Hi,
I have started a little project, iBook Generator, to easily create all sorts of html widgets, ready to use in iBooks Author.
Currently, you can create a widget to embed Youtube or Vimeo videos in one click, but I'm working on a lot more generator.

Not sure if I can do this but I would like to see a widget to jump from one section or chapter to another section or chapter in the book. The widge would be a button or image button.

Creating html widget to access websites from an iBook

For the book I'm creating, it is essential for readers to be able to access discussion areas that take place on external websites. So far, in Dashcode, I've only been able to succeed in creating web application widgets that do this, while the dashboard widgets don't work within the iBook preview.
I created a button and assigned a handler that says:

How has anyone else accomplished this task? I've seen conflicting reports suggesting whether it is even possible.

Yes, I realize it is possible to use the "insert hyperlink" commands, but I was hoping to pass login credentials by way of a widget. For now, I appreciate your suggestion and will use that method (and providing generic login information right there in the text as well). It would be wonderful to be able to provide links to various LMS or CMS platforms that schools already use, to extend the iBook functionality. Utlimately that's my goal.

What video format is supported when creating a HTML widget?

It doesn't support mp4, m4v amd mov. I tried video/mp4, video/m4v and video/quicktime, they don't work. Anything wrong with the following code. Pls help. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip, Rycankun. I just tried changing my m4v ext to mp4 and the video worked just great in an HTML widget with a HTML5 video tag. The video opens in a new page the same way any html widget does with the video centered on the page -- just what we were looking for.
I commented on your other post about HTML widget and left some additional info on encoding videos so I thought I'd paste that same info here as it's more relevant to this thread:
A few thoughts about encoding -- we started out using the documented Quicktime 10 > Export > Format iPod touch & iPhone 3GS but there's no control over the video/audio compression settings. We then went to Compressor and used a modified version of the SD or HD preset for Apple devices - had more control but still weren't able to get the files as small as we needed at the quality we desired. We finally have settled on using Handbrake to create our mp4 using the iPhone & iPod Touch preset and adjusting the Constant bitrate RF value and audio settings to get the quality we desired. The resulting mp4 is not directly useable in iBA but it's easy to convert the mp4 container to a m4v contrainer using Subler (for Mac) to transcode to Main @ 3.1 profile. Transcoding with Subler doesn't re-encode the video or audio - those tracks just pass through and Subler converts the movie container to the selected Main @ 3.1 profile. There's probably a way to create the m4v directly from Handbrake with Main @ 3.1 profile but so far the closest I've gotten is Baseline @ 3. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I want to create an external video widget with iAd. I followed the steps and copied the Url and paste it in the Video pop-up menu in the Properties section of the inspector. When i select 'preview' the video doesn't play and the Url that i pasted is gone.

May have something to do with whether or not the URL can be reached while building your widget. I've got a video on the web. When I enter the URL into the field for the video object and click to another field, the URL is replaced with some text indicating that it is accessing the video then updates itself to displaying just the name of the video file.
It shows just fine in preview and I can see the full path to the video when I export the widget so it should work for you.
Is the video accessible from your Mac while you're laying out your widget?

Html Widget to compensate for lost Google Maps

The html widget works BUT, whenever the map is touched to move or view larger = apppearance of full html code over the map . . .

I dont' fully understand, but you are absolutely correct and I am grateful in the extreme.
I hope I might be able call upon you for a few questions if they come up and I am unable to research and resolve them myself. The site will be for my wife - a physician, and so the site will need to elegant in its simplicity; no 64pt fonts in bold mixed colors, no wiggles or jiggles, or sound. Easy on the eyes. Accessible to the mind.

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Also try publishing the site to a folder on your hard drive and use the free FTP client Cyberduck to upload your site. It's been known to work when iWeb's ftp client has failed.

Video in html widget

hi,
I embed a vimeo video in a html widget with an iframe and it worked fine in ios 5, but now than I have upgrade to ios 6 the widget can't play as well. when widescreen is clicked it can't be correctly closed.
has someone noted this or it's my code that is wrong ?

I have test it with preview and share and also rebuild the widget in another page
the widget opens, runs the video and can be correctly closed but if widscreen is clicked the video continues to run after close and the status bar in page disapears

IBooks HTML Widget Warning

I've created a series of HTML Widgets using Hype and iAd Producer for my iBooks. However, on trying to upload it to iTunes Bookstore I received this message: WARNING ITMS-9006: "Study_it_2.ibooks : data-anchor-ref = danchor-gallery-0" at Book (MZitmspBookPackage)
I'm not sure what this means and would love some clarification. Please note that the book has been approved (so far), and the name of the book is Study it 2.

My book also have a Hype 2 widget and one Gallery Widget (and several video widgets)
I can´t see so far the book on iTunes Connect. There was a 1 GB upload.
Update: The Book is on iTunes Connect, so the warning should not be so important as to block the book.

Creating dynamic widgets

We have a question on how to create something similar to a dynamic arrayfield
without mapping to an array.
We would like the similar behavior of an HTML table with ability to add rows
and columns with values.
We have looked at using ActiveX but are not happy with the way Forte interacts
with these widgets, so we are looking for a Tool
solution. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I've been trying for a while to get the ArrayField working, but it seems to
be designed for mapping onto objects that exist at runtime. Dynamic
adjustment of the number of colums in the ArrayField just doesn't seem to
work. So far the only solution i've found is creating a GridField and
filling it with DataFields. You'd have to add you're own code for the
scrollbar and implement the scrolling. As far as i've found out there is no
other usable Tool solution. I can't give you any examples cause this is
where i stopped looking into it. Good luck.

How do I create and insert an HTML 5 video into a web page.

Why do I get a white screen in a HTML widget once it has loaded?

I have created some HTML which works fine in Safari but as soon as I make it a widget it loads fine with the Default image on screen and then it just goes white with nothing more than a x in the top left corner. Any ideas what I a might be doing wrong. I have an info.plist directing to the html, a Default.png which works as it appears as loading but the page just will not display.
Any ideas very welcome.

Without seeing exactly what you have, troubleshooting is difficult.
You could try here iBooks Author: About HTML widget creation for more guidance. I became unstuck once when I made some HTML in Dreamweaver, but forgot to set the Doctype as the HTML5 one.

Creating a widget for iBooks Author

This seems to be an issue in iBooks Author but thought I'd see if anyone here had an idea.
I'm a noob, trying to take an iPad app I previously created and turn it into an iBook. On this page, Goldilocks takes a taste of porridge and makes a face as its too cold. I've successfully created the animation of GL raising the spoon to her mouth, making a face and then returning the spoon to the bowl. I then added the widget to the page in iBooks Author but when I "touch" to play the animation, the widget opens in it's own window and plays. But I don't want it to play in a window... I want it to play in place on top of the background.
This is what the background image looks like (only without GL). GL is a widget I created using Edge Animate.
The goal is to allow the user to tap GL and play the widget I've created of her tasting the porride (here's one of the keyframes from the animation)
But like I said, when I tap GL it opens in a window. Any ideas?
Adobe Animate Edge is so cool and I have a bunch of great ideas if I can get this to work... So hoping someone has an idea. (Oh, and bonus points, can I add an mp3 file to Edge and have it play, "Yuck, this is too cold!" Haven't had a chance to try but that would be awesome!)

Unluckily this is the default and the only behavior of the Html Widget in Iba: it can only run in a window....
About the mp3 file, you have first to convert it in a format directly supported by Iba, like .m4a. Then, you have to insert this code:
   var track = new Audio(); // declare and initialize a new audio() (Html5) variable called track
        track.src = "media/track1.m4a"; // define the source of your audio variable: "track.m4a" is the name of your audio file
        track.volume = 0.5; // set the volume of your track
Now you can recall and play/pause your track like this:
track.play();
track.pause();
The code can be inserted on event "click" on the Div you want the user clicks to play the sound!

how to set a custom close / exit button in a HTML widget for iBooks Author? I want to replace or hide the standard button in the top left corner.
I already tried some JavaScript but nothing seems to work so far. Where can this button be modified or disabled and how to create a custom one?
