What keeps happening to contacts on iOS 7.0.6? Lost them twice.

The other day my phone seemed to lose all the contacts list and then sporadically recvered it again.
I just lost them again as I noticed that all inbound calls were showing just the numbers etc...
So, checked on icloud and they are there, so I dragged them down as a vcf, imported and merged back to the phone then checked.
In my recent calls list, it shows the names of the contacts in there and now the contacts list has a few duplicates. Most names are single entries, some have 5 or more copies. .
I can't see how I can force a resynch (why do apple obfuscate all the bloody simple tasks?) and just tidy this up...
Since 7.0.6, this has been a repeating issue.....

If the .vcf file doesn't contain duplicates, you can delete all the contacts in iCloud, then reimport the .vcf to your phone to repopulate iCloud. To delete all your iCloud contacts, go to your contacts on icloud.com from your computer, log into your iCloud account and open Contacts, click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom left and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Thanks Carolyn. I tried that and it gave me an idea. I also had my contacts on Google. They were also in time machine but I used google. I went to my Google contacts and exported to apple as vcards. After checking the duplicates in the import screen, I merged duplicates in Address book. When I finished..... my contacts are back and correct. Yeah!!!!!!!

It is a known issue. Reboot your phone and it should work. I had the same issue and once I rebooted it worked fine. Tell your other iphone friends to reboot as well.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

What happened to the labels in Contacts with iOS 6?

When I choose to add a new contact in my Contacts list, the contact label options are the following: mobile, home, work, home fax, work fax, pager, assistant, car, company main, radio.
My custom labels are gone, and the option to "Add Custom Label" is not there, either.
However, when I choose to edit a current contact and try to choose a contact label, the options are as follows: mobile, iPhone, home, work, main, home fax, work fax, other fax, pager, other.
I also have my custom labels and the option to "Add Custom Label."
Has anyone else noticed this? If not, try it. You'll see what I mean.

Back up everything to iCloud. You will have to restore your device, but do NOT "Restore from Backup." You will have to "Setup as New [iDevice]" and then use iCloud to retrieve all your data.
It's a little inconvenient, but this actually fixed the Contacts labels and battery drainage problems.
There's some glitch with a direct update to iOS 6 through either Wi-Fi or iTunes. Those are the two problems that this method fixed, at least for me.
I don't know what other bugs are present in iOS 6, but those were the two that bothered me the most.

My "What's happening today?" status keeps changing to something I set it to two weeks ago.

At work we use Microsoft Lync 2013. I have used the "What's happening today" status line in the Lync client so people can keep updated on things from me when I am away from desk. Two weeks ago I was busy moving IT equipment into another
building, so I had in my status bar a little blurb about equipment moves.
Now off an on for the last two weeks, my "What's happening today" keeps reverting back to that blurb about equipment moves. I'll change it by either blanking it out, putting in a different status like "Spring is here finally!" and
guess what? In due time it reverts back to the old status from 2 weeks ago.
I rebooted my PC and still it seems to be an issue. I am not sure if other people see this status when it reverts back or not, but next time I will log in with a test account from my laptop and see how I appear in the contact list.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

The usual explanation for this is that:
1. You have changed the iTunes preferences so that when importing a song the file is not copied into the iTunes media library - doing so is the default.
2. You have subsequently moved the original file, which iTunes has been using to play your song, and so of course it's lost contact with it.
If 1. is not the case, then the files in the iTunes Library (by default, in (user)/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music) may have been moved, deleted or become corrupted. You should check in that library, but don't start moving files in there about. If this is the case you should delete the songs in the iTunes Music list, not in the Finder, and re-import.

Thanks lllaass, but I am not computer literate and do not understand exactly what it is I am supposed to do. All of my photos were stored on Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery. When I now access the gallery the only thing that is there are the folders with the title of the folders. The pictures that were in those folders are now gone. I can no longer access them on my IPOD either. My photo library on my IPOD is now empty.

Your cousins phone was therefore not, in fact, factory unlocked. An iPhone sold directly by Apple as unlocked will never lock because of an iOS update.
An iPhone unlocked by going through proper procedures and channels with the carrier to whom it was originally locked will never lock again because of an iOS update.
An iPhone hacked to unlock it (which is unlocked by ANY other means then the first two) will lock again whenever iOS is updated.
If I had to guess, I would say 90% of privately sold iPhones sold as "unlocked" are in fact merely hacked to unlock them, and WILL relock when updated.
Some iPhones sold in Europe are also sold as "SIM free" and contract free, but do in fact lock to the carrier of the first SIM inserted in them. No contract, or "SIM free" does not mean unlocked.
