Veth drops on nexus1000v toward vmk

Hi all,
during a troubleshooting analisys I've noted a lot of drops on some of Nexus1000v interfaces.
The 1000v is in an architecture with N7k-UCS FI 6296-UCS blade M series- Vmware Esxi5.1
1000v version is 4.2(1)SV1(5.2)
In particular the drops occurred on veth interfaces toward vmk for Vmotion and Vxlan (two different vmkx- vmk2/vmk3) , and on uplink portchannel dedicated to vxlan and vmotion.
Vxlan implementation is a L2 one.
On portchannel we use mac address pinning toward UCS End Host Mode, so the drops are quite normal ( broadcast/multicast on non designated port), but i'm worried about the drops on vmk.
I've cleared the counters on one of the veth interface, and the drops are still 0, no increment.
Someone can help me to investigate about the problem ?
Maybe some Mtu issue on Dvswitch, or on ESxi  ?
Or some performance issue ? I think these drops occur  during a peak of traffic toward a customer VM ( the traffic was only 70k ppps , so not so high to think of a performance issue..).
These are the drops on one of the vmk for vxlan  ( input+output , or output only)

Thanks for your reply,
The drops are not incrementing now, but  we experienced network performance issues  during the drops..
As soon as possible i'll try the vempkt capture, even if now i've no drops.

  • Publish to more than one iDisk

I have two iMac accounts and want to publish HomePage photos to either or both. When I open iPhoto and select an album to publish, the program only allows me to publish to one of the iDisks.
When the Publish HomePage page opens there is a drop down menu towards the bottom-left where there are two choices...my original iMac account and Counter (why Counter, is beyond me). I would like to configure this menu to have both accounts available so I could publish to either one/or the other iMac disks.
I have tried to publish to my first iMac disk and then finder-copy that icon to the other iMac disk (only a 59k doc). This works, but I am not sure it isn't because I am just accessing both accounts from the same computer and the second iDisk finds the photos on the first iDisk to display. Perhaps I should finder-copy the pictures in the Pictures folder too.
I have looked at the Export command, but this doesn't seem to create a HomePage format with themes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Scott,
Have you tried the manual way of exporting to your other iDisk?
Within iPhoto, share/export your album. Choose how you want them named, export size should be 800 x 600.
You can choose to export to a folder on the desktop, OR you can navigate to your iDisk/Pictures folder (by clicking on your iDisk in the left column of the Export window, then highlighting the Pictures folder...wait till the files show up.
Now click the button on the bottom left for "new folder" name the folder to the name of your slideshow. Now click "ok"
Wait till all your files are uploaded to your idisk Pictures folder.
If you exported to the desktop, then open up your iDisk folder (mount your iDisk), navigate to the Pictures folder and drag your folder of exported photos into the Pictures folder.
    Go to your .Mac homepage.
Go to "create a page" and choose the album template you want.
In the next window your Pictures folder will open up. Highlight the folder you just uploaded, and click the "choose" button
Now you can finish your editing, titles, etc. and you are good to go.

  • Video and internet slow

My G5 Quad (8 gigs ram, plenty of open hard drive space, Sonnet SATA card, two Geforce 6600) has an odd thing going on. When I open any streaming video source, it starts quickly and then within a minute or two the video freezes up while the audio continues. Happens in both Safari and Firefox. I have my DSL provider coming out today, again. In Activity Monitor, the browser starts fast, 98% or so, and then drops steadily down towards 20%. Is this my internet connection or a conflict in my tower? I regularly empty the cache, cookies, etc. Since it is occurring with both browsers, I am stumped.
Also, in Activity Monitor while displaying Network, data received at 650kb(!) while I am paying for a deluxe high speed DSL. Of course the ISP is claiming their service is operating at full speed.
    Any and all suggestions welcome!

Go to Network>Show>Network Port Configurations, and make sure the Interface you use for Internet is dragged to the top of the list.
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.
    https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start/device/apple-osx-tiger
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.251.200.70 behind the scenes.

  • Presenter 9 trial installation unsuccessful

I downloaded the Presenter 9 trial, ran the setup.exe file, rebooted, and when I open PPT I don't have the Adobe Presenter ribbon. What am I doing wrong? Can someone tell me what else I need to do to install this?

    Hi Christine,
To make the Presenter tab reappear in an installation of PowerPoint, you will need to re-enable the Presenter add-in by following these steps:
    1. Go to the Start Menu and select All Programs.  Locate PowerPoint in the Microsoft Office folder.   Hold down the Shift key AND right-click on “POWERPOINT” Select the option to “Run as Administrator.”  ----->
    2. Once PowerPoint is open, click on the File tab and find Options, located towards very the bottom of the menu.
    <----
    3. In the new window that appears, select the “Add-Ins” option on the left-hand menu. Next, look for the drop down menu toward the bottom of the window, next to the word “Manage.” Make sure the menu is set to the “COM Add-Ins” option, then click the “Go” button located directly to the right.
    4. In the COM Add-Ins box that appears, you will see a list of “available add-ins,” some of which will be selected via check box. Locate the “Adobe Presenter PowerPoint COM Add-In. Its button will be unchecked if disabled.
Un-check all the boxes EXCEPT for the “Adobe Presenter PowerPoint Com Add-In,” and then click the “Remove” button on the right.
    5. Once the Presenter Add-In has been removed from the list of “available add-ins,” click the “Add” button on the right.
    6. When prompted to locate the new add-in, navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Presenter 7 and select the file named “MenuLauncher.dll.” Click “OK” to continue.
NOTE:  Some users may find the appropriate file at this location:  C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Presenter 7
    7. When returned to the COM Add-Ins box, verify that the reappearance of the “Adobe Presenter PowerPoint COM Add-In” under the list of “available add-ins.” Click “OK” when ready.
    8. Exit Microsoft PowerPoint completely, then open it again via the Start Menu (as you would normally). The “Adobe Presenter” tab should now be visible once again.

  • Need to Create Volunteer Sign Up Website

I've never done anything with website development (and thus iWeb) and I'm trying to help my 13 year old son follow through on a commitment he made to create an online information and sign up website for a day of volunteer work. The idea would be be to present info on the various opportunities (make lunch at the salvation army, clean a daycare center, etc.) and then give people the chance to sign up (providing some basic info...name, phone number, etc.) on the site for the opportunity they'd like to help out on. Each opportunity would accept a certain number of volunteers, and would then be closed to additional people.
Is there a template around for something like this that would help us jumpstart the process, particularly since we're short on time? Any other insights would be welcomed. Thanks.

Open up iweb and you will find a ton of different website templates, and any of them would work for you. iWeb is really a simple drag and drop program geared towards users with no knowledge of programming. If you are going to upload to .mac this only simplifies the process. My advice would be to start messing around with templates and entering in your content. Once your happy with the look of your site you simply hit the publish button and it will be up on the web. As far as people signing up for volunteering you could use the email me button which is automatically linked up to your email address. Any other method like putting in a form would cause you to have to alter the code for the page post publishing. So take a look at iWeb and just start messing around with it, its really not complicated at all. If you have any questions as you go along just post. There are a lot of very helpful people in this forum who really know iWeb. Good luck

  • High Latency and Patket drop towards Access Switches.

    Hi,
My network Infrastructure consists of 2 core switches(cisco 3950, 24 port) and 3 access switches (cisco 2960G, 48port). No distribution layer. Both Core switches are connected to the BVI of a VPN router.PVST is running in all switches. The STP results are all good. We have 3 VLAN's in the LAN an IP routing is enables in the core switch. The network diagram is attached.
The issue we are facing is that , we get intermittent packet drops while pinging towords the access switches, and there is always a higher latency towords these assess switches. These issues are present even with no other users using the LAN. But these issues are not present while pinging towards the GW.
I guess, it is because of this, we have issues the accessing file server in the LAN. How do we go ahead with the troubleshooting. Will upgrading the IOS help resolve this. The present version details is..
    WS-C2960G-48TC-L   12.2(44)SE6           C2960-LANBASEK9-M
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi,
Do you still have this problem of is it solved?
i have the same kind of issue, so any help or information is welcome!

  • Nexus1000V Virtual Server ICMP Drops

I have a virtual server (an NMS) behind a 1000V that is having network issues involving dropped pings to various network devices.  The 1000V is inbetween a blade center and a Dell3130.  The IP of the VM is oddly enough showing up in the arp table on the 3130 although the 3130 has no routable interface in the servers vlan.  The MAC of the IP in the arp table on the 3130 however is not the VM's mac, but the VPC peer link mac address of the 7010 aggregation switches.  Does anyone have any idea why this could happen or what is going on?  Any info would be much appreciated.

  • Exchange 2010 NLB on Nexus1000v - UCS - Cat4500

Server Infrastructure: Microsoft Server 2012 Hyper-V installed on UCS Blade Servers. Network infrastructure is Nexus1000v for HyperV - FI62xx (endhost mode) uplinked to Catalyst 4510 Core Switch.
Plan: Deploy Exchange 2010 NLB with two servers, each with one network card, NLB mode: IGMP multicast
    Configured:
    - Catalyst: static ARP for Cluster VIP
    - Nexus1000v: disabled IGMP snooping on servers VLAN
All configuration is acting strangely, it works for some clients but not for others, if we stopped one node in NLB, more things stops working but some works fine.
Nexus1000v configuration guide describes only NLB Unicast scenario.
I suppose that something is missing in configuration.

N1k only supports Unicast NLB.  For multicast & multicast+IGMP NLB there are a few things we can do that are not ideal because there will be excessive traffic flooding.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_2_1_s_v_1_5_1/release/notes/n1000v_rn.html#wp117941
    NLB with multicast (non-IGMP)-
The NLB cluster uses a unicast IP address and non-IGMP multicast mac (03:bf) so IGMP is not used. N1k floods this frame.
This method could overwhelm the network in some situations.
    1.    Use a dedicated VLAN for NLB VMs to limit mcast replication & flooding.
    NLB with Multicast+IGMP-
Microsoft violates RFC2236 by putting a unicast IP in the IGMP Group messages.  N1k drops these messages since they violate the RFC.  CSCue32210 - "Add support for Microsoft NLB - Multicast+IGMP mode in Nexus 1000v" is targeted for a future release.  Before this feature exists we can configure the network as follows:
    1.    Dedicate a VLAN for NLB VMs to limit mcast replication & flooding.
    2.    Disable IGMP snooping on that vlan
    vlan 10
    no ip igmp snooping
    3.    Add a static entry on upstream router for NLB cluster IP & shared MAC.
    int vlan 10
    ip arp 14.17.124.40 0100.5e7f.7c28
    4.    Use mac-pinning configuration with manual pinning NLB vEths to one set of uplinks.  This will isolate flooding to a single upstream fabric interconnect & switch.
    port-profile type veth NLB-VM
channel-group auto mode on mac-pinning relative
pinning id 0 backup 1   <-these numbers may differ in your environment

  • N1K Nexus1000v VSM Cannot See VEM

    Hello,
We are installing a N1K 4.2(1)SV1(5.1)   and for this purpose installed VSM on a Seperate DataCenter  Vsphere 5 Cluster onto a blank ESX host. Our problem is that VSM and VEM cannot see each other. What step may we missing?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Best Regards,
We followed the Installation and Getting started guides:
Cisco Nexus 1000V Installation and Upgrade Guide, Release 4.2(1)SV1(5.1)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_2_1_s_v_1_5_1/install_upgrade/vsm_vem/guide/n1000v_installupgrade.html
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_2_1_s_v_1_4_a/getting_started/configuration/guide/n1000v_gsg.html
from other Discussions we understand that something must be missing with respect to "Control Vlan"  which will provide L2 communication between VSM and VEM.
show svs connection shows that vcenter recognizes the VSM
vem status on the ESX host shows the VEM as ok
management, control and packet vlans are same vlan
show module sees only the active and ha-standby vsms, but no vem exists.
show module vem mapping indicates that somehow VSM recognizes the VEM, if the VEM 3 is absent, how could it be seen by VSM once?
One point to note is VSM and VEM are on the same host, can this be a difference between usual configuration?  Will test a case when VSM and VEM are on seperate ESX hosts.
if we put Vmware dVS instead of N1K and put a host on this Control Vlan, it may ping to other vlans, and the VMs for port-profiles can communicate to the outside world,
We don't think this is a licensing problem because by default 16 CPUs are on the VSM, and it did not change after the licens is installed.

    Hello,
I am having the exact same problem as Canero with the same software version. My setup is as follows:
    1. L3 mode with VSM and VEM on different subnets/hosts
    2. With the same set of port profiles and UCS service profile cloned, I have one host showing up in VSM and another not showing up. In my view, this rule out mis-configuration in
    a. system vlan on veth port profile
    b. vlan configuration in upstream switch and UCS fabric interconnect
    3. Sometimes, the VEM did managed to show up but can drop without any reason
    4. Sniffer trace indicates that there are bi-directional traffic between VSM and VEM
    5. show logging logfile has the following error:

  • Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2013, every VI compiles every time I open it (including quick-drop).

Hi all.  Since upgrading to LabVIEW 2013, every VI compiles every time I open it (including quick-drop).  This really slows things down!  Perhaps related, my system tells me I don't have permission/access to modify my LabVIEW ini.  Has anyone seen similar, and/or any hints towards a solution?

As a side note, LabVIEW.ini is a file that gets generated by LabVIEW when it is launched if the file does not exist. So if you are missing the 32-bit ini file, launch 32-bit LabVIEW and that file should be created.
I thought that the message: "Perhaps related, my system tells me I don't have permission/access to modify my LabVIEW ini"  might indicate that the labview.ini file cannot even be created... strange...

  • As Requested New Thread DSL low speeds and drop outs ref: Anthorny Verizon.

Please see post by Jerrold concerning the form for information requested, I have never been able to fill this out. Note also I had to sign in three times just to access your private letter to me today.
Here is a summary of problem:
When my line was first installed line speed was always between 9 to 12 Mps, which is fine for a 15 Mps line, sometimes would even go higher, so line was ok.
In October 2012 my line speed dropped to about 5 to 7 Mps, I contacted support and repairs were attemped, but did not correct the problem in fact problem became worst.  My line speed dropped to about 2 to 3 Mps.
Now from October to end of November, all repairs did not correct problem.  I was told by chat tech support that the problem was being worked on and there was an open ticket.
In December my line speed returned to normal speed was between 9 to about 13 Mps.  No one had contacted me about this so I again contacted chat tech support who said my line had been fixed and there were no open tickets so have a nice day.  I accepted this at face value and accepted that my line was now ok.
In January 2013, My line speed dropped again to 2 to 3 Mps.  I contacted chat tech support who tested line and put in a repair request.  No one had responded back to me and a week later my line started to drop in and out losing the connection completely.  I again contacted tech support who told me they had no open tickets on my account, they tested line and while we were talking on voice connection my phone started to have heavy static, both my DSL and Phone dropped out at that point.  Tech support called me back and said he was putting a repair request and that my line had problems. That night Tuesday January 29 my Phone and DSL both died, no dial tone on phone and DSL showed only power light on.  Contacted tech support by a friends cell phone and informed them of this, was told ok it would be fixed by open ticket for next day.
Repair was to be made on Wednesday January 30, no one showed up, called tech support and told repair would be made on Thursday.  Thursday late repair person showed up around 4:30 or 5:00pm, landlord gave access to building.  I did not know they were here at all, when he told me( my landlord) I tested my DSL and found it running at 1.7 Mps or below that.  When I attempted to call tech support found my phone was still dead, no dial tone at all.  Contacted chat tech support who told me ticket was still open and would be fixed by Friday, or Monday.
On Monday, phone still dead, DSL running at 1.7 Mps contacted chat support who had me take a phone to the junction box outside of building, plugged in two phones to this no dial tone at junction box (both phones work ok checked using a neighbors phone jack)  should note that on the outside of building there are two junction boxes, but one has lock on it so could not use that one.  Anyway told that DSL could not be fixed until phone is repaired.  Tried contacting phone repair and all I get is auto wait then line drops using a neighbors phone and pay phone my is dead.
Tuesday again contacted chat support now told to bad, until phone is fixed cannot help me ( was'nt that suppose to be done in first repair, fix phone and DSL given both were reported dead).
So why am I upset well look at history I now sit with No Phone service, DSL running way below what I pay for and a tech support who has said to bad not our problem.  I also do not want to hear that my line does not and cannot support the speed I pay for ( it has shown to support that speed at beginning of install up to October and again in December).
Well anyway your letter did not say where to start new thread should I do that here, or in open forum?
Oh, auto phone repair has given me a date for phone service as this Friday, I hope that at least gets done I cannot contact them any other way it seems.
You may also ref: my thread on ping rates over 600 on long distants calls for any other history, but as per your request here is new thread.  Please note as of today I have No Phone so can only be contacted by email or here.  Untill phone is repaired that's all there is.

  • The glass on my new ipad air was broken one day. I have had it for about a month. 1 day I took it out of its case as usual and the screen was splintered at the top and cracked downwards.  It had not received any bangs, or been dropped or anything.  Help!

Hi, I have had my ipad air for about a month.  The other day I took it out of its cover and it was splintered from the top with downward cracks.  It is new and under warranty so I rang the support team.  They told me that it would cost about €120 but could be repaired on the spot and they made me an appointment at the local genius bar.  I got there and they told me that I had dropped it or banged it or something.  I said I had not, they insisted that I must have done.  I repeated several times that I had not - it was obvious they did not believe me, they said I must have done.  They then told me they never repaired or replaced broken glass in any ipads, that the man on the 'Support' had been wrong.  They always replaced the whole ipad at a cost of €300.  I was devastated at not being believed and at the amount of money they were asking for.  I left and rang the support again.  I was told their system was down but to call on monday to get a quote for the reparation, I could send it to my home insurance company and they would undoubtedly cover the repair.  I asked how long this was all going to take because, I was in the middle of a big project and this was taking up my time, and also I needed the ipad for my work.  They told me it would be done in a minute.  I rang on the Monday and I was told it would take up to 5 days to send but probably it would arrive sooner (it is now thursday, I have received nothing).  I then rang my household insurance, a big company - and they told me they had never heard of such a cover.  I asked if this was because I had a very basic policy, they said, no it wasn't that - I didn't have a basic policy I had quite thorough policy, but they didn't know of a policy in any comany that would cover this sort of damage.  I was stunned - yet again I had been given false information and false hope by apple.  Yet again I was let down.  I then decided to do a further investigation on the internet and discovered a long trail of comments on Apple Forum of people who have also had splintering and cracking of the ipad air glass for no reason whatsoever.  Some have commented that the glass could be thinner in order to reduce the weight, some have said that the splintering could be caused by a weakness in the casing at the top where it is plastic (the ones that take sims) that might make it more flexible and therefore liable to crack.
All of the posts and complaints on the apple forum and elsewhere seem to point to a design fault.  However throughout all this I have been mislead by apple support staff constantly who all say different things, I have virtually been accused of lying by denying that my ipad received any kind of impact by apple staff and I have been left feeling incredibly frustrated and upset by the total lack of any kind of real help by Apple.  All this despite being acomplet apple user in my business for the last 25 years, where I have never come across this attitude towards me as a customer before.
When the screen on my iphone broke, it was because I fell in the street while I was talking on the telephone, it flew out of my hand and smashed on the pavement.  I was rolling around in agony, while my son was holding up the smashed telephone wailing 'Mama, you've smashed your iphone!!!'  This of course, I blamed on noone but myself - it broke because it fell, I paid an arm and a leg without protest to get it repaired.
This is not the case with my new ipad air.  It has splintered for no good reason at all - and noone at Apple seems to want to help me or to care!
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if there is anything else I can do to ge this matter resolved?

If it was a refurb replacing one that was under warranty, the warrany is good until the original warranty expires or 90 days from replacement, whichever is longer. In either event, it should still be covered if you've only had it for a month. (assuming you're in the US here). You can try to restore it as a NEW device rather than restoring from your backup, but this sounds like a hardware failure... I think. I'm not sure what you mean by "the top half of the screen slides". If you mean only the top half is touch sensitive, how can you determine that? You wouldn't be able to slide to unlock if that were the case...
Sorry, I'm a little confused by that description.
