Webcam compatability

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get my webcam working with the latest versions of skype? I am using an HP EliteBook with built in HP HD webcam. Skype 6.7 is not recognising the webcam, so I reloaded version 6.5 and that didn't either, so I have gone back to version 5.10 and it works perfectly. How can I get the newer versions to recognise the webcam? Thanks.

You don't need to utilize that old a version to resolve your problem.  You have mainly two options:
1.  Try 3rd party software like manycam (manycam.com).  See if your camera works in the manycam software.  If it does, select the manycam virtual driver in Skype and see if your camera still operates with the latest release.  If you go this route be sure to do a custom install to install only the main program.
2.  Your other option would be to revert/downgrade to the Skype Special version (for webcam issues) which is newer than the 5.x release you are using.

  • Webcam compatability with XP Media Centre Edition 2005

Can anyone tell me which webcams are compatable with XP Media Centre Edition 2005.

Media Centre Edition is laid out so that it is really simple
and easy to play videos and listen to music. I would stick with XP
as it works and isn't anywhere near as hungry as Vista.

  • MacBook Pro's built-in webcam compatibility with other websites?

Okay, excuse this seemingly vain and unimportant question, but I just got my MacBook Pro today and am so lost. Anyway, I was looking to take pictures with the built in webcam, just not necessarily in Photo Booth. I frequently use facebook and dailybooth.com
I tried using dailybooth and the area where you can usually see yourself was completely black and offered no options for like selecting a webcam. Taking a display picture on facebook said I needed to download flash player. Which I did. But now it continuously still tells me to download flash player.
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone who uses a MacBook pro uses their webcam to take pictures of themselves (vain sounding I know!) on other websites and if you can tell me how.
    Thanks!

You can use Photobooth as a go between. Most such websites, including Facebook will load pictures off your computer. Photobooth allows you to drag pictures from its capture bottom bar onto the desktop for reuse elsewhere on your computer.

  • Mac mini 2.16 and Dell SX2210 webcam compatibility?

My dell SX2210 displays well with mac mini 2.16 gig , but won't recognize the SX2210 built-in webcam or microphones. Does anyone know of a driver or method that would remedy this?

I have a Dell SP2208WPF monitor and a Mac Mini (vintage April 2009). The Dell owners manual tells me that when I install the disc "Webcam Resourcee CD" something called Install Shield Wizard should appear on my screen and the rest is easy/automatic. I get three icons: AUTORUN.INF, DISK.ID and a folder called Webcam, none of which seems to contain the Install Shield Wizard. I have USB A to B cable installed (though it is a very thin retractable one). Any idea how get the installer to appear? Any other ideas what I am doing wrong?

  • USB webcam compatibility?

so I have a Logitech Ultra Vision and I was wondering if I could use it in Quicktime or Quicktime Pro. There is no software or drivers available for it because Logitech utilizes the internal drivers that come on Macs. It works fine with chatting software, but I was just wondering if there was more I could do with it.

Why not contact Logitech's customer service/tech support to confirm? If they say yes, then have them provide you w/detailed instructions.
Or try the webcam w/QuickTime or PRO (whichever one you have) & see if it works yourself.

  • Logitech webcam compatibility

    Hi all,
I got a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 last year and had been using it fine for a few months, but for some reason, something has stopped cooperating. I have uninstalled the driver and all possibly related files, but upon reinstallation, the same problem is occurring. The problem is, the second I plug in the webcam, the computer freezes up, absolutely nothing works, until I unplug it, at which point everything works fine again.
To double check that it was not the camera, it I tried it out on my brother's iBook G4 (also running 10.4.3) and had no issues. For some reason it is just my computer that won't accept it. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be?? I'm on the verge of reinstalling Tiger, or even going back to Panther, in which it originally worked (though it has been successful in Tiger in the past), but it would just be a huge hassle to do that as I'd have to back-up and then reinstall gigabytes worth of files and applications.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions. Create another User account, log in on that account and connect the webcam - if it freezes up, the problem lies deeper than User account issues. Beyond that point, an Archive and reinstall of Tiger would be the next step.

  • Freetalk webcam works on Panasonic 2010 version (V...

According to Panasonic support website, the freetalk camera is released also with older Panasonic 2010 version (VT20)
while according to skype shop it works only with the Panasonic 2011 version (VT30)
    Who is right ?

The skype shop is promoting the sale of the Panasonic Blu ray player (BDT110) and Freetalb webcam as compatable components with eachother to be used with Skype, however the video does not trasmit from the webcam (i.e. only audio) so video calls are not possible. I recommend that Skype contact its Freetalk partner to troubleshoot these issues (i.e. webcam compatability with Panasonic tvs and blu ray players) because the claims made on the Skype Shop pertaining to the functionallity are not entirely accurate.

  • Web Camera compatible with Mac mini

Could someone recommend a web camera that is compatible with the Mac mini. I bought a Dynex DX-DTCAM that said it works with Mac's but it doesn't. Any help is much appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You might find the (brief) thread at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1144969&tstart=0 of some interest in terms of webcam compatibility as a whole.
Not sure about the Dynex you have - it is certainly claimed to be MacOS X compatible, though not exactly which version(s) of MacOS X it works with. Assuming you've installed the drivers with the cam from the CD it came with, you might look at t http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-459-10-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx to see if the Windows and Mac driver download on that page offers a later driver for Macs. The 'readme' file is dated June 2007 and it claims it's for MacOS 10.3 and later.

  • Leopard on upgraded G4

Hi all, at the moment I have a Powermac G4 400 sawtooth and am running 10.5 installed using the firewire target method. Ive finally taken the plunge and ordered a Powerlogix 1.6 processor upgrade and because I need to run 10.5 server and it really wont be worth it without upgrading.
What I wanted to know is will the leopard installer still refuse to install normally even with a processor upgrade?
    Thanks Nick

    Hi kdjc95-
The PSU was the last internal mod that I did. The stock PSU was working fine with the processor upgrade, the 9800, the two SATA's, an ATA drive, and the USB. The problem was heat.
The extra heat was mostly going through the PSU on the way out (Arctic Cooling VGA cooler helped some), and in the summer, under hard game load, lengthy software install's (CS2 premium),and video rendering, the system would occasionally freeze. I traced this to heat by running the same tasks that froze the machine, while the side was opened. This corrected the problem.
So, heat was causing the PSU to heat up beyond the point of producing reliable power. Since I had already increased the CFM's of the interior fans, and had hard drive coolers, and the graphics cooler, the only thing I could do was get rid of more heat before it went through the PSU. So, I tore the tower down, cut a hole and put a 80mm fan in the top of the tower, creating a blow hole. Well, I never did try the machine with the new cooling configuration. Since it was all torn down, I figured, what the heck, and put a dual fan ATX PSU in. This was partially driven by the desire to do a few more mod's to the machine (using yet more power).
The new PSU, with the dual fans, moves more air than the stock PSU, and with the other cooling mod's, the freezes, even in a 30ºC room, ceased. A side benefit of the PSU's increased power (which I hadn't anticipated), was an increase in xBench scores by 3-5 points.
If you aren't experiencing unexplained system freezes, then the new PSU isn't mandatory. If you have freezing problems, with no other possible causes, the new PSU would be worth the hassle. I say hassle, because the ATX PSU wiring harnesses aren't designed to work in the G4 tower as cleanly as one might like. I hate wire clutter, and spent two days cutting, extending, shortening, completely rebuilding the wiring harnesses, sheathing and bundling them.
As for Leopard, it runs great. The only problems are ones that everyone else experiences- jerky dock, some hardware/software incompatibilities, occasional unexplained and erratic sleep problems, and Time Machine and it's limited practical function (my opinion, shared by others). All in all, it's fine, with no real hits because it's in a G4. I'm looking forward to the eventual 10.5.5, or so. By then, Leopard should be polished up like fine laquerware! 'til then, we're still "beta tester's".
Honestly, though, I like Tiger better......just want Leopards Front Row and USB webcam compatibility/performance boost in Tiger.

  • Webcam? Windows XP to MacBook Pro compatibility?

I use the video chat feature on my MacBook Pro with Mac friends, but now family members who use Windows XP want to buy a webcam to chat with me. Is there a compatibility issue with webcams between Windows XP and MacBook Pro? What type of webcam and/or software should I recommend they purchase? Thanks.

They can get a Logitech webcam. To video chat with them, I suggest you both use Skype. They can even buy a webcam through the Skype store.

  • How do I use my gigaware webcam with my mac?

How do I use my gigaware webcam with my mac? I just bought this webcam on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJE0ISS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF 8&psc=1 and I want to use it with my mac. Is there an adapter or any software to make it compatible? Thanks.

Your amazon link states, in part, that this webcam is:
Compatible with Microsoft Windows 7,Vista, XP, 2000
Use a Mac OS X Compatible Webcam like one of those shown in the linked article instead.
For best compatibility and security, also update your OS X Mavericks (10.9.2) to the current OS X version by restarting Mac and then downloading and installing OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).

  • Creative webcam dell studio 17 problems with creative zen

hi there, ive got a dell studio 17 with a built in webcam.
When i try to install the drivers for the creative zen, and put the disk in, a message comes up saying 'we could not find the driver software for your device'
then windows trys to solve the problem and comes up with a message saying 'this problem was caused by a compatibility issue between this version of windows and yor webcam which was made by creative' 'go online to download and install the update for your webcam'
however i try the website they gave me, which is the creative support page, but i cant find a built in webcam for the dell studio 17
i was just wondering whether the answer is right in front of my eyes, or if anyone else had this problem

    Hello MichelleStudio!
The only thing that comes to mind to help you out here is to try to visit Dell's support website and update your hardware drivers and/or firmware.  To get to your model's specific downloads click on "Drivers & Downloads" and choose the Service Tag option.  It asks you for your Service Tag which is on the bottom of your laptop.  Then it will bring you to a list of available downloads.
Make sure the operating system is set to Windows Vista 64-bit, as this is what your laptop came with.  The important ones to update are BIOS and Chipset.  But since I don't know specifically what is causing your problem, it's kind of a guessing game.
This is assuming you can get your laptop to boot up long enough to perform these updates.  You said that the error said something about a driver, so hopefully updating your hardware drivers and firmware help.
Hope this helps, thank you for posting!

  • Webcam being used by another program/Other Person ...

Okay, here's the problem. I just bought a new windows 7 PC and it came preinstaled with Skype. I tested the webcam and everything seemed fine. Then we got a video call from someone that uses an ipod and the video wouldn't work. I looked and it said that my webcam could not be used because another program must be using it. Only thing is, NO OTHER PROGRAMS ARE RUNNING. Not even Explorer or Firefox.
So I decided to do some testing. First I tried downloading it on my Android phone to make sure it wasn't related to an iphone/ipod problem, still doesn't work. Then I double checked to make sure my drivers and software were all updated. Everything is up to date. Then I disabled auto-sign-in on startup in case skype was loading before my webcam driver was, still nothing. Then I tried running in compatability mode for windows xp, Skype freezes and wont even start. Now I'm officially out of ideas
So to sum it up. When I start skype, and go to video, my webcam will work, but as soon as someone tries calling, they can't see any video. I'll list all my stats below. This is very frustrating because this is the same webcam that I was using on an older computer that recently gave me problems, so I bought an entirely new computer and it works great, but now skype won't work. Why can't this stuff ever be simple?
    Windows 7 64bit.
    AMD DUAL CORE 1.3ghz processor
    4 GB of RAM
    Skype 5.9
    Webcam Logitech c110
Webcam is designed to work with windows 7
Webcam software and drivers are all up-to-date
Webcam worked with Skype on windows XP just a week ago
Webcam works with other programs NONE OF WHICH are ever running in the background. Double, no Tripled checked. No messenger, Oovoo, Explorer, Firefox, Yahoo, or anything.
Does anyone have ANY ideas? This is really important to me. We recently moved out of state and this is the only way we can see my family. Thank you in advance for any help.

I am also having the same subject problem.  When I go to Tools->Options->Video settings the video stream is OK.  So what interfering software is running during a video call that is not running when I check the video settings?  I have included some thoughts and observations below.
My webcam device name in Windows is:  USB Video Device.  The OS is Windows XP Pro SP3.  SKYPE version is 5.9.0.115.  Webcam is Logitech C210 and I am using the Microsoft USB video device driver, not the Logitech drivers. I have uninstalled the other Logitech software a long time ago.
When I open My Computer in Windows and click on “USB Video Device” the  USB Video Device window opens with webcam preview video displayed as long as no other programs are using the webcam.  If SKYPE is running and producing video (Tools->Options->Video settings), instead of good video displayed on the USB Video Device window I get the Windows video error message shown below.
    Windows video error message:
    window title: Video Preview Failure.
“Creation of the video preview failed.
Please check the device connection and make sure that the device is not being used by another application or user.”
Similarly, If I start SKYPE (Tools->Options->Video settings)with no other programs running that use the webcam I get good video.   However, if I start the Windows USB Video Device preview video before I start the SKYPE video, I get the SKYPE video error  message shown below that indicates that SKYPE can’t start the video.
    SKYPE video error  message:
Black window with white exclamation point in red circle.
“Can’t start video.  Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam.”
While this little experiment is completely expected, I have been getting the SKYPE video error  message when I try to make video calls.  Just before the call, Tools->Options->Video settings results in a good, solid video stream.  During the call I can see and hear my contact but my contact can only hear me.  The SKYPE video error  message appears.  The webcam icon shows a red diagonal line through it.  My contact can very briefly see me when I click on the webcam icon temporarily removing the red diagonal line.  But then SKYPE returns to the error state.
As far as I could tell no other applications were running that could conflict with SKYPE and result in this error condition!  Does anyone have any additional suggestions for identifying the interfering  software or application?  Or is there some other reason this particular SKYPE video error message occurs?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
P.S.:  It’s too bad the SKYPE program can’t provide some diagnostic clue to help the user identify the offending application software.

  • Installing Webcam Live! on Windows Vista x64

This will inform all of the poor consumers who bought a camera shortly before vista was released, only to realize that the camera would not work with thier operating system that they would soon update too. I was very frustrated trying to get my "Webcam Live!" to work with windows vista ultimate 64 bit edition so i did some trial and error, trying basically every driver on the site.
step 1: be sure that your camera is unplugged, and you dont have any remnants of other drivers on your system, and download the driver for Windows XP Professional 64 bit located here?http://us.creative.com/support/downl...type=0&x=9&y=7
Step 2: right click the setup?icon and click properties
Step 3: click the "compatibility" tab click "run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP (Service pack 2)
Step 4: right click the setup icon and choose "run this program as administrator" proceed with setup. The setup may get hung up, but as long as it gets to 100% before freezing you should still be okay.
Step 5: Plug your camera in?Step6: Open your device driver. In my case the driver installed correctly and that was the last step. you may have to manually install the driver by clicking on the device, clicking update driver, and then point the computer to where it was installed to. this was very frustrating for me to figure out and took me about 2 hours. i hope i saved you some time, good luck.
