What exactly is being synced in Mail?

In System Preferences>.Mac>Sync there is a checkbox for Mail, another one for Mail Settings (or so, I can't check because I have a keychain error that does not allow me to get to the Sync page). Can anyone tell me what exactly it is, that is being synced??? I understand that the mail (i.e messages) itself are being synced between Macs in a different way.
Thanks for any light (or any pointers) you can throw onto this difficult subject.
Thanks in advance.

I take this question off the forum, although it is not answered.

I have an iPhone 4.  I would like to transfer music from my HP computer to the phone.  The music appears on my iTunes page on the computer but I cannot figure out how to transfer it to the phone.  I'd also like to transfer the phone numbers on my phone to my computer (so I can keep them on my backup drive in case something happens to the phone).  When I connect the computer and the phone, it says it's 'syncing' but I certainly can't figure out what's being 'synced'.  The only thing I've ever been able to transfer at all are photos from the phone to the computer.  If I must upgrade my phone system to 6.1 to do thi, I am reluctant to try that because it says I must save things or they will be lost (e.g. music I've purchased, phone directory, etc) - which I have no clue how to do.  My nearest Apple store can only be reached by plane (in Honolulu).  Thanks for any help.

  • How can I tell what exactly is being distributed from the SCCM server to a client

    Hi,
If I know an IP Address of a client machine, is there a way I can see what SCCM is exactly sending to that particular machine at that moment in time?
    thanks.

Also, there is no way to see traffic "at that moment in time".
ConfigMgr is just not a "real-time" product.
As Jörgen said the best you can get is to look at the client logs.

  • OK, So What Exactly Is Being Copied/Updated Here?

    Hi,
Since the last time I synced my 32GB iPod Touch, I've added just ONE song to my iTunes library and played a bunch of songs which were already in my library.
I've just synced my iPod Touch now and the message I get (along the top of the iTunes window) is :-
    "Updating Files"........> "Copying 1 of 42"
Why does the iPod not just copy the one song I've added to my library since the previous sync?
Does the iPod also 'update' or 'copy' all the songs I've played via iTunes since the previous sync?
I've only added the one new song, no artwork or lyrics or any other stuff.
Anything I can do to stop the iPod seemingly updating all of the recently played songs? I'm using USB 1.1 so it's pretty slow........
Also, the audio content drops from 10.26GB to 10.10GB and then slowly increases again to 10.26GB by the end of the syncing process......
    Thanks in advance...

Hi, thanks for the replies. Much appreciated!
Neuroanatomist :- I've not adjusted anything related to the songs such as volume/EQ etc. Nor do I have iTunes to automatically get artwork. I will make a note of this point though for next time.
Chris CA :- regarding Smart Playlists, I've just checked the 'recently played' Smart Playlist in my iTunes and it's been updated with all the songs which have been played on my iPod today. So it's syncing from the iPod to iTunes.
It's kind of spooky because I can track what time I set off for work in my car (8.10am) and then what time I arrived at work (8.30am) and any journey during my day when I have the iPod playing!!
Would "manually manage music etc" stop the iPod syncing to update my 'recently played' Smart Playlist iTunes?
If not, I'm going to have to sync regularly so as not to be stuck with a massive sync update from iPod to iTunes.
BTW hope this all makes sense..
    Thanks again.......

  • What content is being synced?

I have Apple TV 2.0 and it is working very well. I have perhaps 30 movies (mostly from ITunes U) and lots of podcasts on it and subscribe to a number of podcasts so there is usually some new content.
Whenever I reopen ITunes, when I click on the device Apple TV it appears to be RE-syncing movies that I already have on the device...the progress bar at the top will say "copying..." but the thing being copied is often something I already have on the Apple TV. Anyone know about this behavior? I have "custom sync" enabled also...if I change something it does not need to resync everything, does it?

I take this question off the forum, although it is not answered.

  • What exactly happens when syncing two PCs having truly conflicting settings (not just different tabs or bookmarks to be merged)? Is one defined as a master?

While different tabs or bookmarks can simply be added/merged (see question of handysubman one year ago), more differentiated rules are required when conflicting settings have been defined, e.g. different starting pages, or different volumes/folders to save downloads, or different applications to open specific file types...
Is one of the machines defined as a master, or are individual conflicts left to the user to solve, or... ?

When you setup Sync you should have seen the Setup Options window. That is the "control" for which set of data to use. IOW the "Master" at time of setup when adding each "new device". After that all devices are equal partners. ''FirefoxHome on iOS devices and Firefox on Android devices vary a bit from the way the desktop versions work.
If you want different settings per device, de-select those settings from being synchronized. i.e., Preferences for Homepage, download folder, and MIME-types

  • Current Situation - what exactly is being shipped today?

If I order a display today what will be shipped? Anyone any insight? Seems a silly question, but are the old spec displays now gone? Still seems that one or two are still popping up.

I talked to an apple product specialist ...He said all the displays made after March 06 are the ones with the new specs....
Because so many much older displays were still floating around in stores ...Apple did not want to announce the update as of yet ..(In order to protect their stores etc.} They did do this though much later (very quitly) , I think sometime in August 06 by way of changing the specs and prices on the Apple sales page (but not yet on their specs sheet of the apple supportpage}..He told me though he would make sure that those specs ( on the support page} would be changed into the new specs as well.....
In an other thread on this subject, was mentionned that the contrast ratio is very changeable and very hard to measure...
Also I understand that Apple uses components from different sources and when one component runs out they will use another component for the next badge.....
So its not as clean cut or black and white as some of us (me included) initially thought...
Also some people seem to receive screens which are brighter and with more saturated colours than others ...
How is your screen????? Mine is similair to my one year old one except the swivel mechanism is less smooth and can make a crackling noise when swiveled...

  • What's the difference between E-mail and Sync e-ma...

My gmail account on my 5800 doesn't update automatically anymore.
Does it have something to do with the account being under the 'E-mail' header and not the 'Sync e-mail' one? What's the difference between these too?

If you assign your gmail account to the sync email app when you first open sync email it asks you for mailbox in use, chose the one you want to use and set the time between sync , access point etc. The basic difference is manual and automatic (unless someone can come up with a definative technical explanation that will give you a better answer ) just go to options-settings in messaging and you should be able to get it working !
    Good Luck

  • Sync - merge - what EXACTLY do these terms mean?

Howdy. I recently plunged into the iPhone world & I'm LOVING IT!!!!!!
So, what exactly does SYNC & MERGE mean? what will be the final results?
with my iPod shuffle, I'm able to "auto fill" from a folder of pre-selected podcasts in iTunes. After listening to the iPod for awhile, I reconnect the iPod to iTunes (on the computer) & the podcasts in iTunes are updated as with actions taken on the iPod. for example, iTunes on the computer will indicate wether or not I listened to these particular podcasts on the iPod or not, & will also remember where I left off. So it seems that the iPod updates iTunes on the computer.
But, ... this does NOT seem to be the same with the iPhone. It seems like when I plug in my iPhone to the computer & "sync", iTunes isn't updated as to what I already watched on the iPhone, like the iPod did. In order to update iTunes with what i already watched on the iPhone, I need to manually delete the vidcasts from the iTunes on the computer, which seems like a step back from my little iPod shuffle.
ALSO: if I change contact information on my iPhone, will this updated info be lost when I connect the iPhone to the Computer?
So what exactly does SYNC & MERG mean?
It seems that the iPhone reacts differently for different media. I'm very confused & I wish there was a place to understand all this without the generic "sync" word being used without explanation. does sync mean replace, update, ... ????
I've been searching around the net for this info for awhile, but all I find is these terms, without sufficient information as to what exactly MERGE & SYNC actually do.
Can someone suggest some place that explains this in the detail I'm looking for?
    Thanks so much.
    Jesse Luke

Under the Podcasts tab for your iPhone sync preferences, there are various options. I have sync all unplayed episodes of selected podcasts to be transferred to my iPhone. If I listen to an podcast on my iPhone in it's entirety, the podcast will be removed from my iPhone when syncing with iTunes.
The iPhone includes a sync process - some of the data included with the sync process is a one way transfer process only from your computer to your iPhone such as iTunes music, and the same for selected photos to be transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
The sync process for contact info, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on your computer is a bidirectional or true sync process. When syncing an iPhone for contact info the first time with a supported application on your computer that includes contact info, you will be provided a merge prompt if your iPhone includes any contact info that was manually entered in your iPhone's address book. This will merge the contact info between the two. After the first sync or merge for this data, it will be a bidirectional or true sync process. Change info for a contact on your iPhone, and the info will be changed for the contact info with the supported address book on your computer when followed by a sync, and vice-versa. Add a new contact with the supported address book on your computer, and the new contact will be transferred to your iPhone's address book during the next sync, and vice versa. The same applies to calendar events when syncing with a supported calendar app on your computer.

  • HT4859 when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer?

when you go to do this it say that your iPod or whichever device will no longer be backed up to the computer it is currently backed up to, what exactly does that mean? Will i not be able to sync my iPod from that computer? Please help me and answer either or both question detailed thanks

Normally when you sync your device it is automatically backed up to your computer as the first step in the sync process.  When you choose to start backing up your device to iCloud, iTunes stops automatically backing it up on your computer when you sync.  That's what the message is telling your; that you are now backing up to iCloud and not to your computer each time you sync.  You can still manually back up to your computer any time you want by going to the Summary tab and clicking on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.
You can still sync your device as you did before, it just will no longer back up automatically when you do.

  • What exactly is consists of the "other" category in the capacity bar at the bottom of the sync window?

What exactly is consists of the "other" category in the capacity bar at the bottom of the sync window?

Not actually, his statement is to not worry about what is in Other. That is opposite from iOS, if you have 8GB of other you most likely have corrupted files on your iPhone and you need to Restore to eliminate them.

  • Sync: what exactly does it do?

The generic articles on Syncing don'y tell me EXACTLY what it means to Sync two machines.  I just foiund out the hard way.  I reorganized and deleted Bookmarks on my computer, plugged i my iPhone to Sync with the computer, but the iPhone dominated and now all of my Bookmarks are in the unwanted previous state.  Whty would the iPhone dominate the Sync.  All of my important information is on my Mac Pro.  But I've read the articles and they really don't explain very well what Syning is.  Can I revert back to my re-orgainized Bookmarks on my Mac Pro?

Thank you, that helps.  Here's my frustration with the terminology Apple uses.  "Synch" doesn't synch.  In other words, to transfer content that I purchased on my iPad from my iPad to the MacBook, I have to take steps that are NOT inherently obvious, and are NOT explained (at least clearly) in any Apple Support or documentation.  I would think that the "Synch" button would do that because that's what the word synch (synchronize) means.  As far as I can figure out, the "Synch" button (at the bottom right of the main iTunes screen and seen when I select my iPad from the left column in iTunes) only transfers the music files.  I have to right-click on the iPad icon to get an option to "transfer purchases from [my] iPad".  If I don't do that first, when I upgrade the OS, I lose everything on my iPad that I didn't manually move to the MacBook.  Or so the warning box says.  Also, after "transferring purchases to the MacBook", how do I know the apps were transferred?  When I go to the Apps view in iTunes, the apps are greyed out.  So if I click on "Synch", the dialog box asks me if I'm sure I want to do that, because all existing apps and their data on the iPad will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."  So I still don't know how to be confident that all the apps purchased on my iPad that ARE ON the MacBook.  So then I have to right-click and select "back-up" and hope there's not some other step that I didn't know about that will result in lost apps or iBook files or who knows what else!

  • What Exactly XI ALL And XIPAYLOAD in Mail Adapter

    Hi All,
What Exactly XI ALL And XIPAYLOAD Message protocol in Mail Adapter.
What  is the Major Difference Between these two.
    Please let me Know
    Regards
    Babu

    Hi
    ●      XIALL
In this mode, the content of the RF C822 e-mail matches the content of the XI message. The XI message is a multipart MIME message with a SOAP envelope as its first part. See also: Structure linkMessages, under XI Message Protocol.
    ●      XIPAYLOAD
In this mode, the content of the e-mail is put in the payload of the XI message. If you do not set the Use Mail Package indicator, the information about the sender (From), receiver (To), and subject of the e-mail is lost.
