Virtual Severs Log Files
Hello,
We are using SUN One Web Server 6.0 SP4. We have setup a web instance with a secure and non-secure virtual server.
We want each of them to have their own log files. We have this configured and the log files show up for each (access, access-secure, errors and errors-secure). We also went in the 2 locations and shut off LogVsld and vsid. In the documentation it says to turn these ON if you want to use 1 log file for multiple virtual servers.
All entries however are only going into the access and errors files. Nothing is being logged in the *-secure log files.
Anyone else doing this?

Thanks Have the exact same problem. Seperate logs worked fine - until I added a secure certificate. Have not been able to seperate logs since.
Reported here for 6.0 SP2, but never saw a solution.

Here is parameter file

log.keepOld=10
that I have apply on virtual machine VMX. After I run the compliance checker again and it still showing fail.
I also have try restart the virtual machine machine few time but the log file keep increase.
For my understanding if we apply this parameter setting once the virtual machine log file over 1,000kb or 10 log file the new log file will replace the old one, correct me if Ii wrong.
Here is my question
1. Did the parameter file have restrict on any version of VMware?
2. If the log file less than 1,000kb and it already have 10 log file, so the new log file will still replace the old log file?

The problem have been solved in VMware vsphere version 5 with compliance checker for vsphere 5.0.
But under VMware vsphere version 4 I have found out the parameter is ok and workable but the results is still showing fail, will this is software bug?

Guys, please help. I am scratching my head now. I've created a virtual server. A web application is running on it. I've coded some System.out.println on few servlets, hoping to see the printed message on the server.log. However, I can't seems to find all these printed message on the server.log. Why? Please help me!

Change block size for several log-files simultaneously?
Hi,
I'm using SignalExpress to record and analyze data.
Sometimes I want to analyze the recorded data both for a short period of time and for longer time.
(Imagine creating an average of every second first and then an average of every 10 seconds)
Then I need to change all the log-files, and also the specific parts of the log-file. See attachment.
I have sometimes up to 1000 log-files containing signals from 4 different modules, that makes 4000 adjustments to change from block size 10000 to block size 1000.
Is there any way to adjust all the log-files block size at once?

How to tail log files from particular string
Hello,
We would like to tail several log files "live" in powershell for particular string. We have tried to use "get-content" command but without luck because everytime as a result we received only results from one file. I assume that it was
caused by "-wait" parameter. If there is any other way to tail multiple files ?
Our sample script below

MacBecause we want to capture particular string from that files. Application writes some string time to time and when the string appears we want to catch it and send an eventy to application log, after it our Nagios system will raise alarm.

In this code, $file1 and 2 are the files being waited for.
As I understood you, you care only for the special string, which is in the variable $special.
All other variables, will be discarded.
Also, whenever a string equals to $exit is written to the file, the start job corresponding to that file will be terminated, automatically! (simple, right?)
In the example above, I use only 2 files (being watched) but you can extend it, easily, to any number (as long as you understand the code).
If you are following my instructions, at this point you have PowerShell ISE running, with 2 background jobs,
waiting for data being inputed to $file1 and 2.
Now, it's time to send data to $file1 and 2.
Start PowerShell Console to send data to those files.
From its command line, execute these commands:
$file1 = 'C:\Temp\TFile1.txt'
$file2='C:\Temp\TFile2.txt'
$exit='exit'
Notice that $file1 and 2 are exactly the same as those defined in P
OWERSHELL ISE, and that I've defined the string that will terminate the background jobs.
Command these commands in PowerShell Console:

'less' >> $file1
'more' >> $file2
'less' >> $file2
These commands will provoke no consequences, because these strings will be discarded (they do not contain the special string).
Now, command these commands in PowerShell Console:

'windowswodniw' >> $file2
'1 windowswodniw 2' >> $file2
'more windowswodniw less' >> $file2
All these will be caugth by the (my) code, because they contain the special

The test I'm explaining, now is DONE, TERMINATED, FINISHED, COMPLETED, ...
Time to get back to PowerShell ISE.
You'll notice that it printed out this (right at the beginning):

P.S.: I'm using PowerShell, but I'm pretty sure you can use older PowerShell ( version 3 ). Anything less, is not PowerShell anymore. We can call it RubbiShell. -
Dev_serverX log files on portal
Can someone explain to me the GC entries in the dev_serverX log files located under /usr/sap/<SID>/JC02/work? I understand that everytime there is a garbage collection, it will log it here, but I was hoping for some more insight into exactly what the entry meant. Below is an example from my dev_server0 log file:

I'm having problems backing up a Hyper-V virtualized Exchange 2007 server with DPM 2012. The guest has one VHD for the OS, and two pass-through volumes, one for logs and one for the databases. I have three protection groups:
System State - protects only the system state of the mail server, runs at 4AM every morning
Exchange Databases - protects the Exchange stores, 15 minute syncs with an express full at 6:30PM every day
VM - Protecting the server hosting the Exchange VM. Does an child partition snapshot backup of the Exchange server guest with an express full at 9:30PM every day
The problem I'm experiencing is that every time the VM express full completes I start receiving errors on the Exchange Database synchronizations stating that a log file discontinuity was detected. I did some poking around in the logs on the Exchange server
and sure enough, it looks like the child partition snapshot backup is causing Exchange to truncate the log files even though the logs and databases are on pass-through disks and aren't covered by the child partition snapshot.
What is the correct way to back up an entire virtualized Exchange server, system state, databases, OS drive and all?I just created a new protection group. I added "Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\MailServer", short-term protection using disk, and automatically create the replica over the network immediately. This new protection group contains only the child partition
snapshot backup. No Exchange backups of any kind.
The replica creation begins. Soon after, the following events show up in the Application log:

The events continue on, basically snapshotting all of Exchange. From the DPM side, the total amount of data transferred tells me that even though Exhange is trunctating its logs, nothing is actually being sent to the DPM server. So this snapshot operation
seems to be superfluous. ~30 minutes later, when my regularly scheduled Exchange job runs, it fails because of a log file discontinuity.
So, in this case at least, a Hyper-V snapshot backup is definitely causing Exchange to truncate the log files. What can I look at to figure out why this is happening? -
How to set server log file severity
Will some one suggest how to set the severity for messages logged by server to server log file. The admin console consists of setting "Stdout Severity Threshold" which is applicable only to standard out. I need to restrict info messages to be logged in server log file.
Which release of WebLogic Server are you using? In WebLogic 9.0 there is an attribute on the LogMBean called LogFileSeverity which could be configured to "Warning" so it will not allow Debug and Info level messages to be written to the server log file. In the 8.1 release you would need to do this programatically using a startup class, by getting a reference to the server Logger by invoking weblogic/logging/LoggingHelper.getServerLogger() and setting the appropriate weblogic/logging/WLLevel on the weblogic/logging/FilestreamHandler that writes to the server log file.

Database Engine won't start - master DB log file issue
I had a server patched and reboot yesterday and now the SQL services won't start because it's saying it can't find the master log file. I checked the path and the log file is present. Any suggestions.

It might have been intended, but it was added incorrectly. -g512 is a legal switch. Then again, since you have 64-bit SQL Server, it is not likely that you will needed.
(The -g switch increases the area known as memtoleave, which is the virtual address space (VAS) not used for the buffer cache. On 32-bit SQL Server you may need to increase this area from the default of 256 MB. On 64-bit SQL Server the full physical memory
is available for VAS; on 32-bit it's only 2GB.)

I just updated an existing slide show that was created several months back. Since loading my new set of files to our web server, we keep getting the following error in our server log files when someone loads our page in IE8 and IE9:

Thanks!The errors aren't showing up on the client side, only in the server access logs. Every time the page is loaded with IE8 or IE9 and the Muse.Utils.addSelectorFn with the #slideshowu70 line is hit, it generates four errors in the server access logs.
Our admin guy pulled the errors from where it was clicked on from the Adobe forum. He said it also appeared that you tested it with www added to the url (if this was when you were testing it)...

The reason we find it strange is because it did not result in errors with the previous version of the slideshow. The only thing that changed this time around is that I removed some slides and added additional ones, but I noticed that there is a lot of difference in the code and even the scripts that are used. And I did copy over all of the scripts, css files, etc., so it's using all of the new source files.
I was hoping it was something that you guys had noticed if you review the access logs when you're testing. While it works perfectly on the client side, the IT guys do go through our access logs, so it would be nice to eliminate the errors.

Help with Script created to check log files.

I have a program we use in our organization on multiple workstations that connect to a MS SQL 2005 database on a Virtual Microsoft 2008 r2 Server. The program is quite old and programmed around the days when serial connections were the most efficient means
of connection to a device. If for any reason the network, virtual server or the SAN which the virtual server runs off have roughly 25% utilization or higher on its resources the program on the workstations timeout from the SQL database and drop the program
from the database completely rendering it useless. The program does not have the smarts to resync itself to the SQL database and it just sits there with "connection failed" until human interaction. A simple restart of the program reconnects itself
to the SQL database without any issues. This is fine when staff are onsite but the program runs on systems out of hours when the site is unmanned.
The utilization of the server environment is more than sufficient if not it has double the recommended resources needed for the program. I am in regular contact with the support for the program and it is a known issue for them which i believe they do not
have any desire to fix in the near future.
I wish to create a simple script that checks the log files on each workstation or server the program runs on and emails me if a specific word comes up in that log file. The word will only show when a connection failure has occurred.
After the email is sent i wish for the script to close the program and reopen it to resync the connection.
I will schedule the script to run ever 15 minutes.
I have posted this up in a previous post about a month ago but i went on holidays over xmas and the post died from my lack or response.
Below is what i have so far as my script. I have only completed the monitoring of the log file and the email portion of it. I had some help from a guy on this forum to get the script to where it is now. I know basic to intermediate scripting so sorry for my

I would like to get the email side of this script working first and then move on to getting the restart of the program running after.

be able to help.
What i am doing is searching the log file. Finding the specific words then outputting them to an email. I havent used bmail before so thats probably my problem but then im using bmail to send me the results.
Then im clearing the log file so the next day it is empty so that when i search it every 15 minutes its clean and only when an error occurs it will email me.
Could you help me send the output via email using bmail or blat?

System Update 5.01.0005 hangs every attempt on my X121e (log files inline)
Hi, I installed TVSU on my x121e laptop and it hangs on 95% on every attempt, like 5th time now. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and I am using the latest version, I think, which is 5.01.0005.
Note that the system totally freezes on me. Nothing responds and Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not do anything. Only way is to shut down using the power button.

Windows 8 Pro 64-bit (v6.2 build 9200)
Any ideas on what I can do to get it running? I don't know how to attach log files so I pasted them in full.

WebLogic 10.3.2.0 hanging at startup after "The server log file is opened."
Hi,
A WebLogic 10.3.2.0 server is hanging at startup. There are no error messages. The last command in the startup window is:
"The server log file <log file dest> is opened. All server side log events will be written to this file."
I think the next line should be:
"Security initializing using security realm realm."
Any ideas on what could be the issue? For instance what resources should be accessed at that point of time? There is sufficient space left on the (virtual machine) disk. The VM configured with 8GB memory. Could it be performance related still?

I ran the following script against our SharePoint 2013 farm:

I tried finding something on the internet on this but either my Google Mojo is gone or there is no one else posting about this.
Since we do not want to change the logging behavior of SharePoint (unless it is really necessary), I'd like to know if there is something wrong with my code? Is there some parameter I can use to suspend logging for this script? There must be something I'm

You shouldn't need to call a 'dispose' method on any object in .Net, the garbage collector should automatically identify a no-longer required object and remove it. Unfortunately, and there might
be a reason for it, that isn't true for SPWeb or SPSite objects.
Evidently the Enable-SPFeature comandlet contains a SPSite or SPWeb object and fails to dispose of it.
You could try using Start-SPAssignment: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607664%28v=office.15%29.aspx which some have found to be useful to deal with this. Another option would be to create a process that generates a new thread for each row in
the csv which will result in the objects being destroyed as that process ends. -

There are created unix/linux log file monitoring objects. In SCOM console I can view alerts related to unix/linux log file monitoring. Email notification is: Warning or Critical for severity, and, Medium or High for priority. The alerts for unix/linux log
file are severity warning and priority medium.
In my inbox there are emails for alerts (Warning or Critical for severity, and, Medium or High for priority) except for unix/linux monitoring.
