Waiting For Ipod Restore Function error occurred 9

I try to restore my ipod touch I see the screen with the music icon disc and usb cable.
It starts to restore but says waiting for ipod.
I can see the Apple logo and a continuous circle at the bottom rotating clockwise.
It just stays like that even after several hours.
I even tried loading the cable that comes with the ipod classic.
When I disconnect the usb cable it says:
The IPOD "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9)

Try forcing your iPod into Recovery Mode prior to restoring:
Disconnect the iPod from your computer. Hold the Sleep/Wake button (on top) until you see a red slider that says "Slide to Power Off." Drag the slider across the screen to allow the device to power off. Then, press and hold the Home button on the front of the iPod WHILE you are connecting it to your computer... so, hold down Home, connect the USB cable, and then release Home when you see the Apple logo appear. iTunes should state that it has detected an iPod or iPhone in recovery mode, and prompt you to restore it.
See if that allows you to restore

  • HT1339 "waiting for ipod" when restoring

    Hello,
My ipod touch 4th gen shut off yesterday and would not open.  I have attached it with two different cables to my computer.  It says that it needs to restore, offers me the button to do this task, extracts software, contacts itunes, then stays on the page  "Ipod recovery mode"  with "waiting for ipod" forever.  I am living abroad and cannot get to a genius bar.  PLEASE HELP.. I puchased this Ipod in January 2013.  So it is pretty much brand new.
    Thanks
    SN

  • IPod touch 4th gen won't restore or power on after dropping it on its back "waiting for ipod"

My iPod touch 4th gen was recently dropped on its back after playing with its case. It turned white, then powered off.
After that i tried restoring and now everytime itunes stays on the "waiting for ipod" step.
I know that all functions work because I successfully entered dfu mode many times, and the lcd powers on but the progress bar doesn't move while itunes says waiting for ipod.
Thanks for looking at my thread and sorry if i misposted (first time apple forum user)

Something has been jarred inside. Anecdotally, people have reported success smacking their device again, to maybe rejarr things back into working order. But doing that is your call since it could be defined as abuse.
If it's physically damaged inside, there may not be much of a user fix for you to try unfortunately.

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

Now when I attmept to connect it to any Mac it freezes up and fails to mount. Come on apple. Also, why the is there no longer an iPod preference section in the new iTunes. I keep trying to Restore the firmware, but I keep getting the "Waiting for iPod to become ready" message.
    Attempted solutions:
    • Re-installing iTunes 7.0 (no luck)

    • Forcing the iPod into disk mode (no luck)
    • Re-installing iPod software (iPod won't mount...so that didn't work)

You may want to look at this:

I had the same problem and was able to fix it by following the directions on resetting the iPod, renaming the iPod and also ensuring that I removed any files that might not be understood by the iPod from the 'notes' folder on the iPod (if you have enabled disk access):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3111498#3111498
PS: If you need to get out of the 'Do not disconnect' screen so that you can apply these changes you need to hold down the 'menu' and 'select' or center button until you see the Apple logo. When the iPod mount you can proceed to reset the iPod to original settings which will erase everything from the iPod but not your iTunes library on your computer

  • Restoring stuck on 'waiting for ipod' SOMEONE PLEAAASE HELP:( lol

my ipod wont finish its restoring it locks up on 'waiting for ipod' x

Nobody from Apple here.  Just users like you.  Perhaps the question is very short on details for anyone to recognize the problem.  What is showing on your iPod screen?  If nothing, try to turn it on.  What is showing then?

  • Ipod touch restore waiting for ipod

I want to restore my touch to the factory settings.  It will no longer do anything.
If I connect to iTunes, it recognizes it and says it is in the process of recovery.
When I continue, It begins extracting files and then goes into "waiting for ipod" mode where it remains without proceeding - even after leaving it for a day.
Anyone now how I can proceed to get things to progress.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Cannot restore iPod Touch 5g: iTunes "Waiting for iPod"

SIDE NOTE: For a TL:DR, I've made all the important stuff bold.
I've been having this issue with my iPod Touch 5G where I cannot restore it no matter what I do.
This article, This article, This article, nor This article helped me.
When my iPod is not connected to the computer, it literally does nothing at all, no matter what you do. When you plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes it as an iPod, but it says "Serial Number: n/a", and will not display any info. I can tell my iPod detects button presses because I can connect it and disconnect it just by holding in the Power and Home buttons. After plugging it in, the bar at the top of iTunes says "Extracting software", then after that bar fills up it goes to "Waiting for iPod". It then says "Preparing iPod for restore", and then fluctuates between the last two, once or twice. After that, iTunes gets stuck on "Waiting for iPod", and stays there. The iPod, however, displays an apple logo with an empty progress bar beneath it. I took it to an Apple Store not too long ago, and they couldn't fix it. The employee there couldn't do anything more than what I've done. He said that my only option is to get a new one. I still haven't lost hope, though, because there has been two other cases where I've fixed devices where something like this has happened. It's just not working now.
    Anyways, please help!
    Sincerely, Alex.

    - Try another cable
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try on another computer
    - Not clear you tried DFU mode and then restore
