When I attempt to send a new AIM message it defaults to sending an iMessage. Is there a way around this?

I use Mac Messages app for iMessage, SMS, AIM, & Google Chat. When I attempt to send a new AIM message it defaults to sending an iMessage. Is there a way around this?
I have my preferences set to save messages history in my Mac Messages app and the issue seems to arise when I attempt to send a new AIM message to someone that I have recently had an iMessage conversation with. I have tried right clicking the person's name in my buddy list and selecting "Start New Chat" and it appears as though I'm writing a new AIM message to them but when I send the message it defaults back to an iMessage. AIM is used for daily communication by everyone in my company and used heavily throughout my industry. Considering a majority of my contacts don't have iMessage synced to their Messages/AIM app on their desktop it is ineffective and disruptive to send an iMessage instead of an AIM.
Any insight or help would be appreciated. I'd love to find a solution without having to turn off the save messages history setting in my Mac Messages app.

Hi,
The Name at the "To" spot should become a drop down and this should show you the various ways you can connect to them.
A "Chat" with someone can then switch between the various options if they have several ways.
As @mac.com and other Apple issued ID can also be AIM valid Screen Names you sometimes have to take a little care.
If you have made it to be an AIM chat though it should not switch back to iMessages even if that was the last method they used to contact you.
I find in Mavericks (that I am currently booted into) I can double click the Buddy Line in the Buddy List (And I have my Buddy List separate) the Chat will take on the AIM item in the text field.
This was an iMessages conversation before this.
I presume this still works in Yosemite.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:

Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above). Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall with sufficient user privileges and security stuff turned off. Your install went wrong because you didn't consider this.

Did you recently deauthorize a bunch of computers? You can only deauthorize all once year.

My Mac has 4 mail accounts coming into it, but you are correct, one of them is a POP account, (and unfortunately it is the main @ account, and is the one associated with my apple id, since we've had it for years). I couldn't figure out how to replace this with the Imap version, short of deleting that account entirely.
Is this what I have to do?

Are you using the virtual keyboard to input your password and you cannot see/find the characters you need on that keyboard?
Or are you trying to use a bluetooth keyboard and pressing the printed key does not produce the right character?

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
If you have a credit card on your account then it needs to be valid. Have you tried removing it from yoru account ? On your iPad try tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store on iOS 6+) and selecting 'View Apple ID' on the popup - that should give you a payments link on your account's page.

A draft will not 'stay' deleted,it doesn't reappear in drafts but does when I attempt to comopse a new gmail message//os 10.6.8

Cut, delete, commandX all delete a line of "s's" from a new compose message..HOWEVER the line of "s's" reappear when I open a fresh compose message (ie) doesn't delete the single line of s's from the discarded draft. I'm using gmail via a/my university "account."University IT help punted me to the www. Help appreciated. ted

Positive...a bit more. I haven't a clue re POP or IMAP re the university/gmail. With/in Eudora I could pull it up. (I still like Eudora but that's another subject.)
Yesterday I tried Firefox with the same results..didn't check my settings. In Safari/webmail/gmail I checked my settings and the "s's" line didn't show under signature (ie) nothing to delete/cut.
Then at your mention today of trying another browser, I did. When I was in Firefox/webmail/gmail I did deletes/cuts in/on the compose message with the s's (ie) they kept reappearing. Then I thought "go try the settings." I checked my gmail settings (while in Firefox.) And I found the s's line and deleted it + saved the changes. No more s's when I open compose. Bingo.

Running Firefox 4.0 on Mac OSX 10.6.6, using ATT mail, when I create a new email I get a browser message saying, "This page requires a plugin that can only run in 32-bit mode," and I have to restart Firefox in 32-bit mode. Is there any way around this?

I am assuming the plugin that the Firefox message is referring to is for attaching a file to the email. I say this because at the bottom of a new email it has a link that says "Attach files more easily" which, when you click it, takes you to a setup process where you download an att updater. I ran that and it did seem to change anything. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to make Firefox handle this page without having to restart in 32-bit mode every time.

That means that you need to run Firefox in 32 bit mode if you want to use that plugin.
# Close Firefox
# Open the Applications folder in Finder
# Right click or control-click the Firefox.app icon
# Select "Get Info"
# Select "Open in 32-bit mode"
# Close the "Firefox Info" window
# Restart Firefox
