Webmail services as alternative to Thunderbird?

Are there any webmail providers that come to close to the functionality provided by Thunderbird? Here are my requirements:
- The ability to display a list of shared accounts/mailboxes, and to be able to very easily access those mailboxes
- The ability to MOVE messages between mailboxes. (OWA doesn't actually allow this - it only allows COPIES, for example)
- The ability to have all sent mail go to the top level of the sender's Inbox - even for discussions initiated by the sender.
- The ability to automatically notify mailbox owners when messages have been moved into their own mailbox by someone else.
The reason I am looking into webmail is that Thunderbird simply isn't working reliably for me yet, which is a crying shame, because it's functionality is excellent.
Greg.

I have not seen the imap issue you describe at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1012175
But, some very strange issues have been reported on win8, and also most of our support contributers have not seen thunderbird on win8. (myself included)
One starting point - Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Does problem go away?

  • How do I set up a proxy server for webmail services to assist in migrating from NMS 4.15p6 on NT to iMS 5.1 on HP-UX.

I want to have minimal if no downtime at all when moving the message store. iPlanet support hinted at an "unsupported" proxy server solution, and would give no further information. I am running the MMP with 5.1 and that supports IMAP and POP migration, but I need support for webmail services as well to complete the migration from NT to UNIX with minimal distruption of thousands of users. I am using the MoveUser utility to move the message store in hopes that will clear up some store corruption we have been seeing.

To get this in a 'supported' fashion you might want to wait until the iMS 5.2 release. iPlanet has said this release would include a webmail proxy/mmp server to do exactly what you desire.
A proxy server would not be a solution to your problem as it would have to have access and knowledge to the users mailhost attribute to determine to which host to route the webmail connection. The webmail proxy/mmp will have this functionality.
You might want to contact your iPlanet rep about this product and maybe you could get a copy of it as part of a beta program. I know iPlanet is always looking for oppourtunities for feedback like this.

  • When trying to use my webmail service it says i need some java to run reply to the emails.  i am using an iPad iOS 6.1.3

when trying to use my webmail service it says i need some java to run reply to the emails.  i am using an iPad iOS 6.1.3
what do i hve to do to be able to use my webmail ?

Java is not supported on iPads. Does your provider have a non-Java version or have their own app, or could you use the Mail or a third-party email app for it ?

  • WIll there ever be a Thunderbird webmail service?

I really like the sound of Thunderbird, but I need to access my email from multiple locations. I don't really fancy syncing it with my current email, because I'd like to keep things to one account. Will there ever be a webmail version?
    Thank you,
    Melanie

Web mail access is provided by email providers. It is the Internet link to their email servers.
Thunderbird is email client software and not an email provider. There is no Thunderbird email service so there is no web mail page needed.

  • Online alternative to thunderbird,

    Hi all,
After looking at the space my thunderbird is taking locally, I was searching for an on-line alternative to use on chromium.
It need to handle multiple Gmail account, Gmail labels and folders. And also multiple Google calendars.
After searching for a while on-line I couldn't find anything interesting, would anyone know a solution?
    Looking forward for your replies,

um, gmail? why use another online provider to manage gmail?
while you can't have multiple accounts in the same interface, but you can manage different "from" addresses from the same account, or collect mail from one gmail account into another (i assume, never tried that). and the same goes for calendars: you can have more than one
and there's no difference between gmail "labels" and "folders".
what would be the advantage of using one online provider to manage another one?

  • PI 7.4 single stack web service adapter alternative

    Hi All,
Looking at upgrading from 7.11 dual stack to 7.4 single stack and I know the web service adapter is no longer available (at least according to anything I have read, but I understand it is in the pipeline).
How do we provide and consume web services on a single stack environment?
I have looked hard, but if the answer has been before me I have failed to recognise it due to my own limitations.
If someone could point me in the direction of any articles/blogs/discussions that answer my question or can answer the question I would be very grateful.
    thanks in advance
    Julian

    Hello Julian,
WS adapter has not been migrated from ABAP stack to Java stack so far - so, in Java-only installation options of PI, there is no analogue for it from functional replacement perspective.
For web services consumption, the SOAP adapter can be used, but it is applicable for plain SOAP communication, not for WS-RM.

  • Can send but not retrieve emails using Thunderbird and Windows 8.1

Hi, I am not able to get Thunderbird to retrieve emails on a new laptop.
Last week I purchased a new laptop due to an imminent hard disk failure on my old laptop. I will call them "Old" and "New" laptops. (Old laptop is still working for the moment...)
The Old laptop is nearly 3 years old, and I have been using Thunderbird on it since new without any problems.
I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird on the New laptop, and can not get it to retrieve emails.
As the Old laptop is still working (at the moment), I am able to directly visually compare and check settings on both computers.
    THE PROBLEM
Using Thunderbird on the New laptop, I am able to send emails, I can see all my old emails restored from the Old laptop using Mozbackup, but clicking Get Mail on the New laptop does not retrieve new
    emails.
When I click Get Mail, the status message in the bottom left corner says "connected to .....<ISP>..." but does not actually get the emails. However, the Old laptop is still able to get emails as it always has.
My ISP is a large Australian telco that I have used for many years and I have not changed anything with my account. The ISP is POP3.
    WHAT HAVE I TRIED
I deleted the email account created by restoring from Mozbackup, and attempted using the Thunderbird new account wizard, however Thunderbird did not recognise my ISP and would not create the account - even though it is working perfectly at the same time on the Old laptop.
All Firewalls I can find have been configured to allow Thunderbird, with the same configuration settings on both machines.
How do I know I can send but not Get emails from Thunderbird on the New laptop?
I have sent test emails to myself from the New laptop. Thunderbird sends successfully, I am able to preview the test emails via Mailwasher on the New laptop, and can read, reply, etc, to the emails if I log into my ISP webmail service. However I can NOT get Thunderbird to retrieve and download these emails on the New laptop. If I go to the Old laptop, Thunderbird works perfectly, retrieves and downloads all new emails, including these test emails.
I am now at the point where I do not know what else to try and would appreciate any suggestions.....
I have spent many hours over the last 3 days surfing the net, forums, Mozilla Support, etc, and tried everything suggested, without success. The only thing I have NOT tried is starting windows in Safe mode (as per some suggestions), as it is not a viable long term solution.
    OTHER INFO
    Computer Details;-
    "Old" laptop;-
Windows 7 Home Premium - continuously updated with all Critical and Important updates. 64 bit version.
Antivirus = Bitdefender Total Security (subscription and licensed). Up to date.
MailwasherPro 2012 (subscription and licensed). Up to date.
Thunderbird 24.5.0 working perfectly. Up to date.
    "New" laptop;-
Windows 8.1 - up to date with all Critical and Important updates. 64 bit version.
Antivirus = Bitdefender Total Security (subscription and licensed) - downloaded and installed. Up to date.
MailwasherPro 2012 (subscription and licensed) - downloaded and installed. Up to date.
Thunderbird 24.5.0 - downloaded and installed.
Note: I 'downloaded and installed' the Windows 8.1 version of these programs to avoid any potential compatibility problems restoring or copying from a Windows 7 backup version of the programs.
    1) New laptop came with pre-installed with McAfee - which has been Uninstalled due to running Bitdefender (Windows searches for 'McAfee' return nothing found suggesting the Uninstall was successful).
    2) Thunderbird has been added to both Bitdefender and Windows 8.1 firewalls on the New laptop.
    3) Bitdefender and Windows security settings are identical on both laptops - as near as I can determine, I may be missing something - but have checked all settings 3 times by doing a side-by-side visual comparison.
    4) Thunderbird settings are also identical and I am using the same email address and ISP that I have been using for many years.
    5) I migrated Thunderbird settings, accounts and emails from the Old laptop to the New laptop using Mozbackup, then visually checked and compared all settings in Thunderbird between the two machines.
    6) For info, I have used Mailwasher for many years as a simple way to preview and wash mail before running email programs such as Thunderbird - might be overkill, but I have also never had a virus or malware problem, so will keep doing this.
    7) I have Uninstalled and re-installed Thunderbird on the New laptop twice, and done the same with Bitdefender once.
    8) Any config changes I try on the New laptop, I either restart Thunderbird and / or restart the New laptop, or both.
    9) I have not created a Windows 8.1 account and am not using SkyDrive.
    10) Only other software I have installed on the New laptop is Google Chrome, Office Home 2013 and iTunes - all are working.
    Thanks in advance....

Well there is not much left. If telnet works then the path is clear and there is no hardware firewall blocking ports.
All that is left is software, so try windows safe mode with networking. A very handy way to eliminate software. it also actually disables most anti virus resident features and is preferred here because anti virus/security programs do not always disable or turn off when they say they have.
You might also try the McAfee removal tool. https://community.mcafee.com/thread/52788 I notice the rep said yes to both, they did not say not required.
Finally you could try creating a new profile, and see if it works just to exclude corruption of your existing profile. ( I doubt it but I am at the anything goes point)
Just as an aside, I have never had an email borne nasty and I for many years never even had an email virus scanner. So yes I think your a bit over cautious with mailwasher, if that is what your using it for. Thunderbird does not support scripting languages or flash, or most plugins in the email sandbox. The result is getting a virus from a mail in Thunderbird is really only possible, for all practical purposes, if you open that password protected zip from the young Russian woman and that is what the anti virus should be blocking anyway when the temp file is written.

  • Managing Mail: Apple Mail vs. Thunderbird

Like many people, I have a growing concern about the privacy of my personal data contained in online webmail services.
Managing my mail locally on my Mac was a huge project for me, involving integrating tens of thousands of emails back to 2001. Mail was  from gmail, yahoo, and many years of Outlook PST files.
As I retrieved Gmail's messages back to 2004 using Apple Mail and archived them in Mail, I noticed problems with duplicates. After lots of research I found that there isn't a good method to deal with the duplicate problem in Lion Apple Mail. Apple Mail hides duplicate messages in the background. You can't see them easily, and there is no tool or add-on allowing users to search and destroy them (see discussion). Frustrating if you are managing massive mailbox archives.
I did find a very satisfactory solution to eliminating the duplicates: stop using Apple Mail and switch to Thunderbird.
I had never used Thunderbird before, there's still lots that I like better in the Apple Mail interface.  But Thunderbird is light-years more flexible in managing  email than is Apple Mail, largely because Thunderbird is an open platform with excellent Add-ons available. Not so for Lion Apple Mail, which is for all intents and purposes a closed platform.
Thunderbird has an add-on: http://bit.ly/tbirdimportexport available to quickly import your Apple Mail to Thunderbird.
Once that is done, the nifty Remove Duplicate Messages Add On provides a very flexible, quick way to get rid of duplicates - see http://bit.ly/tbird-dups. You can adjust the rules as you wish, for example identifying messages that have the same "From" and which have the same line count.
Now that the project is complete, I'm very happy with Thunderbird to manage my email archives. Though I actually would prefer the Lion Apple Mail interface for day to day use, it just isn't flexible enough.
Ah, the things we do for privacy these days!

The best thing about Thunderbird e-mail is that you can bounce an e-mail.
That feature was removed from Apple Mail with 10.7

  • Webmail - Outlook Webmail Access on Safari

    Hi
Since upgrading to iOS 5 im having trouble using Outlook Web Access through Safari.
I can type in an email but if I try to go back and edit it I cannot edit it. I then cannot type anything.
In fact typing as a whole is slow to respond.
    Please help.
    Dave

I have a website that a friend set up for me, on which I have a POP account. I have set it up as an account in Mail, and although the username and password are correct, it won't work. It does on my iphone however, so it's not the account/server.
I am a local councillor and want to access the Council's email (London Borough of Camden: https://webmail.lbcamden.net/) via their webmail facility. Every time I try to log on it says "could not log on with the information supplied", whether using Safari or Firefox. Again, my iphone connects to it satisfactorily, and my security details work on other machines.
Another client offers a webmail service via Outlook Web Access, for an additional address they have created for me, and that is working satisfactorily.

  • How do I get sent webmail to synch across Mac and iPhone?

    Hello,
If I compose a message on my iMac, it will not appear in the webmail's sent mailbox on my iphone.  The reverse is true too: if I compose a message on my iPhone, it will not appear in my iMac's webmail sent mailbox.
I have successfully set up all my webmail accounts on my iMac's Mail as IMAP.  I can see sent messages I compose on my iMac in the sent mail folder (I configured the sent mail folder by going to Mailboxes and selecting "Use this Mailbox As" => Sent).   I did the same thing for my iphone and can easily find sent webmail messages I composed on my iphone too.  On both my iPhone and iMac, I have opted to use Mail's Sent Mail folder and not the webmail's sent folders.  I have checked, and all sent messages are displayed in Mail's Sent Mailbox option.  This is not a gmail account, it is a webmail service provided by my hosting company, Inmotion Hosting.  The only issue is that sent mail does not seem to be synching across device.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

Hello Arthur. I am sorry  in the I probably wasn't too clear. Actually no, the MBP was not restored. These mailboxes, or accounts, were added. I was to start using my own site rather than yahoo, gmail etc. So I made up several accounts as I can have unlimited mailboxes on my site. I decided to have boxes that classified who the mail is coming from so when a family member writed to me they use an address [email protected] When a friend writed the are told my email address is [email protected] When my doctor or health insurance need to communicate with me the write to [email protected]..and on.
So I added 10 POP accounts with names following the convention I just outlined. I am trying to see if there is a way that they will automatically appear on my othr devices without having to create the same 10 mailboxes/accounts on myu iPad and iPhone. As I said, I don't remember have to create the old mailboxes on all three devises....just on the MBP.
I hope this makes it clearer.
    Thanks.

  • "Webmail is turned off." But it's not

First off, I have searched the forums (and Google) but nothing that's turned up has been relevant to my set-up.
I have multiple Drupal 7 web sites up on the same Mac Mini Server, and they all work just fine, even though all of their files are stored on an external drive connected to the Mini.  I say that to establish that I've already found and implemented the fixes to get virtual hosting working.
I have the Mail Server up and running as well, and can successfully send and receive mail via IMAP accounts both while logged into the Mini and also remotely by pointing the Mail app on another Mac to the Mini and setting up an IMAP account there. Everything works just great.
The issue is webmail.  When I point my browser to www.example.com/webmail I get this:
Webmail is turned off. You can turn it on by using the Server app on the server.
Clearly it is turned on, else I wouldn't be here with my puzzled hat on.
My router is a Time Capsule. I have a lot of ports forwarded to the Mini but there's no entry there for a "Webmail" service--but this should just go in as HTTP, right? I don't believe any port other than 80 is applicable here.
For the Web Server configuration for the site in question that I want Webmail working on, I have www.example.com and example.com set to point at the external drive volume where that particular site's Drupal files live.  Does the Webmail access freak out because that domain's web site isn't at some default location it expects to see when looking for the Webmail interface files?  If so, where are they and how do I get to them?
    Many thanks in advance!

So, I've done some more digging. Thank you Apple, for thoughtfully providing documentation on your included software!  All you told me was that to enable webmail I had to check one box in the Server App.
    Sigh.
Okay, rant off.  It's pretty obvious from the log entries I posted that both a user and a database are missing from postgres.  After some searching I found an INSTALL document, that says this:
    * PostgreSQL
To use Roundcube with PostgreSQL support you have to follow these
simple steps, which have to be done as the postgres system user (or
which ever is the database superuser):
    $ createuser roundcube
    $ createdb -O roundcube -E UNICODE roundcubemail
    $ psql roundcubemail
    roundcubemail =# ALTER USER roundcube WITH PASSWORD 'the_new_password';
    roundcubemail =# \c - roundcube
    roundcubemail => \i SQL/postgres.initial.sql
All this has been tested with PostgreSQL 8.x and 7.4.x. Older
versions don't have a -O option for the createdb, so if you are
using that version you'll have to change ownership of the DB later.
Okay, good...except it doesn't tell me how to get to the $ prompt for entering the first set of commands.  On a hunch I tried just typing "postgres" at the command prompt and got this:
postgres does not know where to find the server configuration file.
You must specify the --config-file or -D invocation option or set the PGDATA environment variable.
I Googled that whole section as my search item and about the only relevant thing I got was info on how to set one's environment variables--which I already know how to do. What I don't know is where this variable is supposed to point.
Okay, I'm at my limit, I've run out of fingers to hold on various bullet points. Is there some clear, concise how-to on setting all this up that doesn't assume I already know half this stuff?

  • Can't send or receive emails using Windows Live Mail. Webmail login says "account disabled."

Since yesterday we have not been able to access our Verizon email through Windows Live Mail or loging on to the webmail service.  Nothing happens and we get a "accounts disabled" message.  I checked all of the POP settings and it won't connect.  When we try to log in to the verizon webmail service, it says our accounts have been disabled.  Please tell us what is going on. I've chatted with a representative and am speaking to one on the phone and they can't tell me why it's disabled or how they can enable it again.

Ok, now they're telling us that one of our email accounts is associated with someone in Texas.  But we're from California and have always lived here.

  • Firefox 4.0 will not work with my Knology email service when 3.6 will, why not?

I've cut and pasted the Knology response to my question. As you can read below, Knology states it is Firefox issue.
    Mr. Stanley,
Thank you for contacting Knology Technical Support. I do apologize that you are having problems accessing the webmail service with Firefox. As the error message states this is a problem with Firefox dropping support for some type of code. The way its worded makes me assume that it will be available as a plug in or extension for Firefox, but we do not know what they have dropped out of the base browser. Both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome have no problems accessing the webmail.
    Thank you for choosing Knology,
    Roy

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Why does v5.0 not work with talktalk (tiscali) webmail, this is really causing me big problems?

When I try to log into my tiscali webmail service on www.talktalk.co.uk the box opens but then I get a message "you have undefined new mails in your inbox" and then the system just hangs until I log out. I can't access my mails !! The word "undefined" should be a number, e.g. you have 20 new mails and I should then see my inbox. I can still access mails via IE6 but it's so slow it's awful and I need to go back to Firefox.
This happened as soon as I updated to v5.0 Firefox !!!!!

It appears that there are a lot more tiscali/talk talk customers that have this problem but as usual talk/talk will take forever to fix it.
