Which Laptop is good for VS 2012/2013 and SQL SERVER 2008 R2 /2012 ?
Hi,
I am planing to buy a laptop.
I am gonna be using mostly for Visual sStudio 2013 and Sql Server 2012 .
my budget is $1000.
confuse between DELL/ HP / LENOVO..!!!
please help.
This is only a personal taste of mine:
I prefer to work in Virtual Machines. In fact I did set up a VM just for my programming. This has the advantage that games and other stuff are not slowed down by SQL Server Services and similiar stuff.
This also allows me to quickly make a small virtual networks with multiple clients if I need to test some client/server stuff.
Plus I am also a bit of an adminstrator and prefer to test stuff in VM's before I try them in the real world.
I prefer using Virtual Box for Virtual Machines, so one thing of big importance was support for VT-X/AMD-V. Without them Virtual Box cannot run x64 guests even on a x64 host system.
Otherwise I wanted Windows 8 (so I could finally learn to live with it/learn programming for it's UI). And of big importance was an upgrade of gaming ability (my old one had difficulty/impossibility to run most current games).
So I bought a x64, Win8 Gaming Laptop with 8 GiB RAM (so I can run 3-6 Windows 7 hosts in paralell) and looked that the CPU supported Hardware Virtualsiation.
Otherwise pretty much every current laptop will work. x64 OS might be prefereable, as .NET has some limitations under x32/x86 OS (like the
2 GiB limit). Multicore (2 or more) is pretty much the state of the art (are there still any single core CPU's out there?).
It of course needs to be a Windows (7 or 8) to support VS. New Laptops should have UEFI (all that are sold with Windows 8 have).
If you do not need a lot of storage, using a SSD instead of a HDD will propably speed up startups (Windows, Programms) and compilation times a lot (those are disk-heavy operations) - but I only know that it should and heard of people who have them.
Let's talk about MVVM: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/b1a8bf14-4acd-4d77-9df8-bdb95b02dbe2 Please mark post as helpfull and answers respectively.

i have macbook 5.2 and i am using Mac OS 10.5.8 . which one is good for me to upgrade and how to do that..plz help me
You have a 13" Early or Mid 2009 MacBook. Either one can run OS X Mavericks with enough RAM, 2 GB minimum. But first you will need to update to OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 so that you have the Mac App Store installed on your MacBook
Buy this from apple;
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then download and update with this update combo;
OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 v1.1 update combo
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
After this you will have the Mac App Store on your MacBook and you should be able to download and install OS X Mavericks for free!
Your MacBook must meet these minimum tech specs to run Mavericks;

Which version of crystal reports can link to Windev 14 and SQL server 2008 applications
I am developing an application with windev 14 and sql server 2008, i would like to know which version of crystal report can i use?
Hi GS,
Move to .NET SDK forum.
I don't know how CR for Visual Studio will integrate into WinDev but to get the installer for VS 2010/2012/2013 go to this page:
SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio: Updates & Runtime Downloads
It's the runtime for CR 2011 or 2013 now.
As for SQL 2008 you need to install the Client tools and when creating reports use the SQLNCLI10.dll as the client DB driver for ODBC or OLE DB.

SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server AlwaysOn - HA
Hi guys,
Please help!
I need to setup SP13 server on SQL 2012 AlwaysOn (on sql01 and sql02). The HA AlwaysOn group already configured by DB team on these 2 replica with and called SP_AOAG alias
My question is can I use this alias to setup SharePoint or I need to configure the HA AlwaysOn group for SgharePoint as suggested in the article below:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sambetts/archive/2013/04/24/sharepoint-2013-and-sql-server-alwayson-high-availability-sharepoint.aspx
Any advice greatly appreciated .
BalaiPYou do not want to use a SQL Alias with an AG Listener. Just point SharePoint straight at the AG Listener. You will need to manually add any accounts to non-primary instances. You do not need to add them to individual databases, of course. You will also
need to manually set MAXDOP to 1 on non-primary instances.

Java for PI 7.1 EHP1 in Windows and SQL Server 2008
Hi Gurus
I try to install PI 7.1 EHP1 in Windows and SQL Server 2008. The questions is :
What version of java is the correct for this installation???
And where i can download it??
Thanks and advance!!!Hi Aaron,
The version for PI 7.1 is 1.5, instead of the 1.4.2 of 7.0/3.0.
Anyway, for VM settings, you should refer to SAP JVM, which
is used for the PI 7.11.
Hope it helps!

Upgrade DTSX packages from VS 2010 with SQL Server 2008 to VS 2013 and SQL Server 2014
Hello everyone,
I’m very new to SSIS world. I’ve been assigned a task to upgrade the existing packages running in VS 2010 with SQL Server 2008 to VS 2013 and SQL Server 2014. And then submit the migration report to my client.
On very quick search at Google, I've found the following link. It seems like I just need to open the existing SSIS project in VS 2013 and follow the wizard.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280547.aspx
Can anybody please advise, are there any other things need to be taken care while doing this up gradation process?
Please share your experience.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the response.
I just got an access of the packages. They are of VS 2008 and not 2010.
Do you know how to upgrade VS 2008 packaged to VS 2013?
When I tried to open the solution file in VS 2013, it says "incompatible".
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ankit

Hi All,
Is it possible to create a two node cluster with SQL server 2012 STD on node1 and SQL Server 2008 ENT on node2 on a Windows server 2012?
aaI think you are confused with the way cluster is installed. Installing SQL on cluster is a two step process. On first node you create a new SQL cluster and on second node you need "AddNode" action.
Same edition media has to be used in above two operation.
you can install two separate instances with one enterprise and one standard.

SharePoint 2013 + SQL Server 2008 vs 2012
I am trying to determine the best course of action when building a new SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Farm. Should we use SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012? I have found some information online, but I wanted to know if there were more pros and cons to SQL
2012 over 2008. Can anyone tell me if my short list is adequate enough? Also, are there any integration concerns with other applications that I may need to look out for by using SQL 2012 that don't exist in SQL 2008?
The list of benefits of SQL 2012 over SQL 2008 I know of include:
AlwaysOn
Read-Only Secondary
Contained Database
ColumnStore Indexes
Shredded Storage
PowerPivot BI
Reporting Services BI
Are there any negatives to using SQL 2012?
Thanks,
AlexAlex,
The only negatives I have seen are
1. You must be careful that the AOAG configuration is supported. For many cases like the config DB, Async mode is not supported for DR.
2. Microsoft has not published their support stance for Many DBs yet.
So for example for "App Management Service Application" DB or "Secure Store" DB Microsoft says
To be determined. Currently not supported because testing is not finished.
For a complete list look here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj841106.aspx
So although AOAG is a great option technically (and perhaps in the long run the strategic option) I would like Microsoft to complete their testing. (unless one is ready to take risk and go where MS itself hasn't gone)

Hello this is a silly question but I was able to copy our old database to another hard drive and do an ATTACH to sql 2012 and it worked great now am I crazy or is this too good to be true
To be specific to your question. You can very well attach SQL 2005 database to SQL server 2008 and SQL server 2012.But how your application will respond to New database will be difficult to tell.
I strongly recommend you to see below link

Hi:
According to all the Reporting Services logs my Reporting Point was setup correctly. When I try and run any report I see the entries below in the srsrp.log on the SQL Server. The report names show up in the Console but when I right any of the
listed reports I get errors and no report runs.
I am running SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 on a remote server. SQL is installed on its own server. There is no firewall between the Configuration Manager server and SQL Server.
Thanks.
