Westnell 7500 wirelss connection headache

I'm having major problems setting up my wireless network. I received a Westnell 7500 to replace my old modem which I had connected to a D-Link router. I have an iMac that runs Snow Leopard and my wireless network operated fine up until my router died. I can browse the internet just fine with my wired computer but when i go to connect any of my wireless devices (iPod Touch, Wii, PS3) to the network i receive an internet connection fail signal from each device. On my PS3 I set thru the Network Setup screen and when I test my connection it is able to obtain my IP address but fails when it tries to connect to the internet.
I've downloaded the In-Home Agent which was no help and have called Verizon customer support numerous times. I was told that I need to purchase the Advanced Customer Support  Package to solve this problem, which seems ridiculous to me since I had no problem connecting these devices with my previous modem/router combo. When I try to reset my network using non-Verizon supported modem/routed combos i get stuck in the Walled Garden and am forced to call Support and receive the same run around about the Advanced Customer Support  Package.
I'm at my wits end with this problem and would really appreciate any assistance with this problem. I like Verizon's DSL, when functioning properly, and no do wish to switch ISP's, but this problem has been unresolved for a month and I see no other choice but go to a company that is more willing to assist me with their products.
Thanks for the help in advance
-Ian

It MAY be as simple as the network password setup. When I switched to Verizon from Comcast, I already had a wireless network setup with a long WPA password allowing all my devices to connect securely. The default WEP settings of the 7500 won't be recognized by your devices. Go into your advanced settings of your modem after loggong on. You'll need to enter a user name and password for that section -- use something you can easily remember but NOT "admin" or "password". You can then select your security -- even though Verizon defaults to WEP, that's the least secure so I'd go with WPA. You can then enter the old pass code setup and SSID you had before or configure a new one -- just be sure all your devices have the same code or they won't be able to log on to the network.
ALSO -- if you ever need to use the red reset button on the 7500, you will  lose all your settings and will need to re-enter the passcode. I found that out by bitter experience.

  • Connecting to a wirelss network

I am a newbie to Apple and have the following question:
I am in the process of setting up my Macbook Pro and going through the steps with Set up Assistant. I get to a point where it asks me what wirelss connection I want to use and gives 3 options: 1. Tardis; 2. Weeder; 3. Other.
I am not sure what I should be doing here - at present I have no broadband connection etc.
    What should I be doing?

If you have no broadband connection nor your own wireless network you are probably picking up your neighbours' networks. Just skip to the next page by not setting up any wireless network.

  • Remote Desktop Connection keeps disconnecting

I have BT Hub 3 (recently upgraded to Broadband Unlimited at the end of Jan 2015).
Up until recently I was able to Remote Desktop into my work computer (via VPN tunnel) with no problems at all.
Around March 6th, I began to experience problems with the Remote Desktop Connect (RDP), in that it now makes an initial connection and then disconnects (typically within a few seconds, occasionally after a couple of minutes).
It will then cycle through a number of reconnection attempts, all with the same result, before it finally drops altogether with the message:
'The Remote Desktop Services Session has ended. Connection to the remote computer was lost, possibly to network connectivity problems'.
I have tried restoring both machines back to a date when i know the connection was working - no joy. I've also tried deleting an re-creating now VPN and RDP connections - no joy. I've researched online and tried various other things, but still have the same problem.
I've tried connecting using a laptop (via my wirelss connection) with the same result. My manager has RDP'd in from his home machines and has had no problem at all.
This leads me to consider whether the problem is with the router/BT Hub itself. I've tried the online diagnostic tools with no resolution to this problem.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Oh well, I suppose that after more than 2 months of frustration with this issue, the BTCare Community is unable to help me.
I can be fairly sure that it's not my machine as it's also happened using a laptop, plus I've even reset my PC right back to its original factory state just to sure that nothing had become corrupted.
The network guys where I work have also looked at this and can find nothing at that end to cause this problem.
I've even borrowed another BT Hub and tried it through that - same problem.
So where does the answer lie? VPN issue? I've tried other VPN options - same problem. RDP problem? I've practically exhausted the list of suggested solutions that can be found by trawling the internet.
I even upgraded the broadband cable to replace the cheap old thing that has been working perfectly well in terms of broadband, again, to eliminate this as a possibility. Now I'm stumped.
To me, it looks like the problem lies between my router and the workplace network, i.e. a physical problem among the miles of lines connecting the two. Of course I don't want to shell out for a BT engineer to come out to investigate, so I thought that the combined wisdom of this community may have been able to help.
    Sadly not.

  • Connecting IMac to home cinema amp

Hi everyone, basically im looking to connect my IMac to my home cinema amp so that i can listen to audio through decent speakers. It'd be great if you guys could suggest the best way of doing this? Im guessing an optical digital cable would be best but i cant see an optical port on the IMac? i have seen speaker cables that hook into the headphone jack but im not sure if this will diminish the audio quality?
    Thanks
    Bunts

The headphone jack on your iMac also supports optical out (DD 5.1), you simply have to get the cable with optical connection for your amp the other end to connect to your iMac. Another suggestion based on where your home cinenma is in relationship to your iMac is to do a wirelss connection using an Airport Express. The Airport Express has a connection (the same as your iMac) that allows you to stream your music from your iMac to your home cinema.
I have my system set up as the latter because I have (what I consider) a nice home theater system, the amp/speaker section is much much much better than my iMac however I don't want wires all over the place.

  • Mac loses internet after wake from sleep, still connected to router

    Hi All,
So, I see similar threads, but I'm not sure if this is the same problem. Here's what happening:
-When I wake my Mac from sleep it usually (but not always) loses its internet (but not wifi) connection.
-The loss happens 10-15 seconds AFTER it wakes up. If I go to Safari/Firefox right after it wakes up, I can bring up webpages fine for about 10 seconds. Then, suddenly, pages stop loading.
-The wifi stays connected (I have an airport router) the whole time, and if I go to the airport utility, everything looks fine.
-I know this is not a problem with my internet or my router because I have tried opening web pages on both my iPhone (connected to wifi with cellular off) as well as my PC laptop (I only have it for one program that the company does not make for the Mac and I need for work, haha), and both browse the internet just fine even though my Mac says there is no internet.
-If I restart my Mac, the internet works fine. This is a simple fix, however it's also annoying to have to do it all the time.
-This is happening in different locations, not just on my wifi. It happens in coffee shops, hotels, and airports too.
-Not sure if this is related, but I have also been getting messages in iTunes saying that I need to authorize my computer or apps will be deleted.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
    Any suggestions???

What Mac OSX version are you running? "iOS 8.2" as currently shown in your profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple mobile devices.
If your computer has automatically connected to a lot of networks, say, during travel, that might hinder waking as the computer looks for what networks it remembers. Go to System Preferneces > Network and select your wirelss connection from the left-hand pane. Then click the "Advanced" button in the main pain. That will show the list of networks you Mac has stored:
There could be a lot. Clear out all networks stored there except those you use on a weekly basis. The little box with the "-" icon clears unwanted networks. Restart the computer and see if thising work better.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
Download and run Etrecheck, a safe way to post a snapshot of your config without revealing any personal information. I'm concerned you did not get all of Norton, or have some other dreck like CleanMyMac or MacKeeper lurking.

  • 75 meg when connected wired, 10 meg when wireless ...

can any one tell me why i get 75 meg when im connected with a wire but when downloading a film it says its downloading at 5 kbps, and when im wireless im 10 meg or under and the same speed downloading 5 kbps. and they charging me full wack for this **bleep**ty infinity, takes me 10-20 hrs to download a film. pls help

First thing i would try is updating the wireless drivers on the laptop.
Next i would consider interferance. ie where is the router located. is there a lot of metal and electronics near by. also where is the laptop situated. try it fairy clse to the router. with nothing in between.
also worth considering the age of the laptop and the operating system. Have you applied all updates? It may be worth applying all updates, deleting your wirelss connection and reconnecting again, particularly if you are using a 12 year old operating system like windows xp. if it is not up to date it you may not have the latest and possibly faster protocols. updating and recreating the connection might help in this case.
Unfortunately, there is not much you can adjust on the router itself that would help - that i can see anyway. on my hh3 it is not possible to select many options.

  • WXPSP2 - NCF blocks traffic after stand-by/ dropped connection

Ever since I installed SP2 for WXP the NCF is blocking all traffic after
coming back from stand-by on my laptop using a wirelss connection.
In order to get it to work again I have to shut the ncf down and restart it
    with the connection up.
The same thing happens if I am connected and the network re-establishes the
    connection after having dropped it.
For security reasons I tried to turn off the wireless, shutdown and restart
the ncf and then enable the wirelss again, but this does not work either.
I have to retart the ncf with the wireless enabled and connected.
I am currently runnning version 2.0 build 0727.
Is there maybe a specific setting or configuration to resolve this?
    Thanks

not that i'm aware of. novell knows about the issues with xp sp2 and
    is supposedly working on them.

  • HP B209 Wireless Set-up...HELP!!

Just purchased new HP B209 all-in-one.  Here's my set-up:  HP desktop PC running XP; internet delivery via Comcast modem to Belkin N+ wirelss router.  PC is not wirelss capable, so ethernet cable runs from wirelss router port to ethernet NIC card in PC.  Installed B209 using USB cable from printer to PC.  Install went as per instructions, worked fine.    Now I  want my new Toshiba laptop to be print capable.  Can I do this while leaving the printer attached via USB to the desktop PC?  Do I have to remove the USB cable and establish a wirelss connection between my Belkin router and the printer?  This is so confusing!  What is the best way to set this up?  Thanks!
P.S.  I did attempt the "Change the HP Photosmart from a USB connection to a network connection" step, and when asked to select the printer, my printer was available.  However, after selecting it and going to the next step, I got an alert stating that the printer was not connected...it was!

Tried the wireless install with no luck.  Uninstalled everything and called HP support.  Support states that you have to hook the desktop to the printer via USB...no way around it.  So, intall with USB printer works great, but cannot get either my XP or Windows 7 laptops to connect wirelessly.  Call HP support again.  Long story short....after 2 hours and 13 minutes on the phone with HP support, even they cannot get a single laptop to connect wirelessly.  Two hours of my life I'll never get back....
No MAC filtering, changed wireless router to channel 11, changed all modes of security (WEP, WPA, WPA2), even turned security off.  No luck.  The printer passed all internal tests.  I know my router is good..so is the laptop.  What else do I try?
I've been an HP dude for a long time now, but this is probably the straw that has broken the camel's back.  If HP support can't get it to connect wireless, how am I supposed to be able to?  I paid for a wireless printer, so I guess I'll take it back and try another brand, though I hate to.  This really sucks.  Vent complete!

  • Wireless WRT54G is not able to do wireless and setup menu is out of whack

    Ok,
So I got a laptop with my new job and I figured hey I would love to surf the web wireless at home (laptop's wirelss connection works at work). I bought a Linksys WRT54G router Monday and attempted to replace my old trusty linksys 4 port BEFSR41 router that I've had since like 2000. The setup was incredibly easy and my desktop (which is wired) had internet. My laptop however still doesn't.
My laptop will attempt to acquire network address and Send packets but will receive none. I can view the wireless network that I set up but can't connect to it. So I went into the old trusty router menu at 192.168.1.1 and here's what I see. I see this both when using IE and firebox browsers on both my laptop and Desktop.
It appears my router is toasted? I've restarted it and reset it a couple times. Any ideas?

As the computer wired to the router is able to go online, make sure that when connecting wirelessly you are entering the correct encryption key. To verify the encryption key …..on the computer wired to the router …… open Internet explorer ……in the address bar type http://192.168.1.1 (default IP address). Leave the username field blank  and in the password type “admin” ( Default Password). When setup page loads fully click on the tab that says…wireless….. Check the wireless network name SSID......it should be the same name as that of your wireless network......just below main tab  wireless click on the sub tab that says wireless security. Verify the security key here. If you are using WEP security….make sure that you are enter the WEP key for connection and not the passphrase.
U can also try changing the network name...wireless channel....security setting and then connecting to the new network from the wireless computer.
     Try upgrading the router firmware.

  • N95 satnav: "No WLAN network found"

What does this message mean, which pops up when I am trying to use the satnav (satnav won't work if this message appears).
If I select 'OK' to this message; the following message appears: "No internet connection. Please check your Network settings". What does this message mean and how do I do that?

You know I have the same problem with this handset but can I get anyone to take ownership for the fault? Can I heck!
First I blamed the sat nav manufacturer, then the network and more and more investigation seems to point at the handset manufacturer. I have noted that when I get this problem my handeset acts up. Let me tell!
I boot my N95 up from powered off and it works fine with Sat Nav traffic services.
Get to my destination and switch off Sat nav and walk away. If the N95 rings when I answer the call I then find that I have to choose "options", "handset" to take the call. The N95 has not dropped the Bluetooth connection and a headset icon is displayed on display. If I dont take a call and then return to the car my traffic services no longer work and I too get the same messages such as Wirelss connection not available. The only way I have found to fix this is to power down the N95 for fifteen minutes and then try again. This usually works until I end my journey and have the same problem again. I have upgraded the firmware on the handset and sat nav to the latest versions but still not fixed. I had a similar fault with the 6280 prior to upgrade. Is this a fault in general with Nokia bluetooth services? Anyone got ananswer?

  • Long pauses and some crashes

    Hallo,
I got my first macbook some days ago and I see some strange behavior that I hope somebody knows and could explain.
The first boot out of the box was ok till I come to "user picture" setup window. From there, with camera active, the computer has started to take some long pauses: I often got the round rolling cursor and I just have to wait... but I don't know wait what. Anyway I have completed the setup and got OS X running. Unfortunally it was starting to do the same on the OS too; I have made a couple of restarts but nothing was changing.
So I take the OS X dvd and I made a new fresh installation of the os.
Things went much better from there...but not always.
Sometimes the round rolling curson comes out and I have to "wait for something". I have tried to use the monitor utility but I didn't find any service wasting cpu or memory when that happens.
I was thinking about hdd movement protection, but it happens when the notebook is on the desk too...
I was thinking about power saving shuting down the hdd when not in use, but I cannot hear start/stop noise and it takes too much time.
So I really don't understand what could be.
A couple of times things went more badly: I start to see the "wait cursor", than all starts to become slower...and finally the cursor hangs too, I cannot do anything.. just listen the fan running faster. I have tried the key combination to kill services but it doesn't work. So I just had to press power button for some seconds
Do anybody have some idea or suggestion about understanding this issue?
By my side I could give these more datails:
    - I have installed the last version of parallels desktop;
    - I have upgraded the RAM from 1 GB to 2GB, but the problem was the same before and after;
    - I have run the hardware test form OS X DVD and no error was found.
    thank you

I have moved some steps ahead:
    - I see that by changing network properties the locks frequency was changing, expecially when disabling wirelss connection;
    - I have removed the HDD and replaced it with another one where I have reinstalled OS X while the computer was connected to the network (and to the Internet) by a wired connection. Using this new installation and using basic wireless settings, leaving default values and a computer to computer ad hoc wireless connection all has worked well for more then one day. I was able to do all without any pause, or the only pauses were due to hdd heavy usage by virtual machine installation under Fusion. OS X update was not installed.
After this "heavy" use of the notebook with this new hdd and no pauses at all, I have switched back to the original hdd: the computer have immediately started to slow down and leave me wait and wait...
To be really sure I have now booted in XP using bootcamp partition and I have installed and executed the Fujitsu HDD Diagnostic Tool with Extended Drive test. No errors were found on the drive.
I am now going to reinstall OS X on the original drive using wired network and default wireless setting to check if this will be enought to have the system work well like in the test hdd.
If this happens like I suppose and hope I am going to think that there are heavy problems with the wireless software on OS X. I will let you know.
Not really a very easy and fast start in using Mac computer and OS X... for now windows and pc are still better... macbook is nicer sure.
