VMM Library Hosted By a Cluster

So, we have a Hyper-V cluster running Server 2012 R2. We installed SCVMM and added the cluster. How, the Cluster is using a CSV to store virtual machines, which is running off a Storage Appliance the hosts are talking with via iSCSI. Everything is working
great, but I've run into a problem, I want my VMM libraries to live on the Storage Appliance the cluster is using. Ideally, I'm wondering if there is a way to host a library share from a cluster? I'd like to create a LUN to store all my VM templates and have
that LUN hosted by the cluster. I can create a LUN and assign it to a File Server role and share out the lun via UNC path, but what I'd really like is for that cluster name to be the VMM share, rather than installing the agent on a VM or something and then
having the VM act as a proxy. Realistically, if I'm deploying a VM from my library share that's on the same storage appliance as the host it's going to is using the fewer network hops between them the better since internally my cluster is all 10gigabit. How
do I add a library share that's not an actual server, but just a UNC path from a LUN? I've added it for now as a UNC path through my VMM server, but I'm worried it's going through that machine to go back to the cluster.
I know that Ideally with an SMI or SMP the SCVMM could probably use sancopy, how would that setup work though? Would I need to create a dummy VM and use iSCSI to connect it to a LUN, and then no traffic would actually go over iSCSI because it would just
use SAN copy as long as my storage appliace is capable of SAN copy?

When you add a library server with shares to VMM, VMM performs an installation of the VMM agent. You will not be able to install a VMM agent on your storage appliance directly, as this requires Windows Server.
You could create a guest file cluster that is using a LUN from your storage appliance, and
then add it to VMM afterwards.

  • Cannot migrate VM in VMM but can in Failover Cluster Manager network adapters network optimization warning

I have a 4 node Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster and manage it with VMM 2012 R2.  I just upgraded the cluster from 2012 RTM to 2012 R2 last week which meant pulling 2 nodes out of the existing cluster, creating the new R2 cluster, running the copy
cluster roles wizard since the VHDs are stored on CSVs, and then added the other 2 nodes after installing R2 on them, back into the cluster.  After upgrading the cluster I am unable to migrate some VMs from one node to another.  When trying to do
a live migration, I get the following notifications under the Rating Explanation tab:
Warning: There currently are not network adapters with network optimization available on host Node7.
Error: Configuration issues related to the virtual machine VM1 prevent deployment and must be resolved before deployment can continue.
I get this error for 3 out of the 4 nodes in the cluster.  I do not get this error for Node10 and I can live migrate to that node in VMM.  It has a green check for Network optimization.  The others do not.  These errors only affect
VMM. In the Failover Cluster Manager, I can live migrate any VM to any node in the cluster without any issues.  In the old 2012 RTM cluster I used to get the warning but I could still migrate the VMs anywhere I wanted to.  I've checked the network
adapter settings in VMM on VM1 and they are the same as VM2 which can migrate to any host in VMM.  I then checked the network adapter settings of the VMs from the Failover Cluster Manager and VM1 under Hardware Acceleration has "Enable virtual machine
queue" and Enable IPsec task offloading" checked.  I unchecked those 2 boxes refreshed the VMs, refreshed the cluster, rebooted the VM and refreshed again but I still could not live migrate VM1.  Why is this an issue now but it wasn't before
running on the new cluster?  How do I resolve the issue?  VMM is useless if I can't migrate all my VMs with it.

I checked the settings on the physical nics on each node and here is what I found:
Node7: Virtual machine queue is not listed (Cannot live migrate problem VM's to this node in VMM)
Node8: Virtual machine queue is not listed (Cannot live migrate problem VM's to this node in VMM)
Node9: Virtual machine queue is listed and enabled (Cannot live migrate problem VM's to this node in VMM)Node10: Virtual machine queue is listed and enabled (Live Migration works on all VMs in VMM)
From Hyper-V or the Failover Cluster manager I can see in the network adapter settings of the VMs under Hardware Acceleration that these two settings are checked "Enable virtual machine queue" and Enable IPsec task offloading".  I unchecked those
2 boxes, refreshed the VMs, refreshed the cluster, rebooted the VM and refreshed again but I still cannot live migrate the problem VMs.
It seems to me that if I could adjust those VM settings from VMM that it might fix the problem.  Why isn't that an option to do so in VMM?
Do I have to rebuild the VMM server with a new DB and then before adding the Hyper-V cluster uncheck those two settings on the VM's from Hyper-V manager?  That would be a lot of unnecessary work but I don't know what else to do at this point.

  • Proper steps to fail over to another host in a cluster

    Hello,
Pardon my ignorance.  What is the proper steps to force a fail over to the standby host in a cluster with two nodes?

  • FrontEnd hosts in weblogic cluster

    Hello,
I have set the frontEnd hosts in weblogic cluster(10.3.5) to the loadbalancer URL(https://xyz.com) . Webservice developed in 11g is deployed to the cluster. The dynamic wsdl generated contains the the Address of the frontEnd in <address> Tag of the WSDL file.
But when i try to test the service by clicking on 'test client' on the deployment page. It gives me following error
failed due to This service requires https, but the attempt to access Test Client at https address https://<ip address where weblogic managed server is running>:443/wls_utc/begin.do did not suceed due to java.net.ConnectException: Tried all:1 addresses, but could not connect over HTTPS to server:<ip address where weblogic managed server is running> port:443. In order to test  a service that requires https the Test Client must be running on a server configured for https.
Can we configure the front end hosts point to https and still test the test client using the deployment page.?
    Thanks,
    Ram

    Hi Kal,
I did try to enable SSL listen port. Though i am able to access WSDL but the Test Client is still giving the same exception.

No entry is made on the cluster log of the destination node.
To me this means the nodes cannot talk to each other, but I don’t know why.
They are on the same domain.  Their server names resolve properly and they can ping eachother both by name and IP.

  • VMM Library server refresh fails with error 2910

After changing our Library structure I'm getting this error whenever I try to refresh the library share on one of our Library servers:
I have no idea why VMM tries to access a file inside userprofiles\temp. The svc_scvmm is a service account, but not the account used for communication with the library server from VMM. The correct service account is a member of the local admins, so the problem
shouldn't lie there. The file it's asking for simply doesn't exist.
    Anyone have any pointers?

    Hi Trond,
"Was your library share on the VMM server? VMM requires that you have a Library Server on the VMM server.  If you try to remove this server through VMM, you will get an error not allowing you to do this.
If the files on the new share are the same ones that were refeshed into the old share, the library refresher should find that they have moved.  Whenever the library refresher brings files under management it tags them with an ID.  However
if these files were copied before they had been put into the orginal library share, they will be missing the necessary tag that identifies them as being identical and therefore not found.  At this point you'll have to remove and recreate the templates.
I believe the error you are seeing is because the VMM Server account is not in the administrators group on the host machine. You could either add the account or re-add the library server using the administrator console. "

We need to access SAPMNT hosted on CI node name R3-FFHK-CLS01 of the

The SAPLOC and SAPMNT was created during SAP installation and have been

Despite the above, when we logon to Windows 2003 on SAP QAS server name

  • Problem configuring front end host for weblogic cluster

    hi,
I am using weblogic 8 sp4,I have a cluster of WLI servers for which i am trying to configure a front end host.I am using apache Http server 2.0.55 for the same.
I copied the mod_wl_20.so file to the modules directory and added the following to httpd.conf file
    LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_20.so
    <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
    WebLogic http://myIP:9191,http://myIP:9192,http://myIP:9193
    ErrorPage http://myerrorpage1.mydomain.com/
    MatchExpression *.jsp
    MatchExpression *.xyz
    </IfModule>
    <Location /weblogic>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    PathTrim /weblogic
    </Location>
however, the error page gets displayed and not the default weblogic page.
When I change the Error page url to that of my cluster url(i.e)http://myIP:9191, the weblogic default page gets displayed .. I mean to say that the same url doesnot work with the WeblogicCluster parameter but works with
    the ErrorPage parameter.
Somebody who has configured the front end host using apache http server please clarify, it would be of great help.
    Thanks in advance

  • Library hosted on external hard drive not recognized

Hi, I recently installed Motion 3 for the first time along with the rest of Final Cut Studio. I began using it recently and I found that the "Particle Emitters" folder is empty in the library. I checked the preferences, and the library is set to the right folder, all of my studio content is hosted in a folder on my external hard drive.
Some of the library options work, like gradients and shapes, but particle emitters and others don't. I don't have enough room on my regular hard drive to put all of the motion content into the regular place on the main hard drive, and I've already tried trashing the .plist file in library>preferences
    Any idea what's up?

Did you reset the library location in the preferences menu? I had a similar problem but my library is on my local volume. I just reselected the location-the same location-and restarted motion and everything was back. Give it a go.

  • Creating logical host on zone cluster causing SEG fault

As noted in previous questions, I've got a two node cluster. I am now creating zone clusters on these nodes. I've got two problems that seem to be showing up.
I have one working zone cluster with the application up and running with the required resources including a logical host and a shared address.
I am now trying to configure the resource groups and resources on additional zone clusters.
In some cases when I install the zone cluster the clzc command core dumps at the end. The resulting zones appear to be bootable and running.
I log onto the zone and I create a failover resource group, no problem. I then try to create a logical host and I get:
"Method hafoip_validate on resource xxx stopped or terminated due to receipt of signal 11"
This error appears to be happening on the other node, ie: not the one that I'm building from.
Anyone seen anything like, this have any thoughts on where I should go with it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In some cases when I install the zone cluster the clzc command core dumps at the end. The resulting zones appear to be bootable and running.Look at the stack from your core dump and see whether this is matching with the bug:
6763940 clzc dumped core after zones were installed
As far as I know, the above bug is harmless and no functionality should be impacted. This bug is already fixed in the later release.
"Method hafoip_validate on resource xxx stopped or terminated due to receipt of signal 11" The above message is not enough to figure out what's wrong. Please look at the below:
    1) Check the /var/adm/messages on the nodes and observe the messages that got printed around the same time that the above
message got printed and see whether that gives more clues.
    2) Also see whether there is a core dump associated with the above message and that might also provide more information.
If you need more help, please provide the output for the above.
    Thanks,
    Prasanna Kunisetty

  • How external users can upload files in document library hosted in onpremise SharePoint?

    Hi all,
We have setup a document library(DL) in SharePoint site hosed on-premise with no direct access from public zone/internet being an intranet solution. We have some external users who need to upload some files that needs to go in this document
library. These files are quite confidential in nature so security is a prime requirement. Following are the couple of options I have in mind:
    1. External users upload their file in their designated folder to secure FTP using their own credential set. And also there is a background process (kind of directory watcher) that keep looking at the all the folders
and moves the files to document library
    2. We host a single page application which has One time password (OTP) kind of feature. External user comes to the secure site to specify Vendor team name and mobile number. OTP is generated and user is asked to specify the password along with file
they would like to upload. This page also maps the vendor name with respective folder in DL and moves the files to SharePoint there on the fly.
Pls. share your opinion about these approaches. Also welcome your thoughts if there is any other better option.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I agree with the Margriet, the first option is simple and safe, the users could not access the document library directly.
For security, it is an importance for users not access the document library directly, it will reduce the risk of the documents in the library.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Audio on some songs not playing - iTunes Library hosted External Hard Drive

Since moving my music to an external hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme, audio on some tracks will not play. Seemingly at random, songs will just silently move through the track time. Visually it looks as if the tracks are playing, the iTunes timer-cursor moves through the track as if audio is playing. Instead of playing the audio I hear x:xx minutes of silence.  If I rewind the song to the begining audio will play as it should.  I wasn't having this issue when music was hosted locally. There's doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason which tracks are play and which don't.

  • Database bau host in HA cluster setups

In cluster setups for MSSQL, is there a technical term to describe the host that will run specific SQL instances/databases under normal circumstances (i.e. while it is up and doesnt need to be run by another server in the cluster)?

This is the "Primary Node" for the instance.  That's not a term that has any technical meaning in a Windows Cluster.  You may use cluster failover policies for the instance to help ensure that the instance is normally running on its Primary Node.
You can set the Primary Node for the instance as the "Preferred Owner" in the cluster configuration.  This will cause that node to be preferred over other nodes for failover
    and failback.

  • Updating itunes with an external hard drive as library host

A quick question: I have my itunes library on an external hard drive. Do I need to have the hard drive plugged in in order to do updates (i.e., if I don't, will bad things happen when I do an update of itunes)?
    Thanks,
    Stephen Blackwood

If you try to add music or launch iTunes and click play, without your external drive connected and running, iTunes will revert to the default location: ~/your user name/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music.
Updating the iTunes application (iTunes 7 anyone?) will not cause problems.
