Video is static and jumpy after burning disc

I digitized some old home movies in Final Cut Pro and exported them as MP2s into DVD Studio Pro, formatted the disc and burned it and the video is static and jumpy when there is a camera pan or other movement across the screen. The picture if fine when there is little movement in the frame.
The video plays fine in the viewers of both Final Cut and DVD Studio. Any suggestions?

Hi
Please post some info about your original movie format (DV, ??) and what settings did you use to encode it to MPEG2. Besides that, you would try encoding your audio to Dolby 2 (AC3) it you didn't yet. Using AIFF uncompressed audio can cause playbak problems.
Chesck this thread about * Good Authoring/Burning Practices *.
Hope that helps !

  • Hourglass and C++ message after burning disc

Every time I burn a cd (whether data or audio), the burn completes successfully, but I'm left with an annoying hourglass that only goes away when I restart. Usually this is accompanied by an item on the task bar that reads "Windows C++..." When I click on the item on the taskbar it disappears (but the hourglass remains). Checked Google groups and iLounge and found nothing.. any ideas?? Thanks!

It never shows on the Applications tab of the Task Manager, only shows on the taskbar temporarily, then disappears leaving the hourglass (I've also watched the processes but don't see any discernable cpu-usage)
I've verified that other burning applications (WinAmp, RecordNow) don't cause the same issue.. I updated the firmware and got one burn out of iTunes before it was back to the same.. the discs I burn work in my car but I've heard from others that they've had trouble playing them.. also, it's not the best workaround, but better than rebooting.. I've found I can use the 'Logoff User' option, then log back in to clear it..

  • Project is dropping audio and connections after burning

A project was created on an Intel machine running Tiger, then modified with all new assets on a PowerPC G5 with Tiger (10.4.11). When burned to disc, some menu audio is missing, and some connections (button links, menu timeouts) are non-functional. This has happened before and the solution has been:
    1) Delete all the PAR files on the PowerPC
    2) Copy the project file to the Intel machine (now running Leopard)
    3) Build and burn the project.
This is not working, nor is deleting and re-creating the offending menus. Short of rebuiliding this numbingly complex project, does anyone have a clue as to how to solve this or why this would be happening?
Disc functions perfectly in Simulator and Mac's software DVD Player; only the burned disc drops features. Both machines are running the newest version of DVDSP 4 (newer than the DVDSP 4 version that created the project file).

I started getting this exact problem when playing The Crew with my ZXR card. Audio channels start going to the wrong outputs within 5 minutes of playing the game every time. I ran the channel test after playing and stopping the game and they were still screwed up. After rebooting the PC, the problem is fixed again.
This is the first game I have noticed this problem with. This is the first game that has been this demanding on my PC and graphics cards (SLI, both running at 100% to a 4K monitor). I am wondering if the PCI bus is getting hammered too hard.
I have ordered a Sound Blaster X7 to see if the problem goes away. If not, I will be sending that back and going back to onboard audio.

  • Disappearing HD space after burning disc

Hi, everyone. After I burn a disc in DVD Studio Pro, I notice about 3 GB of space is missing from my Macbook HD. I use an external HD when burning DVDs, and DVD Studio Pro is configured to use this external for encoding and the like. I can't seem to find any new files or folders that could be responsible for the missing space. Anyone have any ideas as to what's causing this?
    Thanks in advance.

How did that go? I lost near 4Gb from my HD after burning a DVD in DVDSP 4. I checked that folder and its empty.
    Any other ideas?

  • Monitor showing static and blinking after 10.6.7 update

I have a MacBook unibody 13 inches attached to a Cinema Display. After I completed the upgrade to 10.6.7 the monitor now shows static and/or blinks randomly. It is difficult to replicate the problem, as it happens at very random intervals of time (sometimes a day goes by without it happening). Is anybody else experiencing the same problem?

The first thing i would usually try with a display issue is on the Macbook try resetting the Parameter RAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379) to help the graphics cards communicate with the external display.
If it's still happening it might be the connection or the actual Cinema Display so Thomas' questions are definitely a good next step.

  • Encore DVD's are shakey/jumpy after burning...

I'm very new to video but I've learned just enough to be dangerous, so any constructive help is appreciated.
Projects were shot on a Nikon D300s and D90(720p, 24fps), cut up in Premiere Pro CS5 and Dynamic Linked into Encore.  Using the standard NTSC, DVD defaults (didn't touch a thing), the final disc is shakey/jumpy.  Looks like flickering, but the image on screen is actually changing position in what looks like the vertical plane.
Here's where it gets weird.  .ncor files from my old CS4 system still burn beautifully.  If I open the old project in PPro CS5 and DL to Encore, shakey discs.  In the Encore Preview the project plays perfectly.
An observation I had was that the problematic timelines in Encore all had what looked like horizontal banding in the timeline "thumbnails".  The previous version .ncor files have clean thumbnails.
And if it helps, my little GoPro camera burns just fine.  What could be different between projects in CS4 and CS5?  Is it something that Premiere is doing or Encore?  Since the previews in Encore look good until you burn the disc, I'm thinking Encore is the culprit so far.
I'm sure I have left out a ton of pertinant details to help you help me, so please fire away.
    Thanks

Would it be best when using Premiere and Encore, to use Adobe media Encoder and make my video into a file, then bring that file into Encore, or does it not make any difference which way you do it as I've just been putting my timeline straight into Encore when its ready to goto DVD.
You can do it either way. But if you export, you have one more step to make sure the fields are correct. Your problem, is probably in the Premiere settings, so I would do an export from AME unless you discover you need to.

  • Video is slow and jumpy.

I bought a tv show from itunes and whenever I watch it on itunes the sound is pretty good but the picture is really slow and jerky. Can anyone help?

Can I burn them to disc? Are they viewable using another program?
If you're referring to videos purchased from the iTunes Store, then no, you can't burn them to a video disk, and they're only viewable in iTunes, QuickTime Player, or on an iPod or Apple TV.

  • Superdrive is VERY loud and won't burn discs

The last few times I tried burning a CD in itunes it has not worked properly. As soon as it began burning the songs, the drive started making a loud humming/vibrating noise. After about a third of the way through burning the song files, the disc was ejected, and an error message popped up in itunes saying that there was an unrecoverable error. Not sure if this is related, but the drive also shoots discs out when I eject them, sometimes the discs fly out and roll to the other side of the room... The discs I've inserted have been free of labels so that's not the cause of the problem. (I've read posts of people having issues with labeled discs catching in the drive).
My computer is 3 1/2 years old, so maybe the drive is just dying. My extended warranty is up, so any thoughts to the cost of repair, or if it is an easy repair to do? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Vibration can be caused by an eccentric CD, so stick to brands you know work well. I have the toaster CD ROM, too. I'm afraid you'll just have to remember to catch the CDs as they come out!

  • I am working on Premiere 6.5. why does my vid seem out of sequence and jumpy after exporting it as an avi?

I was near completion of an edit when my mother board died. I transfered the project over to my laptop, premiere could no longer read the source avi file that i was editing from. upon inspection I discovered that the avi file had becone corrupt and would no longer play back corectly so I ran it through a video converter saved it as a new file, this new file plays back just fine. When loading up the project I replaced the corrupt and AVI file with the new file. the software some how remembered all of my cuts on the time line. the vid took an unusual 10 hours to render and now plays back properly on the time line but after exporting it as both an AVI and MPG the exported files appear out of sink, out of sequence and jumps to footage that isn't even included on the time line.
whoever can get their heads around this one is a fricking legend.
    Please help.

Please tell us about your source footage, that AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background on "wrappers," like AVI.
What you describe sounds like the issues that one often faces, when trying to edit certain forms of .MPEG source footage. Both the OOS and the jumping to frames, that should not exist, are both manifestations of .MPEG's on the Timeline (not MPEG's with Export).
    Good luck,

  • Macbook pro running slow and jumpy after clean lion install

Did an upgrade to Lion.  Macbook pro was really slow, tried disk repair and repairing permission as well as resetting the smc.  No luck.  Did a clean install of Lion, still jumpy though a bit faster.  Again verified disk (didnt need repair) and repaired permission, as well as smc reset.  Still no luck.  Anyone have any ideas?

What do you mean, 'jumpy'? Also, has Spotlight stopped indexing? Check the magnifying class in the upper right corner and click on it. If it doesn't say it's indexing, then it completed that task. How much RAM do you have in your system?

    Buy iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the substitutes.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Burn disc verifying vs. verify disk with disk utility?

is there a difference from *verify disk* in disk utility and the verifying process after burn disc?

eirifying a hard drive just looks through the directory for any errors or inconsistencies. Verifying a burned disc reads all the files and compares them with the original data on the hard drive.

  • No audio on idvd burned disc- sound plays on TV fine but not on macbook DVD player

First time posting, so please excuse any naivete
Hi there, I'm having the opposite problem of many of the questions I've read on here- the audio on my burned disc won't play on my computer but is fine on my TV.  I am running the latest version of idvd on a 2008 macbook. The music for the menu is a .m4a file (?) imported from itunes and the movie is an imported project from imovie.  Both play fine in idvd preview and I have burned discs of this project before with no problems.  This time  I burned one disc through idvd, discovered the missing audio, deleted the encoded assets and re- encoded before  saving the disk image and burning another dvd through disk utility. Both dvds are having this problem .  I checked sound on my system preferences, it's on- though I can't find the "main audio" that was mentioned in another thread.  Maybe I don't have enough space on my startup disk?  I've been trashing some things to free up space, but I'm not sure where to check to see how much space I have.
I'm sending these dvds out as part of job applications so they need to be able to play right on whatever the reviewer uses (mac, pc, tv etc.)- is there a way to ensure it will work universally?
    Thanks!

Ok.  This is embarrassing.  Just saw that the sound was turned down on my DVD player on my macbook though not on my computer.  Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.
