What is the literal constant or expression which results in the blank meta-value?

Numbers is horsey about not tolerating null values, and yet I can't seem to find a way for the result of a formula to be the blank cell null value.
I need a formula that will sparsely replicate the cells of another column depending on a condition, such as
=if(iserror(search("AAPL",a1)),<blank>,b1)
which might replicate those portions of my trading profits which resulted from securities with "AAPL" in their name to a column separate from the column with all trading profits.
If I wanted zeros, I could use Excel.  Zero is not the same as null.  If I wanted an opaque and geeky way of suppressing the display of zeros, I could also use Excel.
On the other hand, Apple developers could use Excel for a while to overcome some of their arrogance.  If they had to do real work with real volumes and weren't allowed to have a personal life until they got it done, they might suddenly compromise their purist principles.

Thanks for the replies.  But the strict typing combined with lack of any way to denote empty or null values of a certain type makes it really, really unfriendly.
I was trying to total a range, or replicate a cascading running total down a column in sheet of content which was nicely formatted with white space between groups of entries.  Therefore, if a formula derived from column data to the left is copied all the way down a column, there are going to end up being zero values.  Shouldn't matter, and is easy to suppress zero display in er, uh, that other package claiming by its name to be excellent, but ...
So I'll omit the details of griping about number, time and date formatting, or the number of clicks and layers required, or the lack of tool bar buttons or a way to customize or add buttons and just say did they hire people from Microsoft to come over and do this product?
But eventually I just threw in the towel and let my column have lots of extraneous zero values, and spent an hour setting up a custom format that would suppress zeros, use parenthesized display for negatives, and keep two fixed decimal places.  This is otherwise known as standard accounting format and has been around at least a couple centuries I know of, so I'm just a little bit surprised it's not a choice in Numbers.
Before everyone starts replying with all kinds of hints, yes I know all these things are there.  But if you want them together you have to build your own, and it can take a long time so if your time is money (I'm a consultant who bills hourly and spends unbillable hours trading, so time is definitely money) then the cost of use is orders of magnitude more than any cost of software.
Maybe when I get it all set up and customized it will feel more effective.  There's plenty to like and it's really been since Trapeze -- whoa, going on 15 years ago? -- since someone realized a spreadsheet is not equivalent to a page.  But it's still rough around the edges and needs some serious tuning based on metering user actions.  Also, clicks and display of resulting selections seem to deviate from Mac standards in frustrating ways.  They're trying to give clicks in the same region different meanings depending on other context.  I understand the desire, but it's a UI no-no.
Thanks again.

  • What is the default timeout value for the SPQuery object?

What is the default timeout value for the SharePoint SPQuery object? I've tried searching online but can't find anything with the actual timeout value.
Someone suggested it might use the timeout property in the database? Anyone know if that's how it works?

    Hi,
Do you want to avoid timeout when you query list items?
If so, we can use the following C# code to set timeout.
    HttpContext.Current.Server.ScriptTimeout = 600; // 10 minutes
    More information is here:
    http://200oksolutions.blogspot.com/2013/03/sharepoint-2010-set-timeout-only-to.html
The SPQuery object doesn’t provide any property to set timeout. We can also set timeout in web.config, or SQL Connections or IIS.

  • What is the smallest Gcd value for Colors.

    Can anybody help me .
    Thanks,

    Hi
    From your title,
    >>what is the smallest Gcd value for Colors
What do you mean about Gcd value?
Do you have some code that you could show us to illustrate what you are trying to achieve? Or are you just
talking in vague general terms about how you might go about writing some kind of code
And the more details the better responses you will get. Thanks.
    Have a nice day!

  • What is the blank  frame with broken  photo mean ?

After I edited a picture in Photoshop Elements 9 I  then  put it into an e mail attachment. I was then switched to the organizer that had a blank spot with a broken photo . I could not get any explanation. I also was told that i had the wrong format to email. Does this mean I can't email an edited photo ? What does the broken frame mean ?

Thank you Jim. I do have one more question with regards to your advice:
I am putting the new firmware on my GH2 today, so I will be able to capture 1080/30p as opposed to only 1080/60i to edit in the 30p timeline. Is there a reason you would prefer 60i over true 30p at the same res? I've had problems with interlacing in the past never quite going away and getting funky when doing slow motion and other effects.

  • What is the "Relevance" meter in iTunes store?

    Here's our podcast: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=190110077
Our show is about Fantasy Football. If you search the iTunes store for Fantasy Football, you'll see that our popularity "meter" is pretty strong but why is the "relevance" meter so low? How do we get that higher? What does it mean?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Well, it's probably a bunch of Apple voodoo that calculates those high scores, but...
Do you have any keywords listed in the channel info and item info sections of your RSS feed? If not, start there.
Next, you might want to expand the text for the show description. Make it longer than 6 words, and try to fit "fantasy football" in there a few times (it's only in there once right now). Maybe mention who the hosts are, and why people should care about them.
I don't know if it really matters, but it may help to fit "fantasy football" in each of the episode desriptions. Think of this as optimizing your website so that search engines will hit on certain keywords.
Who knows. At least your popular!

  • What is the correct confreg value for a normally operating 831?

I bought this router used on ebay and when it arrived, its nvram was not cleared from its old environment. I had to use the password recovery technique but, because I did not have the old password, I could not see waht the old confreg value was. This site told me it would be 0x100 or 0x2100. I took a guess at 0x100 but, the router cold starts to rommon. I can get it to boot to the flash image by running confreg at the rommon prompt but, I would like to set the correct confreg value so that it always boots from the ios on flash. I dont want to guess anymore as I run the risk of breaking the router.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi Friend,
    Go for 0x2102

  • How to set a dropdown to the blank line value

    Hi all,
    maybe a very easy question.
How can I set a dropdownbyindex value to the blank line?
    If I use e.g.
    wdContext.currentActionsElement().setDescription(null);
it adds another blank line among the values and if I try with:
    wdContext.nodeActions().setLeadSelection(0);
    it doesn't work.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.
    Angelo

    wdContext.nodeActions().setLeadSelection(IWDNode.NO_SELECTION);
Check that node selection is not mandatory (i.e. selection cardinality is 0..1, not 1..1).
If this does not help set initializeLeadSelection to false for this node.

  • What is the Availability check relevant for batches in Std. SAP except CH

    Hi,
What is the Availability check value in material master relevant for batches in standard SAP except CH.
As far as I know CH will enable to have automatic batch determination at sales order level. In the same manner, do we have any other availability check value in standard SAP like CH which will enable batch determination at delivery level.

Don't post the same question repeatedly. Keep one thread open and close the other threads.
You have already posted the same at  Wha is batch relevant availability check value in standard SAP except CH

  • What does the "Internal" value on the ASM Disk Group Usage Chart represent?

In OEM Grid Control, on the Automatic Storage Management Home page there is the Disk Group Usage Chart.
What does the "Internal (GB)" value on this pie chart represent? and how it has been calculated?
On one of our servers it is 13% of available ASM disk capacity.. and on another it is 0%.

Internal space is (Total MB - Free MB) from the @ DiskSpaceUsage - Total MB from the DatabaseDiskSpace usage
It is basically the space occupied by the your DB in the ASM disk space. There are few bugs related to this and need to be refined
