What is structure of BDC session?

Hi Experts,
What is structure of BDC session?
Thanks
~Sid
"Max points are assured"

Hi,
If you want to write your own program, proceed as follows:
Generate the batch input session using function module BDC_OPEN_GROUP
The proceed as follows for each transaction that session contains:
In the BDCDATA structure, enter the value for all screens and fields that must be processed in the transaction.
Use BDC_INSERT to transfer the transaction and BDCDATA structure to the session.
Close the batch input session with BDC_CLOSE_GROUP
Start to process the generated session.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP
Use the BDC_OPEN_GROUP function module to create a new session. Once you have created a session, then you can insert batch input data into it with BDC_INSERT.
You cannot reopen a session that already exits and has been closed. If you call BDC_OPEN_GROUP with the name of an existing session, then an additional session with the same name is created.
A batch input program may have only one session open at a time. Before opening a session, make sure that any sessions that program closes any sessions that it previously had opened.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP takes the following EXPORTING parameters:
CLIENT
Client in which the session is to be processed. Default: If you don’t provide a value for this parameter, the default is the client under which the bathc input program runs when the session is created.
GROUP
Name of the session that is to be created. May up to 12 characters long. Default: None. You must specify a session name.
HOLDDATE
Lock date. The session is locked and may not be processed until after the date that you specified. Only a system administrator with the LOCK authorization for the authorization object Batch Input Authorizations can unlock and run a session before this date.
KEEP
Retain session after successful processing. Set this option to the value X to have a session kept after it has been successfully processed. A session that is kept remains in the input/output queue until an administrator deleletes it. Sessions that contain errors in transactions are kept even if KEEP is not set. Default: If not set, then sessions that are successfully processed are deleted. Only the batch input log is kept.
USER
Authorizations user for background processing. This is the user name that is used for checking authorizations if a session is started in background processing. The user must be authorized for all of transactions and functions that are to be executed in a session. Otherwise, transactions will be terminated with “no authorization” errors. The user can be of type dialog or background. Dialog users are normal interactive users in the R/3 System. Background users are user master records that are specially defined for providing authorizations for background processing jobs.
BDC_INSERT
Use the BDC_INSERT function module to add a transaction to a batch input session. You specify the transaction that is to be started in the call to BDC_INSERT. You must provide a BDCDATA structure that contains all of the data required to process the transaction completely.
BDC_INSERT takes the following parameters:
TCODE
The code of the transaction that is to be run.
POST_LOCAL
Parameter to update data locally. If POST_LOCAL = “X”, data will be updated locally.
DYNPROTAB
The BDCDATA structure that contains the data that is to be processed by the transaction. DYNPROTAB is a table parameter in the function module.
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP
Use the BDC_CLOSE_GROUP function module to close a session after you have inserted all of your batch input data into it. Once a session is closed, it can be processed.
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP needs no parameters. It automatically closes the session that is currently open in your program. You must close a session before you can open another session from the same program.
BDCDATA Structure
IF you want to write data to a batch input session or to process the data using CALL TRANSACTION USING or CALL DIALOG, you must prepare an internal table <bdc_tab>. This internal table must be structured according to ABAP Dictionary structure BDCDATA. The internal table <bdc_tab> stores the data that is to be entered into R/3 System and the actions that are necessary to process data. You can think of the table as storing the script that the R/3 System is to follow in processing batch input data.
BDC table structure
FIELD                     TYPE                            DESCRIPTION
Program                CHAR (8)                      Program name of transaction.
DynPro                   CHAR (4)                      Screen number of transaction.
DynBegin               CHAR (1)                      Indicator for new screen.
Fnam                     CHAR (35)                     Name of database field from screen.
Fval                                   CHAR (80)                     Value to submit to field.

  • What is BDC Session & Z-Program

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is BDC Session & Z-Program ?
    Rajarshi

    Dear Rajarshi,
BDC (Batch Data Communication) - is one of the methods for uploading the data. You have two options with BDC, namely Session and Call Transaction.
First you would record a particular transaction with SHDB simulating sample transaction entry. Then you would use this recording to create a 'Z' program.
With session method a session will be generated that needs to be processed in Transacton SM35 with Foreground, Background, or Errors only mode. You can view and analyze session log after processing the session.
With call transaction you would specify the mode in the program itself. Hence, no session is generated in SM35 in this case.
please visit the following link for more information:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp2005/helpdata/en/fa/097119543b11d1898e0000e8322d00/frameset.htm
Z programs are custom programs. They could be reports, transactions, scripts, smartforms, BDCs, BAPIs etc. You would develop them if there is no SAP standard program available that meets your requirement.
Reward points if this is helpful.

  • What does BDC Session part mean

    Hi all,
As you know, when generating BDC program using t-code SHDB,we got two ways to re-execute the certain transaction, which are 'CALL TRANSACTION ... USING bdcdata' and 'CALL FUNCTION 'BDC_INSERT'' .
I just know how to use the previous one, so could you tell me the meaning of the latter one,how to use it?
    Tks

    Hi Alex,
There are lots of threads for your same query please do spend some time to search yourself you will get lots of post for your paot.
Anyways BDC_INSERT is one of the function module which will create a session while we upload data using BDC technique this is the sample example ..
Load BDC as a transaction in BDC session
    call function 'BDC_INSERT'
    exporting
    tcode = v_tcode
    tables
    dynprotab = itab_bdc_tab
    exceptions
    internal_error = 01
    not_open = 02
    queue_error = 03
    tcode_invalid = 04.
    endform.
Go through this link will get complete information.

  • Can anybody pls tell me  limitations of BDC Session & Call transaction?

    hi, Guys, this is srinivas.
How can we deside which method is to(BDC session/ Call transaction)
use to upload data to SAP database?
Can we run Call Transaction in Background?
Which is preferable for bulk data? and Why?
how can we restart Session if any error occurs?

    Hi,
    Hope it helps this......
SAP BDC INTERVIEW QUESTIONS  & ANSWERS
    1.       What is full form of BDC Session?
    Batch Data Communication Session.
    2.       What are the steps in a BDC session?
The first step in a BDC session is to identify the screens of the transaction that the program will process.  Next step is to write a program to build the BDC table that will be used to submit the data to SAP.  The final step is to submit the BDC table to the system in the batch mode or as a single transaction by the CALL TRANSACTION command.
    3.       How do you find the information on the current screen?
The information on the current screen can be found by SYSTEM à STATUS command from any menu.
    4.       How do you save data in BDC tables?
The data in BDC tables is saved by using the field name ‘BDC_OKCODE’ and field value of ‘/11’.
    5.       What is the last entry in all BDC tables?
In all BDC tables the last entry is to save the data by using the field name BDC_OKCODE and a field value of ‘/11’.
    6.       What is a multiple line field?
A multiple line field is a special kind of field which allows the user to enter multiple lines of data into it.
    7.       How do you populate data into a multiple line field?
To populate data into a multiple line field, an index is added to the field name to indicate which line is to be populated by the BDC session (Line index).
    8.       Write the BDC table structure.
    BDC table structure
    FIELD                     TYPE                            DESCRIPTION
Program                CHAR (8)                      Program name of transaction.
DynPro                 CHAR (4)                      Screen number of transaction.

Fval                      CHAR (80)                     Value to submit to field.
    9.       Does the CALL TRANSACTION method allow multiple transactions to be processed by SAP?
No.  The CALL TRANSACTION method allows only a single transaction to be processed by SAP.
    10.    Does the BDC-INSERT function allow multiple transactions to be processed by SAP?
    Yes.
    11.    What is the syntax for ‘CALL TRANSACTION’?
    CALL TRANSACTION trans .
Three possible entries are there for MODE.
                      A          -           Show all screens.
E          -           Show only screens with errors.
                      N          -           Show no screens.

  • Lsmw, bapi, bdc- session, bdc-calltransaction

    Hi Experts,
Can you please tell me which method should be used to upload data
    1. lsmw
    2. bapi
    3. bdc-session
    4. bdc-calltransaction
which method should be used when?, why?, advantages?
I know the process of doing all this but my question is which method should be followed and when, what will be the advantages and disadvantages.
    points will be rewarded.
    Thank you.
    regards,
    Admir.

    hi,
To decide which method shukld use, we have to understand the differences first.
for 10000 records i will go for session method
    Session method.
    1) synchronous processing.
    2) can tranfer large amount of data.
    3) processing is slower.
    4) error log is created
    5) data is not updated until session is processed.
    Call transaction.
    1) asynchronous processing
    2) can transfer small amount of data
    3) processing is faster.
    4) errors need to be handled explicitly
    5) data is updated automatically
Session method is to populate the data by filling BDC structure
and keep as session to process from SM37 to post in appropriate Transaction.
Call transaction method is to post the data directly into the Transaction from an Executable program.
Session method SAP defined Function modules.

  • How to handle the errors in BDC Session method

    Hi All,
I am uploading Material Master (MM01) records using BDC Session Method.my problem is when i am running the program, all the error records are going to flat file.how can i correcting the error records and after correction how can i re-process the error records.tell me with example.
i have around 70,000 records in my flat file.

    Hi,
I am attaching few threads.Hope these will help you.
If there are any error records in session, all those error records will get poulated in log .SM35 and after the session is completed , u can see error records which can be corrected and reprocessed again
We have the structures BDCLD and BDCLM, which will capture the log details inthe session. Firstly, sesssion should be processed. After that log will be created. Then caputure the information into an internal table using BDCLM and BDCLD.
    and refer the link.
    error correction in bdc session

  • Back ground job bdc session

    Hai All,
Can any one tell me how to catch the erros in BDC session method back ground job.
I need to update Sales orders in BDC session, back ground job.
Finally at the end I need to generate a report which contains all the succesfull updates & errors.
I tried this using call transaction with messtab and is working fine.
Please tell me how to do this in Session method.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bhaskar.

    Hi Bhaskar,
In Session method what you need to do is before processing of hte BDC first you need to check all the data. And if any error found then populate it into the internal table. And that internal table you need to display it on the output......
I think this is the solution but I am not to sure........

  • BDC Session Saves Data Only in Foreground

I have created a bdc program to create an SM35 session of CA02.  The wierd thing is that the session will run in background with no errors, but the data is not updated.  If I run the session in foreground the data is updated.  Have I overlooked something simple?

To see what is going on, I commented out the save at the end to force it to error out.  If I run the session in foreground the data is changed.  If I run it in display errors only mode, the data is not changed.  So it seems not to have anything to do with the save at the end.  Perhaps it is now appropriate to post some of the code.
After the data file is uploaded into the itab and the bdc group has been created, for each routing group I do the following:
      PERFORM dynpro USING:
    * ***   Initial Screen   ***
          'X'   'SAPLCPDI'       '1010',
          ' '   'RC271-PLNNR'    gk_rec-groupnum,
          ' '   'BDC_OKCODE'     '/00',
    * *** Header Overview  ***
          'X'   'SAPLCPDI'       '1200',
' '   'BDC_OKCODE'     'MTUE'.     "open material allocation screen
Then for each material allocation the data file says to delete:
      PERFORM dynpro USING:
    * *** Material Allocation ***
          'X'   'SAPLCZDI'         '1010',
          ' '   'RC27X-ENTRY_ACT'  gv_entry,   "gv_entry holds row number to delete
          ' '   'BDC_OKCODE'       'ENT1',       "position button
          'X'   'SAPLCZDI'         '1010',
' '   'BDC_CURSOR'       'MAPL-MATNR(01)',  "place cursor on the line to delete
          ' '   'BDC_OKCODE'       'LOE',                      "delete line
          'X'   'SAPLSPO1'         '0100',
          ' '   'BDC_OKCODE'       'YES'.                      "confirm dialog
then at the end of the session:
      PERFORM dynpro USING:
            'X'   'SAPLCZDI'       '1010',
' '   'BDC_OKCODE'     'BACK', "leave material allocation screen
            'X'   'SAPLCPDI'       '1200',
            ' '   'BDC_OKCODE'     'BU'.  "save
Then, I insert into the bdc session using tcode ca02.  All this given the following subroutine:
FORM dynpro USING p_dynbegin TYPE any p_name TYPE any p_value TYPE any.
      CLEAR gk_bdc_tab.
      IF p_dynbegin = 'X'.
        MOVE:  p_name  TO gk_bdc_tab-program,
               p_value TO gk_bdc_tab-dynpro,
               'X'   TO gk_bdc_tab-dynbegin.
      ELSE.
        MOVE:  p_name  TO gk_bdc_tab-fnam,
               p_value TO gk_bdc_tab-fval.
      ENDIF.
      APPEND gk_bdc_tab TO gt_bdc_tab.
    ENDFORM.
It seems that the cursor isn't specifying the line to delete when run in background.

  • Bdc session in status being created

    Hi..
I have a custom program that creates bdc sessions. For some of the sessions it created, the status of the session is being created.
when i click on analysis of that session: it has
1 transaction with 8 screens in new
1 transaction with 8 screens in to process
1 transaction with 8 screens in current content
1 transaction with 8 screens in removed with - ve sign after 1 and 8.
0 transaction with 0 screens in (created, deleted, processed and incorrect)
Can someone tell me what might be the reason for the session to be in being created?
Appreciate your help and will reward helpful answers.
    Thanks,
    RK

Yes. As I said before thsi is because the BDC_CLOSE was not executed. You are seeign them as being created could be because soem was was tryign to debug the program and woudl have jumped out of the program half way. In this case the BDC_CLOSE would not have executed and the session will remain as 'Being created'. You dont have to worry abt it and it is purely because of partial execution of the program. You can try it on yoru own by gettign into the debugging mode and terminate the program after BDC_OPEN FM is executed. You will see another session with status beign created. The number of transaction in this session will depend on what point did you terminate the program.

    Hi Srinivas,
Thanks very much. You understood what I meant exectly.
Because the files provided by the several banks systems are not the same format,so we can not use the report RFEBKA00.And now we are developing the system connecting to the bank system directly,we can get the data from the bank and upload them to the sap system without creating a file.
So we use the FF67 BDC
    The program like this:
"it_data" is the internal table containing the data from the bank system.
"l_mnam1" is the session name created by the program.
    PERFORM fill_bdcdata USING:
                      'SAPMF40K'            '0110'           'X',

  • Bdc sessions Issues

I have a users who is trying to process a BDC session in sm35 and they are getting you are unable to schedule session XXXX.
I checked sm35 and they have access to it
And object S_BDC_MONI has values of ABTC, ANAL, AND AONL.
Nothing happens of course they are offsight so an su53 I am unable to do now............any suggestions.
    THANKS!!!!

    Maritza,
There are many reasons why ST01 is not showing results.  Try practicing with it in one of your test systems or see if anyone in your area has used it before who may provide assistance.
Try one other thing after the user runs the transaction.  You run SU53.  Then hit F5 and put in the user ID of the user with the issue.  See what object shows up.
    Cheers,

  • Bdc session method

    Hi all ,
where BDC_OK  fields  will store  in which table .
and also how to reslove the screen resolution  in bdc session method .
    Regards ,
    Kiran .

    hi
to maintain Screen Resolution just try this
in the BDC Program source code u will find
include BDCRECX1 just double click on it,u can see the selection screen of BDC
and form definitions for Open_Group ,BdcTransaction & CloseGroup, since it is a std include program
u cannot change it so copy this to a Z include and use that Z include instead of BDCRECX1
Then go to form BDCTRANSACTION using TCODE
in that form Declare a workarea(eg: opt) of structure type CTU_PARAMS
data:   messtab like bdcmsgcoll occurs 0 with header line.
    data : opt type ctu_params.
    pass the values to it
    dismode-> Processing mode (A,E,N,P)
    updmode-> Update mode (L,S,A)
defsize-> Default Screen Size (X) to maintain Screen Resolution
      opt-dismode = ctumode.
      opt-updmode = cupdate.
      opt-defsize = 'X'.
    if session = 'X'.
        call function 'BDC_INSERT'
         exporting
           tcode                  = tcode
           ctuparams              = 'OPT'
          tables
            dynprotab              = bdcdata.
    else.
        refresh messtab.
call transaction tcode using bdcdata options from opt messages into messtab.
    endif.

  • Question in BDC session method.

    Hi guys,
I am trying to upload BOM using BDC session method.
While doing this, i have learnt the steps by heart. But i do not understrand the logic behind the steps. For example, why do we include this statement
Data: IT-BDC like BDCDATA occurs 0 with headerline.
What if we don't include this statement?

    Hello Dhirendra,
Thanks for immediate reply. I want to understand BDC method conceptually. What exactly happens by performing each step.
I am putting up the BDC i made. I copied some of the code from here and there. It works fine but i don't understand the purpose of BDCDATA,
    call transaction 'cs01'
and form bdc_dynpro and form bdc_field.
I am quite new to ABAP. Please don't mind if i ask dumb questions.
I am unable to understand how control flows through the code logic.
    report ZBDCFORCS01
no standard page heading line-size 255.

how to overcome view changes in bdc session method  using recording ?
ex-for mm01 in recording if i selected views basic data1 and basic data2.
i seheduleded for background for after 3 days .
if any body changes views by selecting other views also.
how to overcome this with out programming ?
    is there any settings ?

    Hi,
I am attaching few threads.Hope these will help you.
Then caputure the information into an internal table using BDCLM and BDCLD.
    and refer the link.
    error correction in bdc session
    regards
