Version Specific In-App Purchases?

Is there a way to tie-down In-App purchases to a specific version of your app? I'm aware this could be accomplished with keywords or product id
now, but in the initial version of my application, I only used the generic CurrentApp.LoadListingInformationAsync() function rather than filtering by product id or keyword.
So the problem that I have is going forward if I add an In-App purchase, it will show up on the older version of the application that does not have said functionality of the purchase (the user didn't upgrade the app).
Is there a known way to get around this limitation? Thanks in advance.
We Play Games and Stuff

No, if your app iterated through all of the products and exposed everything to the user then there isn't a way to avoid that short of updating the app not to do so.
As you've figured out, the app should only request purchases that it is aware of and knows what to do with.

  • What is the license for an App Store App?  In-App Purchase?  Re-downloads?

    Hello All!
I purchased an iPhone 3G when they initially came out. My wife bought one (and uses my iTunes account on it exclusively) about six months later. I couldn't find and understand what the licensing agreement was about installing the same app on multiple devices. I wanted to be legal and do it right, but I knew I could download the same app on both phones (with a single purchase) since they both use the same iTunes account.
I asked the iTunes store support via e-mail for a clarification of the policy since I couldn't find or understand the legal version of application licensing through the iTunes store on the Apple website. I got the run-around and no simple yes or no answer after several back and forth replies. So, I posted a message here and received a number of replies telling me that it was legal (not just possible, but LEGAL according to the EULA and the iTunes Store's licensing agreement -- which does vary considerably with each type of product sold). I proceeded accordingly since then based on that information, since I couldn't get a simple yes or no answer from iTunes Support about the really simple question I asked them. I was just attacked about my total ignorance on a different website by a user when I questioned the change in In-App purchase policies. I know Apple has seen a spike in these purchases, but it's been driven (quite literally) by the GPS app subscriptions, not true in-app product purchases.
Up until now, I've avoided in-app purchaes because I just didn't like the fact that if it was lost due to some failure in hardware (or backups not working correctly, as that was a real problem with the iTunes software for some time for me), I had no ability to re-download it again, like the app itself. Now, with the policy change allowing for developers to avoid having to make a Lite version and make buying the full version an in-app purchase, this will make it unavoidable for certain applications if I want the full version.
*So, I've got several questions, and would appreciate an Apple employee response, in addition to others who really know (and aren't just doing what is possible). Is it legal for a purchased app to be installed on multiple devices concurrently? If that is legal, can an in-app purchase be installed on multiple devices concurrently (and is possible to make this download without additional charges)? And finally, can in-app purchaes be downloaded again if there is a hardware failure (and no valid backup to restore from) or do I have to buy it all over? If that last question has an answer of no, it's going to help me determine who I buy from.*
I'm not a fan of these in-app purchases since they weren't re-downloadable when problems occurred (as least that's what I was told), so as I said, I've avoided them. Obviously, I'm going to have to change that policy, but I want to know that my purchases will be safe. I like seeing the app on my computer's hard drive as a real file (and in iTunes as a listed application).
I'd appreciate someone clearing this up for me as I took the first time I asked as a basis for my decisions since then and now I'm being told that was all wrong. I wish there was a simple link, in non-legal terminology, that would explain the licensing rights for each type of product being sold in the iTunes store on the Apple website itself. If there is such a place, iTunes Support should have told me about that when I contacted them in the first place when my wife first got her phone (but instead, I had to get answers here because it seemed like Apple's support is just automated computers guessing at appropriate responses to questions). It was such a simple question and I couldn't get an answer, even after 2 or 3 back and forth replies. It was rediculous!
Would someone please clear this up for me?
    Thanks!
    Jim

    @wjosten:
I really appreciate your input, but I'd like an Apple employee response to rest my hat on (like JasonL, who has responded to my posts previously -- his user account is marked with an Apple icon and says Apple Employee on it). I know it's not official, but after getting attacked on another website for this question, I knew I had to head here. I couldn't get straight answer from Apple's iTunes Store Support, so I wanted to have someone attached to Apple sticking their neck out.
*A few questions for you, though, with the in-app purchases of both subsciptions (like with the GPS apps) and product additions, since I've never used them before because of fear of losing them. When you make an in-app purchase, and then I want to put it on my wife's phone, does it come up the same box saying it's free to download because you've already purchased it? How does this work with subscriptions, which would have to update the developer's servers somehow (to know how long to provide a service for)? I have MotionX GPS and need a subscription for esentially the app to work fully. I'm still in the 30-day free window, but it's not installed on my wife's phone. If I want to continue the service, will I be able to buy one subscription and just re-download it on her phone (and it would give her phone the same expiration date for her service from them)? Would it just update MotionX's system when the initial purchase is made and any additional downloads would be ignored (as long as they were made under my iTunes account)? This is particularly confusing because MotionX says you can stack subscriptions, so I would think each download would have to be paid for in order to do this. See what I mean?*
*I know about music being non-redownloadable, but also thought the same was true for all media except for apps (movies, TV shows, etc.). Is that also not true? It's not a big issue for me, since I don't get most of my media from iTunes, but I'd like to know the right answers when I do.*
Thanks for helping someone who doesn't understand Apple's SLA's or how to find them online on their system. Yes, I'm a PC, but am considering a Mac for the near future, but I've never had a lot of luck finding information in Apple's support knowledgebase at all. Microsoft's KB works better, but it just may be I'm used to it since I've used it for almost 20 years. I've only been using Apple's for going on 15 months.
Really, if you can clear up these other questions, I'd be happy to call it solved. I appreciate it a bunch!
    Take care!
    Jim

  • Photoshop Express 3.0 - Information on in app purchases, looks and borders

Thank you for using Photoshop Express. In our latest 3.0 version, we revamped the rendering engine in order to deliver great new effects, improved editing controls and a streamlined user experience. That means some things you were familiar with may not be available in this version.
In-app purchases have been renamedThe “Effects Pack” that you previously purchased has been renamed "Premium Looks Pack". You still have access to this Pack.
The “Camera Pack”, which provided Noise Reduction, is now called "Noise" and can be found in the Corrections slider menu.
Restoring in-app purchases. You do not have to initiate a re-purchase.
If you've previously purchased either of the packs above, they are still available to you by restoring your purchase, which is accessed in Settings.
Other changesPrevious Effects and Borders have been replaced with Looks, Premium Looks, and Borders. Some of the new looks replicate many of the most popular effects. We will be adding new borders, looks and sharpen controls in future releases.
We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for future releases.  We value you as a customer, and hope you like the new borders and looks and continue to enjoy using Photoshop Express.

There was a big change in Photoshop Express 3.0 in the rendering engine. Many items that users accessed often were incorporated in the new release before it went out, but there are other features that had to be implemented differently due to the new rendering engine. Many of these items are on a roadmap for future versions. There are yet others that are more difficult to implement and require more research as to how they would be added. We have a survey out to offer users a way to give input as to which features they are most interested in. (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DYGG2RH ) Feel free to give your input here.
New versions will be released shortly that will include the Sharpen tool and some of the features you have been requesting. We are also working on adding several additional looks and many symmetrical borders, similar to those you used in previous versions. These features will be added in the near future. We appreciate your patience.
For those who wish to restore an old version of Photoshop Express:
    Please see the FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1298203
    Pattie
Also, please see this post by the Photoshop Express product manager:
    Hi there,
I am sorry many of you are frustrated with the new version. We made the choice to move forward with a new rendering engine which gives us significantly improved editing and capabilities. Unfortunately, that hindered us from being capable of some previous effects and borders. This decision was driven by low usage numbers on the effects we were no longer capable of, which I apologize affected your workflows. We hope you like the premium looks that we developed which are free to you if you restore your purchases (settings menu). We also took the step to create brand new borders, which we will continue to add to as we go along. Again, I apologize that the features you used previously are no longer available. We hope you continue to use the product and give the new features a shot.
    Sincerely,
    Ian Parks

  • HT1933 is there any way to tell which device an in app purchase was made from.  I have 4 ipads and need to see who made the unauthorized purchase.

I need to see which of my ipads specific in app purchases were made from.  Is that possible.

    No
    Sorry

  • HT4009 How long does it take for apple to return with the needed code for in app purchases.  We have a developer working through elance that states he submitted a finalized version last friday to apple and is still waiting to get the code back from Apple?

We are being told by our elance developer that he is just waiting on apple to return the code for in app purchases with our app.  he says he had to submit a complete version before they would give it to him and that he did that last friday.  Needless to say i don;t beleive him.  Can anyone validate for me the process of getting the code installed into our app and how long it should really take.

I'd say an average of one week, depending on backlog. Expect two if you are outside the US.
The outage has caused some lingering effects that seem to be delaying things for some, however.
Patience is key in all things when it comes to being a developer

  • Do I have to pay for the In-App-Purchase of the new GarageBand-version if I already paid for GarageBand before?

    Hi there!
I am using GarageBand for some months now and I´m really happy with that software. Yesterday the new version (2.0) was released and it is now for free. However if you want the whole bundle you have to get the available in-app-purchase. This however means having to pay once again for something I already paid for, correct?
Or is the in-app-purchase for free to those people who already paid for the app?
    Thank you very much!

Just tried - sign in to the account you used to buy the software and click restore purchase. The old Garageband users are automagically given the full version by internal systems of Apple.

  • TS1702 I did an in app purchase to get the full version of the app and I still have the lite version. how do I get the full app?

I downloaded the light version of My First Book of French Alphabets by
Ilmasoft. I did an In-App Purchase      of $1.99 to get the full version. Upon returning to the app to use it (it did work after the initial purchase), I still have the light version. I tried reinstalling the app but still have the light version. I have also tried emailing the developer, but no response has been received.
What else can I do? I really like the app. I would even repurchase it to get the full version, but it shows as a purchased item.
Any help for this problem would be appreciated!

    Hi,
Generally, you can switch between the light and full version of OWA, if your web browser support the full set of features. You can do this by checking or clearing the "Use the blind and low vision experience" check box. However, if you use a web browser
that doesn't support the full set of features, Outlook Web App (OWA) will open in light version.
Here is a related article for your reference.

  • I purchased an auto-renewing magazine subscription through a Newsstand app on my iPad. I have downloaded the iPhone version of that app. Can I now read the magazine on my iPhone, too, without having to purchase another subscription to the same magazine?

I purchased an auto-renewing magazine subscription through a Newsstand app on my iPad. I have downloaded the iPhone version of that app. Can I now read the magazine on my iPhone, too, without having to purchase another subscription to the same magazine?

What does the description for the magazine and/or the magazine's website say ? Some allow you to download on more than one device, but some magazines/newspapers only allow you one download of each copy.

  • Professional version Single folio in-app Purchase+Push

    Hi everyone :
I'm finishing my first app using Professional Edition - monthly suscription and I have a couple of question
1- I'm creating a single Folio In-app Purchase version ( non consumable ), be default according with Apple it requires Push notification but according with Adobe documentation this option is only available to Enterprise so How does it work ?? Does the app have by default Push notification if it is single folio ( Pro ) in-app Purchase ??
2- I read the document A Companion Guide as the Only guide to set up all the files, ID's etc but it is not clear when the option is Single folio In-app. I know that the ID for the folio is the same as the ID for the App ( AdobeID=AppleID ). The content Viewer creates the .ipa and .zip files with the unique folio embedded and then I have to test the Purchase with the Test user but if the Content Viewer only has one folio where will go the BUY button ??
3- I tested the application without create the Test User ( Through iTunnes load the app in an approval Device ) and everything looks OK so how can I test the Purchase ??
4- Uploading the app ( .zip ) using the Application Loader will be enough to have the Content Viewer app and the Inn-App Purchase ready ??
Sorry but I can not find clear instructions for this scenario

    1. Push notification is not Enterprise only. If you're creating a subscription multi-folio app that will appear in Newsstand, push notifications are required. Only Enterprise customers can use third-party push servers, but that's a different issue.
    2. Use iTunes Connect to create an in-app purchase for each retail folio. As you do so, you'll create a Product ID that looks something like "com.publisher.publication.issue." When you publish the folio using Adobe tools, you should specify that same Product ID. For a subscription app, you'll also need to set up in-app purchases for each subscription duration (6 months, 1 year, 1 month, etc.). Each duration should have a separate Product ID in the "com.publisher.publication.duration" format. You'll specify these Product IDs when you use Viewer Builder to build the app. After you build the app and sideload the .ipa file to the iPad, Buy and Subscribe options should appear in your app's library.
    3. If you don't see Buy and Subscribe options, you didn't set up your folios properly.
    4. If your .ipa file works properly, yes. If not, don't bother downloading the .zip file until you get the .ipa file to work properly.

  • How do I home share in app purchases?  I can only get the original version, I am unable to update the app to the in app purchase that a family member bought.

Family downloaded a free app.  The free app only allows certain areas to open.  Then bought the in-app purchase to unlock full app.  I cannot home share the in-app purchase with other family members. How do I do this? Thanks

Turn off the restriction you set in Settings > General > Restrictions for In-App Purchases

  • Cannot find apps purchased for iPhone and iPad in iTune

My iMac 27 running very slowly under Mavericks and since the upgrade of iTune to version 12.01.26 being impossible to complete a sync of my iPhone and iPad I decided to completely reset my iMac 27. Before doing this I copied all the files I wanted to keep on my MacBook Pro (including all my music and apps for iPhone and iPad).
The OS X Mavericks being no longer available on the App Store I completely reset my iMac 27 and installed OS X Yosemite 10.10. Once this was done I copied back all the files I wanted to keep from my MacBook Pro (running Mavericks) to my iMac 27 (now running Yosemite). There was no problem with all my music now appearing in iTune. However I cannot find any of the apps I bought for my iPhone and iPad and which I copied back from my MacBook Pro (running Mavericks) to my iMac 27 (now running Yosemite).
All the copied back apps appear correctly in the following directory of my iMac 27 :
    Musique/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
However none appear in any of the 5 sections in the Apps section of iTune.
I decided to purchase an app in the App Store to see where the related file would appear and it appears in the same directory as stated above. I can see the icon of this newly purchased app in the app section of iTune but none of the apps I recopied from my MacBook Pro. Moreover when I go in the app store to see the newly purchased app I can see that it has been downloaded. However when I try to do the same for the apps I have already purchased and recopied the App Store tells me to purchase them. When I try to do the same on my MacBook Pro the App Store tells me that the apps have already been purchased, though they were the copied apps from my iMac 27 before full reset.
Can someone help me to get all my previously purchased apps in iTune on my iMac 27 so I can sync my iPhone and iPad without loosing all the apps which appear on them ?

Fruit Ninja has a unique iPhone version and a unique iPAD version. So for this particular App you can buy both. That said, if you decide to buy the iPhone version, the iPhone version will also work on your iPAD too. But the iPAD version which you have already purchased will not work on the iPhone.
So to summarize, iPhone apps will work on iPAD, but iPAD unique or specific apps will not work on the iPhone. Some apps are designed to work on both beyond the features of just the iPhone app. The Fruit Ninja HD unique or specific iPAD app will not work on the iPhone.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite I have lost iPhoto. It has a cross through it in Finder, but I clicked on it and I was directed to download the latest version from the App store, but it is not available in the Australian store. Can anyone help?

After upgrading to Yosemite I have lost iPhoto. It has a cross through it in Finder, but I clicked on it and I was directed to download the latest version from the App store, but it is not available in the Australian store. Can anyone please help? I am not an advanced user and I would like my photos back, having had no idea I would lose iPhoto in the upgrade!

Thanks petermac87...but for some reason, the only purchases showing are OS. So assuming iPhoto is in Mountain Lion, I was hoping to look under Hidden Items there as you suggested, but there is no option for that. Only option is to download Mountain Lion again, not iPhoto specifically. Any ideas welcome!

  • Cannot make in-app purchases or retrieve purchased in-game content

HELP!! Before anything else, this problem started immediately after the big iTunes update a few weeks ago. I have 32gb/3rd gen ipod Touch and it should not be experiencing these problems. I have latest software, also have in-app purchases turned on in settings on Touch.
There are only two games I play regularly that have the in-app purchase feature. One is We Rule & other is DragonVale. I can click on the area where purchases can be made, but when I attempt to do so, it freezes the screen and I have to reboot iTouch. I've even had to un- and re- install both games NUMEROUS times. When I go back in, I can still play the game (collecting coins, harvesting crops or feeding/breeding dragons), but cannot make in-app purchase. I got a new game called Twisted Lands which has an in-game unlock feature (costs $) and I can't even unlock that game. Also, in We Rule, there is content that was purchased with cash (and not the game's version of cash, which is called mojo....you purchase mojo and then are able to rush crop production, purchase specific content, etc). Some of the content that was a cash only transaction is now unavailable to me due to this problem. For example, I have crowded realms in We Rule and did re-decorating. As such, I have to place certain items in the game's inventory....some items which were paid for as a direct cash (via iTunes of course) purchase. Because of the in-app problem, I cannot retrieve or access my own previously purchased content that sits in frozen game limbo (the item will show as loading but of course it never does).
I've written to both game developers, ngmoco (for We Rule) and backflip studios (for DragonVale). Both were extremely courteous and both feel positive the problem is on iTunes' end and not theirs. I also wrote to iTunes/Apple Support and they have been unable to provide a solution. Their latest email to me was to come to this forum and post this problem. I was so frustrated the other day that I uninstalled both games, turned features off and then back on, restored iTouch to original settings and then reinstalled both games....did not help.
I also thought about uninstalling iTunes on my computer and reinstalling it but have never done so and a little worried about doing that. I honestly don't know where else to turn or what to do about this problem. Anyone that can provide advice or assistance would truly be helpful. Thanks in advance!!
