Where is flashpaper?

Hello All,
I had been using Macromedia Studio 8 and was able to convert
documents to FlashPaper. Now that I am using Creative Suite 3 Web
Premium, I seem to longer have FlashPaper. As FlashPaper supposedly
installs with Contribute, I must ask if it still does or am I out
of luck?
Thank you,
edsager

I think you're out of luck:

  • I have a strange object on a webpage that doesn't exist in the design

    I don't know exactly how to describe the problem.
    .. but here it goes:
    First, I'm just an enthusiastic novice. I've done fairly well figuring Studio 8 on my own using a couple of "how-to" 's ... so please excuse the inexact language.
    I have a webpage that consists of a flashpaper document and 3 informational text objects to its right. When I look at the page in dreamweavr that's what i see .. when I upload to the web and then look at my webpage .. there is a large white box occupying the position where the flashpaper doc should be and the doc is instead crammed under the text oblects to the right ...
    I've redone this page numerous times and the problem isn't fixed. I tried to look at the html to see if there was something obvious I could pull out but nothing stood out and the tinkering I did was useless. so, i left it alone and untouched.
    When I look at it in Contribute .. the object is there until I hit "Eit Page"  then the doc moves to the proper position and just to the left of it ot the bttom corner is a mysterious tiny yellow icon that looks like a printer ... its too tiny to be sure and I can't figure out how to zoom into the page for a better look. Is this the culprit? ( Its not selectable or I would just delete it and see what happens.)
    Does anyone have any ideas???
    if it would help to check out the page :  http://www.tejanaworks.com/J%20Zapata%20resume.html
    Thanks a bunch!!!

    A blessing in disguise. Adobe removed Flash Paper and Flash buttons from DW several versions back because they aren't web friendly.

  • Where are the regular maintenance updates?

    Most expensive/professional software I own licences for
    receives maintenance updates and bug fix patches on a regular
    basis. Even with shareware and freeware, the patches and updates
    just keep coming. Flash Professional should certainly be no
    different, there's more than enough bugs to warrant some fixing.
    But what did we get? Nothing! Some measly updates for the Flash
    player, that's all. Clearly Adobe/Macromedia cannot be trusted in
    this department, they just move on to the next project and leave
    users to wrestle with bugs.
    A few examples off the top of my head:
    - The new smoothing algorithm introduced in Flash 8 is
    kaputt. It blurs bitmaps even when they're shown in 1:1 scale,
    anti-aliasing intentionally aliased stuff. Clearly there's some
    rounding error or something messing with the scale of things. For
    example, I used Flash 7 to make document and application icons in
    128x128. They fit exactly to the pixel grid and when I exported
    them from Flash 7 they were sharp as can be. When I export the same
    icons to PNG from Flash 8 at 128x128, using the same source files,
    the edges are suddenly blurred. With some trial and error I
    discovered that I had to export them in 129x129 in order to make
    them look as they did from Flash 7, then crop the picture in
    Fireworks to 128x128.
    - "Convert Lines to Fills" is a mess. It generates a
    completely warped rendition of the selected lines if they overlap.
    You have to walk Flash through the process by selecting a few lines
    well away from eachother, move them away from the rest, convert to
    fills, then repeat this process until you finally get a WYSIWYG
    rendition of the lines you wanted to convert.
    - Various UI graphics bugs. For example if you drag-select
    across a number of layers and frames in the timeline and insert or
    delete, leftovers from the black selection rectangle are still
    visible in the timeline. You have to minimize/maximize the window
    to make it redraw correctly.
    - If I enter W/H/X/Y coordinates for an object, say "10.0",
    it's because I want exactly 10.0. I don't want Flash to arbitrarily
    change it sometimes to 10.1 or 9.9. Sometimes you have to enter it
    twice to make it stick.
    - Flash 'forgets' parts of audio files in the library. I
    import a lot of WAV files to the library, and sometimes a few saves
    down the line I discover there are mysterious silent gaps in the
    audio. I have to re-import the files again to fill these gaps.
    - FlashPaper (it installed correctly on very few computers,
    you had to fix it in a DOS prompt, or FlashPaper would just hang
    when you try to print). I've also had complaints that my FlashPaper
    rendered PDF:s won't open in Mac OS X.
    These are just a handful of examples I can think of at the
    moment, I know I've stumbled upon dozens more and I'm sure there's
    a collective pool of thousands. What I want to know is why
    Adobe/Macromedia feels it's OK to not bother with maintenance
    updates and fixes for a product of this price and magnitude? It's a
    despicable business practice I would expect from shady vaporware
    peddlers.

    It's only your perspective that "nobody seems to care" that
    couldn't be anymore incorrect - I see it
    first hand how dedicated and caring the developers of flash
    are.
    I wont get into a platform war either - but i clearly
    remember the MS promotion MS was using
    claiming the new "Innovative" features of IE7 - specifically
    showcases their new tabbed browsing
    feature and popup stopper - FF had that long before them -
    hardly innovative.
    Vista looks and acts very much like Mac OS - at least on the
    surface. It's so blaringly obvious to
    me that they must have been studying OSX when they were
    deisigning Vista.
    Anyway - i dont really care about OS - and your points are
    totally valid - I'm a PC user only
    because flash always runs better on PC then MAC.
    I just think your claims that nobody cares and complacency
    within Adobe are ill-founded - I am very
    much closer to the people that you are talking about and see
    their dedication first hand for years -
    unless you are as close or closer, it's hard for me to agree.
    But if you feel this way from a users POV - then perhaps
    something is wrong on a marketing level or
    some other area. Flash 8 was developed by Macromedia - the
    next version of flash will be developed
    by Adobe - let's hold of on judging them until they come out
    with the next version - until then,
    complaints of non caring and complacency simply hold no
    weight.

  • PDF to FlashPaper 2

    hi all,
    I'm trying to build an application over Coldfusion that
    implements a conversion from a pdf into a Flashpaper document. The
    only way I had found to do that is using FlashpaperConnect.dll that
    comes with Contribute 3. My problem is that I need to run
    ColdFusion over Linux and Contribut does not have a Linux version.
    Question:
    Is there any library for linux with the same function of
    FlashpaperConnect.dll?
    Anybody know another way to implement this kind of conversion
    that could work in linux?
    Thanks,
    FerSantaFe

    After more research, it looks like in my FlashPaper (made
    from PDF files) the characters are shifted by a consistent amount.
    Using the Unicode character set (you can see a reference in
    Windows XP by going to the Start Menu, then
    Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Character Map), in
    which each character is represented by a number, each character is
    shifted by this function:
    f(x) = 288 - x
    I made a custom search box which translates each character
    the user's looking for behind the scenes and uses the FlashPaper
    API to search for the new, shifted text:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashpaper/2/flashpaper_api/flashpaper_api2. html
    An amusing detail is that in trying to support
    case-insensitive searches, where if they type "cat" and it also
    finds "Cat", the following letters are treated as equivalent in
    searching:
    [=;
    Z=:
    Y=9
    X=8
    W=7
    V=6
    U=5

  • Flashpaper Print Problems..

    Hi There!..
    Here's the issue...
    When printing from a flashpaper file that has been created
    from a pdf,
    there are anomalous elements that do not print correctly. The
    printouts
    from my machine and my colleague's machine show different
    anomalies,
    when printing the same file on the same printer.
    One example is vertically aligned text that is white on a
    coloured bg
    just shows up as a white box.
    Is there a definitive way to create the flashpaper from the
    pdf that will
    prevent this happening? Also, web links in the pdfs do not
    retain their link
    status, and revert to normal text, is there a way to retain
    the links?
    A quick look around the web has shown that many people
    experience odd
    printing behaviours, common comments would be...
    "Apparently it depends on how the Adobe PDf document was
    created or
    how the FlashPaper document was produced from a PDF."
    and..
    "It seems that every different configuration of computer and
    printer gets
    a different result in how the document prints."
    Anyone know of a preferred process for conversion, or suggest
    a way
    to modify or process the pdf prior to conversion that will
    eliminate these
    problems?
    Cheers, JPS

    Drivers are installed both from Windows installs and from Xerox
    http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-7750/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=win7x 64&fileLanguage=sv
    where Web-based Postscript Driver Installer Windows 7 64 bit is chosen.
    Both these drivers have the same problem.
    Windows Update didn´t solve the problem.
    It´s still a mystery.

  • FlashPaper 2 API calls in Flex 2?

    Does anyone know if you can access the FlashPaper 2 methods
    within a Flex 2 application?
    I can get it to display my FlashPaper file, but not resize it
    appropriately or get the current page, etc.
    Thanks,
    K___H

    Hi FlexDude,
    I haven't had a chance to clean things up much, as I've been
    sidetracked with other issues, but here's some code.
    Create an FLA with Flash 8. Insert the following code in the
    first frame:
    //begin Flash code
    var fpClip = createEmptyMovieClip("flashpaper",1);
    var fp;
    _root.flashpaper._visible = false;
    var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    receiving_lc.loadFlashPaper = function(fpFile:String,
    width:Number, height:Number, loadedObj:Object) {
    loadFP(fpFile, width, height, loadedObj);
    receiving_lc.getCurrentPage = function() {
    getCurrentFPPage();
    receiving_lc.setCurrentPage = function(thePage:Number) {
    setFPCurrentPage(thePage);
    function loadFP(fpFile:String, width:Number, height:Number,
    loadedObj:Object) {
    var intervalID = 0;
    var loadFunc = function() {
    _root.flashpaper._visible = false;
    fp = _root.flashpaper.getIFlashPaper();
    if (!fp)
    return;
    if (fp.setSize(width, height) == false)
    return;
    _root.flashpaper._visible = true;
    clearInterval(intervalID);
    loadedObj.onLoaded(fp);
    intervalID = setInterval(loadFunc, 100);
    _root.flashpaper.loadMovie(fpFile);
    function getCurrentFPPage() {
    var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    sending_lc.send("Flex2", "setCurrentFPPage",
    fp.getCurrentPage());
    delete sending_lc;
    function setFPCurrentPage(thePage:Number) {
    fp.setCurrentPage(thePage);
    receiving_lc.connect("FlashPaper2");
    // end Flash code
    Then create your Flex2 Application Add some buttons to
    trigger the following code. Sample code (but this is not a complete
    app):
    private var receiving_lc:LocalConnection;
    private var currentFPPage:int;
    private function initApp():void {
    receiving_lc = new LocalConnection("Flex2",this);
    private function loadFlashPaper():void {
    var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    sending_lc.send("FlashPaper2", "loadFlashPaper",
    "332ldstLNParaBreak.swf", draft.width, draft.height, null);
    private function getFPPage():void {
    var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    sending_lc.send("FlashPaper2", "getCurrentPage");
    private function setFPCurrentPage(thePage:int):void {
    var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
    sending_lc.send("FlashPaper2", "setCurrentPage", thePage);
    // the following function sets the current page in the Flex
    app, that is received from the Flash FlashPaper SWF.
    public function setCurrentFPPage(theValue:int):int {
    currentFPPage = theValue;
    Alert.show("currentFPPage: " + currentFPPage);
    I hope this helps. I chopped this up from my more thorough
    tests -- where I tested a lot of the FlashPaper 2 API methods.
    Hopefully I'll get a chance to elaborate on this a bit at some
    point.
    Good luck,
    K___H

  • Does FlashPaper really work?

    I installed the trial version of FlashPaper. Tried printing
    80 pages from PageMaker 7.0. After 1/2 hour of working I just gave
    up. Then I tried a simple 2 page file from PM 7.0. Same results
    after 15 minutes. Then I drag-n-dropped a 2 page PDF into
    FlashPaper. 15 minutes later I gave up again. I seen one topic
    where the suggested having it on the correct port. Mine is on the
    FlashPaper2Port. How do I get this thing to work? What timeframe
    should I expect?

    JDBC Development Team,
    This is what my colleague found. Is this true? Please send me an email whether this is true or not.
    Thanks!
    -Peter
    There is one cursor created for each addBatch() call. If a prepared statement is used to insert two rows into a table, two cursors are created. Insert 20 rows, 20 cursors are created. That's bizarre, because if a cached prepared statement is used again, the statement's substitution variables probably won't match the values held by the cached cursors. Which means more cursors are created ....
    The sql text from the open cursors looks like:
    SELECT FcstVariablePos, Value FROM fe_pdm_theta_default WHER
    SELECT FcstVariablePos, Value FROM fe_pdm_theta_default WHER
    UPDATE fe_exm_transformation SET Value=:1 WHERE InstanceKey=
    UPDATE fe_exm_transformation SET Value=:1 WHERE InstanceKey=
    UPDATE fe_exm_hier_lvl_params SET Delta=5.0 WHERE InstanceKe
    UPDATE fe_exm_hier_lvl_params SET Delta=0.0 WHERE InstanceKe
    No wonder we reach the max_cursors limit so quickly.
    I wonder, if I do 100 addBatch() calls, do I get 100 cursors? With cached prepared statements, I think the answer is yes. So I guess you can't use addBatch() with cached prepared statements.

  • FlashPaper API Help

    I have been researching FlashPaper and I downloaded the trial
    version, but I cannot determine how to use the API. I can't even
    figure out where it is in the FlashPaper program files. Resources I
    have consulted include the
    FlashPaper
    Documentation and the
    FlashPaper
    Article "Importing FlashPaper 2 Documents into Macromedia Flash and
    Using the FlashPaper API". Neither of these explains clearly
    how to access the API and as I do not have the Flash authoring
    environment, I cannot see for myself how it works. Is the
    FlashPaper API only available in the Flash authoring environment?
    Thank you for your help,
    Joseph

    The trouble with FlashPaper API is that it can only be used
    after you a purchased a Flash development environment, also you may
    find that when you import a flashpaper document into another flash
    movie, the behaviour of the interface will be very different with
    respect to the zoom function and the proporationality of the
    flashpaper window as you resize the browser may look strange.
    I found this web site: https://www.zanzibarfiction.com/shop/
    they sell flashpaper plugins with a removed print or select
    buttons.
    Also they have these different color schemes for Flashpaper
    to match your web site theme - awesome! The plugins can be
    installed very easily into your flashpaper installation. Check it
    out.

  • Fonts aren't shown correct in Flashpaper

    My company provides a macromedia coldfusion mx7
    applicationserver based on linux (Debian Sarge, 3.1). Our
    application uses the Adobe Flashpaper for printpreviews. My problem
    is, that only one fonttype is generated correctly in this
    flashpaper - that's arial - and all the other fonts like Courier
    New, Comic Sans, Times new roman, tahoma, Verdana etc. are shown
    with the same unidentifyable font (shown font looks similar to
    times new roman fonttype).
    *)I've tried the technical documentation of coldfusion for
    font-configuration at a linux box - configuration was successful -
    but fonts didn't work after that procedure. (documentation of
    coldfusion provide following link for that:
    http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/)
    *)i've added these fonts to the font-management of coldfusion
    - but no change
    *)i've installed coldfusion mx7 on a windows xp installation,
    without a modification of the existing fonttypes - and there all
    the fonttypes are printed correctly.
    See following link for some screenshots of my problem:
    Fonttypes
    so my question - how can i check, which fonttypes are
    provided for flashpaper?
    What have i done wrong - where can i configure these
    fonttypes?
    Does an other thread exist for this problem?
    i would be very happy, when someone could help me with this
    problem.

  • How to convert a directory of .doc files to flashpaper swf files

    Hi,
    We are looking forward to use flashpaper as a preview system
    for showing documents in our ASP.NET app.
    We require .NET APIs that can be used to convert office/pdf
    files to flashpaper2 files.
    Is this possible or supported? If yes then How can we achieve
    this.
    TIA,

    Turn off the view in Acrobat option in the Adobe PDF printer and then just drag and drop them on the printer. You may have to figure out where to send them or accept the default, again an option in the printer.

  • Leopard - M.I.A. Printers on Wireless  IP and Flashpaper?

    Hi folks,
    The only main glitch so far with my upgrade from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.2 is my printer situation. Before, my system saw my printer on the wireless router system by default (a Xerox 6200DP) and its IP address. Now, I'm having as much trouble finding my printer as I do with my Windows Laptop, where the dynamic IP causes me to lose the printer upon reboot.
    However, I am able to find my Xerox using Appletalk and local network. The IP of the printer is now assigned, apparently, by my Mac instead of my wireless router (the printer had an IP of 192.168.1..1xx but now is a 169.254.xx IP). And the printer is not seen in my Wireless DHCP clients panel.
    I think the printer is too old to use Rendezvous.. but it was so easy before... I'm curious as to what has happened. I reinstalled printer drivers, but it didn't help. I'm still using it through appletalk.
    The other problem is that while Adobe CS3 works just fine, I seemed to have lost my Flashpaper ability. I was able to reinstall my PPDs from my Previous system folder, but while the printer says it is printing the docs, they are no where to be found. They should print to the desktop.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jeff

  • InDesign and FlashPaper pdfs

    Hi, I work for an educational publishing company and we are
    trying to convert InDesign files to FlashPaper pdfs. We have been
    using the print feature to achieve this, but when we print it takes
    away the "find" or searchable function. Anyone experienced this?
    We're on a tight deadline and need answers fast.

    Like most operations, one tool or the other is more appropriate according to the makeup of the task. It's not just about which PDF is somehow "better," (there are many ways to produce PDF's, and the quality of output isn't necessarily directly dependent upon the originating application), but rather which tool is the correct one for the job.
    For instance, a movie poster can certainly be done completely in Photoshop to good effect. But, if I was laying out the pages of a textbook, where images and longer passages of paragraph-based text were to be mixed, the typographical and document assembly capabilities of InDesign would be indispensible. That's just an example. The very essence of art and design is learning and devising ways to use the available tools alone and in combination to produce a particular result, effect, or solution.

  • FlashPaper printing images problem

    Hi
    I have converted a PDF to FlashPaper. When I view the file on
    the screen, it seems to be a perfect replication of the original
    PDF. The problem occurs when I print the flashPaper. The images on
    the page are not the same as on the screen. It seems as though
    there is a masking problem when printing. I.e. It looks as though
    the original images where layered with masks and this is causing
    the problem. I don't have access to the original images or the
    original source document to edit it.
    Has anybody else experienced the same problems?
    If so, how can I tackle it?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Mac Flashpaper Printer Driver Missing

    I have Macromedia Suite 8 with Contribute 3.11 but cannot
    find the printer driver utility anywhere. It was supposed to be
    installed with the programs on OSX 10.4.x
    Anyone know where or how to find/install/link the printer
    driver for Flashpaper.

    You are wrong about this. Flashpaper is on the Mac and
    requires Contribute 3. I had to reinstall Contribute to get my
    Flashpaper Printer Driver to show up in the Printer list and get it
    to work. It is more seamless on the Mac since you can print from
    any program to Flashpaper. However, Flashpaper doesn't preserve
    hyperlinks in all programs.

  • Trying to restore MS Word menu for FlashPaper

    A year or so ago, I removed the menu from MS Word because
    FlashPaper would give me problems. But I found I could still print
    using FlashPaper as a printer so it was no big deal. Now, I want to
    print word files again but I want the hyperlinks to be valid - for
    some reason I'm guessing can't do that just printing to the
    FlashPaper Printer. So I was wondering how to restore the menu in
    MS Word.
    (of course, if you know how I can get the links working just
    printing to the FlashPaper printer, please let me know!)
    Thanks!

    I take it you are objecting to the lack of passivity in my statements.
    I assumed nothing.
    My statement stands. Healthy humans are making themselves educational cripples by clutching at "smart solutions", which aren't.
    Ms Word manages to mark down the Gettysburg Address and Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" Speech.
    It is no wonder people can no longer spell, find their way around, know where, or what anything is, let alone think for themselves, and get diabetes in their teens. All because they jump on cue when anyone says "Buy".
