Video FX (special effects) keep blacking out my clips..
I just switched from using IMovie 08 to IMovie HD because I wanted more effects to further enhance my videos etc. However, one of the very odd things I've been running across is when I try to use the special effects (mainly the Earthquake/Electricity) i apply it to my selected tab, however, once it's done applying, a black screen just shows up with just audio and no video.
I've fiddled with the "Effect IN/Effect OUT" sliders, to align when the effect comes in and exits. and I've done it with other special effects (like flash) and the others work fine. It's just with earthquake and electricity that this black screen keeps showing up over and over again.
Please help this poor noob!
Hi
Can be so many things.
1. Often the free space on the internal hard disk (start-up disk) is less than
25Gb free. When down under 5Gb it goes really strange and very instable.
2. In iMovie up to vers. 6 there can be added plug-ins. They can be faulthy or
missmatch.
3. iMovie has a pref file - rather often this can be corrupted - deleting it forces
iMovie to make a new fresh error free one. (Easiest is to make a new account, log into
this and re-try - works in same way but lot's of more pref files will be made fresh.
To start with.

Videos and special effects... (?)
Okay I just found these.. they are great! But I was wondering... is anyone else having issues when filming either backlit or in the snow?
My vids are... as best described... "mucky" looking!
Is there not an option to increase the contrast or to 'vivid color' saturate the look?
Thanks...
===== and for those that do not know about the special effects: =====
Chapter 5 Using the Video Camera page:53
Recording Video with Special Effects
You can record video with a variety of special effects on iPod nano.
Note: Video effects can only be selected before recording. iPod nano can’t add effects
to or remove effects from recorded videos. You can’t change video effects settings
while recording.
To record video with special effects:
1 Choose Video Camera from the main menu.
2 Press and hold the Center button to display the video effects palette.
3 Use the Click Wheel to browse the effects, and press the Center button to select one.
The viewfinder screen appears with the selected effect.
4 Press the Center button again to start recording with video effects.
5 Press the Center button to stop recording.
If you exit the Video Camera screen to play back your video, video effects are turned
off. To resume recording with a video effect, repeat steps 2 through 4.Okay, why am I the only one who couldn't figure out how to get Special Effects with my video camera? The User Manual instructions: see pg 7, which is correct and pg 53-54 seem to be written incompletely; and (as I read them) indicate that with "Video Camera" on the screen, the center black button should be held down, thus providing the choices of Special Effects. WRONG. What does provide the array of Special Effects, is to select Video Camera (with the black center button), opening the lens of the camera. Before recording begins, hold the center black button down until the Special Effects are displayed, THEN select one and begin recording with it by quickly depressing the black center button. To end, again depress the black center button.

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.
Basic troubleshooting steps

If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...

The built in screen in my Macbook keeps blacking out, even though the computer is on.
Hi
The internal screen on my Macbook keeps blacking out; when this happens the computer is still on - just no screen. This happens when unplugged after a few seconds, and takes a bit longer when plugged in.
If I close the lid and open it again the screen works again for a few seconds before the blackout returns. Obviously this is not the ideal work scenario!
It does not appear that this is a backlight issue (I presume) as I cannot see any image on the screen when this happens from any angle.
If I turn the brightness all the way down and then back up again the screen flicks on for a fraction of a second before anything happens again.
Any ideas what might be causing this? If I can fix it? And/or how much an Apple repair of the problem is likely to cost.
Many thanks for your help!
Martin FaintUnfortunately it sounds like the logic board... happened on a MB I have at work. That's an Apple Store replacement, and can be expensive if your mac's out of warranty. Free if it's still covered...

Problems With Saving Video in Lightroom 4. Blacked-out Frames
Hi,
I have edited 145 clips for a video I'm putting together in LR4. After saving them, most of the clips have a few frames at the beginning blacked-out, or patchy black. I do not like this effect. Does anyone know how I might correct this? Thanks!
NickMaybe it was an issue with my computer or graphics card.

Docking Station Screen keeps blacking out
So up until now, I've had no problem with the screen showing Time/charging status/Temperature when I dock the phone. But yesterday the screen blacked out (okay, dark grayed out) and I don't know how to keep it from doing that...any hints? Thanks
Okay...never mind. New to this forum, and didn't bother to check the "solutions" list. Found my answer there (brightness icon--that I couldn't see cause the screen was VERY gray). Hope everyones questions are as easy to answer as mine was!!

MacBook keeps blacking out for a few seconds
I have a weird new problem. It started blacking out (I thought it had switched itself off but it hasn't, it comes right back as it was after a few seconds) around every half hour or so. But now, just a few days after the problem began, it is blacking out every few minutes. Luckily it comes right back on and I don't lose anything, but it is annoying and certainly not right! Any ideas what this could be related to and how to fix it?
It sounds like it is either the inverter cable or the inverter board. Probably the latter. You can find repair guides, parts, and tools on ifixit.com. If your computer is under warranty, take it to an Apple store and have them fix it.

My macbook keeps blacking out. What does this mean?
So ever so often my mac book pro blacks out on me. I cant log in or do anything on my mac for that few sec. I'm wondering if there something wrong with my system or its something i downloaded?
It looks as if there's a problem with your GPU. With a Retina machine, that would mean replacement of just about everything, except, perhaps, the flash storage drive.
Print you kernel panic when you go to your Apple Store appointment. I'm betting that it's a faulty GPU but they will be able to diagnose exactly where the problem lies.
Good luck,
