  • Too Late to process the annotation in the build script.

    Hi,
My build script is taking 17 to 18 mins for processing the annotation.

  • Welcome to Adobe Employees From the Forum

In case you have not noticed, we have several Adobe Employees posting to this forum. Their presence is greatly appreciated, and I hope that everyone extends a very warm welcome to them, and says "Thanks" for their participation.
While not unheard of here, the Adobe presence has been a bit sparse, and often only noticed, just before an update.
We are fortunate to have these folk contributing to the posts here, as they have insight that most of us mere users will not likely have. We can all learn something useful from them.
Welcome, and thank you for the contributions!
    Hunt

Historically, there has not been much of an Adobe presence here. Usually, an employee would show up, when a survey or fact gathering was needed, and then they'd go back to their jobs in engineering, or wherever. Nice to have them, but the stops were too brief, and far between.
Lately, there have been several folk with the "Employee" badge on their Profile, and their presence has been greatly appreciated. There are a few more contributors, who I suspect are employees, and would urge them to add that "Employee" badge too.
From my perspective it accomplishes two things: it shows users here that Adobe is committed to supporting the product through the forum, and second, it lets a poster know that the person replying probably has a better understanding of the program, than someone like me will have.
We are fortunate to have our new contributors, and I urge folk to not abuse them. That happened about CS3 in the PrPro forum, where posters were demanding dates of release for updates, details of what Adobe was working on, and then bashing those employees, when they were not happy with something. We lost two respected employees from that forum, as they just got tired of getting bashed, for trying to help.
Now that forum has a couple of employees, who are assigned to monitor the forum, as part of their job descriptions - before, the employees came to the forum on their own, and on their own time from home! They gave up dinner with their families, just because they wanted to help out.
I do not know the situation here and now, but want to extend that welcome to all, and give them a big thank you.
There is so very much that we users do not, and probably cannot know, so the replies from Adobe are greatly appreciated.
Glad that they were able to help, and hope that their contributions will continue and feel that all users will benefit from their input.

  • I recently did a restore to factory settings on my 2009 macbook and now im stuck on the welcome screen where u choose the country my trackpad allows me to move the arrow around but when i tap continue to choose it does nothing. someone please help

I recently restored my 2009 macbook to factory settings and now its stuck on the welcome screen where u choose your country. My trackpad allows me to move the arrow around but when I tap on it to select continue it does nothing at all. The only thing else it will allow me to do is go thru the voice over tutorial by pressing escape. Please help me fix this I need to use my computer.

    Hi, teezbreezy64.
I found a couple of resources to help troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing. The first is this article named Intel-based Mac notebooks: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248.
Try disconnecting the MagSafe connector from the computer and check the trackpad function. If the trackpad becomes responsive again, improper grounding may be the issue.
If a two-prong AC plug is being used with the power adapter, try using the three-prong power cable that shipped with your computer and plug it into a grounded outlet.
If the issue persists, make sure the third prong is present and do not use an adapter to enable the three-prong adapter to be used in a two-prong outlet. Note that the ground in the three-prong outlet may not be connected. This is common in older homes or buildings with replaced outlets. In these situations, the three-prong power cable will not improve trackpad responsiveness.
If a grounded outlet is not available, rest your palm on the palm rest when using the trackpad. This should enable the trackpad to function properly.
If that does not resolve the issue then I recommend resetting the SMC on your computer. Here is an article on how to do that:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • Welcome to the Oracle Warehouse Builder discussion forum

    Hello!
Welcome to the Oracle Warehouse Builder discussion forum!
Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) product management and development will monitor the discussion forum on regular basis.
Please use this forum for asking product related questions, giving feedback, suggesting enhancements, reporting problems and requesting collateral.

    Bonjour "Etudiant from Tunisia",
I'm not sure what you mean with "please give me the user/password".
As far as I know there is no online OWB available where you could try out the product (if that is what you mean).
If you would like to learn more about OWB, read online documentation or for instance the link that is provided in an earlier post in this thread.
Otherwise simply install OWB and try it yourself. The Installation and Configuration Guide is clear enough even without much experience installing Oracle software, and the OWB User Guide provides some basic insight on working with OWB itself.
    Good luck, Patrick
ps If people are still expecting what Igor mentioned when he started this forum ("Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) product management and development will monitor the discussion forum on regular basis"), don't count on it; fortunately the product itself has been around long enough now, there are quite some users that can share usable insights and/or drop some useful lines on the new threads... ;-)

  • Welcome to the Novell Plug-in SDK Forum!

    Hello all,
This forum is dedicated to the Novell Plug-in SDK, which currently
provides a framework for the development of Sentinel and Identity
Manager plug-in components, namely Reports, Collectors, Actions, and
Solution Packs, although we do hope to expand that list in the future.
If you have questions about the SDK, the build scripts, the API, or

classes or methods developed by customers to extend their solutions.
    * Novell officially supports the SDK install, build scripts,
template code and layouts for Collectors, Actions and Reports, except
for any template code that is in the dev directory for the plug-in
    itself and is modifiable.
    * Novell does not officially support the sample code that is copied
into the release.js files and which is editable by the developer.
    * Novell will not support any customer- or partner-developed code
directly, though Novell Support will provide guidance on troubleshooting
in order to determine whether the bug is in the supported components.

  • The browser back button is not working correctly when using the search funtion in ProBoards forums. Is there a known issue with ProBoards & FF?

I have submitted a bug report to ProBoards, but they cannot duplicate the problem I am having, so I am submitting this here in hopes you can find a solution.
At ProBoards Support and another PB forum while doing searches I found this problem, which continues with repeated testing over the past week or so:
    url: http://support.proboards.com/search
    1. enter perameters for the search (posts only by staff for the last 2 days)
    2. choose one of those post results & click on it (choose a post on page 14 and not on page 1 of the results)
    3. using the browser back button, attempt to return to the previous page of search results
    4. rather than being taken back to the search results with my parameters, the search parameters have been removed and the page show 1000 results of posts by everybody.
I have tested this over and over again, disabling plugins, and nothing seems to alter the malfunctioning of the back button when I am doing this search function at ProBoards.
I have tested it in Internet Explorer and find that in IE the browser back button works properly with ProBoards searches. I always get the result I expect, so it's a problem with how FF interfaces with ProBoards, I think.

  • Censorship on Adobe ColdFusion forums - Open letter to the management of the Adobe ColdFusion forums

This is reproduced from its original location at http://cfmlblog.adamcameron.me/2013/06/censorship-on-adobe-coldfusion-forums.html; it is also posted on the relevant ColdFusion forum. Apologies for the cross-post, but the two forums have different membership, and I think it's relevant to both.
Open letter to the management of the Adobe ColdFusion forums
(I do not know how to contact you, but I will try to find out and send this to you directly as well, as a courtesy).
    Hi.
I am a veteran user of your ColdFusion support forums. Over the last decade or so I have been visiting the site daily (indeed several times a day: I get notified when any post is made on any of your ColdFusion-centric forums), and answering as many of people's questions as I can. For the last few years it's been via the web UI so you can go check my participation, but prior to that I was using the forums via NNTP, and my participation during that period is less easy to quantify, but it's to the tune of a few thousand posts / answers to people's questions. I consider myself an asset to the forums, and the ColdFusion community. I mean this just as "for the record", rather than any attempt to inflate any sense of my worth.
However as of today - unless you take remedial action as I will go on to detail - I will be surrendering my membership of your forums, and ceasing all attempts to assist people there.
Why am I considering doing this? Well firstly I will reproduce a thread from your forums, then I will discuss it. Where possibly the quoted material below is as it was initially posted, and if it's not exactly as originally presented, this is an accident on my part. I have highlighted some points I wish to discuss with you, simply for ease of cross-reference.
I have confirmed with Jason Dean (12Robots) that is happy for me to quote him here. I did not attempt to contact the other participant: "grazan".
Below is a chronological reproduction of the thread (in its original form, anyhow):
cold fusion 9 500 Internal server error.
    created by grazan
all of a sudden none of our cfm web pages work on a windows 8 server running iis 7 .... the
server shows no errors in the event viewer .... occasionally functionality comes back w/o doing
anything ...... cold fusion did have all the hotfixes updated a few months ago but i cant get to
the admin page to give what the version is
    thxs
    created by 12Robots
    First, ColdFusion is one word.
Second, what is a WIndows 8 server?
Third, and most important, you have provided ZERO detail. We can't help you if you don't provide something other than "none of our cfm web pages work".  ColdFusion has logs (<coldfusionDir>/logs) JRun has logs (<coldfusionDir>/runtime/logs). Even if the Windows event viewer shows nothing, there should be info in those log files about what is going on.

Well if you got over your misplaced indignation for a moment, let's see:
ColdFusion is what people will google for, so in the spirit of helping others who might have the same question as you later on, spelling it right will help the community.
Jason's observation that you give us absolutely nothing to go on so it's basically impossible to help you is a fairly poignant observation, right? You do want help? Right, so here's some suggestions:
Articulate your issue clearly, with sufficient detail that we can help you. Read this:
    http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smartquestions.html
Secondly... being rude to someone like Jason who really is one of the most helpful people on
these forums is a pretty stupid idea. And just serves to make you look a bit of a dick. Esp. with the caps lock on.
But anyway, let's call that a false start. Give us the details of your issue, and we'll try to help.
    Cheers.

    Forum admin,
You censored the comment "ColdFusion is one word"?  Seriously?
I didn't realize that suggesting that someone spell the name of the product correctly was against the forum guidelines.  I guess I could go look it up, but I will just unsubscribe and help out at Stack Overflow instead.

Please see how much I used to help out on these forums.
I'm outa here, but not before I complain about your dictatorial behaviour.
    Censorial nazi idiot.
[The entire message above has now been redacted].
That's the end of the relevant part of the thread.
Clearly I wish to speak to you about this censorship your moderator is choosing to undertake.
Firstly, let me say that I understand the perception that forums require moderation. Personally I think this position is of dubious merit, but so be it: it's a common practice. And I generally understand when I see things that have been moderated, or when a moderator step in and advises that they consider someone's wording contravenes forum guideline. I understand all this.
    However.
I think the behaviour of your moderator in this situation is unacceptable. Let me elaborate.
Firstly, The highlighted comment of Jason's was removed. This comment stated - correctly - that the correct spelling of ColdFusion is as one word, as per his guidance. This comment was censored/redacted by your moderator. For the life of me, applying my most "socially modest" mindset, I cannot see what was wrong with Jason's comment, and why it needed any follow-up on any description. It was accurate advice.
The original poster's response to Jason was indeed a bit gratuitous, but - really - so what? No-one is taking offence here, and there's nothing anyone reasonable could take offence at. The person is just being a bit childish in their response. And, I hasten to add, at their own expense, I think. I see not reason to have redacted what they said.
We now come to my responses. One entire response I made was redacted (I've only just noticed this, whilst proofreading this letter).  A number of tracts was redacted from my own initial post on the thread. Here I was simply explaining why Jason said what he did, and why it's good advice. And it was good advice. Your moderator here has removed both good advice, and an explanation as to why it was good advice. Again, I cannot fathom why your moderator has done this.
Following on from this I back-up Jason's assertion that the original post was inadequate on detail for us to help. This too is accurate. I reiterated this to try to make the origial poster see that Jason wasn't simply being unhelpful - to the contrary - pointing out we need more information before we can help is very good initial advice here. Advice that has now been deleted.
Next is some slightly contentious wording on my part, I suppose... at least if one doesn't actually read what I say, instead simply zooming in on one word and assessing it out of context. I pointed out that being abusive and writing in all-caps is unnecessary, and makes the person look like a dick. Note I didn't say the person was a dick (that would be abuse... very mild though), I was saying that given the behaviour the person was engaging in, they could be perceived that way. Which is... accurate. And saying someone is a dick and suggesting they could be perceived as a dick are two different things. One is ad hominem attack (bad), one is simply an observation / guidance (not bad).
At this point Jason drew my attention to this censorship going on. And this is another thing that I think is inappropriate on the part of the moderator. I have little problem with them thinking that content on this thread needs censorship (whilst they are wrong, they are entitled to their opinion), to silently and anonymously redact people's posts is an inappropriate - and to be frank cowardly - handling of this situation. If the moderator has an issue with something written on the forums, the courteous and professional thing to do would be to advise the participants that they have overstepped. This would give us a chance to remediate the situation, or to simply disagree. Simply excising someone's work - because this is volunteer work we are engaging in here - is unacceptable.
If anything ought to have been censored from the thread it was my last comment. Whilst it was accurate, I did use harsh sentiment, I accept this. However in the given situation, I don't think I have been the most out-of-line participant in proceedings.
I would like you to remediate this situation, and here is how I would like you to do it.
Restore Jason's original post. There was no reason to censor it.
Restore grazan's all-caps post. It was doing no harm.
Restore my second post (not the one laughing at Jason's joke, the longer one I discuss above). Again, useful and accurate information was removed from this post, and there was simply no reason to have had done so.
You can leave my last comment redacted. Fair enough. Whilst I stand by what I said, it is unhelpful in the context of the thread.
I also want the moderator to be censured, and I would like them to apologise for their behaviour, by posting on that thread explaining that they understand their behaviour was inappropriate and unacceptable.
If they are a community volunteer, they should be dismissed from their position. They are clearly not capable of fulfilling this role in a professional, well-balanced manner.
If they are an Adobe staff person, then the censure will have to be sufficient, although I think they should be relieved from their duties as a forum moderator, as they are not up to the task at hand.
Talk to your other moderators and advise them they need to act with a sense of balance and professionalism when moderating the forums.
In return, I will continue my participation on the forums, and continue to help the ColdFusion community members where I can, in the spirit of goodwill and co-operation. I will also try to convince Jason to do the same.

    Adam,
    Comments from a kindred spirit...
I suggest you take a breather and go do something else for a few days or weeks.  Don't stomp your feet and say "I'm done for good, I won't be back", because like it or not, some of the reason you're here is to benefit YOU, and if you do go cold turkey you'll miss that benefit.
In other words, "never say never".
Like you, I have been extremely frustrated by the running of the forum from time to time as well.  Sometimes it's the quality of the forum software, sometimes it's the mix of other immature people who comment, sometimes it's just me.  Usually it's not the moderation or actual running of the forum, but I do understand where you're coming from.
I have benefited greatly on several occasions just by taking a vacation from forum participation.
We all have to understand two things:
    1.  We're able to communicate here by the good graces of Adobe, who are first and foremost a business, trying to achieve their business goals.  They'd rather not upset all the idiots, because unfortunately idiots have money to spend too.
    2.  Nobody's perfect.
I'm not sure about the specifics, but the moderators are generally also volunteers.  See item 2 above.
Hope you don't choose to stop contributing to the community, as no matter what, your contribution is good for the world.

  • I am able to get color images in the continues shot but when i try to snap a color image which i need for my processing i get only a monocrome image

I have been using lv_vfw.llb VI's for grabbing images from a CREATIVE WEB CAM ,i am able to get color images in the continues shot but when i try to snap a color image which i need for my processing i get only a monocrome image ,i have been trying to play around with the RGB weightings but i am unable to get a color iamge,it shall be of great help if you could help me in doing this as it is urgent for me.Thanks for your help.

    vicky,
I am unfamiliar with the lv_vfw.llb, and have not used it before. However, I noticed that you stated that you are able to grab in color, just not snap in color. If this is the case, why not just perform a grab and then extract a single buffer from this grabbed data, which would likely be in color? This seems like a possible solution to the issue that you are seeing.
Other than that, I really don't know enough about the lv_vfw.llb to be of much help on this issue. Hopefully another member of this forum will be able to assist you with this software.

  • Time to Change the Sticky at the top of this forum?

I think that we are past the delivery issues with the Droid X. As far as I know, anyway.
I respectfully submit to the Mods that the following information (copied and pasted from a response to a past by Wildman)  be posted at the top as a sticky, named possibly as "2.2 Froyo issues and solutions" or something to that effect
"This has been verified as being the best way to stop a number of the issues that has developed after doing Froyo update, the system seem to keep the 2.1 app and settings during installation process and this seems to cause a number of incompatible issues with a number of devices.... Follow this process after completing Froyo Update to avoid problems..
Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.
    1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy
    2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone
    3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information
    4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"
    5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.
This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues."
Or possibly, just post this entire thread by Wildman..
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Minimize-Droid-X-Issues-After-Froyo-Update/td-p/296586
And finally, it would be helpful to add this info from the Moto employee regarding updates from Moto to address other issues with Froyo..
"If you have already upgraded to 2.2 for Droid X, you have certainly found some great new capabilities. Most owners appear to be having untroubled operation, but  a few owners also found new issues. While the incidence of these these issues is low, we want to provide some positive news for those who might be experiencing them.
Here are some of the known issues raised by forums members, with some information about each. It is not intended to be a complete list at this time -- there are many more improvements in the works. I’ll update this list as information becomes available.
Stuck on Moto logo after reboot – this was tough on a very few owners. Sorry about that. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. If you are still experiencing this issue, click here.
Random rebooting – while there always seem to be new conditions that can cause an electronic device to panic, we do have improvements coming that address and eliminate identified panic states. They will be distributed in a future software release.
WiFi connection and stability – improvements in WiFi have been developed, to address several problem areas. They will be distributed in a future software release.
Battery Manager “force close” errors – under some circumstances, pressing the battery icon under Menu > Settings > Battery Manager results in a forced close error. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.
Media won’t play – includes “sorry the player does not support this type of audio file," custom ringtone stop working, video won’t play, etc. A reboot will restore full media function, but not permanently. We believe we have identified the cause of these errors. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.
Music files cutting off the final four seconds or so – a solution has been developed. It will be distributed in a future software release."
I truly believe that a sticky with this information would be a big help to those looking for advice and answers to the various Froyo issues (that, fortunately, so far I have not been afflicted with (except for that funny issue with the accessibility issue that apparently NO ONE, including myself read about in the what???......THE USER GUIDE!...:smileyvery-happy:
    Thank you,
    Geri O

My Eris? Only minor occasionally glitches (force closes or bad apps) and just recently found one tiny dead spot in the LCD screen (no big thing). Biggest thing is I have NOT had to pull my battery in months! I think it was more my fault the last time it happened.
The main reason I think my phone is so problem free is I did a factory reset soon after 2.1 OTA update.
Btw I went from a Motorola W385 to the Droid Eris. Big learning curve, but I enjoyed the trip. LOL

  • Will videos/movies play continuously on the iPod or only one at a time?

I have 80g iPod Classic and wish it could play videos continuously like it can play songs. Nothing in the pdf manual about it. Nothing in iTunes prefs about it. Nothing in iPod settings about it. I know if I make a playlist of videos in iTunes, iTunes can/will play the entire playlist before it stops. I dragged the playlist to the iPod, but there it plays one video and stops. Question: can it be done or can't it, and if so, HOW?

IT CAN BE DONE! I went to the linked thread
    (http://www.podcentral.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=3801)
and tried this, which works: in iTunes create a playlist of videos/movies; select all; choose Get Info from the File menu (yes to the alert); at the bottom of the window (titled "Multiple Item Information") toggle the "Skip When Shuffling" to "No". Then you can drag the playlist to your iPod's newly created playlist box. P.S.: Of 11 videos, 2 were rejected for not being able to be played "on this iPod", even though they already had played on it hours before, even though I had to convert many files so they could be "played on this iPod". "In any complex system blah blah will eventually blah blah.

  • Wrecked Connection PART 2 (the continuation)

    Hi Guys,
I will just add the relevent points ,if I miss any I know you will let me know
    Kindest becca
Power-cycling networking equipment (in the right order) can often solve a lot of problems. Worth a try.
-Rebooted my mini and router several times (including what you suggested in your earlier post Boece)
-Checked all settings and passwords for mistakes (three times-just to be sure)
-Ran Airport set up assistant---'problem connecting to network'
    -Manual connection---'problem connecting to network'
-Without any security (turned off MAC filtering WPA2 hidden SSID)-made no difference
-Adjusted channels from g to g&b to b and back -again no difference
When I looked in network utility I got...
    link speed 54Mb
    status active
    sent12
    send errors 253
    received 10
    received errors 0
    collisions 0
These results are after 10 minutes of trying to connect via airport.
I get an error from safari -error 1001
Firefox error- AUS update XML file malformed (200)
I appreciate your concern about the mini being far away but I have measured it and the distance between the base station/mini is approx 30 ft (in a straight line via ceiling ) I didnt really think that should be a problem (no microwaves, cordless phones, tv's etc )although there are other networks in the area they have never caused problems with a G5 imac (45 ft away and 2 ceilings) macbook ( 60 ft away2 walls and outside)
You might also want to consider reverting to the pre-update Airport configuration as outlined on MacFixit at http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070126190822382 - for ease of reading, the pertinent part is:
"1 -Download the most recent version of Mac OS X for Intel (10.4.8) but do not install it.
2 -Download and install the shareware application Pacifist
3 -Drag the Mac OS X 10.4.8 installer package onto the Pacifist application icon.
4 -Click the triangle next to "System" to expand it
5 -Click the triangle next to "Library" to expand it
6 -Click the triangle next to "Extensions" to expand it
7 -Scroll down and find the file IO80211Family.kext. Drag it to your Desktop or another location (you will have to enter your administrator password)
8 -On your Mac OS X startup drive, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and locate a similarly named file (IO80211Family.kext). Move it to another location for safe keeping.
9 -Now drag the file from step 7 (the one that you retrieved from the Mac OS X 10.4.8 install package) into the /System/Library/Extensions, in effect replacing the newer file (installed by the AirPort updater) with and older copy -- you will have to enter an administrator password.
    10 -Restart your Mac
Try switching your basestation to something like channel 5, 6 or 7, and repeat the ap grapher test.
I've give it a go on all the chanels 1-13 and 9 seems to get the best signal strengtht ( 95)
The only major difference I noticed with the other proccess was that the TX rate graph , while still up and down and off the scale at either end- was displayed closer together when on different channels than others.
The fact that all channels give you an erratic TX rate does rather suggest one of two issues: either you do have a problem with wideband RF noise, or either mini or basestation are faulty.
I'm back on it now after going through each channel again ....I have noticed that when a channel is switched to another the TX rate drops to a steady low level for 5 seconds or so and then goes haywire again
( the other levels displayed stop and then resume at roughly the same level and stay steady.
Mini is back up stairs in its origanal position (also tried moving it around- slowly and on a level )
Initially I had a connection and saw in 'apgrapher' that although up and down the TX rate wasn't as 'up' as before the 'up' wouldnt go past three quarters of the way up whereas before it was off the scale
( leading me to think interferance as suggested) the
Signal strength had dropped to 40 in the scanner window.
After trying to change channels to test the various available , my connection 'timed out' and I could not re-connect , I tried turning airport off and on to no avail.
Airport display showed connection at 4-5 bars.
A restart saw me connected again.
I took a look in Activity monitor and noticed that airport info would pop onto the display momemtaraly and then dissapear and would repeat that pattern at regular intervals.
This thread took 29 seconds to load fully after clicking on it in the forum menu .
I origanally started writing this post upstairs but the connection would time out regular and so I brought the mini back downstairs and connected via ethernet .
'll take this mini to another house (out of this area) over the weekend and study APgrapher's results.
I'm not to sure about local free wifi ( not too big on that in the uk at present ,unfortunatly) but I will take it over to my friends place (who has wifi) and check the results there also.
I took the mini to another house and it performed the same as it does at my house.
I rang apple tech support yesterday and have been dealing with a tier 2 rep who has said that I have tried all the correct trouble shooting steps including an SMC reset which was the last test I did.
I have been asked to send a report to apple( system profile>file>send report to apple) which I have done .
The tech guy has been very helpful and even called me back later in the day to get some more details and do a bit more trouble shooting
He has now sent the case details to a senior engineer who will call me back within a day or so to discuss how to resolve the issue one way or another!
I usually run any computer I have had for 2 weeks before installing any other software then I can check for hardware issues and know that 3rd party software is not to blame for issues .
I generally ask on here after running Onyx if I experience any problems.
I can say with certanty that the first mini was indeed quicker, not much- but definately quicker, same system and apple RAM etc .
Maybe it was just my perception of it though as I think my faith was diminished after the first mini was DOA
ok Andy , I will follow your advice and install all my bits and bobs and thrash this puppy using a big stick ( actually known as logic express)
I'll definately give it a good work out over the next 10 days or so as I'm still within the 14 days faulty return cenario
Your not going to believe this but this replacement is acting up now
    ARRRgh.
Same thing , dropping connection even though the airport icon states 4 bars ,the airport icon does fluctuate up/down.
The wierd thing is that when I try to reconnect I get the usual "problem connecting to network" so I click "ok" and then the airport bars go back to showing 4 bars and states that I am connected to my network but when I try and use the net I cannot, nor can I ping my wireless router.
Guess I'm gonna have to give up on the mac mini
Those symptoms are not uncommonly the result of a problem with the wireless access point.
Try pulling the power on it and waiting 30 seconds before plugging back in.
One way or another, I find it very odd, and somewhat unlikely, that two units would exhibit the same basic operability issues - particularly since the problem was not present out of the box with this latter system.
Andy what you said below really got me thinking and I thought to try a different electric cable on the router
With that preference pane open (the TCP/IP tab) so you can watch the IP address and ensure it remains, what happens if you try and ping the router using the ping tab of Network Utility (in Applications/utilities)? Ensure that when you open Network Utilities, in the 'Info' pane you have the correct network interface selected (it should be en1). The panel underneath there for Interface Information should show the correct IP and the status of the device as 'active'.
Then go to the Ping tab, enter the 192.168.0.1 address and have it ping 10 times. Then enter www.yahoo.com and ping that 10 times.
    What happens?
I see configure IPv4 using DHCP
    IP address 192.168.0.2
    subnetmask 255.255.255.0
    Router 192.168.0.1
There is also a IPv6 Address - is it safe to post that ? please advise.
Just to add I've ping'd both the router and yahoo again as the connection I have now has been active/useable for 7/8 minutes which is the best I have had for a while.
The only thing I have done differently is to have iTunes play a radio station.
I did this just before starting the radio on iTunes and getting this ( now nearly 35minutes ) stable connection.
I've been back into iTunes and turned off the radio and I still seem to have a stable (fingers crossed) connection .
It may be that the cable was causing a problem, dont know for sure but I will keep a close eye on it for a while.
    What do you think?
While it's hard to tell if this was the case, if the ping results you got at first (the 2 packets received and 8 lost) occurred while airport was still connected (rather than dropping and reconnecting) then it points strongly to a router problem, or at the very least, would tend to indicate that before we can seriously point the finger at the mini, it is really necessary to eliminate the router as the cause.
I wouldn't expect a replacement power cord to have a dramatic effect, though of course there are instances of faulty cables so it's possible. It is more likely, if the router is the problem, that it has a faulty power adaptor, or an internal fault. Both typically needing a replacement router.
In this situation, if the change of power cable does not give you reliably improved results, I think I'd try and find another router to beg, borrow or buy and insert it in your system to replace your existing unit. Set it up exactly as your existing unit so you can connect to your ISP, and see how that performs. If you are buying a new wireless router, don't get a 'super G' or 'turbo' type, just a straightforward 802.11g 54Mbit/sec device.
Alternatively, as you did previously, take the mini to another location where a wifi is available and test it there.
    Andy ,
I will keep an eye on the connection over the weekend and see what happens if it does start to falter ,then, as you suggested I will go and get another router and test it with that, if the connection remains ok I can only think that the 'issue 'was to do with the electric cable .
Been doing the ping thing this morning

I've had to do only 2 r 3 restarts to regain connection which certainly an improvement over every 5 minutes.
Thanks again to yourself , Boece and Daddypaycheck for the continued interest
Pretty much the same still .
Meaning that I have to reconnect by restarting the mac mini BUT not as bad as before, the connection holds for a while longer now .

(My suspicion is that the tiny antenna inside the
Mini is not as robust in dealing with marginal signal
conditions as the larger antennas in all the other
    Mac products
There is, in fact, a reasonable consistency of reports indicating exactly that with the Mac mini. The supposition has commonly been that the nature of the mini's casing has an impact on signal, which seems reasonably possible and would account for lowered sensitivity, less reliable operation in marginal signal conditions, and higher susceptibility to interference.
Though it has to be said that Becca's situation should not, either by range or apparent signal strength, be marginal - particularly not when previous tests have been conducted with the mini in close proximity to the base station.
-- although I'm still open to the
possibility that current airport software in Macs is
less tolerant of some non-Apple routers.
The minis (and other wireless devices) I have in service in the network are variously connected via an Airport Extreme base station, an Airport Express and Belkin and Lexmark WAPs. Range varies between 15 and 55 feet and I've moved various wireless devices around to experiment. In the course of doing this I've noted marginally better signal stability at the 55 foot range between a mini and the Airport Extreme base station, but no real difference in signal quality between any of them.
