What do you do when BT are ignoring you?

Hi.  I don't know what else I can do to get an explanation/apology from BT.  I phoned the 150 number because I was unable to call out on my phone and was later told no-one could call in either.  Assuming a fault I used mobile to call it in. One hour 30 mins later I was passed over to the first person I spoke too!  The second day wasn't much better and I e-mailed the customer complaints. I am still waiting to hear from them.  Eventually someone with some inteligence understood what I was saying - initially I had tried to get my lodger's name removed as bill holder (he has left country) and have my name on instead leaving everything else exactly the same. This was a 2 part action the account would be 'closed' and I would 'open' it again on same day 28.6.11.  No.  apparently I was told by someone they couldn't open account for me and order was cancelled.  I was told to ring back in 7 days and go through the procedure again.  On the 2nd the phoneline was 'closed' but of course, I didn't take it over.  This was the problem which was caused by BT taking action on an aborted order!  I want someone to acknowledge their administrative action caused and is causing problems.  I now have set up a new account but of course have now got a new number one of the things I wanted to avoid happening as I am actually disabled and need my telephone to keep in touch with my supporters/hospital/etc.  I now need to contact them all and advise of new number and I have to wait until the 6th to have the line connected again!! Surely BT have enough experience to pull these things together? Instead of trying to sell us broadband/Tv and the like it would be good to concentrate on getting the basics right I would think.  Anyone got an idea on who to contact or how to get someone aty BT to acknowledge that we the customer keep these people in employment.

Hi notmyproblemmate
I'll be happy to help you out with this and get your line back on asap.  I cant guarantee your old number but will try and get this back for you too.
Could you drop me in an email please with your BT account and telephone number along with a link back to this thread.
Just send using the contact us form in my profile under the 'about me' section.
Thx

You should reinstall OS X. See the following for reinstalling instructions for Lion/Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • What happens to files when they are deleted on the iPhone?

When you delete files like videos, podcasts or emails directly on the iPhone by swiping it and hitting the "Delete" button what happens to these files? Are they instantly removed from disk or they go to some sort of "Recycle Bin"?
Do you know that bar on iTunes showing how your iPhone disk is being used, with "Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Other and Free"?
I wonder if having more than 4Gb on the "Other" category is related to this practice in any way?

Other includes data such as 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, email stored or cached locally including email attachments, Safari history, cookies, and cache, notes, voice memos, visual voicemail, contacts, calendar events, etc.

  • What do you do when there are massive data per row?

I am just looking for ideas. I have about 90 characters too long for the CR report line. The ones going over are 3 address columns. Looking for ideas how to design the report.

    hi Paul,
what do you want it to look like?
if you it to stop before 90, then right click on the field and go to Format Field > Common tab > Display String and use a formula like
    currentfieldvalue[1 to N]
where N is the length that you want the field to stop at.
you can also use the Tooltip dialogue with
    currentfieldvalue
should you wish to have the end user be able to see the entire field with a mouse over.

  • What do I use when Migration Assistant reads "you might not be able to transfer using firewire on this computer"?

When using Migration Assistant to transfer from one Mac to another Mac, as soon as I get to the point where it says to connect the firewire to each computer, it says "You might not be able to transfer using Firewire on this computer". What do I use then?

I don't know if it's the Tiger or the Leopard.
10.4.x is Tiger; 10.5.x is Leopard.
I've not used the Tiger version of Migration Assistant (just Leopard and later), and there's not much in the way of Apple tech articles for it anymore.
Since the message says "might not," I don't see any reason not to give it a try.  At worst, it will fail and perhaps leave a partially-transferred user account on the G5.  If that happens, we can deal with it.
I'd make sure the connections are snug and secure, and try it.
Good luck, and keep us posted.
I don't have any backups of the G4 and I don't have an external drive and I don't know anyone who has one.
If your data is important to you, invest in one . . . soon, and start making regular backups.  They're not very expensive (some as cheap as $50, good ones perhaps $100). Disk drives fail, especially after a few years, other things go wrong, and even the most careful users make mistakes now and then.

  • What does it mean when addressees are red highlighted?

When I go to select adressees I get some redhighlighted and they stay that way

    One of two things
If you have not updated to Version 31 it means that the address is not in one of your address books
If you are on Version 31 it shows how bad they broke the address book.
I have not updated to v31 because of all the problems with it so I cannot tell you if they have fixed this bug yet.

  • How do you know when the person that you've shared the file with has downloaded the file?

After the person get the email that says "I am sharing these files with you.   Click on the image below to view or download your file.", how do you know that they've viewed or downloaded the file?  Do you get an email message or is there something in the shared status that lets you know?

Thank you for your post. Although this is a feature for Buzzword, right now it's not possible to know if someone has viewed a file you've sent via Share. We are working to integrate Share/My Files/Buzzword so that this will be corrected in future.

  • Thought I already asked this, but don't see it.  Want to know what the "Render" feature is for and how you use it.

I've watched several of the tutorials.  I was able to upload a video yesterday to YouTube, but today, I made a new video, and after three tries, never could get it to upload.  Kept getting an error asking if I wanted to TRY AGAIN.
As I was editing my video, the sound never seemed to work right with the video.  The video would freeze, and the sound would keep going.  Strange.  I figured I needed to push "Render", but have no idea what it does.  Can't find a tut on it.
Any help will be much appreciated.  I have six versions of PS, and I have never been able to get videos to upload to YouTube except for the one I got to go yesterday.  Failure today.

Big question. After you pressed the Render button and the Timeline rendering was completed, did the video portion play back better in the Edit area monitor?
Timeline rendering is just a preview feature. It does not fix a problem. It is the program telling you if you are viewing the best possible preview that the project has to offer. The program uses a color indicator line over the Timeline content to tell you if you are seeing the best possible preview.
No color line  or green line = you are seeing the best possible preview, no Timeline rendering needed or available. In this condition, if you hit the Render button, all you will do is play back the Timeline content in the monitor...no Timeline Rendering. An orange line over the Timeline content is the program telling you that you do not have the best possible preview and in order get that you need do Timeline rendering. You can do that
    a. pressing the Render button above the Timeline area
    b. going to Timeline Menu/Render Work Area or use the shortcut for that, just press the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard.
You do not have to do Timeline rendering, but it is your window of opportunity to catch a problem sooner than later. It is particularly indicated
when for titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats.
And, if you are getting the orange line over content suggesting that you do Timeline rendering, you can select the area where you
want the rendering done under that orange line.....you set the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span the area that you want rendered.
Also, the process of Timeline rendering deposits preview files on your hard drive automatically. These preview fields for a SD project are DV AVI files (whether you render a still or video file) and for HD project are MPEG2.mpg files (whether you render a still or video file). You should keep watch for pile ups of those preview files if you are getting in a free hard drive space crunch.
    Screenshot from Premiere Elements 11
This screenshot is from Premiere Elements 12
I could go on and on about Timeline Rendering. Do you want more?
As for the workflow problems that you are now having, have we discussed them before. I will look for any of your prior threads to see
if we have talked about these problems before.
Please let me know if you are OK with the above.
    Thanks.

When I plug in my external LaCie drive I get an error message "the disc you inserted was not readable by this computer."
The only options offered are "ignore" or "eject"
Disk Utility sees the disc but does not give a repair option.
    What can I do?

The good thing about mac-centric resellers such as OWC, is they have people on staff that can answer questions without you buying things first. They also have how-to information, and instructions are included in many of their products. I saw a link to watch a DIY video in one of their pages; an example of a RAID (with its own power supply) is shown on their drives page. Also a few in there, with no power supplies, for less money.
If I were looking to backup and perhaps also have a partition for a system clone, I'd consider something like one of these: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/eSATA_FW800_FW400_USB
Some ideas on the RAID backup methods appear in google search, some of the pages are ideas and concepts; and the better ones also warn about using RAID for the only backup plan.
Oh, OWC has live chat. Haven't tried it, nor have I bought anything from them. I have what appears to be two products from them, but have not used either. One is in a box as-new, but has only USB2.0 ports & my Macs needed FW400/800. It has been said their RAM is a good way to upgrade, too. But I can't confirm!
A 'RAID-ready' unit for backup may be more versatile for just that, but I have not checked into these details. I use single HDDs in powered enclosures, and usually manually make backup clones to FW drives, of bootable OS X systems. Some of the OWC raid-ready use eSATA ports so that may not be viable for a computer without them.
The unused in-box external drive I have is like the base model in the link above. However mine is USB2.0 (maybe) and won't boot my older Macs due to hardware variance; and my preference would be for FireWire options, these models do offer that. But the one I have does not. Dual 500GB HDDs, and they could be used in tandem as a RAID. That would be a choice set up in software. I'm not sure and not interested enough to read up just now.
    My backup method is not automatic, or a moving backup plan, if I don't get a move-on and make full system clones. I do make copies of photos and documents the manual way, to USB external drives; and occasionally backup to DVD or CD media. And USB flash, that helps to move files between computers without need to use file sharing via wi-fi. {Like Why fly? Walking is better exercise unless one is a bird. Squawk!}
    https://www.google.com/#q=raid+backup+mac
Depending on the ports in your Mac, you may be able to use other cables to attach between a backup or externally enclosed hard disk drive with multiple partition and bootable clone in one of them. Not sure about the Thunderbolt, and where that is the main port, adapters are required to access other devices, as allowed.
Anyway, I am going on and on, yet not really saying anything.
My ideas would not be all that interesting to follow as a backup
plan when matching available newer hardware to task, but you
can get some into better ideas if you are not in a rush. Get a
good setup and then look into more an betterer stuff.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I use Week Cal on the iPod.  I think it was only $1.99.  It is a lot better and does a lot more than the one that came with the Palm Pilot.
As you know, unlike the Palm Pilot, the iPod does not come with a desktop application that you can sync your iPod calendar to.  Since I don't use Outlook, I have to use a Cloud based calendar to sync with my PC.  I use Hotmail's calendar for that.  (If your computer is a MAC, you can use iCal)
