Waranty 2 years less than advertised by promotion?

I'm trying to contact HP promotion without success. I bought an Officejet Pro 8620 on December 8 2014, and I sent the invoice to HP promotions, to extend my waranty to 3 years, as advertised.

HP was supposed to answer my request within 6 weeks, but until today I haven' received any.
To my dissapointment, I realized today that my Officejet is covered only for one year. Do you consider this right?

    AnswerIt is because storage drive capacity is calculated and reported slightly differently than other capacities in computing. If you look at the specifications of any storage drive, you will see a note that says something along the lines of ”1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.” In other words, the drive capacity is reported on the assumption that 1GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. So a 480GB SSD is in other words actually 480,000,000,000 bytes.
    If you are familiar with computers you know that they calculate things slightly differently. Computers count 1,024 bytes per Kilobyte, 1,024 KB per Megabyte, and 1,024 MB per Gigabyte. This means that when you install a 480,000,000,000 bytes storage drive into a computer, that computer converts the amount of bytes into gigabytes by dividing by 1024 all the way up through the scale, not by dividing by 1,000.
    Doing the math, this is what we end up with:
    480,000,000,000 Bytes / 1,024 = 468,750,000 actual Kilobytes
    468,750,000 KB / 1,024 = 457,764 actual Megabytes
    457,764 MB / 1,024 = 447 actual Gigabytes
    And that is why a 480GB SSD will be correctly reported by a computer as 447GB. The larger the numbers are, the larger the discrepancies will be. On an 8GB USB drive the difference between the advertised capacity and the actual is about half a gigabyte, while in our example above the difference is a very noticeable 33GB. It is important to understand that these 33GB aren’t lost. The drive is 480,000,000,000 bytes in capacity, and after 480,000,000,000 bytes have been converted by a computer into Gigabytes, the total capacity comes to 447 GB.

        That is pretty strange, dlmanimal. Has your Caller ID shown this way since the first day you used the S5? Are you using any applications on your phone to place the call, such as Skype? Caller ID will be different for home and cellular services, since a cell phone ID will be based on how the name is saved in that person's contact details. You can also adjust your Caller ID name for landlines using Share Name ID http://vz.to/1zmtKsw.

  • Verizon Promotion arrives less than 48 hrs after Purchase of new phone/contract

    On 4 MAY, after waiting an entire month of waiting for an hard to resist Verizon Wireless promotion to land at my feet that related to the phone and the plan I was interested in, I gave up waiting and upgraded to a GzOne Commando Phone and extended my 2 Year Agreement.
    My total bill was $137 and change.Phone, Accessory Kit and Upgrade Fee
    Then can you believe it? less than 48 hours I am sent the following message from Verizon today:
    YOU CHOOSE
    Get a Free Phone or 2 months of line access FREE Call 1-877-492-8454 today. 2 year agreement required, $30 upgrade fee may apply. 
    Is there anything that Verizon can do for me?  Can I get my phone for free after all? 
    Or 2 months of "line access?"
    I was upset enough yesterday, because I asked the CHAT representative why I had to pay an upgrade fee when I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years.  They basically gave me the impression everyone pays. If that is so what does it say above "$30 upgrade MAY apply?"

  • I have had an apple iPad 2 for less than a year and I have less than 2 pages of apps but when I look at the space meter the "other" section is taking up 6.7 Gb out of 16 Gb on it. I have researched this on the Internet and no one seems to know what it is.

    The long and short of it is that you will probably have to restore your iPad. That giant "other" space is a sign of a corrupt file from a sync, I am pretty sure, but I am quite sure that the way to resolve it is to restore the iPad.

    I Have a refurbished iPhone 5 that is less than a year old (apple replaced my first one due to a battery fault) but this one has all of a sudden become unresponsive most times and a purple haze has come thru the background on the lCd. The cursor goes abit cranky sometimes too and jumps from Window to window?! It has never been dropped or screen has never been replaced either no exposure to water or sun. This happened after I upgraded to the new iOS 8.1. I don't think it was the update but I've never had good results from updating the iPhone anyway..

  • 5c-Have had it for less than a year?

    Hello, I am a college student who has had their iphone 5c for less than a year now. I take very good care of my electronics and I have never cracked a screen or anything. This phone screen isn't cracked either or damaged.
    This all started a few months ago, when the weather changed and got really cold. My phone started having a "mind of its own" and would open applications and other things such as facetime all by itself. I learned ways to help stop this such as turning off my wifi and 3g, which would momentarily calm it down but I would notice these faint lines appear on my screen any time it decided to ghost. I would turn down the screens brightness to help my phone "cool off" i guess you could say.
    The other day, after doing NOTHING to my phone, the bottom part pixelated out. No reason just did.
    I figured okay, well I can see everything and the ghosting isn't worse so its fine. I'll get it fixed in may
    Since April 1st my phone won't even let me slide it to unlock. Its freezing cold all the time, and i can't answer any phone calls which is important when you're trying to transfer schools. it was bad enough when my phone would hang up calls for me, but now not even being able to answer them is pure ****.
    I looked up my warranty and it says it doesn't cover it? I've have had my phone for less than a year though so I don't understand. It's so frustrating. I've never had my old android do this to me. I switched to iphone for the convenience and yet here I am, having my phone not even turn slide on?
    I have tried everything, from turning it off for a day( I had to hard reset it any time I did this because the screen won't acknowledge any of my slides) and i tried factory resetting it when it started to ghost. I have never ever been more frustrated or disappointed with a product in my life.
    I want to send it to apple but I definitely don't have the money to replace an iphone that I am still paying for and haven't even cracked. I have an ipad and two ipods and those are in fine condition but I definitely need my phone. I am so upset with this product. If I send it to apple care are they just going to charge my card? I honestly have NO funds to pay for this right now and I desperately need my phone to work.

    And also when purchasing creates the PO getting similar message to a particular user.

    How to know where these users were maintained.

  • 4 computers in less than 4 years. What can I learn from this?

    I've had four MacBook Pros in the past 3.5 years.
    The first one had a bad motherboard and in the end, the computer was just replaced. I had it for less than a year when that happned, and the computer they replaced it with (#2) lasted two years.
    One month after the warranty ran out, it quit working and it needed a new motherboard. I bought a new computer (computer #3 at this point). That one worked for 3 months before I had to take it in. They replaced the motherboard.
    On Monday, computer number 3 quit working.(It was the second time I had to take it in. The first time they replaced the motherboard after it was three months old. Turns out, that didn't actually fix the issue and I had to erase everything and re-install the operating system). I took it in this time and they replaced the hard drive. That didn't fix the problem. So they replaced the RAM. That didn't fix the problem. I was just told on the phone that they would need to replace the computer because they have no idea what is wrong with it. I've had it since August. That one didn't last long.
    So now I'm on machine number 4 in less than 4 years. This is extremely frustrating, considering the time and revenue lost, as I need a computer every day to get my work done. I've lost money and clients. Every time I take these computers in, it's at least of week of sorting everything out. I should say that I am so careful with these computers. I keep them very clean and keep them in a protected case whenver I move them.
    Now, I like to look on the bride side of things. But I can not see a bright side to this.
    So I have two questions. What lesson should I learn from having to replace three MacBook Pro computers in such a short amount of time? And the second question, is there some customer support department that hear about this?

    Sorry to hear of your frustration. Regrettably, your experience is far from the norm but it's definitely not an unheard of story. A family friend experienced a similar issue with her Dell XPS machine (5 units in 33 months). Sometimes it's just a chain reaction of bad luck.
    Out of curiosity, if your computer is such a key component to your income and financial success then why do you have only one? I've worked in a position that has required constant contact to network services and resources and as such one of the first purchases I made was a secondary computer. It was nowhere near as nice as my main unit but it give me a buffer incase there was a situation that my primary machine was unavailable, lost, damaged or required service.
    As far as the lesson, there is none. Misdiagnosed machines or slow turn around times on repairs are never fun but there's not much you can do. Apple does have a department, called Customer Relations that you can speak to regarding your experience. Their number is (or at least was this the last time I called) 800-767-2775.

    First, make sure you're logged into the iTunes Store using the account ID and password you set up, or used, when you redeemed your card/gift.  If you are, try signing out of the account and back in.
    If you're sure you are using the correct account and that you're signing in to the iTunes Store, and signing out and back in doesn't help, go to the Purchase History and review your purchases to make sure that you should indeed have a balance left. iTunes doesn't always refresh the balance it shows, so it's possible you spent the money and it just wasn't being reflected in the display. This display error can usually be corrected by logging out of the iTunes Store and then back in.
    If you confirm that you should have balance left but the iTunes Store isn't showing it correctly, send a message to the iTunes Store customer service department through the contact form you'll find by selecting the most applicable section of their Support page (select the Contact Support link and follow the instructions) and explain the problem to them.

    I would like to know the answer to that one.  I realized this was happening just after upgradeing my iOS to 6.  Then when I looked up my purchase date, I was about 5 days past my one year warranty.  So I'm dead in the water.  Apple will replace the battery, but it will be about $80+.  I took it to the Apple store, and they checked a bunch of stuff, but said that it seemed ok.  I'm debating getting a battery for a more reasonable price off of ebay.  But if it's the iOS thats draining the battery, then I'm not going to be able to help it.  I wish I knew a better way to tell if its the battery, the phone, or the iOS.
