VideoDisplay control in Vista

We are using the VideoDisplay control to display a .flv file
being streamed from a stream server. It works great except I can't
get it to work on Vista clients. I've tried it on 2 seperate Vista
machines. Does anyone know if this control is not compatible with
Vista yet?
Thanks in advance,
Todd

What is your code for streaming the video? Also, are you
using the VideoDisplay in a component or directly in your code? If
you can post some of the relevant code for your app, that might
make it easier to find the problem. Since the VideoDisplay control
itself works with Vista, the problem must lie elsewhere.

• VideoDisplay control

According to the Developers guide in flexbuilder 2 you can
use the videodisplay control to stream video. The code they show is
this:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- controls\videodisplay\VideoDisplayCamera.mxml -->
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
// Define a variable of type Camera.
import flash.media.Camera;
public var cam
public function initCamera():void {
// Initialize the variable.
cam = Camera.getCamera();
myVid.attachCamera(cam)
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:VideoDisplay id="myVid"
width="320" height="240"
creationComplete="initCamera();"/>
</mx:Application>
So they are creating a camera object using the
creationComplete event in the videoDisplay control.
My question is how does the control know where the camera is.
If I have the camera connected to my laptop (via USB) and my laptop
is on the network, how do I point the control to the camera?

It uses the default camera installed on your system.
Check getCamera() method on this link
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/2/langref/flash/media/Camera.html#getCamera()

• Airtunes, parental controls in Vista Ultimate

I just set up parental controls for the first time on two computers. An HP desktop running Vista Ultimate x64 and a Sony laptop running Vista Ultimate x32. After setting up parental controls I discovered on BOTH machines that only the administrator account can select all three options (my computer, airport express, and multiple speakers) on iTunes. In other words, Airtunes runs fine when I am logged in as the administrator but not when I am logged into the standard account while parental controls are on. All standard accounts are configured to allow access to all programs. The only restrictions are on specific web sites. The options for airport express and multiple speakers still exist but a "check mark" wont be retained and the only effective choice is "my computer." Has anyone discovered this issue and found a way around it without turning off parental controls?

Aha! Well I've been having the same problem - though, sorry, I don't have any solutions. However, for what it's worth, your post at least allowed me to let my daughters use the search facility.
In fairness, the Activity Reporting (AR) option didn't completely prevent searches - it was very sporadic.. searches would work fine a couple of times (sometimes) and then seize up.
However, switrching off AR means ITS now works all the time.
But like you, I would also like to have my PCs set the way I want them to be and not just the way iTunes allows!
Thanks for your help!

• Using Acrobat PDF Browser Control in Vista

Hi,
I've written a .NET 2.0 WinForms application that uses the PDF Reader ActiveX to display PDF files. Everything works well in Win XP and Win 2003 Server, but when I install it in Vista, my app crashes. I get no useful error message, only "[My app name] doesn't work anymore" (This is a translation of the message i get in the Dutch version of Vista).
I must add that I used .NET Framework 3.5 with the Vista installation where I used .NET 2.0 on XP. I did this because there is no explicit support for Vista mentioned on the Microsoft Download site. I doubt this would have any effect, because of the backward compatibility.
Someone suggested me that it could have something to do with permissions, but I tested all this with an administrator-account, so this is out of the question as well.
Now, I'm out of ideas... Anyone with suggestions?
Thx in advance!
Greeting
Kristof

Thanks for your reply Leonard,
Well there were 2 versions installed on the system. Version 5.x and 8.1.2. I uninstalled the first one so I'm sure he tries to use the newest one.
I must say that the software was developed using Acrobat 7, but if I'm not mistaken, the application uses the acrobat version that is available on the system it is running on, so that shouldn't matter...

• System Control Manager & Vista

Does anyone know if MSI have a version (or are working on one) of SCM that is compatible with Windows Vista

as Vista is still at Beta stage, there probably won't be a version until its release, by which time the 865PRO will have been discontinued and replaced.
you would have to ask MSI about it. if there is enough demand from 865PRO users, then they might make a version available.
How to contact MSI.

• Why spark videodisplay control does not work when i run the application?

Even in the mode design I can not see the video, thks.....

@Jorge,
Try using file:/// instead of file:/.
This seems to work for me:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">
<s:VideoDisplay x="159" y="96"
source="file:///C:/Documents and Settings/pdehaan/My Documents/My Videos/walking.flv"
loop="true"
width="384" height="267"/>
</s:Application>
But I'd probably recommend copying the .FLV file into your Builder project or putting it online instead of trying to play it back from a hardcoded file:/// path.

• Remot Control For Digital@nywhere ATSC and Vista Don't Work Together Very Well

I have a Digital@nywhere ATSC tuner card w/remote.
On Windows XP, the remote worked ok. On Windows Vista, the remote works only some of the time.
On Windos XP, the BDA drivers and utilities on the install disk loaded fine. Not so with Vista.
On Vista, the utilities on the install disk seem to load fine, but the BDA drivers fail.
Loading the Vista Digital@nywhere utilities gets the tuner card to work, but has no drivers for the remote. Leaving me to load the utilities from the install disk, and and the BDA drivers from the Vista Digital@nywhere files. A rather tedious process, with the remote only functioning sometimes.
I have tried every trick I can think of to get the remote control and Vista to work together, to no avail. I'm stumped.
I'd rather not go out and buy a new tuner card, when the Digital@nywhere ATSC tuner card works fine on Vista. I'd just like to have a remote control that works fine too. But I don't.
I hope an answer can be found for this problem.
If I haven't been clear enough, just ask, and I'll try to explain things better.
Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

Are you using Media Center in Vista? If so, buy a Media Center remote, should work with no problems.

• Vista Parental Control Settings to allow use of a networked iTunes library?

I just installed iTunes on a new Vista machine, and under a user account with no parental controls, I can access my main library on my XP machine on a local area network. However, as soon as I put on Parental Controls in Vista, iTunes running on the Vista will not allow me to access my main library on my XP machine. I get an error saying that I need to modify my Firewall (Defender) to allow access to the shared (networked) library.
Does anyone know if there are some basic settings in the Vista Parental Controls that I can change that will allow access to the shared iTunes library?
Thanks,
Paul

OK, I seem to have found a solution to this issue after looking around the web.
I did some experimentation with the allowed web site listing within Vista, and found that when I put the following allowed web sites/domains into my son's listing, I can keep parental controls running and allow him to access the iTunes store.
http://phobos.apple.com
http://phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
Actually, the second site is the one that is the one that enables the access, but the web posting that i found listed them both.
Good luck to all in providing a safe computing environment for their kids!

• Remote Control Vista Home Premium from OSX 10.6.2

I have been trying now and a little while to remotely log in and control my Vista home premium desktop without success. I would like to do it via my home wireless network without having go via the internet. I figured using remote desktop connection for mac would work. But since found out that I have to have the ultimate edition of vista to do this. I would prefer not to have to pay for an upgrade to my vista machine as this is why I just spend nearly $2K on my new mac.
Is there some type of software which can be purchased/downloaded and installed on both machines (if required) to do this??
My reason for wishing to do this, is i am fairly new to the mac world and would like to maintain and run my vista machine until i am completely settled on my Mac. It would be handy just to remote into my vista machine to complete any task or use any particular piece of software without having to try and squeeze two machines on the one desk.
thanks in advance for any assistance you guys can give.

I found a temp solution a program free to use called team viewer. Works fine. But I am going to continue to search, as there is always better out there.

• Elite Pro Remote Control and

Hi there!
First of all: I already searched the forums, but was not able to find what i was looking for.
As I got back to my XP after using Vista I recognized that there is no "Creative Enterteinment Center" for XP, which was necessary for the usage of the remote control under Vista.
So... what now?

Honestly I can not believe that there is no way to solve this problem.
I am sure that there is somebody out there that uses the Elite Pro with XP who's RC works fine.
I already tried to install that MediaSource-Program, but I have not found any options to activate the RC.
In the meantime I found out, that there has to be a RCMAN.EXE running, which is responsible for the RC.
But now after I have installed everything I could, I ask myself where the heck that task is. Which program runs that task?

This pretty much says it all:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.What version of Vista?
What version of the agent? ... 10g is not a version number it is a marketing label
Did you check to see if the agent is compatible with your operating system?
My recommendation would be to get a real operating system: Either Oracle Linux or XP.

• Moving library to a new PC, Vista, and going mad....

hi everyne.... loosing my head here could do with some help. buy a new pc and i want to transfer my ipod library from the old one.....backed it up in an external hard drive, connected drive to new pc... all working fine. Follow apple hints, create desktop shortcut of itunes on new machine.. plug in ipod and paste over itunes folder via my computer.. open i tunes no music.. look in file / import and they are there and i can import them individually but not all 3000 on mass.. anyone help please..

It depends what you managed to recover.
If it was the mother board that failed, the hard drive should be OK. You can put the drive in a drive enclosure and use it as an external drive on the new PC.
Drive enclosures can be obtained from Amazon or a store that sell computer stuff.
But if you already saved you iTunes folder containing the library files and music files you do not need it.
Assuming you had a default iTunes installation on the old PC with the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder...
If you have your iTunes folder, first install iTunes on the new PC. Do not add any music at this stage.
Drag the iTunes folder out of your music folder to your desktop.
Copy the iTunes folder from the old drive or backup into the music folder on the new PC so it replaces the one you dragged out.
Adjust the permissions on the iTunes folder so your account has full control.

• Installing Workshop Studio on Vista jdk1.5.0_09

Hi all,
I'm hoping someone who has been through this can help. I've followed all of the instructions on setting the path, tried to run the exe from the console, but nothing works. The installer fails and gives me "invalid runtime". WHen I queried my java version in the console it said:
Java version 1.5.0_09
Java <TM> 2 Runtime environment, standard edition <build 1.5.0_09-b03>
Java Hotspot <TM>Client VM <build 1.5.0_09-b03, mixed mode, sharing>
I've disabled the user access control in vista to avoid potential probles (I find the UAC very annoying lol) but the problem does not appear to be with Vista, but with the installer finding my jre. How do I resolve this? Everything appears to be installed and configured correctly...am I missing something?
Thanks!

This is a known issue on Vista. The workaround is very simple -
Right Click on the installer > Properties - Compatibility options - choose to run as compatible with XP.
Click OK, then restart the installer. http://forums.bea.com/bea/message.jspa?messageID=300000580&tstart=0

• I have 64-bit Vista on an HP laptop, and am having trouble with P4

I have 64-bit Vista on an HP laptop, and am having trouble with P4. When I go to the "Compatibility" tab in for the P4 .exe file, 32-bit Vista does not show up as a compatibility option. The latest version shown is XP with SP2. Am I missing something? Is there a patch or download that updates P4?(The problem I'm having is stuttering and stopping in the imported avi2 files I have downloaded from my Panasonic digital camcorder and converted from avi to avi2 using DVDate. Also, I get stuttering with digital photos - jpg files - that I want to insert in the movie with added narration.)

A.T. Romano
It gets a little complicated. This is a simplification, but I hope this
helps to visualize what's happening.
The 32 bit and 64 bit environments are separated from each other.
There are separate program files directories, separate shared dll library
directories, and even separate registry entries. You can't mix 32 and
64 bit modules, and some applications, like Internet Explorer, install
both a 32 bit and a 64 bit version on the same computer. (IE does that
so it can process web pages that use 32 bit executable controls).
Vista 64 has 32 bit emulation built-in using a subsystem called Windows
on Windows 64 or WOW64 for short. WOW64 intercepts 32 bit
application calls to the operating system and handles the 32 to 64 bit
conversions and the redirection of the file and registry locations.
The program files themselves contain flags that indicate whether they
are 32 bit and whether the file uses the 64 bit version of the file
structure.
If the program is marked 32 bit, it will run in 32 bit using WOW64.
Programs are generally installed by an installer program which places
the application files in the proper locations and writes the registry
entries and any other setup tasks that are needed. To install a 64
bit program, a 64 bit installer is needed. For 32 bit installers, the files
and registry entries are redirected to the 32 bit locations.
