My Pavilion zd 7379ea will only start up in battery mode. AC adapter appears OK with a firm green LED, so external power supply may not be the issue here? When I'm starting up (with what's left on the battery), both the charging LED and the AC LED are constantly blinking. When turned off, the battery LED is firm, and battery appears to be charging (but which obviously is not the case).  Occasionally, when computer is turned off, the AC LED is lit with a firm light.
One odd thing I noted before this happened was that the computer ran on AC only when my HP printer was connected to one of the USB ports (no battery inserted). If I disconnected the printer USB cord, the computer just died immediately; it was like the computer was powered by the printer. Later I also discovered that the same cord (where it connected to the printer) had melted from extreme overheating. I tried to update the USB drivers for each port but it didn't change things. I also tried to connect a different printer to get the computer started but it didn't work this time. I'd be extremely grateful for any comments that may solve this power supply issue (and if possible explain the stuff with the printer connection).

You unplugged a USB device while the notebook was still booted into Windows and on?
Normally that won't cause any issues but , If you did that you may have damaged your  system board's Southport chip.
USB is not a plug n' play port like SATA  and eSATA are.
Here is a link to the maintenence manual for your laptop series.
Is your notebook still within warranty? By the processor components listed in the manual,I believe it is probably not.

    Hi:
You need to load the SATA ACHI drivers into a copy of your XP installation disk by slipstreaming them, or you need to load the SATA ACHI drivers at the Windows XP installation F6 prompt.
See this guide below for how to do this:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-systems-and/SATA-drivers-for-XP-solution-on-0x000000...
An alternate method is to go into your system setup (BIOS) and change your drive controller setting from ACHI to IDE.
See the manual below, chapter 5, page 5 for where this setting is found. Device Configurations.
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01857379/c01857379.pdf
You will need to install the SATA ACHI drivers after you install Windows XP before you can change the BIOS setting back to  ACHI, or the notebook won't boot.

  • Dv6-1030us Webcam Problem

I have a dv6-1030us computer and it seems since I installed Vista Service Pack 2 the built in webcam works intermittently.  (I noticed the problem too long after I installed SP2, so I have no easy route back to SP1) Most of the time it simply doesn't work; when you open the HP MediaSmart webcam program, your hear the sound of a usb device unplugging and get an alert that the "Connection to the video device was lost".  If you check device manager the webcam still shows up as there and I don't see anything else missing.
Occasionally  - and I have not been able to reproduce a chain of actions that are repeatable to help solve the problem - the camera does work.  Probably less than 5% of the time.  I have called customer service and they said other people are reporting a similar problem, but I have yet to see anyone post.  I am wondering if I simply have a hardware failure with the camera.  I have updated all drivers and have the latest bios version f.24.  Any suggestions?

I've had this laptop for two years without a webcam problem. Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. My webcam stopped working. If I go into HP MediaSmart Webcam it shows an image for a few seconds and then it loses its connection. I can't get it to work in the latest version of Skype anymore. It's not even an option to choose from. The only option is a Cyberlink webcam filter that I've never noticed as an option before.  Any suggestions?

    Windows 7, 64 bit.
I have never been able to use my built-in webcam.  I have installed the latest Youcam drivers and still an error message - "No webcam detected, if you are using an integrated camera make sure that it is turned on".
I have also followed instructions on this website - I have gone to Device manager and "scan for hardware changes" but I never get an icon for "imaging" hardware.
I know the computer has the hardware as my parents have an IDENTICAL computer - bought from the same shop at the same time!
    Please help!

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix the issue.
    Fixing Webcam Problems in Windows
Testing a Webcam With MediaSmart in Windows
If both these links does not work then you might have to call HP Techincal support and get the part replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Below is the link to the quickspecs for your model.
According to the list on page 4, you are already at the max.

If you want to experiment, the Mobile Intel GME965 chipset your notebook has, can support up to the
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9500 (2.60 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB).
I read the BIOS release notes for your model and there are no versions that add support for other processors.
So... you can live with the status quo or roll the dice and see if one of these processors would work for you.

there should be a key to activate the camera. ( fn + something )
check your manual or take a look at the f keys for camera icon.

  • Compilation problem in 510

    Product=WLS510
    Revision=(Release Level)=510
    Problem Description=
    Hi,
So far my application is running with WebLogicServer 451. Now I want to
update it from 451 to 510. I have make file which compiles my classes. I
looked at the documentation and found the information to convert my
DeploymentDescriptor.txt into *.xml files. Upto this point everything is
    fine.
The problem started at the lever where I have THREE DeploymentDescriptor.txt
files under single folder. I followed the documentation instructions and
    tried to compile it.
The command I used in my make file is the following:
    java -classpath $(EJBPATH);$(BUILD_DIR) weblogic.ejb.utils.DDConverter -d
    $(BUILD_DIR)\$(XML_DIR) DeploymentDescriptor.txt DeploymentDescriptorL.txt
    DeploymentDescriptorG.txt
When I run the above command, I am getting the following error
    Usage: java weblogic.ejb.utils.DDConverter [options] oldDDFile
    where options include:
-d <targetDir> The target directory for the xml files.
So I tried providing all the Descriptor files separately as follows
    java -classpath $(EJBPATH);$(BUILD_DIR) weblogic.ejb.utils.DDConverter -d
    $(BUILD_DIR)\$(XML_DIR) DeploymentDescriptorL.txt
    java -classpath $(EJBPATH);$(BUILD_DIR)
    weblogic.ejb.utils.DDConverter -d $(BUILD_DIR)\$(XML_DIR)
    DeploymentDescriptorG.txt
This got compiled and created the ejbc.jar file.
Now the questions and doubts I have are:
    1. why the command of .......DDConverter [options] oldDDFile oldDDFile2...
    did not work.
    2. When I looked at *.xml files it has only the final bean descriptors but
the earlier descriptors. These *.xml are overridden. In that case how ejbc
compiler worked and created the all the skeletons and stubs. Why it did not
    throw any errors.
I am stuck at this point and need the help immediately.
Thanks in advance and looking forward for some suggestions
    Sirisha

I understand that of course, but I don't use any configuration file or set any special parameters in my computer.
What exactly does the compiler need in order to recognize the Java code in the JSP page? If i manually add the JAVA_HOME environment variable it will work?
