What is JRE?

Hi
I am afraid this case is appropriate for a forum's purpose.
My OS is solaris 9 x86 for intel.
I logged in as oracle user , then start Oracle 8.1.7 installer with this command
# ./runinstaller
The error message was
"The Java RunTime Environment was not found ../stage/componenets/oracle.swd.jre/.1.1.8.10/DatatFiles/Expanded/jre/solaris/jre.
Hence, The oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher and try again."
When I checked my java version with command "java -fullversion", it was 1.4.1.
How can I launched Oracle Installer?

See Note on Oracle Metalink:
Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) Reports ''Java Runtime Environment Was Not Fou 262549.1
Summary:
Apparently, under circumstances, unzipping the zipped CD 1 file downloaded from OTN resulted in incorrect directory names. The solution to this problem is unzipping the CD download(s) again and veryfying the actual directories on harddisk match the directories in the zip files.
You can of course also use the original distribution CD's.

    Hi
when I want to download the J2S 1.4.1, I can choose JRE and SDK.
What's what and what's the difference?

If you only want to use Java programs, get the JRE.
If you want to develop Java programs, get the SDK.

  • What is the difference between JRE,JVM and JDK?

plz reply me to the following question
    (1)what is JRE,JVM and JDK?

The JRE is a java distribution for running java programs. It does not contain the development tools needed to compile and debug java programs.
The JDK is a java distribution for both running and developing java programs. In includes the deveopment tools.
The JVM is part of both the JDK and the JRE. It is the 'engine' that executes java bytecodes, performs garbage collection and does just-in-time compilation.

  • JRE with an external proxy

I'm hoping there is someone who can give some information on using JRE (with IE plugin) with an external proxy server.
We use a web proxy service that is hosted externally and only receives web requests on port 8080. Our IE browser is configured with a PAC (automatic configuration script) file that lists two external addressses and one internal proxy address all on port 8080.
I am trying to access an externally hosted web site (with lots of Java applets) from our corporate network and this fails when using an external proxy service.
Using JRE 1.4.2 we did a network trace and can see a request going to the external proxy on port 8080 but whatever the response is or what the JRE receives back, it doesn't like it and tries the next proxy address in the list and fails to connect.
In the JRE console, I see the following text when the connection fails (real addresses replaced)
Ping the proxy server <external proxy IP #1> on port 8,080
Proxy server <external proxy IP #1> on port 8,080 can not be reached
Ping the proxy server <external proxy IP #2> on port 8,080
Proxy server <external proxy IP #2> on port 8,080 can not be reached
Ping the proxy server <internal proxy IP > on port -1
Proxy server <internal proxy IP > on port -1 can not be reached
Does anyone know what the 'Ping the proxy server' is trying to do to detect the external proxy server? Whatever it is, it doesn't like the external ones and only works with the internal one. I'm assuming this is not a simple ICMP ping as the network trace shows a TCP request on port 8080 going to the external proxy and nothing coming back. I would like to know if it could be something the external proxy is blocking (so I could ask the supplier to change). I've looked at a good trace just using the internal proxy but can't see what type of response JRE accepts.
Later versions of JRE have the same issue except they resolve the last proxy (the internal one) correctly and still won't use the external proxies.
If there is anyone who can advise me on this or point me in the direction of some documention I would be very grateful.

Yes, add them to iTunes. The fact that they are on an external doesn't stop them from being in iTunes.
If necessary, create a separate library which you just use when you have the external connected.
Alternatively, if you have an iPhone or iPad you could check out an App like Air Video, which displays video that isn't in iTunes on your device. I think you can then use Airplay to get it onto your ATV.

  • Automated JRE intall

Ok I've got my executable jar file and now I want to distribute it to lots of users who don't want to know what a JRE is. Are there any freeware/shareware tools or install wizards to download an appropiate JRE version and install it with no pain or education required for the user.
Also can you change the icon displayed for a jar file?

    hi,
I already have these codes in my batch file:

    java.exe -classpath f:\jdbc\lib\classes111.zip;f:\hrd\healthscreen\cFrame.jar cFrame
    exit
I'm not sure where I should I include the "java -jre..." line. hence when I include that line, i get error message like:

  • Installation issues with JRE, Auto Update, win 2008 and terminal services

    Hello,
We have seven Windows 2008 servers running Terminal Services in one TS farm. I have approximately 600 users accessing these servers. We have a need for the Java JRE. The JRE is to be installed on each of the seven servers since the user has no input into which server they log on to (round robin / load balancing)
There are several issues that have occurred with this installation. I install the JRE on each of the servers when there is no one logged on. I turn off both of the update features while installing as administrator. When the users log on, however they are at some point prompted for an admin password to update Java. The users have no need to update java as all updates will be performed by the system admin. Additionally, when the user runs any app that uses the Java plug-in, they get a folder put on their desktop labeled Sun.
Are there special instructions for installing Java when using Terminal Services and Windows 2008? As you can well see, 600 calls to the help desk asking about this update popup is not productive and accessing 600 users accounts and turning off the auto update on an individual basis is not practical. The user cannot disable this update anyway. They options are grayed out at the user level.
If this is not the proper forum to ask these question, please forward this message to the proper department or let me know who I should/could contact to resolve these issues.
    Best regards,
    Bob

When the users login the terminal server picks up there local timezone from the machine they are logging in from and apply's it to there terminal server session. The problem is when the jre is launched it is picking up the server timezone, not the timezone from the users session(which is different).
    Does this clarify it?Nope.
Either the user is running the jre or the server is. Or maybe both. Seems like all of those are possible from your explanation.
It doesn't matter what the jre is running. What matters is who runs the jre.
Best I can suppose your situation is as follows.
    - The server, not a user, is running a jre with one or more applications.
    - The users use something, probably a browser, to access that server app (it doesn't even matter that it is java in terms of what the users are doing.)
If and only if that is your situation then you MUST pass information from the browser session to the server (java or anything else for that matter) and you MUST use that information in the server code to display time information.

    What I do is this...
I install exactly the JDK I want to use with Eclipse, usually the
latest. Not merely a JRE, but the JDK. And I do it locally, not for my
host. I let the host's notion of JRE be whatever it wants to be.
I run Eclipse wired up to my own private JDK.
This way, I know what JDK/JRE I'm running Eclipse on and what I'm using
    to develop Java code to.

  • Problem with Simultaneous JRockit Installations on Windows

    Hi,
I have two instances of JRockit installed on Windows XP - 1.4.2_08-b03 and 1.5.0_04-b05.
I require this configuration to support two projects which use these versions independently of each other.
Having installed 1.4 and then 1.5 (in that order), execution of "java -version" from an arbitrary directory yields 1.5 as the operative installation.
There is no reference to either installation in the PATH environment variable.
Adding the 1.4 bin to the PATH, has no effect - "java -version" still returns 1.5 as the operative version.
What has the Windows distribution of JRockit 1.5 done as an alternative to modifying the PATH environment variable? What can I do in order to "select" the appropriate version at the appropriate time?
The only way that I can get "java -version" to reply with 1.4 as the operative version is if I type this command under the 1.4 bin directory.
Very frustrated - any help would be greatly appreciated?
    Matt Hansen

    Matt,
when installing the JRockit JRE on Windows, the launcher files java.exe and
javaw.exe (and in some earlier versions that support Java Plugin and Java
Web Start also javaws.exe and jpicpl32.cpl) are automatically copied to the
system directory, e.g. c:\winnt\system32 (see GetSystemDirectory Windows
    API).
This is identical behaviour to the Sun JRE installer.
The system invariant is that if there are multiple JREs installed on the
machine then the JRE with the highest version number will be integrated with
the system, i.e. having java.exe and javaw.exe in the system directory, be
associated to automatically launch .jar files, etc.
In your case 1.5.0_04 is higher than 1.4.2_08 and no matter what
installation order, the java.exe and javaw.exe from 1.5.0_04 will exist in
    the system directory.
It is always possible to update %PATH% by ensuring that the <jrehome>/bin
directory of the preferred JRE appears before the windows system directory
    in %PATH%.
But since you need to support two different projects it wold be simpler for
you to have two CMD/BAT files, e.g. go_jre_14.cmd and go_jre_15.cmd that
updates the PATH variable before you start working on either of the two
different projects. Also, most IDE tools like e.g. Eclipse, allows you to
explicitly define what JDK/JRE you need to work with for each different
    project.
    Best Regards
    /Robert

  • Applet, Netscape and Opera but not IE, encore

I've got the following trivial applet that runs under Netscape and Opera, but not under IE. It's also at www.MartinRinehart.com as the ColorChooser choice. There's a half dozen Dukes from previous posts, and my sincere gratitude for anyone who can tell me what I need to do so IE doesn't say "Load: class CCApplet not found."
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.awt.Button;
    import java.awt.Label;
    public class CCApplet extends java.applet.Applet {
         public void start() {
              Label l = new Label( "CCApplet!" );
              setLayout( new BorderLayout() );
              add( l, BorderLayout.NORTH );
              add( new Button("South"), BorderLayout.SOUTH );
} // end of class CCAppletThe .class is in the same directory as the .html. Putting it in a .jar doesn't seem to matter. My IE runs other applets from the web, but not the ones I write. Thanks in advance.

The applet runs for me in IE with 1.5.0_02, XP Pro (current updates), with class and html files in same directory.
Check that everything in IE's Java Plug-in is valid and correct. Check IE's Internet Options.
What JVM version are you wanting the applet to be able to run with? What does this statement mean? "...most visitors can use without knowing what a JRE is."
To get greatest compatibility, use code that conforms to the 1.1 API, compile to that target version, possibly use the old 1.1 libraries, and then test each jvm. (BTW - Swing has limited compatibility - it isn't MS compatible, and wasn't [Sun] standard until jvm version 1.2.)

  • ADMIRAL database on SQL 2008 R2 Named Instance

    Hi,
we are running  TES 6.1.0.133 (test Master) upon a remote SQL 2005 SP4 named instance database, all is right.
I need to move the ADMIRAL database to an SQL 2008 R2 SP1 named instance.
What JDBC, JRE and connection string do I need to succeed ?
The versions are JRE 1.6.0.30, Microsoft JDBC 4.0.
thank in advance you for your experience,
    Frederic

You should probably ask Cisco to help you through this they can likely provide you with an updated document and jar file
You will need to update your master.props settings.
You will need potentially need a new jar
Perform on a maintenance weekend with a maximum amount of recovery time
I have a Cisco  doc and Zip files from 2010 when we did this but it is likely a different JAR that you would want to apply now.
What I would think are the Sequence of events (disclaimer Cisco would be best source of sequence, order, etc)
    set system queue to zero
    close all client sessions
    stop master services
kill all connections to Admiral database
    backup admiral database
    set database offline and rename
Restore admiral database backup to new target SQL server 2008 instances
    Creare a backup of master.props
Apply Jar to update master / SQL scripts (if supplied by Cisco)
    Update master.props with new settings
    JdbcURL=jdbc:sqlserver://:;selectMethod=cursor;databaseName=Admiral (or Admiral DB name)
There could be other setting that may also need to chance
Start Tidal Master make sure it is running
    Connect Client
    Verify Connections
Turn on System Queue slowly ramp up from a few to your standard level

  • JAVA 101: I need help with the terminology !

WARNING: Long post, lots of silly questions. But It might help a
    lot of people.
    Hello,
I'm having a tough time understanding BASIC JAVA technology in
general and the way it is used to deploy web forms. Apart form
the marketing droid stuff (Easy to install, works just fine,
etc..), Oracle does not give any documentation about what gets
installed and how the technology works with respect to oracle.
I don't want to learn the JAVA language, I don't need it in my
job. But I'd like to be able to determine what might be
hapenning when oracle crashes and I'd like to know what to tell
me developpers when they ask me what's available etc.. For
example, if one of my developpers wants to work with java beans
    I have 2 problems:
    a) I don't have any idea about what a Java bean REALLY is
    b) I don't even know how oracle works with it and where to
install the beans I could download.
I need a terminology guide. What is a class ? whis is ewt ? How
can I extend the java code that oracle gives us ? Is it
    possible ? Where do I start ?
Looking at the $ORACLE_HOME/forms60/java/forms directory, I can
see that all that is under this directory seems to be some kind
of java objects (with dots in it, etc..) am I right ? At least
when the java applet console is running, the messages that pass
accross seems to relate to this directory in some way...
What about the ewt directory ? What is it used for ? Do I really
need it to deploy java web forms on the web ? Which product
    installed this directory ?
What if I use jinitiator, do I still need the JDK (JDK or JRE ?)
or is it "bundled" under the jinitiator directory somewhere ?
What is JRE ? Is is installed by Sun's JDK, oracle's JDK or
    Jinitiator ? Applet viewer ?
What about the BASIC virtual machines that come with the
browsers (IE and Netscape) ? Do they need the JDK ? Where do
they install their stuff ? Can they conflict with oracle's ?
Can there be more than one JDK installed on my windows machine
without me knowing ? In what registry keys to the JDK/JRE stuff
    puts stuff ?
MOST IMPORTANT: How do I TOTALLY get rid of ALL the java stuff
on my windows clients so I can later perform a FULL reinstall ?
I think some of our clients are pretty messed up, after
installing, deinstalling and reinstalling different versions of
applet viewer, JDK and jiniiator. I'm pretty sure there are some
pointers in the registry that are wrong (in Netscape, I get a
lot of error talking about a java "bridge" that's broken, but
don't know how to fix it or even what it is !)
I don't think the ORACLE JINITIATOR UNinstall does a good job or
removing all it installed in the registry and that may be the
source of the myriads of problems we have with Web Forms.
We don't know who to blame when a problem occurs in web forms:
Forms Server ? OAS ? Solaris ? Windows ? Jinitiator ? At lkease
if we KNOW that Jinitiator is OK...
Any GOOD documentation explaining the basics (and if possible,
something putting it in the context of Oracle, stating the
    differences) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your patience and your time.

  • App server 10.1.2.0.2 The best Jave Runtime to use?

    Hi All,
Im after some feedback on thoughts on the best JRE to use with Application server 10.1.2.0.2 and forms.
We have always used a stable 1.4 series version and used static versioning. Unforunately we came accross a problem that Oracle suggested we update to the latest series 5 1.5.0_18 which they say is certified with our app server.
Since we did this we have noticed that when we maximize/minimize the screen doesnt always fill properly, i.e. the background image is not filling the screen, leaving large white space. And other users have reported the system closes "every now and then"!
We tried upgrading our Java version before and came accross problems with right click features also, so im getting rather paranoid having moved from a relatively stable version!
So my question to the forum is what version JRE is everyone using? Which is the most stable?
Any other information is greatly appreciated.
And i know Java 6 is now certified with patchset 3 but unfortunately we have a lot of customer sites running this version and its impossible to update them all with the downtime required, and also the problems i have thus far encountered whrn installing patchset 3 means i wont have the resources to do this on all customer sites.
    Thanks

You're in your good right to be worried about this. I need to know - you say you have been struggling with, what I understand are focusing issues. Forms have been plagued by these for a long time, but I have to ask you: have you applied the latest big cumulative patch on top of 10.1.2.3 (patch 7703734 or 8306828)? These patches resolve a lot of these issues.
Patch 7703734 or 8306828 are almost identical, so which one you choose is not important.
Next, regarding what JRE version to use. If you require full Vista and Windows 7 compatibility, I can recommend you to take a closer look at the latest JRE 6 Update 14, which has received full certification for Windows 7 and Vista SP2.
We have been using the latest JRE 6 since Update 12, where I had a critical Forms-related issue resolved - see http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6784816 for details. Since then, we haven't really encountered any issues across misc. platforms - Windows XP, Vista, and 7 RC. We are about to push JRE 6 Update 14 out to about 500+ users.
Another important thing - do you use WebUtil in your Forms apps? You will need to apply the latest Forms patch 7703734 / 8306828 AND use JRE 6 Update 12 or newer to be able to deploy WebUtil on Vista and Windows 7 without having to run Internet Explorer in Admin mode. However, if you DON'T use WebUtil, you can stay with 1.5.0 if you want. However, you should be aware, that this version will soon be unsupported, and I personally don't see any good reason not to move to JRE 6 Update 14.
The choice is ultimately your own of course, but now you have my take on your question.
    Hope this helps,
    Jacob
