Warrenty voided????

Hello,
When I first recieved this ibook G4 It had a dead pixel on the screen. I was told (ininitally) that they WOULD repair it. Now I only have a few months left on it till I can have it done. here is the problem, I had the tip of the power supply come off inside the mac. As it was late at night and I needed it right away, I opened it up and removed the broken piece. NOTHING WAS MODIFIED!!! I took it down to the local apple store and they said that since it had been opened i voided the warrenty. I had a ibook in the past that was experencing MAJOR problems and the only way I could get my information off the hard drive was to open it up and attach the hard drive to a main computer and get itg that way, and apple said that they would still honor it. However this time they didnt. And now I have this dead pixel which they said well its just one dead pixel and wont bother with it at all now. SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO!!!!!

Opening the machine in and of itself doesn't void the warranty. But: Telling Apple that you opened the machine gives Apple the opportunity to tell you that your warranty has been voided. If you break something while the machine is open, then you are responsible for the damage you cause. If you caused no damage, then there is no cause not to honor your warranty. From the one-year limited warranty:
This warranty does not apply: (a) to damage caused by use with non-Apple products; (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes; (c) to damage caused by operating the product outside the permitted or intended uses described by Apple; (d) to damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider; (e) to a product or part that has been modified to significantly alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Apple; (f) to consumable parts, such as batteries, unless damage has occurred due to a defect in materials or workmanship; or (g) if any Apple serial number has been removed or defaced.
If you did not cause any damage as a result of opening your machine and noodling around in there, then your warranty should still be in effect. (And besides, opening the machine to get a broken plug out of the AC port shouldn't kill pixels on the display.)
That said, JDee is absolutely correct to point out that a single "dead" pixel is not warrantable, no matter what you were told, and it is highly unlikely that anyone from Apple would tell you otherwise. If you had a "dead" pixel straight out of the box, it still would not be cause to replace your display (screen). That's not to say that someone may not have taken it upon themselves to help you out with this at the time you discovered this problem, but in my experience, that would still be highly unlikely to happen.
The best thing to do, when you have a warrantable problem, is to take the machine into the shop and explain the problem. Dispense with giving out extra information. When your machine is examined, the techs will be able to see if there is any user-caused damage, and that will be when they will decide to what extent your warranty is invalidated.
Good luck!

  • Another Customer Service Compla

Hi, and thank you for reading this message.
I've experienced bad customer service from Creative and feel it necessary to add to the other warnings posed in this forum. The basic theme is the same: Creative seems to take deliberate steps to make receiving support (especially warranty service) very difficult.
Specific ways I have experienced this apparent discouragement from utilizing support are:
-- Creative uses fees to discourage legitimate telephone support. I am still in my warranty period with my Zen Micro, but I had to pay $5USD to use the telephone to get an RMA for repair. By the way, it was a toll call: the "toll-free" line is not for customer service.
-- Once I had navigated the telephone system and waited a long time for the "next available representati've," he was surly and acti'vely sought to get me to use email support instead. Even after explaining that it was my preference as a customer to use phone support and that I was willing to pay a fee that I disagreed with to do so, he persisted.
-- Creative does not provide postage for shipping a defecti've item in for service. Admittedly, I've only required warranty service from a handful of companies, but this is the first time I've had to pay to have a manufacturer correct its mistakes.
-- Creative is now trying to get me to pay $25USD to have the diagnose the problem with my Zen Micro. Remember, this is after having paid $5USD to have a reluctant technician step through a diagnostic procedure with me over the phone.
If you are considering making a Creative Labs purchase, please consider whether you can tolerate similar headaches with warranty service. My personal advice is to choose another vendor.

  • Recovery iso for Ideapad Flex14

I am working on an ideapad flex14.  The hard disk is encrypted, I know the password.  It has been encrypted by Diskcryptor.  I dont want to take the laptop appart to access the hard disk (and slave into another windows computer with discryptor installed) as its a brand new laptop and I dont want to make the warrenty void.
The boot cd iso that diskcryptor has on their site blue screens (presumably as its a hirens xp disk and there is a driver issue).
I was wondering if there is a recovery iso or cd that I can use to get the laptop back into a working state.  Obviously if you try to get into the recovery area of the laptop it doesnt know what to do with it.

AH! You did not mention that. I am glad you were able to fix your issue.
About recovery Discs for other computers, you have to be able to make a recovery discs for all of them. Either that or the manufacturer has to provide you with recovery media. That is law. But they only have to allow you to make the recovery discs one time. Each manufacturer has their own procedure for creating the media. You will have to find the instructions for each one.
Also I believe that all the manufacturers will also sell you a set of recovery media. For Lenovo you call the Service Center. I think the costs cover the shipping and handling and the cost physical media.

  • Battery will not hold a charge

My ipad 3 will not hold a charge on the battery, it has been pluged into the wall, using the provided wall charger, since noon. Now, it is 5pm and the battery is only around 40%. The iPad is still under the 1 year warrenty. Will apple replace the battery if the digitizer screen is broken? (it has a slight crack) Or is my warrenty void?

You will need to take the iPad to Apple, the screen and battery are two different problems, but they could be related.  Apple will need to make that determination.  It will be very difficult to replace your battery without breaking the digitizer if it has a small crack.

  • Earphone plugging in making mba slow

Well, this is really tricky here.
I have this mac 2013 model and I poured some water onto the keyboard 2 months ago. Basically the warrenty void and I took it to the repair shop and got it repaired. They told me that the ic power on the motherboard, wifi, keyboard and trackpad were repaired and it worked perfectly fine ever since.
However, a month later, the computer got some weird problems. It got really slow after I plug in the earphone; it made no noise and the volume controll reacted slowly after pressing the keys; the fan was like crazy and made loud noise. I restarted the computer and it worked fine, but plugging in the earphone it happened again; this time volume control stopped working. After I tried it for the third time. The computer acted slow even if restarted and the audio device disappeared completely.
So I took it for repair again and the guy told me that they plugged in every cable on the motherboard and it worked fine again and they don't know why. I took it home and after two weeks, it happened again after I plugged in the earphone. I was so disappointed.
My boyfriend asked me if it was due to the earphone as I was using the same earphone all the time. He tried it on his computer and caused a bit of some problems (mbp), itunes popped in and started to play and stop and play. He said the remote control was faulty. However I have been using it on my iphone 5 and it worked perfectly. I tried another earphone and volume control reacted slowlly after pressing the keys and I quickly unplugged. So I am not sure if it was due to my old faulty earphone.
Anyone can tell me what is the problem here? I know it may be due to the water damage previously, but any experts know some details?

It is better to take the computer to the nearest Apple store to have the computer checked out.
Liquid damage to computer parts is progressive.
As time goes by, more and more problems will crop up.

  • I have iphone 4 but not purchase that  from airtel or aircel in india does that void my apple warrenty

i have iphone 4 but not purchase that  from airtel or aircel in india does that void my apple warrenty, i have purchase from grey market

Only iPhones sold by authorized resellers in India will be serviced by Airtel or Aircel. If you purchased from an unauthorized source, it's quite possible that the iPhone came from some other country, and would be serviced only in that country. Discovering what country the iPhone was originally sold it will be quite difficult unless the place you purchased it from can tell you.
So in practical terrms, it's probable that you have no warranty.

  • Leopard  windows? virtualization?  --bootcamp void warrenty?

    hey there.
so im going to install windows on my imac
(gets here wednesday) via bootcamp, will this void
the warrenty? i understand its 'not supported'
but im under the impression that if it wipes my hard
drive im on my own, but they will fix my imac if
the fan driver is bad and it cooks; or something along the same lines.
when using bootcamp are hardware malfunctions still covered
    by warrenty?
itd be nice to know installing this on a 1700 dollar piece of machinery.
and, i hear theres going to be built in support for windows
in leopard. i think (and hope) they will inlude some professional quality virtualization software, so
theres no rebooting, also eliminating microsoft from the picture.
    what are your thoughts?
has anything been released on leopard?
looks like vista is copying alot off of tiger,
which is a 5 year old OS, so ill bet leopard will blow away vista (big surprise).
    -troy

i've installed windows using boot camp already.. a few things i hate abt it.. first of all it is not able to sense my in built isight camera.. there was once when it seemed like it could finally sense it, then when i rebooted it was gone again. i have no idea why.. also, sometimes my keyboard juz dies out on windows.. i have to unplug and replug it again before im able to continue using it which is quite troublesome.. Other than that, im quite happy with windows on my mac

  • If I replace my Ipod touch 4th gen screen with a local company other than Apple will the apple warrenty be void or will the warrenty be void if I replace the screen myself?

If I replace my Ipod touch 4th gen screen with a local company other then Apple will the Apple warrenty be void or will the warrenty be void if I replace the screen myself?

Regardless of what Apple may or may not say about repair work done by a third party (a non-Apple company or you yourself), the Magnuson-Moss Act precludes them from voiding your warranty simply because you had work done by a third party or used non-OEM parts.  Typically people hear of thie Act as it is applied to cars. Car manufacturers cannot require you go to a dealership for repairs or that you use OEM parts. They cannot void your warranty for doing that. The Act applies to all consumer goods. Computer manufacturers cannot require you send your computer to them for memory upgrades or that you use memory supplied by them. Apple cannot require you to go to Apple for repair work or that you use Apple parts in that repair.
With that said, though, if you have a problem in the future, Apple could make the claim that it was the result of damage from improper repair or substandard parts. Your only recourse would be the court system, not a quick or inexpensive endeavor.

  • Will D.O.T void you warrenty with msi

I went thought msi web site and have looked thought the form and could find nothing on wheater are not using D.O.T will kill ur warrnty i dont plan on doing anything extrem it just i like to know i have a little ley way with it at max i would use the number 3 (caption) setting. My last video card was a Gainward Golden Sample which was guernnted to over clock and keep the warrenty so i was not sure if the same would hold true for msi :D thanks guys for the help in addvance

Although D.O.T. is more safe and stable than manually overclocking, risks are still involved. We suggest you that you first make sure your graphics card can handle overclocking. If you find some abnormal phenomenons while playing 3D games after enabling D.O.T., such as broken images, we recommend you to either stop D.O.T or to lower the level of D.O.T.
If you prefer to overclock manually, you must disable D.O.T. first. We cannot gurantee that every graphics card can be overclocked to the Commander level.
As far as I know D.O.T does not void your warranty, I remember seeing it in my NX6800 GT and 875P NEO FISR instruction books somewhere, and if you are only going to mildly O/C there shouldn't be a problem

Secondly, is it ok to do it myself or will I need to get an Apple Genius to do it? If so, what are the costs involved?
    Thanks All

Apple provides instructions for users to replace the hard drive themselves. So, installing "user installable parts" will not void your warranty. However, any repairs to damage that may occur by installing the drive yourself won't be covered.
The Mac Genius at an Apple retail store will NOT install third party hardware into your MacBook. They will install anything they sell in the store for you. But, since Apple does not sell bare hard drives, they won't do the install for you. Another Apple Authorized Service Provider probably will install the drive for you, for a fee.

  • Scratched Up Brand New iPod(less than 24 hrs) Under warrenty?

I have had my black 30G for 23.5 hours as of this post, I have moved after removing it from the box, once. I moved it in the apple issued case then in the breast pocket of my jacket, only other place its been is in my hand and my hands are not that dry. Its now completely scratched up, I am amazed at how much scratching has already occured. I am wondering A if Apple will replace it under warrenty, B if I should bother or is this just a 5G defect and what ever they replace it with will be the same way, C if anybody has used any third party scratch remover that works and wont damage the iPod /void the warrenty? Also any hints on maximizing battery life / why is it showing full charge after only 20mins of charging?

Unfortunately scratches aren't considered a defect.
If the click wheel stopped working or the screen went bad, then that's covered under warranty. But scratches, unfortunately aren't. I would do a search. There have been a few people with success with scratch removers.
The iPod comes partially charged. There's also that fast chargering, and a full charge.
