VMM 2012 R2 - Default MAC Address Pools

We have two VMM servers at different sites but on the same network subnet.
Having deployed virtual machines from both VMM servers we have experienced a number of instances where the same MAC address has been allocated to more than one virtual machine (same MAC allocated by each VMM Server).
Consequently, I would like to split the current Default MAC Address Pool range and allocate half to each VMM server.
The documentation suggests that the current "Default MAX Address Pool(s)" should be deleted before the new custom pools are created.
We have already deployed a large number of virtual machines from each VMM server.
Does the deletion of the "Default MAC Address Pool(s)" have any impact on the existing virtual machines with MAC addresses assigned from the default pools?
Will the virtual machines retain there existing MAC addresses or will they be re-allocated new MACs?

Does the deletion of the "Default MAC Address Pool(s)" have any impact on the existing virtual
machines with MAC addresses assigned from the default pools?
Kind of, you cant delete the "Default MAC Address Pool" while VM's have allocated MAC's.
You can revoke MAC's using the "Revoke-SCMACAddress" cmdlet
Will the virtual machines retain there existing MAC addresses or will they be re-allocated new
MACs?
I would probably choose to first give the VMs MAC addresses from the new pool, then delete
the default pool.
You will need to grant your VMs with new MAC addresses using the Grant-SCMACAddress
cmdlet.

  • SCCM 2012 Losing Wired Mac Address of Laptops

When attempting to re-image a laptop I have found that SCCM replaced
the wired MAC address in properties with the wireless MAC. This is only an issue when I go to image as it will not PXE, I get a no boot file received message.
I have been deleting the laptops from SCCM completely and then re-importing them using the wired MAC.
After re-adding the laptop with the wired MAC it is still holding a record of the last PXE Deployment (once deleted the
    system will PXE boot fine).
Is there a way to have SCCM actively hold both MAC addresses?

I'm in the same boat as JLCARON401. Laptop devices in SCCM seem to forget the MAC address of the wired interface.
Tim, they show up in the Hardware History section of Resource Explorer, but not in the current view. You can see the device listed, but the MAC field is empty.
I just put this together to grab data from the database directly to confirm that the data exists.
    SELECT DISTINCT
    MACAddress00
    FROM
    [CM_PEN].[dbo].[Netcard_HIST] netcard
    INNER JOIN
    [CM_PEN].[dbo].[Computer_System_DATA] computer
    ON
    netcard.MachineID = computer.MachineID
    WHERE
    computer.Name00 like 'SMS-LIB-MD%'
    AND
    netcard.MACAddress00 IS NOT NULL
    AND
    netcard.AdapterType00 like '%802.3%'
Not sure where to go with this next. I'm looking into it because we're having problems with laptops that charge in a cart are missing updates. I've rigged up a cart with power and a switch so each laptop can be powered up (WOL) during the night to have all
    the outstanding deployments installed.

  • LWAPP's losing names and showing up as default MAC address's

I have been having random LWAPP's that have been configured previously showing up as the original names as if they were just installed (APxxx:xxxx:xxxx). I know this becasue the location field is the location of where they are, and AP group name is also set to the location they are. What would cause this?
    WLC = 7.0.98.0
    AP = 1142n 12.4(23c)JA
This problem is here and there...it is happening to about 5 percent of my overall AP's.

  • Restoring MAC address to the default

If I do a ifconfig [device] hw ether [mac address], how can I later revert the settings back to the default MAC address without knowing it?

My, er, "trick" is to unload and reload the modules for the NIC
Edit: You could also use macchanger to force the NIC to use a specific MAC. So, if you want to go back the original one, then force it to it.

  • MAC Address : K7N2-L : Default? Help!

I accidentally wiped out the default mac address.
anyone know of a way to recover the default one? or if i can obtain a new one from MSI?
reply to my email or this post thanks

I do not understand how you lost the address.......but the mac address for the onboard nic is printed on a white sticker and the sticker is placed on the bottom side of the ACR slot......The only way to see it is to take the board out of the  case, or to use a mirror to see it.

  • Airport MAC address not set at factory?

I just received my new MacBook Pro and was getting ready to set my router so that DHCP requests from the new Macbook Pro would receive the same IP address on my home LAN.
The IP address for the Airport in my new machine is: 00:11:22:33:44:55 as determined by the following terminal command.
    macbookpro:~ pderby$ ifconfig en1 | grep ether
    ether 00:11:22:33:44:55
I tried to "spoof" the address with this command:
    sudo ifconfig en1 lladdr 00:19:e3:d8:f5:07
which does not throw an error, but does not work.
Anyone else get a MacBook Pro where the MAC address for the airport was not set?
Any ideas on what to do?
I suppose I can just tell my router the MAC address is 00:11:22:33:44:55

Of course the MAC address and the IP address are two different things. I'm not sure why, Kappy, you thought I had this confusion. And I beg to differ, but MAC addresses are by interface, not by machine. So the ethernet port has a different MAC address than the Airport. They HAVE to have different MAC addresses or using two IP connections at the same time will not work when both ports are active at the same time and have the same MAC address. Using both ports at the same time with two independent IP addresses is completely supported by BSD Unix as well as OS X.
On my new machine the Ethernet Port EN0, has the MAC address 00:23:32:c8:27:4a
On my new machine the Airport Port, EN1, has the MAC address 00:11:22:33:44:55
I've had a lot of Macs, and this is the first time I've had an airport with this "default" MAC address.
My question is 1) does anyone else have a MAC address of 00:11:22:33:44:55 on their new MacBook Pro for the Airport hardware? If so, is this correct? Usually the MAC address has a manufacturer's Id embedded followed by a unique ID. 2) If someone is in the same situation have you talked to Apple about this? What did they have to say?
I can spoof the MAC address temporarily via the terminal, but it will reset to the hardware address on reboot.

  • RRAS 2012 With DHCP Works, Cannot Get Static Address Pool To Connect Completely

    Hello Forums Users:
I have set up RRAS/DA 2012 successfully incorporating my AD DHCP server.   Every connection works and I see all networks that I have VPN tunnels set up with, which is totally cool.    However, I want to assign remote VPN users IP's from a
static address pool - and while the setup completes without issue and the client connects, I can see absolutely nothing.    No good pings, no connect to Lync client, Outlook, etc. etc.
I am OBVIOUSLY missing something but have no idea what that is.   Do I need to add something (and I really have no idea what that "something" is) to RRAS config so the static address pool (192.168.40.0 in this case) has the same access as
    the AD DHCP pool does?
Thanks again for taking the time to check this out and comment.

    Bill:
Thanks for the reply....  yes, the idea is to free up a pool of IP's large enough to accomodate all 170 staff.   Our current 192.168.2.x DHCP hands out 150, but I need to plan for DR/BCP when other locations (about 110 users) remote in when their
    location goes dark.
I already have VPN tunnels between the main locations and a VPN user can see ALL of them when it gets an IP from DHCP.   Are you saying that I have to add routes to all the routers/firewalls to accomplish this?
Or would I use IPv4 Static Routes?   A network I'd like access to is 192.168.14.0 /24.   Would the route look like any of these?   Sorry it's not clear what I would use as the gateway (192.168.2.1 is the RRAS server network gateway, 192.168.2.6
    is RRAS IP)
    Destination         Net Mask               Gateway                Interface
    192.168.14.0      255.255.255.0        192.168.2.1            LAN
    192.168.14.0    255.255.255.0
      192.168.14.254      LAN             (
    (.254 is the remote gateway)

  • MAC address access control default?

I'm still using old graphite ABS, and all of them
are using MAC address access control.
Just by accident I connected a PB G4 with an
    internal extreme Airport card.
The MAC address of this AirPort card wasn't in the
    access list of the ABS.
It looks like ABS does only limit access through
MAC addresses for 802.11b cards. I'll spend some time
    to double check this behaviour.
Did anyone already see this default of access
    control?

I'm pretty well aware of the limitations of any kind of
MAC address control: in an hostile environment its a
"straw house" or an "empty extinguisher".
But in a collaborative and friendly environment I thought
it may be a useful "frontier marker" between "friendly" and
    clearly "hostile" behaviors.
    This belief was foolish.

  • Script Automation of VM in SCVMM 2012 R2 Rollup 1 - Cannot retrieve Mac Address

    Hi All.
I am creating a script for automation of VM
I have run into a problem, I get my vm created as it should( at least I think so) I can boot the machine and in there I see a MAC Address from the console view, I know the machine has a mac address.
I have tried to get my mac address like this, the result is blank
    Get-SCVirtualNetworkAdapter-VM$VMName|SelectMACAddress
    $ShowMacAddress.MACAddress
But if I go into the SCVMM Management console, and right click on my newly created machine and click refresh, my Mac Address suddenly shows up.
I have tried this link, but it does not work for me

Please help me, I am stuck

Ps. do I need to post the rest of my script?

If you are trying to get this information immediately after the VM creation, VMM may not have the information. To my understanding, once the VM is created and the VMM get the updates while refreshing the VM, these updates will get updated.
As a workaround, you could initiate a refresh immediately after the VM creation and then query the MAC.
    Refresh-VM VMName
After a successful refresh, you should be able to query the mac address.

  • RRAS 2012 - Cannot Change IPV4 From DHCP -- Static Address Pool

Have set up RRAS/DA 2012 and it works but I need to change from using our DHCP server to a static address pool.    However, when I go to RRAS server properties & IPv4 tab the section to opt for DHCP/Static is dimmed out.
Any suggestions to get around this annoyance so I can use static address pools for remote users?
    Thanks as always!

Please try to use the following PowerSHell command and see how it works.

  • Windows 2012 r2 802.1X MAC Address bypass configuration

I am setting up MAB for my environment and I want to make sure I am setting it up correctly, as I see some articles stating there is a reg edit needed and others that don't mention it at all.
I have Dell PowerConnect switch with 802.1X authentication working for my Domain Computers.
I now want to allow non-802.1x capable devices to be assigned the correct vlans (Printers, IP Phones, etc).
I have created a user account in AD for the device, using lowercase MAC Address for the username and password.
I have set the switchport to allow MAB
I have created a NPS Network Policy for one of the devices and assigned the groups it belongs to and set Authentication Method to: Unencrypted (PAP,SPAP).
I keep receiving this error in the logs "The user attempted to use an authentication method that is not enabled on the matching network policy"
Does anyone have advice or can direct me to a nice guide/checklist of all the areas that need to be set to allow this to happen?

You've posted in the Print/Fax forum, but I can see you've also posted in the NAP forum. You'll likely get a better response over there, so maybe you should delete this question in here..

  • How do you change apple ID in app store when default is a .Mac address?

On an iPad I am trying to log in. The dialog box has a default .Mac user I'd. I use my comcast.net email as my ID. Can't see where to change that. Forces me to change my password only. Did that and don't want to do that again.

I have an old .mac iTunes account, it cannot be deleted, I use my new mobileme/iCloud account.
Both passwords are the same so it's easy to switch if any older Apps etc.. need updating..

  • Hyper-V MAC addresses

    Hi,
I understand that each Hyper-v node in a cluster will have its own dynamic pool of MAC addresses that should be different between them. When a VM is started on a node it gets a MAC from this pool, if it's moved to another node and restarted it will get a
new MAC from the pool on that node. This is a concern for me as I don't want MAC addresses to change when VM's are restarted on different nodes, besides statically assigning a MAC address to EVERY single VM (which could be a fair few with the amount you can
host these days) is there any easier way to ensure once a VM has a MAC then it will always retain that MAC regardless of which node it is restarted on?
I am running Server 2012 R2 as the hyper-v host if that makes any difference.
    Many thanks
    Steve

    Hi,
With Hyper-V you can configure a virtual machine to use a dynamic or a static MAC address for any given network adapter.
The default option is to use a dynamic MAC address – which means that Hyper-V will generate an initial MAC address for the network adapter, and it will regenerate the MAC
address if it believes it is necessary.
If you use static MAC addresses you need to manually specify the MAC address to use, but Hyper-V will never change it.

  • VMM 2012 R2: error 410 / 0x80070001 when adding a new Hyper-V host. VMM Agent won't install automatically (status 1603)

I have several Windows Server 2012 R2 hosts. The OS is freshly installed, no roles/3d party software besides Hyper-V role). I also have a freshly installed VMM 2012 R2 server. They all are in the same AD domain. I want to manage those Hyper-V hosts
with this VMM instance, but I have troubles connecting those hosts to VMM.
Whenever I try to add a Hyper-V host in the VMM console, the process is stopped almost immediately after it starts. The failing step is "1.2 Install Virtual Machine Manager Agent". The final error message is as follows:
    Error (410)
    Agent installation failed on XXX.
    Incorrect function (0x80070001)
    Recommended Action
Try the operation again. If the problem persists, install the agent locally and then add the managed computer.
If I try to install the agent manually copied from the VMM host (C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Virtual Machine Manager\agents\amd64\3.2.7634.0
as of now) by just clicking on its MSI file in Windows Explorer (and agreeing to the Windows prompt to run it with elevated privileges), the installation fails as well with "Installation success or error status: 1603." in the
    server Application log.
The only way I found to install the agent is to run the installation from command prompt with elevated privileges. In this case the installation finishes successfully, and I can add the host to VMM by marking the "Reassociate the host" checkbox
    in the VMM wizard.
Why is it so? Isn't the agent supposed to install without manual intervention? As I recall, I had no such problem with previous versions of Windows Server and VMM.

I brought up the share because it is off by default with Hyper-V Server as well as a Core installation.  Regardless of the Firewall policy involved.
Maybe, but I don't work with pure Hyper-V and Core servers. I have a full-fledged Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.
You're correct that File Server role is not enabled by default, this is my mistake. I open SMB-IN port manually (with the help of a group policy), and Windows considers it to be am equivalent of the enabled File Server role. Nonetheless, ADMIN$ share is
always accessible in my environment (and without it, for example, I wouldn't be able to remotely install things like SCOM Agent which installs without a glitch). Just in case I manually installed the File Server role, and it didn't help.
What you say about multihomed servers is interesting. The servers in question do have multiple network interfaces, but at the time I tried to install the VMM Agent only one of them (a designated host management / network access interface) had a real IP address.
Two other interfaces were non-configured (I apply a virtual switch configuration after the VMM Agent is installed). Just in case I disabled them when tried to install the VMM Agent remotely on the last host, and the installation still failed immediately
after start. Anyways, after the VMM Agent is installed manually the host can be normally re-associated with VMM, so it's doubtful that I have a network issue.
And, of course, there is no 3d-party software on the hosts (no antiviruses/firewalls in particular) except the EMC Unisphere Host Agent (a piece of software necessary for connecting a host to an EMC storage system) and networking drivers. Actually,
this is a pure Microsoft environment.
So I still believe that is has something to do with the Windows Installer inability to configure Windows Firewall policy after being invoked from Windows Explorer with a double-click on a MSI file. But I don't know how to strictly confirm it.

  • Virtual MAC-Address on Solaris 10 update 9

    Hi,
i'm installing Solaris 10 update 9 on UCS B-Series (B230 M2 or B440 M2) with M72KR-Q Adapter. We create the Service Profile with vNIC associated to vNIC Template. The vNIC Template use the MAC Pool Address configurated.
When we run ifconfig -a on Solaris we can view only the original MAC-Address instead of Virtual MAC-Addres. Is this correct?
    Thanks in advance

When you say the "original" MAC are you referring to the Hardware Default?
Ensure your MAC pool has available addresses also.  You can also test unbinding the vNIC template from the Solaris service profile, and manually assigning a MAC address (watch for overlap) to the vNIC and see if that pushes to the solaris host.
If that works, then you have a pool/template issue.  If not, we'll need to investigate further.
    Regards,
    Robert
