Voice sounds to "recorded over" song?

I'm recording my vocals over an audio track but the issue I'm having is that my voice doesn't sound like it's a part of the song. This is really hard to explain. Basically you can tell I recorded my  vocals over the audio track. It doesn't really sound like it's a part of the song. Is there any kind of editing I can do to make it sound like better? I'm sorry if you don't know what I'm saying. It's very hard to explain. I'm very new to Soundbooth. Thanks for any help.

"Baffling"
By that, I don't mean your question is baffling, I mean whatever location you are using to record your vocals, needs baffling to remove echoes (however slight) and ambient noise.
I had a neighbor who converted a bedroom of his house into an audiobook recording room. He used "egg crate" foam to cover the walls, and he "packed" the window cavities with fiberglas insulation. He covered the A/C vent, and wrapped the door with weather-stripping. Then he bought a studio quality mic with a foam cover and went about his reading of "the classics". They sounded incredible. Really professional quality.
As you can see, there are plenty of preset filters to add or cut ambience. You can "tweak" them individually to your own tastes, but by themselves, I couldn't really recommend one and say "this'll do the trick".
You really have to experiment, but it's better to start with a vocal recording that's as close to a studio as you can get.  If you're going to seriously pursue this, it might be worth the investment to buy the foam and set a room up for "clean" recording. It'll save you a lot of editing time when you combine tracks.

I recorded over a voice memo on accident is there anyway I can undo that to get the old one back it's very important that I have it for court reasons

No.  Not unless you did a backup that included that voice memo, then you could restore from that backup.

  • Converting cassette to cd using garageband.  Voice on cassette sounds like chipmunk.  Is there a way to fix the speed during recording on garageband, so the voice sounds normal?

Librarian Asst. needs your help!  Trying to preserve WWII veteran's interviews presently on cassette.  However, on one cassette the voices sound like chipmunks (speed too fast during recording).  I know how to transfer the cassette recording onto garageband.  I just don't know how to transfer the recording at a slower speed, so that the voices will sound normal.  Is there a way?  Please help.  Thanks.

You could try two things (sorry, I can only point you to the current settings in GB'11, since I no longer have GB '09) but it should be very similar.
The easiest thing would be, if the vocal transformers do work. You can change the pitch of a voice using a "Vocal Transformer" effect. Click the "Edit" tab in the "Info" panel and click an empty brick to add a filter:
If that does not work, try to change the timing of the track. Enable "Follow Tempo&Pitch". If GB '09 does not have "follow tempo & pitch", record your tape directly into a Real Instrument track in GB to record a purple region.
Use the tempo slider in the LED display to lower the tempo, till the recording does sound more natural.
    Good Luck,
    Léonie

  • Recording over existing tracks w/ Audition to make sure timing is correct

A problem I have consistently is keeping the right timing for tracks when I am importing previously recorded tracks into a new session of a song. To get around this previously in older editions of Adobe Audition, I would record whole blank tracks that corresponded to the duration of the instrumental track. I would then simply record over the blank tracks. Thus, even if the computer crashed or I switched to a new session, it would be easy to maintain the appropriate timing of vocals, because everything had the same duration and start time.
However, with the current edition of Adobe Audition, when you try to record over a pre-existing track in multitrack view, it creates a new block instead of recording over the old block. What do I do to solve my original problem, or how can I record over existing blocks without having new blocks show up?
I hope this makes sense. Please help.

I finally found the solution on page 317 of the manual. Under Options in the top menu choose "auto input monitoring." Isn't that obvious when every other input/ouput control is in the Arrange and Mixer screens? Oh, well, now it works very well, great sound and no tracks overlaying.

  • Make a teenage voice sound older

I am recording voices in a rural Moroccan dialect to dub onto a documenatry that was produced in English in order for illerate women here to be able to  understand the video (it is about women's rights). There are only teenage girls who can read the script but some of the documentary voices are from older women.  So what specific filters do you suggest to make a young female voice sound older. I have tried lowering the pitch a bit which works somewhat for boys' voices, but it does not seem as effective for girls'.  Any ideas. I am not trying to win an Oscar with this effort, but I don't want the viewer to be distracted by a young voice dubbed over a middle-age woman.

There are several ways to modify pitch. The plugin version is probably going to be the least effective in this situation. If you haven't tried it, using the destructive audio editor (Sample Editor -> Factory -> Time and Pitch Machine) might provide better results — but be sure to save a copy of your unmodified audio, in case you need to undo.
That said, it might be more distracting for the listener to hear a voice that has obviously been modified. A message is a message, no? If the age/sound is a serious concern, it might be worthwhile to cast older women for the voiceover. Or ... why not have the young woman read and translate the script, then have the older woman ADR/record it line-by-line?

  • No sound was recorded when recording videos on iPhone 4

Hi, my iPhone can't record sound when recording video, but the voice memo app still works fine. Any ideas?
(It plays some "weeeee" sounds insteaad)

Thanks for your reply . I've removed the cover when doing both tests I mentioned. The earphone I used is at good condition and I don't see any problem with it. I've also reinstalled the iOS as your instruction, but still no luck, the video sound still has noise.
I've decided to export the video file to my PC to see if I can hear sound better or not, as it's hard to hear and sound except noise with the external speaker on my iPhone even at maximum volume. On my PC I had to increased playback volume to 100%, set volume booster to 300% and applied noise reduction plugin (I use Media Player Classic on Windows 7) to get an acceptable sound (still noise but better than the original). If I don't boost the volume, it's hard to hear anything. I don't expect it to be crystal clear like the voice memo (using the bottom mic), but too much noise like this is really bad.
So I think it appears to be a hardware-related problem. I will later consider to send it to a phone repair shop or keep it and accept this bad video sound problem . In Vietnam we just have Apple authorized resellers but don't have any official Apple repair shops, that's why I'm still confused as I don't really trust those phone repair shops to handle my iPhone. Anyway, thanks again for your comment .
P.S: it maybe a little off-topic, but do you know any video recording app that using the bottom mic ?

  • How can i record a song in a karaoke music track via GB?

how can i record a song in a karaoke music track via GB?

    First plug in some headphones.
Then drop the karaoke song into garageband. You do this by just draging and dropping the song file into garageband or if the song is in itunes just use garagebands media browser.
Now create another track (vocal track).
Put headphones on hit record and sing.
This is a bit over simplifed but give it a try someone will be here when you have more specific problems.

  • No sound from GB over Bluetooth connection

The function to perform sound of Garageband over Bluetooth doesn't work well!
The I-pad settings  to play sound over BT are correct.
The pairing with my (bluetooth) VOIIS gateway was succesful.
Music (sound)  from my I-Pad (i.e. Music APP) is transmitted correct to my amplifier  through this device.
The special setting in Garageband have been done ( sound over Bluetoorth/HDMI)
however the sound of Garageband over Bluetooth is not transmitted to my BT device.
Without Bluetooth setting it is working well (sound from I-pad speakers (i should say squeeckers ))

    The problem is solved!
I did what you suggest a couple of times, but i had no luck.
What might have somehow fixed the problem: I opened iWeb, and then previewed a GB song to import. It played great.
Then I opened GB and everything worked...
    Strange.
Thank you all for your help anyway!

  • In Garageband 10.0.1, why can't I record over an existing track "on the fly"?

If I have a track that has a mistake on it, in the older version, I could play the song and just hit the record button when I wanted to record over the mistake on that same track.  It was really useful. Now I can't seem to do that. Help?!?

First, let me say that the new iMovie 10.0.1 is utterly frustrating!  It is so much less user friendly than iMovie 9.  I liked having all the tools in my face with the old version.  Now I have to spend an hour just finding things and learning how to do things all over again.
You'll find you still have iMovie version 9 in your Applications folder. Why not keep using it?
My concern is that I'm done editing for today and I want to quit the app.  In version 9, all I had to do was quit and everything was automatically saved.  Now, iMove 10 says "Are you sure you want to quit? Tasks that are currently in progress will not be completed."  What tasks?  I'm certain I did everything "by the book".
iMoive is completing rendering or some other task that it does in the background. It does work in the background so that you can keep working and not have to wait for it.
Also, I couldn't find the option to export to iDVD.  Is this a thing of the past now?  Do I have to save the file first and then drag the file to iDVD to burn?  There seems to be extra steps involved now.
Yes. It is a thing of the past as far as Apple is concerned.

  • I have an iphone 4, how do I take stored voice messages and record them to a stick?

I have an iphone 4, how do I take stored voice messages and record them to a stick?  A family member passed away and I want to keep their voice.

    Hey there!
Sadly, there is no way to do this.
I'm sad to hear you've lost a familymember.
Try this: Move in a quiet-room. Play his/her voice over speaker of your iphone and record it with free recording-softwarefor windows or mac.
Hope this will help you keeping the memory.

  • Imovie 10.0.5 won't allow recording over clips

    Hi,
I am using iMovie 10.0.5 and am having trouble with the recording over clips.  When I am finalizing a project and I just want to add some voice over to the clips and I click the record button, 90% of the time, it's counts down 3, 2, and then hangs and stops and won't allow me to record anything.  Anyone else have this problem?   ....or how to fix it?
    Kathy

You've probably found the answer to your iMovie/voiceover by now. But....in case you didn't, here is what to do.
To insert voiceover, press the letter V on your keyboard. Click on the video in the Create Box. With your mouse, choose where you want to place your voiceover. Click there. Recording can't happen if you don't choose where you want the voiceover to start.  Now, click on the microphone. 1-2-3 record.  Hit the space bar when you want to stop voiceover in 10.0.5.  To listen to your video with the voiceover in place, click on the beginning of the video and hit the space bar. If you want to remove your recorded voice, click on the it and press delete.

  • Changing voice sound from a garage to a rainforest ? in FCP

I have just greenscreened 2 people in a garage, so have a garage contained slighly reverb voices sound..In the film they are speaking in a giant rainforest..
What is the best easiest way to change the sound so they sound as though they are in the open?
What filters to I look at in Audio filters in FCP ?
    Any feedback very much appreciated.

yep already got the bird, gentle river, monkey and ambient music along with a few headhunter noises!?...will try noise gate and experiment there...
I'm sure alot of people are going to be recording greenscreen in a garage or small hall..its sure a major problem trying not to get a reverb sound from external mic and then trying to get rid of reverb as you say.
Thanks for the advice Jim, appreciated.
