  • Services needed for traceroute?

    Hi all,
    I seem to have broken traceroute on my Solaris 10 box. I can ping, browse the web, etc. without a problem, but if I try to traceroute to say, www.google.com, it returns my gateway address first, then all else is * * *. Other machines on the same network don't have a problem. I tried resetting a different machine to the same IP address to check the router config, everything was fine.
    It appears to be just this one machine, and I don't know what I've done to upset it ;-)
    Is there a service that needs to be running for it to work properly, or something like that? The last time I used this machine I remember I was trying to reduce the visible services on the interface, but I don't remember which I turned off...

    UNIX' traceroute defaults to UDP-mode which is typically blocked or not passed statefully enough in your router/NAT/FW.
    Try "traceroute -I whatever.com" to switch to ICMP-mode
    Since you can ping, this is more likely to pass (statefully) through your router/NAT/FW)
    You don't need any service runnning for traceroute, but your router/NAT/FW must pass ICMP "echo request" out, and ICMP "echo" and ICMP "time exceeded" back.
    For UDP-mode it will have to pass out UDP port > 30000 (or so), and ICMP "port unreachable" and ICMP "time exceeded" back.

  • Lenovo support site, warranty lookup and warranty service unavailable for 72 hours?

    Hello, I've got a newly purchased Lenovo Yoga 2 13 with a confirmed hardware issue. I'd like to take advantage of the on-site support I purchased and it appears that's currently impossible. Here are the issues I've encountered.
    I began at the Lenovo Support site: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/
    I tried the Check Warranty Status tool ( http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup ) just to verify my new laptop and warranty are accurately listed in Lenovo's systems. No luck, the form has been returning a "Service Busy" error for the past hour.
    I then tried to submit an Online Service Request ( http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/submitrequestonline ) to schedule the repair. Again, no luck. The page is broken and has no form or links on it (see below). Same result in multiple browsers over the past hour.
    I finally called Lenovo technical support. Doing that was difficult because the support phone number is not listed anywhere visible on the Lenovo Support site - I had to find it through the FAQ here in the forum. The phone rep asked me some questions and then suggested I work with the vendor where I purchased the laptop. But it was purchased from Lenovo.com, so this is Lenovo's problem. The rep then informed me that the Lenovo technical support system is "being upgraded" and will be unavailable for the next 72 hours until Tuesday 8/12. I was unable to get a case number and will need to call back or submit a new request online (when and if the online form is repaired).
    A next-day, on-site warranty is kind of pointless of it takes 2 business days before you can even request service. Not a good first impression, Lenovo. How about acknowledging the "system upgrade" on the support site or forum so customers know what's going on?

    Does anyone know of any other options, or do I need to send my phone back to a service centre in Australia?
    For a warranty claim, there is no other option.

    I am receiving an error when I run the Manage Hybrid Configuration wizard - ERROR:Updating hybrid configuration failed with error 'Subtask NeedsConfiguration execution failed: Configure Recipient Settings. I have opened a SR, but figured I'd try the forums,
    too. I have a wildcard certificate from GoDaddy (MS says they support wildcards from GoDaddy) & that cert has only the IIS service applied to it on the CAS. I've read in the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant that it should have the SMTP & IIS services
    assigned to it, but my question is - SMTP on the CAS (separate server) or on the Mailbox/Hub Transport (separate server)? And what are the ramifications of assigning the SMTP service to, let's say, the CAS? We have had multiple issues every time the servers
    get updated/changed; I do not want to disrupt services further, as the Manage Hybrid Configuration will be done during business hours.
    If anyone can provide any assistance/clarification, it would be most appreciated.

    We can enable a Wildcard certificate with SMTP service for Exchange Hybird Deployment. The SMTP service can be assigned to multiple certificates. For some Exchange services such as OWA, Ecp, ActiveSync, Autodiscover service, OOF, it is used with Exchange
    certificate with IIS service. And there is usually only one certificate can be assigned with IIS service.
    Please just make sure your Wildcard certificate can contain all namespaces which are used for all internal URL and External URL configuration in Exchange services. About how to import an existing wildcard certificate on the Exchange 2010 Hybird servers,

    If you have warranty and proper invoice, they you should not worry about your faulty hard disk. First you must make sure the hard disk problem with local technical person and then raise up complaint to replace the product.

    I am interested in that game as well. I have not succeeded (nor tried very hard) to get games to work on my Apple. I received a reply to a ? similar to this by posting to the Parallels forum. I was told that Parallels supports DirectX 8.1. However, someone else posted that they loaded v. 9.0. Carbon requires v. 9.0.   • I wish to get AppleCare Protection Plan and my Warranty expired a few days ago.

    I got my iPod touch on 12th november 2011 as a prize in a Quiz Competetion. A few days ago I called apple customer support and they say my warranty is expired... According to them, the warranty started in February 2011 and has expired. I wish to get AppleCare Protection Plan and a customer support executive told me over the phone that I would get it but I got no follow up call. My Apple Support /case number is 292089289
    I have got a dead pixel on my iPod and I wish to get it replaced. I hope something can be done.

    Check your warranty here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do .  If it truly as expired, there is nothing you can do ablut it.  You ca no longer extend the warranty.  Otherwise people would wait to see if their iPod needed service beforing buying the coverage.

    It looks as though the Mac has a global warranty.  Take a look at Applecare Protection Plan for Mac or Apple Display for full details.
    It likely depends on the availability of Apple stores or authorised repair agencies in the country you will be in.

    I have an iPhone 5S since day one of launch (september 20th 2013) and I want to purchase an Apple Care Protection Plan for it.
    As I remember it's possible to purchase it as long as the 1-year-warranty is running, so my time is limited :-)
    It seems as if the "old" Protection Plan doesn't exist anymore, there's only AppleCare+ for purchase.
    My problem is that AppleCare+ can only be purchased 30 days after the purchase of a new iPhone.
    Am I still able to get the "old" Protection Plan with the same conditions or is there no chance?

    Call Apple care in your country they should advise you if you can purchase as you seem to have fallen between the two Plans if AppleCare+ was announced in your Country after the date you purchased your iPhone 5S

    It won't void your warranty if you have a Apple Genius do it or even if you do it yourself. It's considered a user replaceable item. It's perfectly acceptable to do it yourself. Of course if you damage something while doing it then that's another matter but short of some errant static charge there's not much you could do while doing it yourself. Simple as pie.
    They even give you a PDF Manual to do it. Of course they don't include taking the four screws out of the bracket of the old drive and putting the bracket on the new one.
    As for your video card? No you're stuck with what you got.
    Have no idea on when it starts. I would assume if it took more than a week to receive one I'd be contacting someone and asking for sure but in most cases it's not going to matter within a couple of days over the course of three years.
