Vista Pink Screen Issue

My daughter uses a Z61M 9450 widescreen running Vista Business.  She was trying to login to a relatives wireless network and had to reboot after releasing IP manually or so she said!  When it rebooted everything looked fine and she logged in with user password on Vista entry screen. It processes the password and then the screen goes pink.  I tried safe mode and it brings a blank (black) safe mode screen with no desktop so it appears desktop interface is wacked.  HDD is running and all appears normal so this is does not appear to a major problem. I Ran diagnostics (everything good), hooked it up to external monitor and external is pink so it does not appear to be hardware related.  I am typing this from inside rescue recovery using the opera browser and about to embark on drivers which I assume got corrupted when she rebooted??  Anyway, besides the fact I probably should blow away Vista, any ideas??  Hoping driver updates will cure the problem...

Appreciate your comments.  I tried booting to the DVD and was able to run startup recovery but found no issue.  System thinks it is starting up properly.  It isn't at all hot because it happens even if the machine has been off and has just booted plus it is very cool to the touch compared to other thinkpads I run.  The really strange issue is being able to pop up Fn options over the top of the pink screen?  I can also run Opera under Thinkvantage rescue recovery and browse the internet so it appears the video card works great.  I wonder if the driver that loads when Vista starts is the issue?  I tried safe mode boot to VGA only and still get blank screen.  I can get to a C: prompt by booting to the Vista Dvd.
Have not been able to apply updates in the rescue recovery or update drivers.

  • Belle update,now pink screen

I know of the N8 pink screen problem and it only  mildly affected my N8 under pr1.1,the Anna update, but after updating to the officially released Belle  609 it now suffers quite badly from the pink screen (greys are pink).
Although it does not really bother me too much I think it shows that the problem to be more software than hardware, which is why screen change repairs often don't  work.
Has anybody else noticed this problem?
Also battery life is poorer and phone runs hotter, suggesting maybe a slight software overclock .
All that aside I still love my N8 and Belle.

Did you use a higher screen brightness setting with Anna than now with Belle?
If you did, the pink screen issue might be more noticeable.
What screen brightness setting are you using now?

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • B&W G3 - Pink Screen After Bootup?

My wife uses a B&W G3, OS 9.2.2. Motherboard Rev. B. Recently, the computer either:
-- boots normally, but after a short interval, perhaps as long as 10 minutes, the monitor goes pink. Solid pink like a sheet of construction paper. Monitor is an LCD screen.
-- tries to boot but never does, going directly to the pink screen.
Zapping the PRAM (multiple tries) did not rectify the problem. Replacing the PRAM battery did not rectify the problem.
Resources found on the web seem to indicate that this is a battery issue, but I could not readily find any description of a similar problem.
    Hints appreciated ...
iMac Dual Core   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   9.2.2 and 10.3.9 Macs

There has been a history, in multiple brands of displays, of a problem with resistors in the Red, Green, or Blue input signals getting hotter than anticipated, squirming around, and making intermittent contact.
In the "good old days" these large-ish resistors were axial-lead components that were inserted through plated holes in the board and wave-soldered from below. They never came loose or had problems. More recently, in the move to all surface-mount components, they are now bar-shaped with contacts near the end. Too much heat and their solder joints can fracture.
Conventional wisdom for CRT displays was that to get to the resistors, you had to expose your self to potentially lethal voltages (upwards of 40,000 Volts) that could linger for months after the power was off. The voltages inside a flat panel display can reach few hundred volts, but there is no tube to act as a charge-storage device.

  • Pink Screen with 17" ADC and DVI converter

This issue could be with the Apple ADC to DVI convertor box or cable, but I can't confirm if it is that or my monitor. I am using a 17" clear ACD with a mac mini, and I started to get intermittant bright pink screens, which has progressed into pink all the time, and a horizontally squashed screen that shows the desktop twice (one on top of the other, both squashed).
I am pretty sure that the cable coming out of the convertor box is the culprit, since I was able to get it working normally by jiggling the cable, and it started acting up when I was plugging and unplugging some USB devices. Now it won't work properly at all, and I do not have an old computer to plug the monitor in directly to check with. I did plug the monitor and convertor into a G5 PowerMac, and had the same result. When I plugged in a newer 20" Apple aluminum display into the Mini, it worked fine.
The trouble is that all of the cables on the monitor and convertors are built in and not easily replaced.
    Any suggestions?

I bought a new ADC/DVI converter ($99) and that fixed it. I am almost positive it was only the cable.
My question is: why can't Apple PLEASE make these convertor boxes AND their monitors with removable/replaceable cables?
I ended up spending 10 times what I should have to fix the issue. it should have never broken in the first place, since it rarely even ever got touched, and had never been disconnected.
Just for grins, after I bought the new converter, I tried to open the old one to see if I could remove the cable. I could not even get the box open without destroying it.
My 20" Cinema Display has a dead bug inside it, and it is also impossible to open up without destroying it, just to clean it.
I just have to express my displeasure at Apple making their products non-servicable. What a waste.

  • 2014 Mac Mini shows pink screen when waking

I have a 2014 3Ghz i7 mac mini which I have attempted to connect two different Asus monitors via two different HDMI cables in multiple configurations. Regardless of the connection combination when the mac awakes from sleep or from the screensaver (to show the login screen) the screen shows up as bright pink and I can barely make out the password box.
Turning off the monitor and turning it back on corrects the problem as does waiting about 10 seconds for the monitor to go out of sync and return. After this time the issue goes away until the computer sleeps or I enter the sleep saver again and have to re-login.
    Is anyone else encountering this?
PRAM and SMC have been reset already.

I don’t know if this solves the pink screen problem, whatever it is. I’m not a techie so this is all I can offer.
I got my Mini end of December and the pink screen problem just started now. I had no pink screen until I went to change the Sleep / Wake settings. Then I started getting the pink screen with desktop barely showing through. So think when / if you changed your settings from the default. Maybe your problem started after that.
Returning settings to default doesn't fix it. I also tried to check / uncheck different sleep / wake settings, but didn't work either.
I have the latest Mac Mini 3 GHz
Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM Yosemite 10.10.2.
External ASUS PA248 monitor via HDMI.
I know everyone has different set-ups with slight variations in the problem, but maybe this will help some people. It seem to have worked to solve the pink from appearing, but I don’t think it has solved he actual problem. At least if I have to go to my computer every half hour, I don’t have to wear out my monitor button by having to turn it on all the time just to get rid of the pink screen.
I know people want their Mini to sleep but for these instructions your Mini will have to remain awake all the time.
This is my monitor set up.
Screen saver set to go on in 10 minutes.
Monitor shuts off in 15 minutes.
The Mini stays on all the time, no sleep or wake cycles.
    1. Go to ENERGY SAVINGS
    2. The only thing I have checked is, “Prevent the computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off. Leave the rest unchecked".
    3.  Then go to SCHEDULE Uncheck these,
START UP OR WAKE and SLEEP settings.
    Hit OK
    Exit ENERGY SAVINGS.
Let your monitor turn off, come back later. Sit down and re-try to to turn on your desktop. DON'T click away on your mouse or move it back and forth furiously like you want your desktop to load RIGHT NOW. Well I did that and the system didn't like that and the pink was back. It seems the system needs a few seconds to load up the desktop. Click the mouse button once, or move the mouse a a TINY bit. Wait a bit and the desktop should appear WITH NO PINK SCREEN, hopefully.
    Hope this helps.

a little difficult to figure out just what all your issues are but I'd suggest making an image of your system and saving to an external drive, then doing a restore back to out-of-box state and see if that fixes things.  If not, post back.

  • Air 3.3 beta PC audio distortion / Air 3.1 / 3.2 Mac black screen issue

    Hi there,
I've recently released a large game coded in Flash Builder with Air (www.lonesurvivor.co.uk), and I used Air 3's captive runtime feature to bundle it for Mac and PC.
The initial build used Air 3.2 and for a large proportion of OSX users, there were no visuals at all, just sound and the game obviously working underneath.  This caused a very large support issue, and took several weeks to deal with, as well as having to maintain a seperate Projector version for those for whom the Air version wouldn't work.  I wish I had known that the game would fail on some Macs, but unfortunately the issue showed up on none of the ones tested.
I'm about to launch the updated build of the game which uses Air 3.3 beta 1, as it seems to fix the black screen issue for all those who experienced it.  I was very happy that Adobe have managed to iron this out, even if there was no response to the bug I entered into bugbase.
The problem is, on a final test on XP SP2, the 3.3 beta version produces what appears to be filtered graphics... which is how the Mac version has always appeared, but the PC version of the game seemed to use what looked like nearest-neighbour sampling in Flash's fulllscreen upscaling, which looked good for the zoomed pixel art in this game.
This is a small cosmetic issue, but there is another one whhich is far more severe - the audio has become extremely distorted, and is now unlistenable.
So with 3.2 giving me no visual on Macs and 3.3 giving me unlistenable audio on PCs, I will now have to maintain two versions again.  I really would like to keep one project I can quickly make changes to, but the seperate problems in different platforms means I lose out on the great cross-platform functionality of Air.  I'm hoping this is a known issue, but I couldn't find it on google / bugbase / these forums.
Could these two issues be related - is hardware acceleration not working or something?  Somehow I think it is, because the XP test machine is quite old, and tended to fall over with the game running in software mode in a Flash projector.
I tried swapping out the Air 3.3 runtime for the previous 3.2 I shipped with, and editing the XML desciption to make sure it was set to use that and, sure enough, the game worked as it did before.  So there is definitely something up with the beta.  I'm just glad I caught this problem before I shipped as going to save me thousands of emails of support!
So I guess my question is - is this a known issue?  And if so, do you have any workarounds / or are Adobe working on a fix?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for the prompt response - I guess I should have tried the forums instead of the bugbase last time...  It really was a support nightmare!  Not least because I had to deal with the problem of saved games being wiped by over-zealous browsers on the backup Projector version I was supplying Mac customers with.
Fortunately the Mac Air 3.3 runtime works great.
Out of interest - there is still the difference in GPU scaling used between Mac and Windows though, which there always has been since it was introduced (is this a known issue btw?)
Which leads me to the 3.3 beta 2 - I tried it out last night, and while it corrected the blurry graphics (the scaling appeared nearest neighour again on XP), the audio suffered the same distortion.
In addition, I had several other XP / Vista / Win 7 users test out the build, and the user with XP SP3 also suffered the issue.
So I'm planning to ship the PC version with 3.1 as it worked well for the first release, and use 3.3 beta 1 for the Mac version.  Unfortunately I've run out of time and need to get it out there!
I'd definitely be interested in getting into the pre-release program.  I'll write you an email and send the builds of the game too.
    Cheers,
    Jasper

  • Screen Issues since upgrading

Since upgrading to `lion,  my 2007 Macpro often runs very hot and also I have been experiencing some screen issues (hangs, on reboot get a pink and grey check effect, wont boot)
Support center advised on some resets and a re-install of Lion.  However although this has 'reduced' the effect it still occurs
    Any advise or similar experiences

If it runs better in your Guest account, then something in your admin account is getting in the way.
    Probably not a systemwide issue.
The first place I'd look is in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Don’t just “hide” them by checkmark.
Running at max RAM shouldn't be a problem in Mavericks, as it handles memory more efficiently than previous systems, also you have virtual memory and you have a good amount of free disk space for it.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/advanced-technologies/
That said more RAM is always better but I can understand why you wouldn't want to spend the money on the Mini at this point.

  • My iPhone 5 camera keeps freezing if and when I take a photo I get either a pink screen or pink lines or lens freezes any ideas please

Has anyone else had an issue with their iPhone 5. Camera?
The problem is intermittent and presents as either a total freeze or partial or full pink screen
Is this a known fault and should I take the phone to an apple store for a replacement as it is only 4 months old

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that didn't help, Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Screen Issue with HP G7000 laptop

    Hi there,
I bought a second hand HP G7000 laptop preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium x86 a few days ago, the problem with it was that the screen wouldn't light up even when plugged the laptop was plugged in using the AC adapter which I also had to buy seperately as the original one was misplaced and only cost me £10 for a compatible one off the Internet, the screen wasn't shattered and showed no signs of wear and tear, I took it to my local PC repair shop for £40 in which the contacts behind the screen needed connecting back up and with a little soldering for some other parts of the repair, however when I tookit  back to my place the screen lit up fine in which I decided to perform a factory restore to make it feel like it was brand new and that it belonged to me. After restoring the laptop successfully, I noticed that a lot of stuff was a little out-of-date and decided to update it to make it compliant with the latest security fixes as well as the latest bug fixes i.e. to upgrade to SP2 etc, however upon updating and turning on the laptop every so often the display kept going funny i.e. black and white and wouldn't display anything clearly in which I had to keep forcing the laptop to shut down with using the power button in which I don't like doing as this will corrupt the hard drive eventually, however upon researching this problem on the Internet I stumbled across this forum thread http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f108/hp-g7000-screen-issue-529809.html using Google describing a very similar problem to me, the problem not only seems to be with tilting the angle of the screen but also the surface in which the unit is placed down on, I've tried various surfaces including my USB fan cooler, glass and wood and all produce various results from time to time. So I guess the answer is to place the unit down on a flat surface that isn't shiny and screen not tilting when using the laptop? I thought the purpose of a laptop was to make computing mobile regardless of what surface you place the unit  down on and what angle you have the screen at. Your feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    RocknRollTim
P.S. I also suspect that the problem is related to interference and lighting conditions as well as heating conditions and the battery as the battery sometimes retains its charge whereas sometimes it doesn't and have to use the AC adapter when this happens, don't know whether flashing the BIOS has helped the battery to retain its charge though.
    This question was solved.

    Hello @RocknRollTim,
I understand that your notebook computer is experiencing an issue with the display screen as well as keeping a charge with the battery, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose the integrity of your computer's battery, I recommend following this document on Calibrating the Notebook Battery (Windows Vista). This should help re-synchronize the battery with your notebook.
Because the display intermittently stays on the screen when moved a certain angle, I believe the display panel cables are defective. According to the Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer, this part can be replaced with a camera (462455-001) or without (454932-001), and can be found from the multiple vendors below:

I have the weirdest issue and hope someone can shed some light on my issue has I'm baffled as to what the true issue is.A replacement motherboard was purchased foe a PC that had a motherboard issue. This is a new motherboard and not a refurbished one. Unfortunately, I keep getting a pink screen and/or a flashing colors when I use the on-board video controllers - whether VGA or HDMI. The symptoms of flashing colors and/or solid pink screen is definitely not due to the monitor has it has been tested on several different monitors and the main monitor being use to test it is the one I'm currently using and I have no issues with. In addition to the screen issues, I've lost USB controls prior to the PC lockup and screen color show. I deleted the standard VGA drivers and then had them re-installed and from their updated it and it seemed to go...
