Which iLife for Powerbook G4 without intel processor - using OS 10.5.8

I just upgraded to OS 10.5.8 and no longer have iPhoto - I did not realize it was an additional program I would need to purchase. Does anyone know which iLife version I should get - I do not have an intel processor. Thanks!!

I am, to say the least, disappointed to see that your programmers could not have found a way to fit its users whose Macs are without Intel processors into the penumbra of the new Snow Leopard Operating System. We bought our Apple computers with OS X, in part, due to the promise of high quality and durability. However, now that the machines have indeed proven durable, I feel we are being shut out of future enhancements of this OS, and, potentially, future operating systems as well. It is my hope that you will release updated versions of Snow Leopard and future operating systems that will embrace the vast majority of your customers who have products which do not have Intel processors, and that appear likely to otherwise continue in operation for many years into the future.

Exactly what model? Do you really mean the old MacBook with the dual core processor or do you mean one using a Core 2 Duo  processor?
The last OS X that runs on a dual core Mac would be:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;

  • Powerbook G4 and Intel processor

NBCOlympics.com allows viewing Olympics video but only if you have Intel processor. I have a Powerbook G4 - is there anyway to change this to intel processor?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There is no technical reason why the Olympic committee couldn't have chosen a Mac OS X native video format that works on PowerPC Macs. But they obviously didn't. They are the one you should address your complaint to. Tell them that Macs have had video capable formats of streaming live TV since at least 1995. Intel Macs have only been around since 2006. They are excluding 11 years of Mac models at a bare minimum if not more. You know how I know 1995 was a year that could happen? Streaming videochat was available on a PowerMac 9500 using Cu2seeme based on Apple's own Quicktime codecs. No reason that couldn't have been used in the Olympics for those with older machines.

  • Which iLife for my Mac?

    I have the following:
Power Mac G4 (digital Audio). 533mhz. 1.5gb memory. Running Tiger.
Really need to have iPhoto. This is daughter's computer and we need her to be able to store and organize photo's and photo imports from the internet for school projects.
I realize many of them have system requirements of 600mhz or more. I do not want or need iDVD, Garageband, iMovie or iTunes (already has this one). Just iPhoto. Do I really need the higher mhz for just the iPhoto part or is that for the Garageband/iMovie stuff?
If so, can I get iPhoto from the iLife '04 or '05 version and have it work?
Did Apple Chat - one recommended getting a new computer (can't afford that and the G4 was a freebie). Went back to ask if the mhz rating was just for the "big" stuff and basically it was "I don't know, just have '08 requirements in front of me". Big help that was.
Any Apple experts to help me figure this out and what iLife version I can use the iPhoto on with the G4?

You can use the version of iPhoto from any iLife package with your configuration.

  • Is there a way to get data to and from the hard drive of a Powerbook 180 without having to use the floppy drive?

    Howdy folks!
I have an 20 year old Powerbook 180 with what I think is an unreliable floppy drive. Sometimes while accessing a diskette the screen flickers and usually power to the whole computer drops out.
I'm not familiar with Mac connectivity. Is there a way to access the hard drive--to get data off of, and install files, etc onto, the hard drive? 3.5 inch drives are 20th century.
But... I am happy because my old Powerbook still boots up just fine and I can look at my old files installed on the HD ok.
    Thanks,
    Hayward Matt

    Hi Hayward,
This may be a power supply issue, not necessarily a problem with the floppy drive itself. Any change if you try removing the battery?
Would it be correct to assume that it is a plain PowerBook 180 (not 180c)? Which power adapter are you using? It must have a 7.5 DC output, but is it capable of supplying at least 2.0 A?
Unfortunately it is difficult to remove and connect the (2.5" SCSI) hard drive to a modern computer. Had it been 2.5" IDE, things would have been much easier.
It is possible to set up a serial null-modem connection from a PowerBook 180 to another computer. See the following discussion for details:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4974860
If the PB 180 has an internal modem (or an external modem connected to the modem port), you could send files to another modem-equipped computer over the phone lines. With the proper software installed, the PB 180 can even use a dial-up Internet connection.
Alternatively, another semi-old (pre-1998) Macintosh computer with built-in Ethernet could be used as an intermediary, You could use LocalTalk (or a plain Mac printer cable) for file sharing between the PB 180 and the semi-old Mac (the latter could then forward files over a local network or via the Internet). It is also possible to connect the PB 180 to the semi-old Mac in SCSI disk mode (see the user guide below for additional information).

  • Can we change the UserID for a document without logging off using DIAPI

Is it possible to change userid in a document using DI API?
The senario is that I have logged in with a user for which there is no authorization to add or update BP Master.
But in a special case I want him to change a particular field.
So how can i do this.
If yes, can somebody help me on how we can do this...

Sorry I don't really have time for a full sample so the basic idea is:
DI_company1 -> This is your logon with the user who is not authorised. When they trigger the scenario where they need to update the field they are not authorised for (and I can't give you a sample for that, it is completely up to your scenario) do the following
    DI_Company2 = new SAPbobsCOM.Company
//Here supply it with all the usual connection information to your DB but
//with a user who *IS* authorised
    DI_Company2.Connect()
    SAPbobsCOM.Documents oDocument = DI_Company2.GetBusinessObject(oOrders);
    oDocument.GetByKey(keyOfDocumentToUpdate)
oDocument.MyFieldToUpdate = "Value to Update with"
    oDocument.Update()
    DI_Company2.Disconnect()
The basic idea is that you are connecting a second time with your addon, with a new company object, using a user who is authorised & then disconnecting when finished. Your original connection (DI_Company1) is still connected and valid.
Code is a horrible mix between VB and C# syntax because I don't have an editor to hand
    Good luck!

  • How can I upgrade PowerPC PowerBook G4 to intel?

My brother's old PowerBook G4 was recently passed down to me since he passed a couple weeks ago. I am in college now and thought it was a good idea to use it for school. I found alternate programs that don't need intel processors; however, some programs required for my classes need intel processors. I was wondering if I can upgrade my new PowerPC's hardware to upgrade to later software without losing important data and a way that doesn't cause problems. Is it even possible the change the hardware?
    Specs:
    1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 processor
    1.25 GB RAM
    Thanks in advanced.

I've been looking for a Frostwire download, but the latest one I was able to find was 4.18.1. It only stays at "starting connection" when my internet connection is perfectly fine. Any later update will ask for Java update 1.6, which apparently isn't compatible. Does Apple even allow those kind of programs?
And as for document creating programs, I use OpenOffice. It's not an exact mirror of MS Office, but it gets the job done. Especially for a college student with a low budget.
    I am confused...
You need Intel to run an internet browser and OpenOffice?

  • Where can I get an external mobil hard drive to back up my PowerBook G4 without the Intel processor?

Gee, I hope I understand this right, you can get a Terabyte from Walmart for around $120.00.
There is one major problem with the drives you get from just walking into a Walmart or Costco or Best Buy: They are usually one interface only, and that interface is USB. That's not a problem for new Macs with USB 3, where mass-market USB 3 drives are a great and cheap solution.
But for regular transfers with older Macs, I have always found great benefit in using a drive with multiple interfaces that bridge old and new Macs and PCs. The USB version in the PowerBook, USB 2.0, has always been a slow solution. It's slower than FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and Gigabit Ethernet. For my regular backups on G3/G4 Macs and most MacBook Pros, FireWire or Gigabit Ethernet have always been the way to go because they just save so much time over USB 2.0. Maybe not for small incremental daily backups, but when moving large collections of music/videos/photos, or especially when migrating to newer equipment.
That is why like the others here, I greatly prefer the OWC drives with multiple interfaces. The slow, awful USB ports work well for old FireWire-less Macs and for PCs, while FireWire 800 and eSATA get full-disk backups and mass transfers done in a fraction of the time as the poor soul waiting for USB 2.0 to finish. (Today's multi-TB disks can take hours to copy even with FireWire 800.)
If the priority is to save money over saving time, a cheap USB drive is fine, and USB 3 will be much faster than FireWire when you get a new Mac. But I've long valued the ability of a multi-interface drive from OWC to plug into any Mac or PC put in front of me and be able to transfer data using whatever the fastest option is.
I wouldn't worry about formatting drives from non-Mac stores since that takes about 10 seconds in Apple Disk Utility.

    Hi,
I am buying a new laptop for 34000 rs (700$) . I am configuring it for my office use. i am oracle apps developer.

Which processor will best handle Oracle 10G database? Inter Core Duo  or   AMD Turion?

I remember that we had installed oracle10g on my friends AMD desktop....and that had killed the performance like crazy. It must have something to do with the configuration of instance. I have at least two desktops running AMD and it works perfectly fine.

The laptop i m buying is *250 GB HDD, 2 GB RAM and windows vista*.As Nicolas has rightly pointed out in his post, which version of Vista is this? Remember that Vista Home edition is not supported by Oracle. You might get the things to run but you cannot guarantee the stability.
The only thing i m confused bout is whther i shud go for AMD or Inter core processor.
In this case, this would be a matter of personal choice. Both processors are at par with each other (now I am not going into the details of architecture and other things).

  • Which version of Flash Player is best for Powerbook G4 10.5.8?

    Hi,
    I have a Powerbook g4 17" 1.67ghz with 2gb of ram and 128mb video.
I thought this would be pretty good on the web but even basic video clips play poorly.
Looking around flash seeems to be the culprit so is it better to run an older version of flash or is there anything i can do?
Also how can i tell which version i am running?
    Thnaks.

I'm afraid nothing will completely fix streaming video problems on any PPC-based Mac since web video is now optimised for Intel processors. Probably the best functionality you can hope for is by following Texas Mac Man's advice in this recent thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/17558876#17558876
The hack Tom has found has some advantages over the standard Flash Player version when used in conjunction with specific websites.
To find out which version of Flash you currently have installed open a Flash video stream and control click on the window. Amongst other things this will display the version information.

  • Which models have an Intel processor?

Hi, I don't know if it's possible, but I was wondering if someone could tell me which of these g5 macs (if any) have an intel processor just by looking at the spec I have available?
1: PC Dual 2 Ghz Processor, 2.5 Gb Ram, 160 Gb Hard Disc
2: PC, 1.8 Ghz, Processor, 1.5 Gb Ram and 150Gb Hard Disc
    3: Apple G5 Tower PC - 4 x 2.5GHz, 6.5GB Ram
    4: Apple G5 Tower PC - 2.5GHz 4 x CPU, 5GB Ram
    5: Apple G5 Tower PC - Dual 2GHz, 7GB Ram
I am looking through an auction and the info is limited.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thank you.

There are people even here who say "I have G5 Mac Pro" or once in a while "G6" and all because the silver case looks close from the outside.
2 x 2.8 was Mac Pro Early 2008 and is still one of the best Mac Pro systems today. Check out Barefeats 3D results today - it can be outfitted iwth the latest ATI 5870 ($449 / 1GB DX11 OpenGL 4.0)
So while the seller sounds clueless the system is nice, goes for $2500 range or slightly less.
Then compare to Apple Store Specials (yes, that model was listed there up until about 3 months ago sometimes, or the 2008 3.2GHz).
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro
Then head over to GeekBench and see what "MacPro3,1" scores.
    http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/search?q=MacPro3%2C1
A mistake? A typo, and seems it isn't the original owner but maybe someone that deals in used equipment and in trade-ins etc, that is still worth a 2nd look though.

Hello, don't worry, you CAN set up Mail in iCloud at the very least.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.

    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
