Hello Everyone.
I am watching this Tutorial on mocha. Would you please let me know If After Effects CC Comes with mocha.
I have a the creative cloud, Do I need to Download the A/F CS6 to have the mocha ?
Thanks.

Mocha AE is available and is where it always has been - the Animation menu.

  • Where is Mocha?

I was told Mocha is included in CS4 Prod Premium. Where is it? It's not on the install disk or anywhere in the program that I can see.

It's installed automatically in the same folder as the After Effects application.
It only gets installed when you use a retail serial number, not for the trial version.

  • Where is -export rendered shapes in mocha ae "cc" ?

i can't export mattes from mocha to after effects
    i know that's in default :
file > exoprt rendered shapes ..
such as mocha ae cs4.5.and 6
but here in mocha ae cc i can't export mattes ..

It seems to me that the problem is the "special" characters in the path. Change the path to only use  characters that are native to the language in which you're running the software (English).
BTW, a huge number of bugs in this area were fixed in the After Effects CC (12) version.

  • How to get more efficient After Effects and Mocha Integration?

    Hello All
Is there a way to open a previously created Mocha AE project from AE? I am working on a shot that needed tracking and each time I stopped and then came back to the project, I had to open AE, open the AE project, click the clip in the composition, click animation, click track in Mocha AE and then cancel Mocha asking to start a new project and then click file, recent files and choose the appropriate Mocha project.
This works but is really dumb.
I also understand this is the bundled version and that Imagineer really wants me to buy the full version. If I get enough projects to justify it, I will. Currently the bundled version is fine. Just need a shot that AE couldn't handle stabilized.
What would be even better is if AE saw the Mocha program as an effect. Click a clip and then apply Mocha AE Tracking from the effects and presets panel. And then be able to do the track in the Mocha interface and then using the effects controls tell it to apply the track as either stabilization, corner pin data or whatever from the AE interface when the clip is selected.
Does anyone else think this would be a much better way of using Mocha? Am I the only one who feels this way? Was there something I missed in creating my project?

Thanks for the reply but... I think maybe I might not have communicated my thoughts correctly.
I am working on a video that is going to be 1/2 hour long. Part of my footage is from a handheld camera. One section of the footage needs to be stabilized. So I right click on the clip in Premiere and replace with an After Effects Composition.
Now I tried to track just using AE but that was a wash. So I figured I would track it in Mocha. Then I spent at least 1/2 an hour looking for Mocha in my start menu and on my hard drives in places that programs usually reside. Then when I didn't find it I went to the Creative Cloud site (I am a subscriber) and checked to see why I was having a hard time finding it. Then I got a little panicked trying to find out if it was still bundled with CS6 as I couldn't find mention of it there. The Imagineer site said it was, but it was not in my start menu and I couldn't manually find the executable where I expected it to be.
So then after a short Google search I found that it was on the animate menu in AE. (Whew )
So I opened the AE project I had created for tracking the clip and clicked animate and saw that the track in Mocha AE was grayed out. (oh boy...) I immediately went to the edit menu and clicked preferences, general. I looked through the choices and tried to find where I was supposed to "turn on" Mocha. Couldn't find anything related.
So I selected the clip in the composition timeline. Chose Animate and then the choice was available and I clicked Track in Mocha AE.
Now Mocha asked to create a new project. Basically took the defaults and then I had to wait a while as Mocha cached the clip. Once the clip was cached I got started finding the relevant area of the footage and set up the x spline for tracking on the first frame. Then I saved so I could start again the next day without having to wait and went to bed happy.
The next day when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I tried to find Mocha in my start menu, I figured that maybe it would show up now because I had used it once. Didn't so I found it in Program files tucked away in a secret folder in the Adobe folder sets and created a short cut and double clicked it. It told me that I had to start it from inside AE.
So I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip. I made sure everything was set up correctly, looked at the spline layer and felt I was good to go so I hit the forward track button. The clip has a frame length of 21752 frames. At frame 9199 I had to stop working and do other things. I stopped the tracking and saved the project.
The next day when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip. I made sure everything was the same as I had left it the previous day and then found the end of the previous days work and moved Mocha's CTI to the spot where I needed to track from. I hit the track forward button. It told me the footage was different or too dark from previous frames and that it couldn't continue. HUH?
So I noticed that there was a different coloration on the frame timeline indicator. There was a blue section, where I had previously tracked and a red section, which I assumed meant it was untracked. I moved the CTI back into the blue section and hit track forward. Everything worked. Then I got to a section that had people obscuring the part of the shot that I was doing my tracking on. Time to create an exclusion x spline layer. I found the first frame where the people would become a problem and surrounded them. Everything was good even though it was taking 7 extra steps to get to the start of working on the clip each time. So I saved and went to bed.
Should I bother to tell you what happened the next?
The today when I was ready to start tracking that footage again I opened the previous days AE Project and clicked the clip chose Animation and clicked track in Mocha. Mocha wanted to start a new project based on the clip I had to select in order to get the menu choice from inside of AE, so I canceled that and then Mocha opened and I chose recent files and the previous days project.
And then I waited again as Mocha re-cached the clip.
This work flow is aggravating. I have to take extra steps, wait at least 5 minutes for caching each time and then wait for the actual track itself. I have used Mocha before and so I know how to use it, I know the different ways of getting the data to AE, but the problem is not the end of the workflow, it is getting to the start of the work each time I have to close the project(s) that is the problem.
This "workflow" is making me want to see if there is a better way or another program that will help in correcting shaky footage. Yes I get back to exactly where I left off, but the point is the amount of work to it takes to just start working on my project again. I wonder how anyone can tolerate the process.
Is there some magic menu choice or setting somewhere I am missing? Do you feel that this process is "normal"?

  • Mocha & Keylight: problems with a greenscreen on the iPad

    Hey guys,
at the moment I am doing my first greenscreen project with an iPad (and a TV). But I have a few problems with the turbulent footage.
In the first picture you can see the tracked path on the iPad with Mocha. Everything moves really fine in the final result (see second picture). But there is a lot green left in the person's face and around the screen that I need to get rid of.
So my first question: How do I get rid of those green diffuse edges around the screen and the green in the face?
I tried several keying effects including keylight etc. – nothing worked. Either the green from the plants around dissappeared or it looked really edged. Is the only possibilty using moving masks? Or is there a more precise method?
Second question: How can I isolate the hand from the greenscreen while interacting "over" the iPad? I have a few sequences where the hand of the person is interacting on the (green)screen. So I need to get the screen behind the hand although everything's moving :-/ Is that possible?
Thanks a lot for your support!

Green isn't wrong, but you'll get a better result using tracking and roto using a dark gray screen unless the objects passing in front of the screen are very complex. The dark gray screen allos you to pick up reflections and add them to the composite easily. It just looks more real. Mocha can generate the roto as well as the track. If you have a lot of movement then you have the same problems that you have with a bunch of movement on a green screen set. Edge contamination, motion blur, details being lost. With lots of detail and lots of movement you need a very good camera with a very good lens and a lossless or nearly lossless original. Shooting with a professional cine camera that shoots raw or 10 bit uncompressed is the only way to capture that kind of fine detail and pull it out in a key. Consumer and prosumer cameras just dont give you the color information or the resolution necessary to really do a great job with fine details. Acceptable for most work but not great.
I guess my point is that if you shoot on a green screen you have to plan for color suppression and spill control on set. Plan your back lighting, and accept the fact that you'll have to do a bunch of color correcting and color suppression that you don't have to do if you shoot for roto. This gets into art direction, costuming, and set design. It's all about planning and the quality of the photography. If you are going to suppress green then you better not have anything in the scene that is important and green. Look at what happened to the green in the flower arrangement and the green in the plants in the window in my example below. A good set designer would have worked around that or let you know that you needed to do some rough roto work on the piece to restore those greens in the shot.
I've done a ton of screen replacements for phones and ipads. We carefully plan the shoot so that there's just a bit of simple roto work. If we do need to use green screen (or blue or orange depending on the art direction of the scene) we keep the exposure levels down and the reflected light down. The biggest problem you have in your scene is that the green from the TV and the green from the tablet are so bright they are acting as light sources for the set. This is where an experienced cinematographer or vfx supervisor would have saved you a bunch of time in post.
When you're stuck with footage with a lot of spill you have to isolate that spill and try and remove as much color as you can.
Try this with keylight. I'm using your mocha.png. I set keylight to view the corrected source then set foreground color correction to on and set color suppression to green, then I set edge color correction to on and set color suppression to green. There is no green left in the image. Your green edges should be gone completely. As you can see, with these settings, the green from both screen is completely gone.
To restore the green in the flower arrangement and the window just duplicate your keyed layer, do a rough roto around the flowers and the plants and reduce the color correction and color suppression to bring back the color there.
This shows you that you'll need another layer to fix the color problems. Most of my work that involves keying results in a comp with 5 or 6 layers just to control the color, most of them copies of the main plate (green screen footage) two or three copies of the replacement footage (things that fill the green screen) a layer for light wrap, a layer for lighting effects, one or two layers for reflections if there are shiny things that are being keyed. and an adjustment layer for final color correction. Sometime two or three adjustment layers for color correction.
Great compositing is seldom if ever two layers and one instance of Keylight.

  • Problems getting data out of Mocha and into After Effects

Hi.  I'm using After Effect CS4.  I brought a video clip into Mocha and tracked it.  I've tried copying the data to clipboard and also went back and saved as a text file since I could't paste into After Effects.
Haven't figured out how to make either method work.
At first, I'd created a Null Object in AFX and added the COrner Pin Effect, but the paste option is greyed out - doesn't matter if I select the layer or the Corner Pin effect.
Next I created a solid since I'd seen that mentioned on some threads, but Paste is still greyed out.
Tried exporting the tracking data as a file from mocha next and have the corner pin data sitting on my desktop as a txt file - but still not sure how to get that into After Effects CS4 - tried this with a null and a solid, but not working.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Also - It pastes unmoving data as well into the Postion, Scale, and Rotation of the solid as well as the Corner Pin Effect.
Yes, AE's corner pin does the same. It's how it is supposed to work. You need to choose the RG Warp compliant variant to only get corner pin data. The rest is too vague. Wee need exact info on what you are doing. Tracks appearing to be static is simply an issue where coordinates are introduced twice and somehow self-compensate, which for all intents and purposes could relate to the previously described issue....

  • Mocha Corner Pin Data Changing Scale of Solid Layers (CS6)

Hi, im new to the adobe forums (not after effects though) and im having some trouble with Mocha tracking corner pin data. I have been practicing this sub-surface skin effect from Iron Man 3 that Video Copilot made a tutorial on, but im having some problems. The first time i did it, everything went fine. I got the effect the way I wanted it and it looked amazing. The second time, things began to go wrong. I had all my footage elements in the correct place and pre-composed. I had tracked out everything in Mocha previous to creating the effect. I selected the correct corner pin data type (the one that does not support motion blur) and copied to clipboard. I pasted it onto the composition with all the effects footage and... it got about 3 times smaller. Ive tried to do this many times since then and it keeps happening. Ive resorted to using a null object when this happens, but i want to know what im doing wrong. Ive looked all over the web and someone has probably posted a fix somewhere, but im tired of looking. Please, if you know whats going on, reply.
    Thanks Again,
    DaKernel
    CS6 of course

I took some photos of a simpler version of whats going on.
Just in AE with my footage.
    About to track in mocha.
Tracked in mocha (only tracked half because i didnt want to wait).
Adding a solid to paste my corner pin data to.
Masked it to where I wanted it.
Selected the type of data I wanted.
    Copy to clipboard.
    Paste.
Great... the insert image thing grayed out.
Going to have to post the last pic separately.

  • Aligned surface in mocha does not result in 100% scale layer

    Hi!
I have to track a plane from a certain reference point. I want the layer that is to receive the corner pin (which is actually just a time-frozen frame at that reference point, masked) to be 100 percent scale at that moment, naturally.
However when I track the plane, align the surface at the reference time and export the corner pin data to the layer, I get a scale value of about 400 percent which mocha compensates with making the corner pin smaller. This results in completely blurred footage at what should be a 100% scale freeze point. I don't really get where I am going wrong, I thought align surface would automatically create a frame where all would be unchanged?
Hope you can get me some hints, thanks!
    -Alex Bardosch
Edit: Mocha Version 3.1.0 build 6407 After Effects CC

Ok the normal corner-pin-only mode did work as intended. Still strange, but at least I could find a way around the problem.

  • Sizing issue when pasting corner pin data from mocha ae onto a solid layer. Please help!!

When I bring in my corner pin tracking data from mocha ae and paste it onto a solid layer that I created, it sizes the layer to the corner pins, but I want it to stay the whole size of the screen. I'm following a tutorial at the address http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/sub_surface_skin/   and there is no mention of this problem in the tutorial. I am following the tutorial exactly, and using the latest version of After Effects. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Mocha AE CS6 Cache Directory

I accidently changed in mocha AE cs6 the Cache Directory folder on my mac, how do I reset it to its original folder it was assigned to?
    Also...
When I opened mocha AE CS6, I get a pop up saying "Failed to open file /Volumes/amixprayer/Art Institute/Quarter 7/Intermediate Motion Graphics/A01/Film Clips/CONTENTS/VIDEO/0001N1.MXF: corrupt or in unsupported format"
Every single time I open Mocha, this screen pops up and I can't stop it.
How do I make it stop?

These options can be changed from File --> Preferences. If you cannot access this, then you'll have to delete the prefs manually. No idea where this data is stored on the Mac, but Iwould presume somewhere in Users:Silva:Library:Preferences. If so, there surely is some file to delete there. on windows it's stored in the Registry...

  • Mocha error, what am i missing?

    Hi guys,
Thanks for looking in. I am trying to track a peice of footage using Mocha. I keep getting an error. The scene is a building pics below. I am trying to track that area with the mask. My footage starts on the area of mask (where the fire is going) Bystander watching. camera pans off that as somone comes around building to the Left. (you don't see that here) However it seems that once the track gets to the end of the mask, 'she spits the bit'.
When it gets to the end of my Out point see pic 3 or 4
That is where the camera pans completely off that area and it is as though Mocha cannot calibrate or find itself. I marked an in and out. via * in AE and in Mocha's TL using In and Out.  Yet keeps kicking it.. I am trying to line it up on a plane real well. I have watched a few lessons on this too. The latest from Dr Mathias over on Mamoworld. A real good webinar however I am not getting to a point to copy and Null. See Pic 3 for Error and note how my mask is pitching abit on a shear... Thanks for any suggy's.

Al'right Boys.... I got it! The mask is VERY, sensative. I lowered it to the bottom plane and it stuck this time. I used the lower line and created a smaller Mask. In lou of the error telling me to use a bigger area....?
That is why you guys could not answer right away as usual. It was right my mask was not tight on a plane. Thanks just the same.

  • Mocha "whiteout" - all is white

I installed Mocha For After Effects a couple of days ago, and all worked fine. When I fire it up today, the viewport is all white, I see no video images at all. Mocha can load my video, fine. It detects the correct amount of frames in the video, no prob. And it works its way through all frames, caching the video.
However - I see no video? I have tried all kinds of settings etc, still the panel where my video used to be is white as snow. I have tried with a variety of videos - all is white. Is there a method "reset all to default" or anything I can try? Or does anybody know what setting I might have tweaked to get this "whiteout"?
All is white - only white..

    Hi Todd,
I only use lossless compressison, like the Lagarith (32 and 64 bit). This topic has been discussed for weeks and months over in the Sony Vegas user groups, where I use to hang out. Sony Vegas supports the MXF file format, almost same file sizes as the AVCHD files (MTS, M2TS etc), and almost no visible (actually I can't se any) degradation in 3rd and 4th, or even eight generation.
I am old enough to have worked with both analog sound and analog video, so I know what this is about.
"Pure" AVI (uncompressed) should be the safest bet.. but they become H U G E..
Well, what I do in my workflow, is to use proxy files (in Vegas the MXF format) and do the final render using the original files. This topic is about Mocha, and here I (up till now at least) only use Mocha to generate tracking data.
    Edited:
There are several AVI codecs that work fine in Mocha according to some tests I made just now:
    Cinepak
    Intel
    Microsoft Video 1
    And something called TechSmith

  • Mocha stabilize CS4

I imported a clip (Cineform), did the tracking and finally exported the tracking data.
    Saved it to notepad.
Opened AE seleted the clip, go to notepad and copy date,
But then AE does not let me paste the datea on the clip, Paste (ctrlV) is grayed out.
Where did i go wrong, did excatly (i think) what was shown in the Mocha tutorial from ImagineerSystems.

  • Cant find Mocha shape import ability in AE 5.5

I have exported a rotoshape from Mocha for AE 2.6. I dont see any option to import that shape in AE 5.5. Promotional literature says that ability is included in AE CS5 (unlike CS3 where I had to purchase it as a seperate plug in from Imagineer). I thought it would be in the Import drop down, but I dont see it.

    Glad you found it.
In the future, if you have mocha-related questions, you might get a faster answer on the mocha forum:

  • Tracker AE or Mocha..Tip or Trick for hanging on to track?

    Hello Guys,
Thanks for being here. I am trying to track a 25 second spot and Mocha keeps kicking the track. My settings match (See pics) I get about halfway thru and my track flies off the spot. I am trying to figure how to add some texture to my foootage so Mocah or AE has something to calibrate off of. Right now I am re trying with Motion Tracker, as I have had many failed attempts trying Mocha. no matter where I place the track screen/matte. To then tie it to a null in my comp. I tried corner pin which worked in the first part of the comp fine. But the second part had a slight jitter and a pan that kicks it... Any ideas on how to get the track to stick? Other then a manual KF? I started that and there are about 550 easy that need attention... Yikes! Right.
    TRACK:
    Point my Track Kicks:

    HI Rick,
Yes, you are correct in my goal of tracking the window area to place my sign. I agree with you about the sign looking better in the middle and Rotoing my actor to have the ability for him to pass in front. As of now I am concerned with getting a proper track for that window, to not be jittery and look like what it is. Superimposed graphic stuck in there.
Thanks for the video links, they are appreciated. I search around and find a ton of stuff that is a regirg of another lesson. I will take the time to watch those. Thank you for the layout of the track matte, or spline placement. (which I think are one in the same?)
A couple of clarity questions please:
YOU-The 4 green splines are what I would use to track the shot. If they hold position properly then you can accurately set up another spline and use that as a matte. ~  You are referring to 4 seperate mattes in green in your original illustration?  I ask because, I only see one layer in your illustration, yet there are 4 mattes/splines? I am hav not noticed before if I can create more then one spline/matte in a layer?
YOU-The other layer would become Layer 2 in Mocha and you would link it to the track you get with layer 1.
~The "other layer"-this being the first layer with 4 splines? I ask becuase again I did not see a layer for those 4 splines in your C.P in the original Illustration, which I think you are referring to?
Maybe the videos will enlighten me a bit more...
The reason you did not address some of my previous questions is becuase my assumptions were correct in regards to the "lingo"?
I figured out how to move the matte as one unit BTW.... Marquee and drag it around with the Move Icon
The key to using mocha is to end up with a good track. I'm assuming that your layer kicking out means that you are having problems with the track and it is requiring a lot of adjustments--Correct. Kick means to fly off set point.
Thanks for showing me a better way to track that shot. I was not thinking out of the box. Literally, I was making boxes. What you did was trace the columns wich have texture. And not making boxes. Appreciated. I will watch those videos.
One more note, I am going to re-master my asset in PPro, I sped up the footage to 150% for a silent movie feel as this will be done that way and tooning will be added to this. Do you think the 150 Time change over in PP and exporting a Uncompressed AVI at 29.9 FPS would cause Tracker to "Spit the Bit" or Kick?
