Where is a basic compressor in Garageband 10?

In the previous version of Garageband, I used a basic compressor all the time. It offered basic funtionality such as gain, compression ratio, etc.
I can't seem to find a compressor like that in this new version of Garageband (v.10). What's the deal?

GBv10 is a very different piece of software, i'm afraid, and the Track Effects, as they, were no longer exist:

almost all of the presets have _a_ compressor, open the Smart Controls (knob icon)
also the standard Audio Units are still part of the built-in system:

Problems during download of the basic lessons of Garageband

Hi to Everyone,
I have a new macbook pro, 4 gb ram, snow leopard installed, all the update done (also for garageband ver. 5,1).......i can't download the lesson n° 9 of the basic lesson of garageband......all the other start without problems (piano and guitar) but, when i try to download the n° 9 of the piano the message is: Garageband can't do the download, go to the apple store (?the store) for help......i go to the apple store but i find only discussion on this forum. The link in this forum where download directly the lesson doesn't work......! have you a new website adress or a help for me?

Hey helodrvr,
It sounds like all of these issues may be related. I would recommend completely uninstalling and removing iTunes and all related components. The following article will explain how to do so in Windows XP:

Where is the Mp3export option in Garageband 10.0.2?

Hi! I keep reading about the export option for mp3 on this new update of Garageband 10.0.2. I used to have the mp3 export in an older version, so perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place, but each time I try to export a file, it ends up as a AAC rather than mp3. Here's a screenshot of what I'm doing. Any advice? Or do I need to reinstall? The installation of the update took HOURS so perhaps it was just a bad install. Although, I'd rather not go through that again if I don't have to!!! Thanks! Danielle

Here is the screenshot what you should see.
Selecting "Export Song To Disk..." from the Share Menu opens the "Export SOng To Disk" Dialog where you hae the three Radio buttons AAC-MP3-AIFF.

Where is the scratch disk for Garageband ?

Hi there,
1) Can I know when we record vocals in garageband, where does the recorded file copied to ? What is the path of the scratch disk ?
2) If I copy my project files in my macbook pro to my iMac, how does iMac locate all the recordings that I done in the macbook pro ?

Where is the basic driver for C4580 under Windows 7 64-bit?

I've upgraded my PC and I'm installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit. My printer is the HP Photosmart C4580. In the support section of the HP support site, only the full software is available for download - PS_AIO_04_C4500_USW_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe. There is a tempting message saying the basic driver is "available as a separate download named HP Photosmart Basic Driver", but I can't find it. I've even had a trawl through the HP FTP site! I really only want the basic driver. I certainly don't want all the other stuff that the full version brings - particularly the Yahoo toolbar for IE! Does anyone know where the basic driver can be found?? Thanks in advance.

That is not true at all. When you try to use that install package there is no option to just install the drivers without the other garbage. I just want the driver for the Photosmart d7260 but NO, that's too hard for HP to understand that people exist that don't need to be babied through installing drivers. I don't need you to hold my hand just give me the file I need to try and make my printer work again.

Where are the basic settings in develop module?

Since updating to lighroom 3 using a MacPro running Snow Leopard I seem to be missing all the 'basic' settings on my develop module namely exposure, white balance etc. All the other adjustment settings are there. Any idea how to fix this?

When you are in the develop module, right-click in the right-hand panel and make sure there is a checkmark next to the basic settings. If there isn't just click on basic settings. Then it will show in the panel. The different areas are designed so that you can hide any that you don't use.

What and Where is the basic photo format and size info????

I am new at this but an experienced graphic designer.
I work in print often so I take high resolution images. Using still photos I want to make movies with titles and effects, music that are emailable and facebook friendly. Do I need to down size photos before importing them to IPhoto. My project will have around 30 photos.
Is there a place I can go to get this basic info, it was not covered on Apple tutorial.
Do you think any of the manuals that we have to purchase will discuss this issue? Gripe, why does mac give you a program without a manual!!!
So the question is, what is the recommended resolution and format for photos to import to Iphoto or Imovie and be able to have a good quality movie.

the Apple intended workflow is, that stills are managed in iPhoto, and iMovie 'picks up' from there.
this workflows guarantees to some extend a compatibility to iMovie.
iM will not accept 'raws' or CMYK.psd - jpeg, pic, tiff preferred.
there's a flaw, how iM handles portrait-sized pic.. if you want to show them full-sized (=black bars l/r), you have to add those in any pic-processor to make the pic landscape BEFORE import to iM09..

Where's the Basic Photos App?

So, I deleted the basic "Photos" app from my iPhone and iPad, and now I want it back. Unfortunately, it's not in the App Store. You know the one: It's got the yellow sunflower icon, and it now includes Photo Stream. Any thoughts on how I can get the app back? It no longer exists in my device libraries, nor can I find it, well, anywhere. Thanks!

Built-in apps cannot be deleted, and thus, are not available in the App Store. Try going to Settings, then General, then Reset, then proceed to 'Reset Home Screen Layout.'

Can't download basic lessons in GarageBand

I've just bought a keyboard, connected it to my Mac and started GarageBand. The "Intro to Piano" lesson works great, but I can't access any of the other lessons. I go to "Lesson Store" and click the download icon at the bottom right:
This brings up the dialog asking you to purchase (but doesn't give a price?):
Click "Continue". It asks for me to log in to my AppleID. This brings up the next dialog which says that I've already purchased this.
Afterwards, it asks me to log in to my AppleID again, but leaves me at the same "Add more lessons to GarageBand" dialog.
If I go to the App Store, there's an old version of GarageBand (6.0.5), but nothing otherwise that I can see.
If I go back to the Lesson Store again, I can get to the same purchase dialog, but it won't ask for my AppleID. Clicking the continue button does nothing.
So what gives? Have I already purchased this, or do I need to purchase it again?

Check out the article below to get your lessons downloaded to your computer. I know you have done the first part of the steps indicates so I would look at the second part and go to the Apple Online Store to download it from there.

Where can I buy pre-made garageband tracks ?

Hi there everyone !
I love garageband - alot !
I ahve my electric guitar and midi input stuff that works a treat - BUT - I am time poor. I don't have time to record my favorite tracks manually (ie: Stirway To heaven, Superstition etc) as I work 10 hours a day .....
I have done some searching but can't find anyone that retails GarageBand backing tracks that I could play along too.
Does such a plce exist ?

At the moment I am relying on environment variables passed to the JVM
via -D
to tell me a few things that I cannot figure out how to put anywhere
else.
they are the following properties :
irsa.jis.xml.parser class name of a SAX2 parser
irsa.jis.config absolute name of an xml config file that will
contain all
the other app-specific properties I
need.
Any thoughts on the best way to do this without modifying the
startServer script, or hard
coding them?

Where is the Basic photo resize in iPhoto feature

Recently, I found a feature that let me resize photos in Iphoto to various preset sizes and easially export them to my desktop or wherever. The sizes were real baisc, 2 x3 4 x 6 8 x 10 etc but using the custom feature I could resize them perfectly for web photo requirements on Fiverr.
It seemed the setting was on the right margin in Iphoto to resize the images and I did about 8 of them. ...Now I cannot find that feature-
Can anyone help me locate it in Iphoto?

Is there a volume control animator for fine volume control in individual tracks like there was in the earlier version of GB? I can't seem to find it.

there is a button over the track headers that has a couple of horizonal lines, dots, and a diagonal line connecting them, this will display the Automation curves.
you could also enter "automation" under GB's Help menu for more info
