet for not-as-fantastic internet just to use a "better" email product when there are actual better email products available for free that are not ISP-dependent.

  • All Outgoing Emails Marked as SPAM

As of today, the primary PC we have used for years for our main .net account has all outgoing email marked as spam and blocked. Even single addressee, no content emails are bounced back as SPAM. I can still receive on the primary PC, and still send from other devices with the same account. I have deleted and re-added the account on the PC to make sure the server and port settings are current to no avail. Any thoughts on what might have happened?

As stated in the Spam FAQ page, you will not get any response when sending the message to [email protected] for review. You attach the message that you are unable to send, and they review it. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the filter will either be updated to allow the content that was previously blocked, or it will be determined to be a legitimate block and no changes will be made.
Some troubleshooting steps you can try:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.
If the Subject line of your message has a whole bunch of "Fwd: Fwd: Re: Fwd:" try removing some of them.
Remove any links/URLs from the email one at a time to isolate if one of them is causing the block.
Some people have suggested sending the message to [email protected] for investigation. This may work for you as well.

  • How can I get Verizon to block all outgoing messages on my email?

My email was apparently hacked, it is the main account that I have used for the past seven years and all of my bill notifications and important things come to this address.  I have changed the password repeatedly, run several scans on my main computer, laptop, kindle fire, and cell phone (every device I access the email on) using Norton and Norton Power Eraser on the computers.  Nothing showing up.
I chatted with support just now asking them to block all outgoing email and they said it isn't possible and I find that impossible to believe.  I am seeing all kinds of messages here saying that people are being blocked but I can't add an email address to that list?  I need to keep it active for inbound email for a month or so just to make sure that I haven't missed any bill notices or other important stuff.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Pretty hard to do without shutting down the account.
Assuming you have properlly changed your password, and checked your PC and other devices for viruses/trojatns/etc. Then the person using your email is probably NOT even using Verizon.  \
Unfortunately the basic SMTP protocol is totally different then most people think.  Who you say you are is not a protected value and you can say you are anyone, yes verizon's servers when initially accepting input do check, but that is about it.  And the displayed sender and addresses in the smtp protocol do not have to match any text in the mail. that you see.

  • Emails from my Blackberry are getting trapped by spam filtering

It's not a consistent thing, which makes this more aggravating, but I have my work email set up on my Storm (9530), and many times, when I reply to an email that involves my co-workers, my emails get trapped by our online spam filtering.  Both my work email, as well as the "bis" Blackberry information has been added to the "whitelist", but these emails still have occasion to be trapped.
Can someone please help me get to the bottom of what is being embedded in the source header information from these emails that might be causing this problem?
I've noticed this is true of other emails originating from BlackBerry phones, regardless of the carrier.
    Thank you.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I'm thinking that you need to work with your SPAM filtration vendor...all of the header information is fully visible to an administrator who traps one of the captured emails. They need to compare that trapped email to the rules they have in their SPAM filter. I pretty much doubt that anyone "out here" could possibly have the level of access required to do any meaningful diagnostics. Unless I misunderstand your request...

  • Silent Spam Filtering - No NDR to Sender / No Notification to Recipient / No Option to Release Blocked Emails / No Support Document to request for Whitelisting of Sender

Silent Spam Filtering used by iCloud is currently affecting us and our Customers. Our Customer, when sending us emails from their business domain (no presence on Global Spam Blacklists), is not able to reach us on our iCloud account and there is absolutely no sign of the email within the Inbox / Junk Folder and surprisingly no NDR to the Sender
Symantec MessageLabs used for Outbound Mail Frittering by our customer confirms the emails to be delivered to MAC Servers, but not being forwarded to us or other end users using *@icloud.com account
    Delivery Report Extract:
2014-10-15 03:56:39 PM SMTP Status: OK
    2014-10-15 03:56:44 PM Delivery attempt #1  (final)
    2014-10-15 03:56:44 PM Recipient server: 17.158.8.68 (mx1.mail.icloud.com)
2014-10-15 03:56:44 PM Response: 250 2.5.0 Ok, envelope id [email protected]
There should be a convenient way to request Apple Support Team, for addition of the Sender to an approved list or there should definitely be a Notification to the recipient of a Blocked Email address, which should help them to identify and release such emails, at will into their Inbox and not land up losing critical Customer Communications
Cloud based Spam Filtering Solution Providers(Symantec, Microsoft and others to name a few) allows such options, as an email is now  a Business Essential Document and should be securely delivered to recipients

This issue has become increasing prevalent over the last year and a half and has been covered by a number of reputable websites doing their own testing:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2029570/silent-email-filtering-makes-icloud-an-u nreliable-option.html

No bounces are sent - messages are being accepted by Apple's mail servers and then filtered before they reach users inboxes. This is a pretty big deal.

  • Outgoing email alleged to be "SPAM": ominous and serious privacy implications

I attempted to send a link to a friend, and Verizon's software prevented me from sending the message, with a message saying "....the mail server responded 5.7.1...determined to be spam."
By using the old standby workaround--guile, trickery and deceit--I was able to convey the info to my intended recipient.
But as I think about it, it's clear that Verizon must be scanning *every* email a customer sends!  What other method could Verizon be using to determine that a messge is objectionable, other than scanning the message?  And if Verizon is doing that, what is it doing with that information?  Is it reporting the info to someone, like CIA or NSA?
Now I'm wondering:  does Verizon maintain a list of "bad" addresses?
The fact that Verizon blocked this URL is additional support for something I noticed long ago:  the folks at Verizon are not too bright. First of all, the target URL contains innocuous, unoffensive information  But even more significant, how could I be attempting to spam someone if I'm sending my message to ONE individual--and at that, an individual who;s a friend, and to whom I've sent hundreds of messages?
(Nor was it easy to find this forum!  But I can see why Verizon would want to keep customers from complaining, when other customers could see that info.)
These Verizon folks are so dumb (this is not the first problem I've had with Verizon) I'm gonna start looking around for  an ISP that's not a "legacy" company, as Verizon is.

    Turtles:
Yes, I'm aware that gazillions of emails are sent daily.  It's also clear that Verizon has software (not humans) that *does* analyze messages you send--I've had the experience a few times now of trying to send innocuous, clearly non-spam messages that Verizon refused to send.
I got around it by finding the part of the message (as I recall, always a URL) that Verizon did not like and altering it in one way or another.
And the dangers are *real*, not imaginary, as you believe.  Clearly, humans have to be involved, and both humans and machines must cope with an extremely large numbero f emails, and "suspects".  We know for a certainty that the . phone companies have coopoerated with CIA and NSA, even without those agencies having to present warrants for their snooping.  And it's equally clear that it's done by computer.  No doubt NSA takes "suspicious" or otherwise flagged messages and looks at, for example, the sender and recipient, and adds those names to a database.
I would guess that the messages sit in the database until there is a sufficient level of activity to warrant raising an alarm, e.g. a sufficient number of messages to some individual on a watch list.  Then---if I were managing a NSA or CIA effort that examined emails--I would have the software kick out a list of "names to be followed up on", with priorities attached.
I personally am not worried, because anyone reading my messages will go bonkers with boredom in a short period of time.  But clearly the potential exists.  And if you doubt me, then clearly you are not aware of recent US history, e.g. various efforts the Army, FBI, and other agencies mounted decades ago (even opening snailmail!)in which innocent individuals had their privacy seriously invaded, illegally.  I would be happy to give you more details if you wish--details that are a matter of public record.

  • Verizon's Idiotic Spam Filtering Rules Are Driving Customners Away!

Your idiotic Verizon spam filter is erratically stopping me from sending email to various addresses.  I just found that an email I sent last night was labeled as spam and blocked by Verizon from going to a single person.  My email does not contain anything that could remotely be considered spam!  This is incredibly frustrating since I never know whether my email is going to be transmitted.  If Verizon does not stop blocking my email, I will terminate my account!

Maybe I don't understand peer-to-peer but I though this forum is to share your problems with your peers and maybe tc1000 an answer from one of your peers who had the same problem.  I have the same problem as tc1000, where periodically I would et my email back as undeliverable because it was detected as spam, but then turn around and send the exact same message and it would go through.  Sometimes it would take 4 or 5 tries, but it would go through eventually.  I've googled it and found that many Verizon customers are experiencing the same thing, but no one seems to have found an answer.  I thought maybe someone on this forum might have experienced it and found a resolution.

  • My email triggers spam filters

Most of the email I send seems to get through just fine, but email I send to a couple of people at one corporate client consistently runs afoul of their spam filters. I've tried two different addresses: gmail and my personal domain.
However: I find that if I send email from either address *via the web interface,* it gets through immediately, no problem. But if I send using Apple Mail (latest Yosemite running on a Macbook Pro), my messages to these individuals are dumped into the spam bin. (In the case of one recipient, most messages get through, but not all. In the case of the other, very few messages sent via Apple Mail get through.)
I can't figure out why this is happening, and the recipients have tried working with their tech people on a resolution, to no avail. Does anyone have any advice or insight to offer? Thanks so much!
PS--Email sent from my iPhone using the same addresses (and to the same problem recipients) seems to get through without difficulty.

It does, though they are not configurable. As to any good, it's difficult to say unless you can check caught spam against uncaught spam, and spam will differ considerably from person to person.

I would like to remove my photo from all outgoing emails on my IMac. Could someone help? Thanks.

I am guessing that you are referring to the image that Mail puts next to the headers - this is what is in your Address Book, and is just there for convenience.  Your photo is not sent with any message unless you attach it via a file or otherwise include it in the message contents.

  • My outgoing email suddenly quit working.  Settings are correct, but says server unable to send. Can receive fine.  This happened on both Iphone

My outgoing email suddendly stopped working.  Happened first on my IPhone, msgs were stuck in outbox.  This self-corrected, and now my Mac Pro will not send email.  It says server not able to send, but I can receive fine.  No changes were made.  Settings are correct.  Any ideas what's wrong?

OK, I thought you'd like to know that I figured it out!   Yea.
I reasoned since my iphone is now sending, I would check to see if the exact same settings in the advanced mail area were the same.
The port on my phone was 110, but in advanced mail area on the mac it was 995/SSL.
I clicked on that and it defaulted to 110.
But what is strange is the 110 port is supposed to be for incoming mail (which I was getting fine even tho it had the 995 port) and the smtp outgoing I thought was a defaulted 25 port.
Anyway, when I changed the mac to the 110 port in advanced area, the mail in outbox was immediately sent.
I have absolutely no idea how the port server was changed to 995 SSL on the mac, since no one but myself uses this computer and I certainly didn't change it.  Also, it doesn't at all explain the iphone doing the exact same thing a week ago, even tho that port said 110 when I checked.  Very strange indeed, but thanks for the help anyone who is reading this and I hope this helps anyone else having a similar problem....

I've seen may posts on this issue but not seen a solution that works for me yert:
I have a @btinternet.com email address and have been happily using this via iMac, iPad and webmail to send and receive emails no problem for a long while. A couple of days ago I started having the problem where I keep getting a popup asking for a passowrk on Mac Mail on the iMac and cannot send outgoing emails. I can still send/receive with no issues via iPad and Webmail.
I have changed no settings, deleted the account and recreated it several times with no joy. The outgoing SMTP server shows offline. I'm fairly sure the settings are correct though.
I have logged in/out of webmail several times as well.
