Virgin Mobile 4S 3G connectivity

I purchased a 4S for my daughter. She has had it for a month and finally told me the 3G data did not work.  The phone will show 3G and then change to a "o" in place of the icon. We have 5 signal bars showing and can get a 3G icon after entering ##update#. Using Safari to access the web results in an error message "could not activate cellular data network".  We can get data very slowly over the air with the small "o" showing.  The retailer shrugs their shoulders as we are past thirty days.  Virgin tech support has been contacted over 10 times and gives the same litany of ##update", turn off and back on, how many bars to you have, we will escalate and call you back, etc.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this?  Every Apple device I have ever purchased has been outstanding in its performance.  She is 14 and is very disappointed.  She claims she now has an iPod that can make a phone call.

The issue is with the carrier and likelly how they've provisioned the account.  That or crappy coverage in your area.
There is a slim chance that the issue is with the device.  Basic troubleshooting should rule out device issues.  Might also be worth a trip to the Apple store for evaluation and to prove it is a carrier issue.

Am a new user have an iPad mini and have virgin mobile mifi device for wifi, as this is the only Internet we have but it keeps going out as they are upgrading there system and I have to call at least 3 times a day to reconnect is there another way or other service for wifi that would work instead, I am not good at these devices thank you terrie

Windows 7 Home Basic does not support ad hoc or hosted network functionality (what Connectify and Virtual Router use). At a minimum you would need to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. Note the Applies to these editions of Windows 7 statement at the right in this article.

Again using a broadband wireless (WiFi) router is the best way to go presuming its in your budget.

  • BB Torch (unlocked). Cant setup email (times out when selected) via Virgin Mobile

    Hi Everyone
    I have a BB Torch 9800.
It was originally registered on the Rogers network, and everything worked fine.
I recently unlocked the phone, and switched to Virgin (ie new SIM card), including a data plan.
Im not able to setup an email account now.
When I go into Setup->Email Accounts->Internet Mail Account, it says "Check for updates'.
After a couple minutes it will timeout saying it can't connect.
In searching the fourms, I came across Host Routing Table settings. My HRT has  "* No entries *'. I have "Register Now", which tells me the Registration message was sent, however I havent had a response back.
Im also wondering if this phone is still "registered" with Rogers somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

My providor is Virgin Mobile in Ontario, Canada. A quick web search seemed to indivate they support this BB, but IM not positive. So it coul just be thats the issue.
From what I can see in the official Download Portal, Virgin Mobile Canada indeed does support the 9800...you can double check here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html
If a carrier lists an OS package for a specific BB model number, then the carrier supports that model, and everything should be fine.
But, that is step 5...what about the things included in steps 1 through 4? Those, of course, are all steps...requiring the success of a prior step before considering proceeding to the next step. So, for instance, if your voice services aren't yet working from Virgin, then you should not even be thinking yet about getting data to work.
    As to your questions:
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Do I request this through my BB?
Normally, I suggest the following steps, in order (again requiring success before proceeding), even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Unfortunately, we already know that your BB fails on step 1 here (register HRT)...which then precludes moving on to step 2. Which leads me back to the prior steps...did steps 1 through 4 all result positively?
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Would the providor do this for me automaticall?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no...when in doubt, the steps above are the way to force it.
    phantasie wrote:
How do I go about registering the BB onto their network - namel generating the proper Service Book delivery.
Would I request the providor to do this?
If it does not work with what is above, then the next logical step would be to contact the carrier for formal assistance...after all, it's their network with which you are attempting to get your BB to communicate.
    phantasie wrote:

Do I login into BB to do this (ie I found this link https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html which I tried logging into, but it says my device isnt registered on the network. It told me to setup my Host Routing Tabels to fix that, which I tried, but hasnt worked yet).
There is more than one way to accomplish many of these things. But, until your BB properly registers to the carrier network (HRT), attempting to go any further is pointless.
With all of that, we're back to steps 1 through 4 of what I previously sent...if those are not completed properly, then nothing else will be useful.
    Good luck!

  • Does The iphone 5s on Virgin Mobile support CDMA or GSM?

so I'm going on a carnival cruise later this year and theyre talking about how their internet connection requires cdma or gsm to be able to use data and i just want go make sure my phone has it.

Even if WHAT is in the Bahamas?
You will have to pay international roaming charges outside of your home country. If it's a US Virgin Mobile iPhone, it's CDMA. If it's from another country, it's GSM.

  • Is it possible to use a WVC80N on Virgin Mobiles Mifi2000 Hotspot?

Anyone know if it is possible to use a WVC80N on Virgin Mobiles Mifi2000 Hotspot?  I live out in the country and the only network connection we have is via the Mifi2000 3G portable Wifi Hotspot.
So far I have not had any luck setting this up, mainly due to the fact that I can have one device talk to another device locally across the hotspot, so all setup would have to be done on a dummy / closed network.  I tried this but wasn't successful in getting it to accept the Mifi2000 wireless access point.  It saw it and recongnized that it had WPA but after entering the key and complelying what i thought was the last step of the wireless config, it just fails to connect.
Of course, the mifi2000 also automatically passes out dynamic ips, so i have to use a DDNS service...but can't get that far.
    Anyone know?
    -Cox

How many computers do you have in the network?
What is the IP address and default gateway number on your computer?
In order to connect to the wireless network, WVC80N should get valid IP address from the access point.
If the access point has capacity to assign a private IP address to the computers and devices then I think you can use WVC80N.

  • Virgin mobile wont let me switch? HELP?!

Hi, I have been with virgin mobile for some time now, and really need to switch to a different phone company. I currently have an Iphone 5. Is there any way that I can unlock the phone and switch to T-mobile? I have read that Virgin Mobile is CDMA, but I have also read on this site that you can switch from CDMA to GSM. So basically, will someone please tell me how? I've been struggling to make this switch for hours now. I have the new sim card ready to go. If I do a full factory restore can I put in the new sim card and join T-mobile? Please help

Unfortunately, you can't do what you want to do and once you have bought a cdma phone, it is specific to the cdma network that you are with, so Virgin Media, Sprint or Verizon.
The GSM portion of the phone is only for inserting local sim cards whilst travelling so that you can connect to a gsm network and nothing more.
If you want to switch to T-Mobile, then you'll have to sell your current phone and purchase a new iPhone 5c or 5s for use with T-Mobile and as T-Mobile is a gsm carrier, then it will have to be a gsm phone and not a cdma phone.

  • Macbook Pro + Virgin Mobile USB Modem + WiFi Time Capsule = No Internet :(

Helping a friend with this. Can connect to Internet OK w Virgin Mobile USB modem. When he then connects to Time Capsule via WiFi, the Internet stops working. Turn off WiFi and it starts working again.
I looked at the routing tables and both interfaces are set as default. I disabled default on the WiFi interface but had no effect. Here is the output of the netstat -rn command. If anyone has any insight it would be appreciated.

What's the ordering of the interfaces in System Preferences : Network? My first guess would be it's favouring the wifi by default so you will need to change the ordering.

  • Samsung N150 Verizon mini + adding Virgin mobile broadband 3g USB

I got the Verizon mini notebook 2 days ago and am having a heck of a time connecting my Virgin mobile broadband 3g USB adapter. I disabled the laptop network card and I followed Virgin's directions and still no internet access. I cannot get a hold of Virgins customer service. Is this thing even possible? Thanks, Mark

Go to Verizon or T-Mobile sites and check their coverage maps
for 4G.  If it is not available, you have what you have.

  • Virgin Mobile (France) no Wifi no web

No Wi fi, no surfing on my phone since I've changed from Orange to Virgin Mobile. Why!Why??????

What carrier you use has no affect on the iPhone's ability to connect to WiFi. You can put the the phone into Airplane mode & turn WiFi back on. You can remove the sim card & still use WiFi. Is WiFi turned on in settings? Have you tried Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings?

  • Virgin Mobile unlocks iPhones for free?

I currently have an HTC phone on Virgin Mobile, which has given me pretty good service for the monthly rate. I want to upgrade to the iPhone 5s and continue to use Virgin Mobile since it has given me such good service. However, I will be moving out of state next year and am worried that Virgin Mobile will not provide good service there, so just in case I want to be able to switch my iPhone to a different carrier. Virgin Mobile says they will unlock iPhones purchased from them for free (https://community.virginmobile.com.au/t5/Phones-knowledge-base/How-do-I-unlock-m y-Apple-iPhone/ta-p/80), but after doing some research, apparently it is really hard to switch carriers on a Virgin Mobile unlocked iPhone since they use CDMA. Sorry, I am not a techie, so am really unfamiliar to all of this. Will someone explain what that means, and if I would be able to potentially switch carriers?
    Thanks!

Several confusing pieces of information here.
First, the link to Virgin Mobile in the first post is for Virgin Mobile Australia. They will unlock their phones if you ask them.
Virgin Mobile USA is a different company (in a different country) and does NOT unlock phones.
Second, the iPhone sold on Virgin Mobile USA does have a SIMM card slot, even though VM network is CDMA. These iPhones are hybrids and have radio circuitry that supports both CDMA (Verizon, Sprint, VM USA), as well as GSM (T-Mobile, AT&T in US, as well as the rest of the world). When activated on Virgin Mobile, phone uses CDMA and the SIMM card is inactive (as well as the circuitry supporting it). However, when you put an active SIMM card (for example, T-Mobile's), the phone should be able connect to a GSM network. The problem is, this doesn't work because the SIMM slot is locked and doesn't allow SIMM cards from other carriers.
Virgin Mobile iPhones are somewhat different from other American carriers, and it appears that there is no unlocking solution for these. I have searched the web thoroughly and haven't been able to find anyone who would be able to unlock an iPhone sold by Virgin Mobile USA, so that it can be used with a SIMM card of another mobile carrier (domestic or foreign). For iPhones on Verizon, unlocking isn't even necessary; they are CDMA phones, which means that the CDMA circuitry can only be activated on Verizon (therefore no Sprint or Virgin Mobile), but the SIMM slot is unlocked and can be used with any global carrier. With AT&T and T-Mobile, unlocking is required, since the two are GSM operators which use SIMM cards, so the phone is locked to the carrier. Unlocking can be done, in some cases (if you've been a customer long enough) even by the carrier itself, and there are third-party unlocking services out there. Unfortunately, Virgin is the only one where this, for some reason, cannot be done.

  • Where do small CDMA carriers get there iPhones? Like (nTelos, Golden State Carrier, Virgin Mobile)

I was wondering what the activation process of my Golden State Cellular iphone 5 would be because I don't have the sim and i want to use it as an iPod. Oh and do CDMA Iphone 5z require a sim to activate? or are they just for LTE?

I cannot say for sure if the g/b vs n is the cause, but if all other devices like the AE and that one device does not, you go with the odds.  Others will have to chime-in on that.
And I recommend NetGear (not necessarily *above* LinkSys) because my 3-year-old NetGear router has been serving my MBP fine for 3 months ... no glitches.
