Weird file format produced when exporting to Compressor

I em exporting to Compressor from FCP to create an MPEG 2 video. In the past, it's always produced an "_MPEG - 2 Video_." Now it's creating an _"MPEG-2 ( which is followed by a bunch of Japanese symbols)"_. Don't know why this is happening. The default app to open is now a Droplet instead of Quicktime. Also when I try to export to compressor I am getting a message of "Selection contains no media." I am able to work around this, but this is coinciding with this other problem.
I also recall that some of my MPEG - 2 files that were created as QTs have been converted (how? I don't know, but I am suddenly recalling) to this weird Droplet format.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
this rings a bell, anyhow, here something to try:
-Try to export as QT movie self contained (this will keep identical quality) from FCP and import that in Compressor.
-- Use [this little application|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to trash preferences of bothj FCP and Compressor (note: with preference manager you can back up and reinstall your current preferences if you wished to).
Finally something I'd rather suggest if I had more info handy, however,
--- In Compressor's main menu>Compressor>Click on reset background process then resbmit.
Any of all these help?

  • Format Changes when Exporting to PDF

I'm using Crystal 12.0 and have an issue very similar to these threads listed below.
While viewing a report on my development machine, all is fine.  I can export to PDF and the formatting is OK.
However, when the report is exported to PDF on the web server, the spacing between some of the text is off.  The spacing is used for a CrossTab cell in a "Display String" that I changed using "Format Field."   All that's supposed to happen here is several spaces are used to move the text under the proper column.
When exporting to PDF on the web, the text moves over to the left like it's missing some of the spaces.  I wondering if the below threads apply to Crystal 12.0.
    Thread:1220516 and
Format Changes when Exporting to PDF
    Thanks kindly for your assistance,
    -Marty

I'm having a very similar problem using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008. Everything is perfect when running in VS 2008, it takes the report and exports it to PDF format via VB code. The PDF file is idenitcal to the report. However, when run on the server the one page report (when exported to PDF) gets chopped into ten 4x4 chunks. So the PDF file is 10 pages....its like puzzle pieces of the original.
I've drawn a bunch of lines on the report to look like boxes - perhaps this is causing issues? The font on the report is Arial.
The server has the 10_5 runtime installed and it is set to the same default printer as the development PC. I have been stuck on this for days and would really appreciate any advice you may have.
    Thanks!

  • When exporting through compressor do you have too...

Was just wonder if when exporting through compressor does the TL have to be rendered first before you export through Compressor?
OR will Compressor render the TL out then proceed with doing it's thing?
    Thanks
    AM

would you recommend trashing all the render files with the render manager before exporting through compressor (something i never do. i always make self-contained QTs first then import to compressor)?
    Yes indeed.
In fact, that's exactly what I do. I do a Print To Video first - from a rendered timeline, obviously - but then I trash all the render files from that project and send the master timeline out to Compressor before I head home.
Personally, what I notice most is an almost total removal of the "mosquito noise" (seemingly) inherent in DV -> MPEG2 enocoding. If you're testing on DVD/TV setup using S-Video or Component connections, it's most noticiable. (again, in my experience)
Give it a shot and tell us if you see any improvement.

  • Footage pixelated when exported with compressor

I've film HD video and edited with FCP, the aspec ratio on the sequence is 720x480 anamorphic, and it looks great, when I export it with QuicK Time it looks great but DVD Studio Prp doesn't support the settings. when I export it with Compressor, DVD Studio Pro imports it fine, but it is very, very pixelated.
What would be the best option to use when exporting with Compressor.
What I want is that the WideScreen image shrinks when viewing it on a Standard TV, I've done it with iDVD but when watching it on a standard tv is cuts the two sides of the image.
    Thank you for your help.

If editing HD material you would be best off editing in the HD timeline, size and Codec (not sure if you did that and then down rezzed?) SD DVDs used compressed video, so anything that compresses things more prior to the compression to an SD m2v (video used on DVDs) can lead to more of a quality hit.
Anyway what you would do is export the movie as self-contained movie, reference movie or directly to Compressor to a 16:9 m2v preset (including one you made yourself) and use that in DVD SP
Take a look [at this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11040698&#11040698] and [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11287710#11287710]

  • File name trouble when exporting

Sometimes FCP is adding three characters (like for example #DD2) to the file name when exporting (cmd+e). I have never had trouble with this before. What can be the reason for this?

I don't know what's causing your problem. The only time I've seen additional characters added to file names is if the target drive is formatted as FAT16/32 and the file has to be broken into 2/4 GB chunks or if you are using compressor and you've set it up to append the preset name to the output name.
Is there anything unique about material source, processes, settings, etc when it happens vs when it doesn't?
    Good luck,

  • When exporting to Compressor, it starts re-rending everything!  Why?

I edited a 2-hour project with 5 cameras in multiple images so could see all the cameras at once. It took a long time to render, many days, but at least that is done. Now, when I export to Compressor to make a DVD, it starts re-rendering everything! Not only that, it does not use any of the render files, because I noticed the compressed m2v does not include all the rendering. It will take more than 80 hours to compress! Not only that, when it is compressing, I can see it jumping a few frames forward, a few frames back, forward, back, etc...but I told it to do 1-pass compressing! Arghhhhhh.....! (Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz, 1 GB Ram.)
I tried a test of sending just a simple project with one video track and cuts only to Compressor, no rendering needed and no rendering done, and it charges ahead at high speed!
Does anybody know how to send the rendered project to Compressor, not the original unrendered sequence?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Now, when I export to Compressor to make a DVD, it starts re-rendering everything! Not only that, it does not use any of the render files, because I noticed the compressed m2v does not include all the rendering.
Can you detail what, exactly, is happening? Do you mean to say that you get a 'Rendering' progress bar? And when you say your ".m2v does not include all the rendering," what does that mean?
The reason I ask is because I always send unrendered timelines directly to Compressor. That way, Compressor does all processing - for filters, motion effects, compositing, etc - directly to the .m2v file, producing much better quality in most cases. I've never seen a Render progress bar though, and I've been using this method since August or so.
It will take more than 80 hours to compress! Not only that, when it is compressing, I can see it jumping a few frames forward, a few frames back, forward, back, etc...but I told it to do 1-pass compressing! Arghhhhhh.....!
Unrendered timelines - depending on how much and what needs to be processed by Compressor - take anywhere between 2x-4x as long as sending a rendered timeline to Compressor. Think of it this way: Compressor is both encoding and doing the processing that rendering would have done. You mentioned that it took days to render, so in that regard 80 hours doesn't seem outrageous if you timeline is now unrendered.
Also, the 'Processing Frames [#=#]' process bar 'jumping' that you're seeing is a necessary part of creating the GOPs that MPEG-2 uses. That happens regardless of a 1-Pass or 2 Pass setting.
Having said all that, if you can't afford the time commitment of this workflow, then I'll second Thrillcat Editorial's recommendation: Export as a QT movie.

  • Format changing when exporting from InDesign to PDF

I am using Acrobat 8 version 8.1.2, and InDesign version 5.0.2.
I am noticing a very specific problem when exporting some files to PDF from InDesign.
We often have a format where we have a numbered list of right-aligned number, followed by some text, a leader line, and then another number at the end of the line. This is set up with a left indent and a first line left indent (rather than using the numbered list options), and then the necessary tabs later in the lines.
I am finding since we switched to IDCS3, that when I export to PDF, lines containing this format change in the PDF. The text that appears after the number in the front of the line is pushed over on top of the leader line, leaving a huge white space. On rarer occasions, it will move things in lines that have no indents, but contain tabs that aren't being used.
I have been able to get the files to export correctly by removing the left indent and first-line left indent and using tabs instead (or by removing unused tabs). But we have hundreds of files set up in this manner so going in and changing how they are all set up is problematic to say the least.
Is this a known issue? Does anyone know why this might happen and how I can prevent it?

I haven't tried printing to PDF. I will try that and see what happens. Unfortunetly, where I work we are required to export to PDF rather than print to PDF, so if it works it will only be a clue for me rather than a solution.
Thanks for the reply. I'll try a cross post to the InDesign forms.

  • Formatting lost when exported to excel

When I export a worksheet results to excel the formatting is being lost like in my worksheet I wanted a line and space for every grouped item which is lost in excel sheet. Is there a way get around for this ?
    Thanks

Not exactly sure what formatting you're having a problem with, but I'll list some of the points I can think of, of exporting to Excel and will hopefully cover it. I believe you may be referring to point 1 below, but just in case ...
    1. If you have group sort on for a column or more, then when exported to Excel, you won't have those 'blank' values for the column(s) that's grouped. That's why when you know someone will be exporting to Excel, it's a pain as all group sorts are usually taken back off (which can screw up exactly what you're trying to point out in the workbook).
    2. If you have a page -> item (ie: lots of values you pull down like a LOV), then I believe, that you won't get an Excel worksheet for each value in the LOV but only for the one currently displayed when you performed the File -> Export.
    3. When you export to Excel, you only get actual values, no functions of how it was calculated (ie: it'll be static, not dynamic).
    4. You can export to Excel using Plus and might not get the formatting characteristics you want in Excel. I've seen users specifically bring up Viewer just to get the formatting characteristics (colors, fonts, etc.) when they export from that Disco version.
    5. Sometimes when you export from Disco to Excel, that actual value that gets posted in Excel is different. I know ... it sounds wierd, but it's a fact. The problem is NOT Disco, but is a problem with Windows and a setting has to be altered (although I'd have to hunt what that setting is now though). However, I've only seen this happen a few times, so definitely not the norm.

  • Error -43 file not found when exporting from QT Pro 7.5

I get the error -43 (a file could not be found) when trying to export into any format from within Quicktime Pro 7.5 (861) which i believe is the most current version. I also cannot perform a simple "save as" to save my video into another name, i dont get an error message for that one, but it just doesnt do anything. Im not sure if there is any point placing this on this forum, but maybe someone at Apple is interested in offering a little support...?

OK so i found the solution myself - seems apple programmers have been not doing their jobs properly, to get this working the file name of the video that i want exported cannot be anything other than in 8.3 format (like old MS-DOS) but it's more than that, even if you do have the file in 8.3 format it still cant be in a directory that has a name longer than 8 characters, or which has spaces in it etc. so in my case i copied my video to c:\temp and renamed all of them to the old MS-DOS 8.3 format, now the export works... amazing I wonder how long i would have waited for apple support if i hadnt resolved this myself.

  • Crystal Reports Formatting issues when exporting to Word Editable document

Version: CR XI, I am editing a document exported from CR to Word Editable
When exporting to a Word Editable (.rtf) document the formatting changes.  For example: lines that were drawn in the report do not come across, there  is a tab in front of each line and a carriage return at the end of each line and spacing and justification formatting are not the same.  Is there a way to export to Word Editable and keep the formatting integrity? This report was developed by a third party but I can edit it if needed.

Pages 5 is, as an early reviewer put it, "an unmitigated disaster." Not only does it lack some 100 feautres that are present in Pages 09 (4.3), it is also VERY buggy, A quick look through these discussions will reveal a painful litany of data corruption, files that cannot be opened, lost data, and other anomalies. Links do not export reliably to PDFs, and, as you've discovered, export to .docx format is unreliable. Sadly, the best advice is to trash Pages 5.1 and use Pages 4.3 or — yes, it's come to that — Word instead.

  • Invalid docx file format error when publishing

    Good morning all,
I've been using UPK 3.5.1 Developer for years with Office 2003 (yes, I know we should upgrade, but that's out of my control), and have successfully published many times. After my latest publishing, the following error showed in the Activity Log:
Task: Job Aid / Postprocessing document
Comment: Invalid docx file format odpub://int/PlayerPackage/Temp/03d444ee-681b-406b-aba2-cd4b669702e2_JOBAID.docx
All of the other job aids have published to a .doc format, so I'm not sure why this one is behaving differently. I located the offending topic, and in UPK, the preview provides a similar error when I try to preview the job aid. Strangely enough though, in the published project, the job aid for that topic prints just fine. I know I can just ignore the error since the finished product works, but I'm just wondering if anyone has some insight as to why this error occurred.
    Thanks!
    Brenda Hutch

I am having the same issue. It is during export - almost immediately after exporting begins. No file is created.

  • Audio Sync when Exporting Using Compressor

    Hello!
Having an odd situation. Project in FCP 4.5 the audio is sync'd just fine in FCP export using Compressor and the audio is delayed about 5 seconds...so the video footage starts and about 5 seconds later the audio starts. Now, in the same project I have other footage and exported the same exact way without issues - I have no idea why this particular footage would be an issue! Because Compressor is exporting these files with the audio and video as separate files I am seeing this issue when the file is in DVD Studio Pro - but again none of the other files that are being placed on this DVD are having audio alignment issues...so this is not making sense.
I am not 'new' at this but I am no expert either - my main gig is audio - so I could really use some help.
Any suggestions? I am not sure what other information someone would need to help so ask away.
    Thanks in advance!

Well I REALLY need some help with this one! I have tried so many different 'work arounds' without success. As mentioned in my first post the audio is not sync'ing with the video when exported. I have tried Exporting the file in QuickTime, I have tried using Compressor again exporting just the video then the audio - pulling it into a new session and lining it up again but everytime I pull it the newly exported file into a new project and render it FCP crashes not allowing it to render (nice!). I actually started from square one capturing the video footage again and assemble the project again without luck. I simply cannot believe what a pain in the arse this is!! I need to get this project done and it simply won't do it.
Where are my blood pressure pills????

  • Does the file format differ when you Publish locally to hard drive vs. to the Connect Pro server?

I notice that when I publish locally to my hard drive to review a set of slides, I see a folder full of files. If I click on index.htm within the folder, I can launch the slides.
When I publish to the Adobe Connect Pro server, I merely see a url for the link to the course.
I'm not sure what this url link represents (as far as the file format is concerned):
Has the presentation been converted to different file format than what is published on my local drive? If so, what format is it in?
If  the presentation has not been converted, does the directory structured published to my local drive get replicated on the Adobe Connect Pro server, and the url is merely a link to the "starting file " within that folder (say, index.htm)?

The published output does not differ between publishing locally and publishing to Connect. The URL on the Connect server does, ultimately, point to the Index.htm or viewer.swf file.

  • File format invalid when opening a word document

    Hi there,
I have been sent a batch of Word and PDF documents, which when I try and open on my Macbook they all come up with the message 'The file format is invalid'.
I have previously been sent word and PDF files, and had no problem opening them.  I have used the Help resource, and followed the instructions about dragging the file to the Pages icon etc, but the same error message comes up.
What could be wrong?  I think that the version of Word is 2007.

As far as I know, Pages was never able to open PDF files.
By default, this task is dedicated to Preview.
M…oSoft created so many file formats that I'm not really surprised by what yo describe with Word documents.

  • Format problem when export to RTF

    Hi,
Iam creating a RTF template, when export to pdf everything working fine. However, when i export to RTF(word) alot of document properties got lost such as :
font size default to 12 when it's blank line; page number are not re-start for multi sections; table properties not holding, header, footer and edge margin are not holding, etc...... Is there any way to fix these. I tried to create a word macro to fix some of the format problems, but the macro have to run manually instead of initialized form a text field option on exit. Any idea on how to fix or work around would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

As Yvan points out, no one here can write what they know about it, and the vast majority of us know nothing about it.
You cannot take any decision based on the assumption that Pages will one day support tables in RTFs, because it may never happen. If you need both RTF and tables, the only option is another tool (like NeoOffice, TextEdit, MS Office and so on).
