What is SAP Business by Design?

Hi experts,
Anybody please help me in understanding the SAP Business by Desgin concept..

SAP Business One GUIs (“screens” or “forms”) are the primary interface elements. They usually cover a rectangular area on the computer screen and represent certain tasks or applications running on the computer. The user may move them around the computer screen, size, stack, activate, or de-activate them.
When we discuss screens in the context of the SAP Business One System, we usually refer to their work area. You, as the developer, position interface elements within the work area to adapt a screen to a certain task. In addition to the work area, a screen consists of elements. Some elements serve for basic window handling, and some of them are specific for SAP Business One.
There are two basic kinds of screens in the SAP Business One System: primary screens (main menu/forms), and secondary screens (dialog boxes / message windows).
SAP Business One application functions always reside in one main or primary screen where the user's main activity takes place. In addition, secondary screens appear in reaction to the user's actions to supplement the main screen. On both types of screens, the user may enter data, make choices or is informed of errors / consequences of actions. There may be more than one secondary screen opened simultaneously, but only one can be worked with at a time

SAP Business By Design Software- A Review
An Independent Enterprise Resource Planning Software Review :
SAP is one of the most recognized and trusted brands within the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software industry. Having delivered SAP R/2 in 1979 and SAP R/3 in 1992, the company is one of the original vendors that defined the ERP software market. SAP was started by five IBM engineers in 1972 in exchange for 8% founders' stock. Today the German-based company retains the largest ERP market share of any software vendor; with the possible exception of Oracle depending upon how market share is calculated.
SAP Business ByDesign is the company's software as a service (SaaS) offering targeted to small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs). On September 19, 2007, a one-size-fits-all, subscription-based ERP system aimed at midmarket companies was released as the first SAP ERP SaaS product, previously code named A1S. After several troubled installations and a flawed go to market strategy, SAP pulled ByDesign from the market for a system revamp and significant code refactoring.
Approximately three years later, Business ByDesign reemerged as a multi-tenant SaaS solution, complete with a new architecture, Silverlight presentation layer and PaaS tools for extensibility. As of December 2011, Business By Design was closing in on its first 1000 customer acquisitions and is available in Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Though SAP ByDesign is targeted toward SMEs with 25+ users, the solution can be used by organizations with as few as 10 users. The ideal range is 25-500 users, but the cloud scalability should facilitate more users if required. Business By Design is also finding a place as a Tier 2 ERP solution—being installed at smaller line of business or geographically dispersed locations and integrated to parent companies using the SAP Business Suite.
While Business ByDesign is the company's first back-office foray into the cloud, SAP has since also released cloud-based Line of Business applications. Sales OnDemand—an SFA application with strong social design—was released in July 2011 and is targeted at SAP ERP or Business Suite customers looking to extend their on-premise systems with add-on cloud components. Interestingly, the Line of Business applications were developed on the Business ByDesign framework, but don't integrate with Business ByDesign. Sales OnDemand only integrates with SAP ERP for back office business processes, so SAP customers seeking a complete software as a service CRM solution are limited to Business ByDesign.
By Design is offered in four enterprise software categories: customer relationship management (CRM), financials, professional services automation (PSA), and supply chain management (SCM). These solutions each include a combination of different modules, and they can be acquired as stand-alone capabilities as well. The entire ERP software suite includes the following:
    Customer relationship management (CRM)
    Accounting and financials
    Project management
    Supply chain management (SCM)
    Supplier relationship management
    Human resources (HR)/payroll
    Analytics
    Compliance management

  • Anyone has Idea about what is SAP-B1.

    Hi All,
Will it be advisable to move from SAP R/3 to SAP Business One, what will be growth propects if I go ahead with SAP Business One as a fresher or shall i stick to SAP R/3? Please help me with some suggestions that will help me to choose the right path?
    Thanks.
    MD.

    Hi,
According to My knowledge SAP Buisness one is made for the success of a small business.
SAP has worked with over 10,000 small businesses to help them reach their goals. In fact, more than 65% of SAP customers are small- and midsize companies. SAP Business One, designed exclusively to meet the needs of small businesses, is an integrated, affordable business management application. It's a single system that can automate critical business operations, such as sales, finance, purchasing, inventory, and manufacturing. And it provides accurate, up-to-the-minute views of business data. SAP Business One is easy to buy, quick to install, and easy to use.
But R/3 is mainly for Large Organization.
So in my opinion it is it will be good for u as a fresher to stick to R/3.
its better if u post this Question to community discussions--->Sugesstions and Comments
    Regards

  • Business By Design - Small outlook's

Imagine a system which is self sufficient.
All your job as a newbie is to start working on the system and follow a set of instructions after which you can start the magical journey of creating business documents with ease. Does this sum up SAP ERP?
Not quite. Just when you think that this is it, you are pleasantly surprised when you get to see how on a real time basis the business can transgress management hierarchies with ease. This is flexibility that is given when you chose SAP Business By Design.
Take any management application are for example.
Start right from the highest managerial aspect to issuing orders to controlling the process to system operator entry. SAP business by Design showcases such functionality among all offered and visible management areas and platforms.
As a manager you have employees working under you, you initiate a business process, control the flow of the process and watch your employees seated at data centers process/initiate/approve/undertake key business decisions.
This is applicable to all business areas.
The importance of process flow is critical to the success of SAP Business By Design.

Valid point.  However, I do appreciate Sapu2019s go-slow approach to the business model given all the attendant practical limitations - broadband bandwidth etc.
Nonetheless I believe technologically we are almost there (Netsuite), SaaS has definitely matured and SAP is right to have a foothold now.
Some thing to watch for the future!

  • SaaS/Cloud Computing/Business By Design and SAP

    Hi All,
The concept of SaaS is now not new as this is getting popular day by day. I remember three years back during the same time SAP has announced about its entering into SaaS market with its mySAP CRM as hosted solution.
Lots of Big giants were also coming with the idea of SaaS.  SAP;s Business by Design was also based on hosted or rented solution i guess.
Now Similar situation is with Cloud Computing concept.
Looking at the current market scenario, what you all think about the SAP's Next move towards SaaS or Cloud Computing......
    Thanks,
    Raja

  • Print layout design - SAP Business one 2005 B

I am designing print layout for a sale invoice
    in SAP Business one.
    My question is
    1. How to display excise information like
Excise duty rate,Excise duty Amount &
    Education cess rate, Edu.Cess Amount
Sales tax rate,Sales tax Amount for a AR invoice
    in print layout design?
I have found out respecive table & field, In this
    case(AR Invoice),
    Table name - <b>INV4</b>
    Field Name - <b>Tax Rate,Tax Amount</b>
When i am connecting respective table & field
through database field in print layout design,
It is retreving only one row only.
For example (Below is database table)
Document key .......Tax Rate .....Tax Amount.......
    1                    2%              Rs.20
    1                   16%             Rs.100
    1                    4%             Rs.40
    Document key is <b>Invoice #</b>.
    Tax rate - 2%  & Tax Amount - Rs 20 only(ie) is
    first row only.
    In print layout i can't retreive &
    display subsequent rows,
How to retrieve & display subsequent rows ?
    Expecting your reply.
    Yours,

what is the business processflow in sap xi ?.
    Check this link:

what are the different technical systems are there in the landscape.
The technical system describes the physical view and the business system the logical view, respectively.
So in most cases you must define both but while a technical system can only link to one WEB AS, more than one business systems can link to the same technical system.
Tech System - Holds the tech details like installation no, db instance.
Technical Systems are of following types:
Technical systems are application systems that are installed in your system landscape. An example of an application system is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) server. In the SLD, there are five types of technical systems:
    1.)WEBas java,
    2.)Standalone JAVA
    3.)Third party
    4.)Web as ABAP
    1) Web AS Java
Web AS Java systems consist of one or more instances and each instance is installed on a separate host. An instance itself consists of cluster nodes that can communicate with each other.
    2.)Standalone Java
Standalone Java technical systems are standalone Java applications that are installed in a computer system from an administration perspective. They can also be installed as an operating system service or as a daemon
Web AS java belongs to the NetWeaver Comes with both ABAP and Java, Standalone instread comes separate from the netWeaver.
    3) Third party technical sytem
It can be any of the technical sytem. let us say if you want to send a file to R/3, here the file reside in your local system. for that you can define your local system as a third party technical system.
All those machines that comes under non sap, belongs to the third party.
4.) Web AS ABAP technical systems, ranging from any SAP system to an APO server or CRM server, are based on the same Basis Component (BC), which includes the ABAP interpreter, ABAP Dictionary, ABAP Workbench, and so on. A dedicated database, which stores most of the data of the BC and the application components, is associated with the system.
    Also refer : http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/24/8fa93e08503614e10000000a114084/content.htm
What is your file size and how many records are there in your file ? which idoc your using ?
The file size that your server can process depends on various different aspects like the server hardware sizing, total available memory form both Java and ABAP side, the kind of interfacing you are trying to achieve, if your interface needs a complex mapping etc. Although there is no correct picture on theoritical Max file size, it will depend on the specifics of your landscape.
I personally feel that, processing a 2 GB file is not a good idea as the message when converted to XML its size multiplies atleast 3.5 times to 7 times, which gets persisted at various stages of logging that the system does. You may want to consider other options like splitting the messages into smaller chunks, having no or minimal mapping and configuring the recordset per message property.
Personally in one of the implementations we have had to process a Max file size of 350MB which gets processed once a month and that too during non-peak working hours.

Selecting an IDOC depends on your requirement.
example: if it is purchase order then the idoc would be orders.orders05
if it is invoice, idoc would be invoic.invoic02.
    Reward points if this helps

  • "Enable Sap Business One Suggest" what is it?

    Hello experts,
On General Settings> Display> there is an option at the bottom that says "Enable Sap Business One Suggest".
Do you know what is for? I can't find any documentation.
    I have SAP B1 8.8 patch 19 hot fix
    Many thanks

Hi Pam, you are right, there is no help for in Display File Tab help in 8.8 patch 18. This is actually a documenation defect of low priority.
Many in the forum overlook for possible defects though of low priority. Opening defects ensures they get considered for future releases and makes the product so much better.
