When iPod connected message: "program has encountered a problem"

Problem connecting 4gb Ipod Nano to Itunes.
1. Without connecting the Ipod, I can double click on the iTunes icon and the program runs as usual.
2. However when I connect the iPod via the provided usb connector several strange things occur
a. As soon as the iTunes program appears on the screen, I am simultaneously connected to my Microsoft Outlook email screen which appears on top of the iTunes screen. Shortly thereafter the screen showing the iPod information then appears, immediately or even simultaneously with the window that says the program has encountered a problem and it must close.
b. This recurs each time I repeat the sequence.
c. Oddly enough so long as I do not click on the end program button, the iTunes program synchs perfectly with the iPod that it is connected to.
Question: why, when the iPod is connected does Microsoft Outlook automatically show on my screen when iTunes comes up? Why does the “encountered problem” screen come up?

Hey lenharris,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down ''shift'' while Firefox is starting up. If the crash doesn't happen in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [[Firefox crashes]] Knowledge Base article. If you've recently upgraded, you might want to check out [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues#w_firefox-crashes-when-i-start-it this article] as well.
Hopefully this helps!

    Hello there, ytnoj.
Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes can be a tricky endeavor and must be done in a very specific way. The following Knowledge Base article provides the step-by-step of the process:

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Error message "itunes has encountered a problem..." when it starts up...

Every time I try to open itunes I get the typical windows message that says "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down." I've tried to reinstall, but it still does it. Any ideas?

    hiya!
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to
    close
the first thing that i check for when people report
getting that message when they try to launch
their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly,
or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll
try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone
installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install
from there rather than online.) switch off
antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the
    install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes
    launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone
reinstall, let us know what it says. include error
message numbers if you're getting any.)

There's a 'Debug' box and a 'Close' box.

I've tried every button a number of times.
I've clicked 'Debug' - the computer 'thinks' a moment but nothing happens. I've Closed and reopened. Same song, 2nd verse.
I updated iTunes. No change. I uninstalled iTunes and reloaded it. Same thing happens.
I can't access iTunes or any part of it. I even had to google iTunes Help to locate this site.
I can access iTunes on my iPad, but am unable to sync my iPad and Laptop.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click Repair.
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. Although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things):

    WHAT DO I DO!!!
I have tried re-installing, disabling norton, what else can i do???

    hi bballv32!
okay, there's two main different possibilities with an error code 0x80040707 on an uninstall or a reinstall. (there are some much rarer ones, but we'll focus on these two at the moment.)
    (1) you can sometimes get it if you're installing a higher version of QT in a different user account from the one QT was originally installed in, or if you're uninstalling it from inside a different user account than it was originally installed in.
    (2) you can get it if the QT installation registry entries are damaged in some way.
if (1) doesn't seem to be a factor in your case, let's try the standard treatment for (2). Download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and use it to remove your existing QuickTime installation registry entries:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
does the careful standalone QT install go through after you do that?
    keep us posted.
    love, b

When I attempt to open iTunes I get that message. I recently had some work done on my computer and had stopzilla installed but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with my problem.

    Hi!
Thanks for responding. The error signature in the box shows the following:
    EventType: BEX
    P1: iTunes.exe
    P2: 9.2.0.61

I spent over an hour on the phone with support yesterday and nothing we tried worked. It appears to get hung-up when it's syncing (at 178 or 12521 songs). I'm desperate to get this fixed and appreciate any ideas or suggestions of things to try.

  • Program has encountered a problem while rendering and shuts down

I was rendering a video, and about 23% of the way through the program encountered this program. I restarted and tried it again. It now happens in the 7th clip out of the 80 clips on the timeline or about 7% of the way. I've deleted the scratch disk files with no luck.
Does anyone know what would cause this problem?

Which Satellite L675? There is a label on the bottom.
Probably easiest to restore from the hidden partition. See the section Recovering to out-of-box state (recommended recovery method), which begins on p. 62 of the User's Manual.
       Satellite L670 Series User’s Guide
Yes, I've read here that it can take a long time to restore the factory image.

    Thanks in advance!

Still need you to confirm your project preset and the screenshots from the GSpot utility (link mentioned earlier).
The Preset is critical. If it doesn't match your footage details it will give problems - and it can't easily be changed once you've started the project. Here is where it is set (this PRE7 but 8 & 9 are similar). If you have not changed this since you started the problem project it will be the same as shows when you start a new project.
These are some of the choices and need to match your the details of your clip.
    This is the GSpot window:
Just drag your project clip files anywhere in this window and then post a screenshot of the window. Here's an example of what we need to see (a trailer for the movie Shark Tale).

Hi- I am having an issue- When I turn my computer on- I get the message  "Bridge has encountered a problem & is unable to read the cache- try  purging central cache in cache preferences to correct situation"   When  I open Photoshop CS5 it say "repousse file is bad or corrupt"  "the  material file is bad or corrupt"  Also all of my actions have disappeared - even the default actions... HELP because as of now, no one has any answers except to buy a support contract....
I use windows & the problem is with photoshop cs5

First Aid is to reset preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key and Start Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.  You can choose all 3.
If you moved files or used a registry cleaner you many have lost links.  In that case the Cleaner Tool and reinstall is recommended.

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close when adding movie files

So.. I haven't done anything recently with installing any new versions of itunes or anything of the such. Just one day whenever I tried to add .mp4 files (videos) on my ipod using Itunes, it crashes with the error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." and it closes the application. I can add music files just fine.
anyone else having this issue? If so, can you let me know what you have done to fix this problem?
Also, I got fed up today and decided to uninstall Itunes and Quicktime and then downloaded the most recent off Apple's site and that still didn't work.
    Please help....

One other thing.. all the movies that I currently have in Itunes that once worked no longer work either. It crashes when I attempt to play them as well in Itunes.

Thanks for any help. This is highly frustrating. I have already spent about 8 hours on this!

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.
