Vinagre triggers gtk bug on certain arches (eg x64)

had a tough time persuading google to give me meaningful results, so I share it:
when trying to connect via VNC to my girlfriend's macbook under leopard, I get this:
$ vinagre
The program 'vinagre' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)'.
(Details: serial 1724 error_code 12 request_code 1 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

ideas? (except using tightvnc)
Last edited by lloeki (2008-06-04 20:18:32)

I tried to find a solution for this for a while but when I found it wasn't vinagre/gtk-vnc fault I left it alone.  What really confuses me is that it occurs for me intermittently and when I reboot the issue disappears...
Edit: what do you mean the patch does not work.  Did you rebuild everything (gtk2, gtk-vnc, vinagre) after applying it?

I seem to have this bug where whenever I use three fingers to go back in certain applications, in this case the new iTunes 11 store, it completely shuts down the feature until I go into systems settings, turn it off and on. It will work until I do it again.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

  • IPhone Remote Bug with certain band name

if you click on the band "Songs: Ohia", it returns a list of songs as if you clicked "Songs". I guess "Songs:" is passed search parameter. I'd like to submit the bug to Apple, but I'm not a developer.

    Hi,
Since I upgraded the Remote software to version 1.3.3 (4) it seems that when I'm browsing the music Library of my Apple TV, I can click on any artist and or album. So far so good, but after selecting, the tracktitle is shown on top of the screen, but the track is not loaded and cannot be played.
If I unplug my Apple TV then it works again, but after browsing and changing tracks 1 or 2 times, the bug occurs again.
Martijn I've read your the post and tried to delete the songs/artists that have the word 'Edit' in it, re-synchronized the apple TV with my iTunes Library, but no luck for me.

  • Photos app bug resurrects long-removed photos (related to PNG alpha)

Wanted to report/discuss a possible privacy concern and image glitch, and understand it better for submission to Apple's feedback page: the iPad (and maybe iPhone) Photos app will consitently resurrect long-deleted photos in your Camera Roll, under certain circumstances. These are long-removed photos (as in removed many months ago, prior to the iOS 5 update), and possibly only the reduced-size thumbnail versions.
Note: as near as I can tell, the deleted photos were NOT originally from the camera roll! That's where they resurface, but I believe they are photos from other albums, maybe once which used to by synched to iPad but which I no longer synch. So "removed" might mean deleted or it might mean "no longer synched to iPad"... the images are so old I can't recall.
So the bug, I'm guessing, it two-fold:
    1) The Photos app (and/or iPhoto during wired synch?) is not fully removing photos (or at least, their thumbs). They're no longer visible in Photos app, but are being retained somewhere on the device.
    2) A glitch in the Photos camera roll PNG handling (which I think may be new with iOS 5) causes those old images ro re-surface when you add a PNG to the camera roll. (The old photos were JPEG, but the image that triggers the bug must be a PNG with alpha channel)
I have seen this on both an iPad 1 and iPad 2, running iOS 5.
    Here's how to reproduce it:
    1) Synch some photos to your iPad, then deselect them for synching and re-synch (so they're not there any more). Also, add some photos or screenshots to the camera roll and then delete them. I say to do both because I'm not 100% where the old photos come from, and I'm hoping this covers all bases! Actually, most people have already done these things in the past, and can probably skip this step.
    2)  Generate a transparent PNG using the art app Procreate (and probably any app that saves PNGs to the camera roll with alpha channel). All you have to do is scribble somethign into a blank Procreate canvas, then export it to your photo album. There is no need to do anything special to get an alpha channel or PNG format: you always get that. (Unless you used the Fill command to completely cover the canvas.) Now in the camera roll there should be your scribble on a transparent background. You can email it to yourself and see that clearly in Photoshop or Preview.
    3) Here's the glitch: look at your camera roll (thumbnails view) and you'll see that the alpha-transparent background of the image has become one of your old removed photos! Tap it to enlarge and the alpha becomes black (which is fine, although it may seem odd if you intended to paint onto the default white canvas). But for just a moment, before you see the black, you will get a full-size glimpse of the old photo. (Or, maybe, an enlargement of the thumbnail?)
    4) If you keep saving more alpha PNGs, you'll keep seeing more and different old photos coming back to life in the alpha regions of the thumbnails (and, briefly, at full size).
    5) If you delete all those PNGs and then save some new ones, you'll see the same sequence of old photos reappear again.
Needed fix: removed phtos/thumbnails should be properly purged, and alpha PNGs should show simply black (or some default background) at all times.

Ok, I replicated it and I don't like it! I didn't use the one you marked cause I couldn't call it up properly but I did Bing
transparent gifs and loaded up 3, one was totally invisible in the thumbnail and I could clearly see one of my pics perfectly in the thumbnail but when I brought it to page the gif filled the frame.
I have no idea where the pic came from, I mean I recognize it but from where in the album I have no idea.
Oh yeah, I was wrong about the first pic coming to page, it wasn't the same image but a different one...and I have no idea how the one that came up, (what i thought was the underlying pic) did, or how it got there or even from where.
This is some weird stuff though not as weird as that silly *** movie, what a load of tripe; I should have just spent my
time on this, it's infinitely more enjoyable!
Ok, here's the consensus from my layman iPad view:
What happened now and most probably before was a 'transparent gif' or a partially transparent gif like the one I spoke of first that I could see the edge of or the outer perimeter of, the underlining image with the gif taking up say 3/4 of the thumbnail; this it what it was.
This is totally apparent to me now because of your having me import a totally transparent gif which was invisible over my pic, thus the freaky part I didn't like...keying the thumbnail with one thing and ending up with something totally different when brought to page.
Still doesn't explain where this silly iPad is grabbing these pics from?
But here's something funny; my camera roll shows say 9,200 pics but my, 'iMy System' app say I have like 11,300 which I always thought was a fluke, that it was just reading wrong but maybe it's seeing something we're not.           What if all those pics we're deleting to save space or just generally culling have never left the system?                     Maybe that goofy app is really reading the true count!
Those others up above us here who mentioned privacy concerns.. this could be whats going on, there's a ghost
in the machine and it be our old pics and god knows what else floating around in that iPads memory.
Ok, I'm crazy tired and I have to wrap this up. Least now we know how to replicate this but on the other hand I think we opened up an even bigger can of worms... the mystery of where all those images are hiding in our iPads?
I haven't hardwired to a computer since I upgraded to ios5 so whatever's going on here, leastwise for me is iPad
based and can't be blamed for synching issues like you discuss up above unless what I'm grabbing here is old stuff
reimported back into my pad from the mainframe when I was backed up for the ios5 upgrade?
Oh well, let me know what you think. Please do forgive my not getting back to you sooner on account of the movie
but you already know I regret choosing that over this! Hope you had a good night and thanks...

  • Bug in JATO 1.2

    Hi all,
I deployed JatoSample.war in Iplanet App server. It
was working fine. But when i deployed the same in
Weblogic and tried to run using url
i was getting error as no setter methods found for
getTitle() in HrefTag.java. When i went through the
framework source code it was setTitlet(String) instead
    of setTitle(String).
Then i changed the source code, compiled and created
new JATO-1_2.jar file. Then it worked fine.
Even i documentation the function name is setTitlet().
It's better to change in the source .

There is a known bug re: certain tags (HREF and Form) being used in jato

    released now.
Is the jsp fragment that you describe below a JATO "pagelet" as per the
JATO recommendation for jsp fragment based component design?
I am not sure why it would have appeared to work within resin and
tomcat, until we have more detail on the problem. But I would suggest
getting JATO 1.2.1 and testing witht that.
    Sorry for the confusion.

The error message indicates that a HREF tag must be used in the
context of a "container view". The jsp fragment containing the HREF
    is included at translation-time (i.e. <%include file="..."%/>).
Including the jsp fragment into the main jsp avoids the problem.
The same WAR file works fine under Tomcat 3.2, 4.0 and Resin 2.0.5
    but not under Jrun 3.1.
    a) Are there any constraints/prerequisites to be considered before
running JATO into servlet/jsp containers ?
    b) Aren't we running into some JATO tags context problems ?

  • Bug in Pages

Found a bug in Pages with Lion. In full page the style panel won't open &amp; is greyed out. If Pages is not in full page &amp; open in Finder it works as it should.

My guess is that it's a feature, not a bug but certainly use the feedback option to let Apple know that you'd like to see the styles panel while in full screen mode.

  • Bug:  Fatal error in iropt

    Hi,
While compiling our code Octopus, I found a bug in the sun studio express fortran compiler (in x86 linux and sparc solaris). I made a bug report, but in that moment I wasn't able to reduce the file to a single file and in the bug report and I gave a pointer to our svn repository.
Now I was able to reduce the bug to a single subroutine and I would like to modify the report, but I couldn't find how to do it. My Review ID is 944794. Shall I submit a new bug report? As I will commit a workaround, my report will not be valid.
In any case I post here the code that triggers the bug, it appears when optimizations level is 3 or greater. The error is:
    iropt: ../src/sr.c:8153: af_create_ir_node: Assertion `af->type == AF_NODE' failed.

end subroutine subRemoving the 'last = ...' statement of the loop or removing the 'print*... ' sentence the bug dissapears.
By the way, I am quite impressed with the perfomance of the sun studio compiler. I made some preliminary tests in x86 and for our code it seems to be faster than any other compiler.

  • BC4J bug in 9.0.3.3

    Hi,
I've just downloaded Jdev 9.0.3.3 and the very first thing I tried seems to have a bug. I tried to remove an attribute from a BC4J entity using the Entity Object Editor. The first thing it does is lock up for about a minute, then it eventually starts responding again. However, the attribute I deleted still exists so I press the Delete button again - the IDE immediately crashes. Is this a bug -it certainly didn't do this in previous versions of Jdeveloper.
    Steve

    And they said:
Bug:3120608 DELETING AN ENTITY ATTRIBUTE CAUSES EXCEPTION, THEN CRASHES JDEV,
this bug is an internal one, filed for version 9.0.5.13.66 and fixed in version 9.0.5.13.67.
    So don't hold your breath!

  • Flash CC Eraser Faucet Bug. Mac Only? (video included)

I've reported this bug, but haven't heard a reply since I submitted the screencast video they requested.
This happens in Flash CC on MacOS X (10.8, 10.9 tested)
The issue: When using the eraser faucet tool to delete overlapping lines, the line or contiguous group next to the target will sometimes vanish. The Undo command will only bring back the intentionally deleted lines, not the ones that vanisheded on their own.
As a result, I can only get back all the overlapping lines I intended to delete, not the drawn object I wanted to keep.
I know this bug dosen't happen in CS3 (after using this tool extensively for a week on an animation project)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM0Fnz9aFxk
I haven't seen this bug occur on Windows yet, but if people want to try and replicate the bug demonstrated in the attached video, the results might be informative.

Here is a sample file to recreate the bug.
    Instructions:
•Open File in Flash Professional CC on MacOS X 10.8 or 10.9
•Use the Erase Faucet tool to delete all the RED lines
•If a BLACK line disappears, attempt to Undo the action
    Observed Bug:
Black lines connected to the Deleted red lines may disappear accidentally.
Black lines which disappear in this manner do not reappear when the Undo command is used, only the Red lines do.
I've triggered the bug twice. The first time the left eye disappeared, the second time two fingers on the right hand disappeared, but the eye did not.
I recommend trying to delete every red line from the image, and see if a black line vanishes as described. If the bug does not trigger, reload the saved file and try again.

  • (BUG with) -  Targeted Adjustment Tool

The Targeted Adjustment tool will stop functioning after I use the magnifier.
When I attempt to use the tool, it only functions as a magnify glass.
When I quit Lightroom and relaunch it, it restores the Targeted Adjustment tool back to a functioning state.
One thing that may be triggering the bug is that I often use the photoshop keyboard commands for magnify +/- out of my 15 year habit with that tool, and it works in Lightroom too, but is this causing the Targeted Adjustment tool to suffer?

I think I also see this now (and a work-around).
    I did the following:
    1. Open Lightroom and go to Develop.
    2. Select the Target Adjustment Tool (like tone curve).
    3. Press (and hold) Spacebar, while holding that down, press (and hold) command
    4. Click to zoom in.
    5. Release the spacebar, then release the command. The cursor still shows a hand with the move-around and zoom functionality. Clicking the Target Adjustment circle in the Tone Curve box does not restore adjustment functionality.
    Workaround:
    6. Now press (and release) Spacebar. The target adjustment works now.
It appears that Lightroom does not recognize any spacebar commands while the command key is being held down. I can't enter zoom mode by holding command and then holding spacebar, and I can't exit zoom mode by releasing spacebar while command is down. In this case, it seems that pressing and releasing spacebar afterwards (when command is not down) sends the "spacebar-up" command and Lightroom gets out of the zoom mode.
Note that I can't get this to happen with any other ordering of presses/releases.
Does this help? I agree that this definitely is a bug. Now that we've narrowed it down, how do we forward this on to Adobe? Is someone reading this that can forward this on?

  • NetWeaver and Sun JVM bug 4957990?

Hi, does anyone know if and how NetWeaver is affected by Sun JVM bug 4957990 ? <a href="http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4957990">http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4957990</a>
    Thanks,
    Victor

The suggested SUN workaround is simply to increase your PermSize. The default recommended size for NW04 is 192MB. If you get OOM in the Perm space then that suggests you might be hitting this bug (or your Perm space is just to small...). You should first simply increase the PermSize to something larger such as 256MB which is the suggested size for 7.0 (2004S) kernels anyway. But remember that Perm counts in your Heap so make sure you don't get things too big if you are on 32-bit OS.
Based on my reading of the bug report it is not guaranteed that you would experience this bug, though certainly it seems possible. There are no published SAP Notes regarding this SUN bug to my knowledge.

  • Warning - gradient fill bug found

I have reported this bug to Adobe. Watch out so it won't bite you.
Short version: gradients can disappear completely when exporting to pdf
    Long version:
    A. Gradient fill with default settings. First color starts at 0% and second color ends at 100%.
Copy an object with this color to Illustrator or export it as a pdf file. This works fine.
    B. Change the start color to 5% and the end color to 90% (anything other than 0/100 will trigger the bug)
Copy and paste an object with this gradient fill to Illustrator. Result: no fill color
Export object to PDF. Result: no fill color
    C. Default gradient fill (0% to 100%) + add a third color = works fine
    D. Same as C. but change the start and end colors as in B. Triggers the bug again
Bug verified in InDesign CS6 and CC on OS X 10.8.4
    Bug verified by Adobe Support.

Hi everyone. I work for a large format printing company. We receive thousands of files every year from many different designers. We started to notice that gradients would drop out of some PDFs when opening them in Illustrator but they would preview fine when opened in Acrobat. I searched high and low for an explanation for this glitch. The only response I received is "Stop opening exported PDFs in Illustrator." This is an unsatisfactory answer for someone that needs to preflight directly in the Illustrator program. I've done a ton of research and have been racking my brain for the last 2 years and have finally found sufficient workarounds for this issue. The downfall with these workarounds: all spot colors located in the gradients will convert to CMYK mixes. I'm still researching to see if there is a way to keep spot colors intact in these areas.
A little back story: InDesign is converting the gradients into something called NChannel. It enables more accurate handling of color blending by including additional dot gain and color mixing info. Both InDesign and Acrobat have the ability to display these elements whereas Illustrator, from what I’m finding, does not. Which is why we’re seeing gradient elements drop out when opened in Illustrator.
    Workaround for CMYK Gradients
Open PDF exported from INDD in Acrobat
Go to Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors
Object Type: Smooth Shade (this tells Acrobat to hone in on Gradients only)
    Color Type: DeviceCMYK
Check Embed next to Conversion Profile (should be SWOP)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select DeviceCMYK in Color Spaces then click ok
    Save the PDF
Workaround for 1 Spot Color in Gradients (Converts Spot Color located in Gradient to CMYK – all other Spots stay intact)
Open PDF exported from INDD in Acrobat
Go to Tools > Print Production > Convert Colors
Object Type: Smooth Shade (this tells Acrobat to hone in on Gradients only)
    Color Type: Spot Color
Check Embed next to Conversion Profile (should be SWOP)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select the Spot that is located in the Gradient in Color Spaces then click ok
    Save the PDF
Workaround for 2 Spot Colors in Gradients (Converts Spot Colors located in Gradient toCMYK – all other Spots stay intact)
Expand Document Colors on the right and Select the DeviceN spot color that is located in the Gradient in Color Spaces then click ok
    Save the PDF
Please test it and let me know if you run into any issues with these workarounds.  I'm always looking for new problems to solve!

  • On-demand process in page processing - possible bug?

    Hi
Came across a possible bug today, certainly not a big one and unlike to affect many people but...
    1. Create an on-demand application process
    2. Create an on-demand page process that calls the application process
    3. Delete the application process.
Now at this point, the page process is still available for editing/deleting etc.
    4. Copy the application.
In the new version of the application, the page process shows as plain text in the application builder with no link to edit or delete it and when the page is run, it predictably fails at the processing point of the page process when it tries to find the application process (the id from wwv_flow_processing is shown in the error for the old application process).
The only way to get rid of the page process is to select 'Edit All' and then select and delete it - then everything is hunky dory again.
A minor issue I know, but maybe someone will have the same issue one day and stumble across this thread :)
    Cheers
    Ben

At the moment I cannot say if your link can help. Right now the call of the On demand Process looks like this:
