White iMac (6.1) 24inch will not install mountain lion
I have a white 24 inch iMac (6.1) 2.33 Ghz intel core 2 duo, I purchased it just before the silver ones came out, don't remember when exactly but its not compatible with Mountain Lion.
I find it very hard to believe that its obsolete so quick, I have the floating lamp iMac (best design) , G5 20 inch iMac and looks like this one is now joining them in the basement.
Per Kappy:
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
7. Xserve (Early 2009)
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?

HT1338 Mac App Store will not install Mountain Lion update
I am having an issue where I try to install the 10.8.4 update from the Mac App Store. I click on the button and it says it needs to restart to install. I tell it to restart and install but it does nothing. I get the Mac App store back with it asking me to install the update again. Looking at the infobox I see that I am still on 10.8.3.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
ThanksGive this a try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo). -

There is nothing to overcome, your mac is too old to run Mountain Lion. For an iMac it must be a (Mid 2007 or newer) http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ -
New MacBook Pro will not download Mountain Lion. The App store simply has a dead download button. Any help?

My mac pro will not accept mountain lion how do i access older os
my mac pro will not accept mountain lion how do i access older os
Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo, it can only be upgraded to 10.6.8; Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are available in the online Apple Store.
If it's a Core 2 Duo, follow the instructions for the Core Duo, phone the online Apple Store, and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

Airport express was blinking yellow. Tried to update, but my computer said update is not supported (yellow exclamation points). I have a mac pro with Lion and latest updates. So I reset express, yes that was a mistake because it was at least functioning on my stereo, now it does not function at all and shows on my wifi as "airport express", used to be labled "stereo". So it asks for an update, I download the update, but computer will not allow update to be installed. I will buy a newer one if I have to because I enjoy it's function, but I will be extremely disgusted with Apple to have to do so.
If you are using Lion...as you indicate...is it possible that you mistakenly downloaded the incorrect version of AirPort Utility?
Try the following version for Lion:
AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion -
HT5022 AirPort Utility 5.6 will not install on Lion
I have an older airport express and I'd like to be able to manage it the new Aiprot utulity is not compatible and the older version of Airport Utility 5.6 is not able to be installed on Lion.
Be sure that you are attempting to install the correct version (5.6) that is designed to work on OS X Lion. You can download it directly from Apple Support here.

2008 iMac hung after reboot. Recently installed Mountain Lion.
My 2008 iMac will not reboot after freezing. I had recently added additional RAM to get to 6GB prior to upgrading to Mountain Lion. Everything was fine for two days. However, yesterday Bluetooth was dropped and not showing as being avaialable (managed to fix that). This morning it froze and will not reboot. I am getting the grey screen of death even after trying to reboot in safe mode.
I have also tried an SMC reset with no luck.
Any suggestions? For what it's worth a situation very similar to yours happened to my 2007 iMac last Saturday. Thanks to Time Machine I was able to erase my hard drive then restore it from a back up. However in no time flat, after I'd opened a few apps, it crashed again. When I attempted another restore it crashed *during* it (grey screen of death!) and I had to conclude my iMac's hard drive had died.
I've since heard, from both an Apple Store Genius and the techies who replaced my busted drive, that an iMac's hard drive lifespan is often around 3 years.
Maybe your hard drive has died?
Good luck! It's very frustrating.

Downloading but not installing Mountain Lion?
I have a MacBook Pro with Retina display purchased since June 11 so I qualify for the free upgrade to Mountain Lion. I understand that I have 30 days to get the software for free once it is released. On the other hand, I would like to wait before installing the software until 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 are released to let some of the bugs be ironed out first. Is it possible to download ML but not install it (within the 30 day period)?
I would do as stated above except that I would set the install location to an external drive and then when the download finishes disconnect the external.
The reason for this is you may not have the option to NOT reboot the system after the download finishes. And even if you do have that option at the time the download finishes the next time the system reboots it may be set, in the EFI system or through some command placed on the hard rive, to start the install automatically.
At this time no one really knows how Mountain Lion will react when downloaded from the Mac App Store.
Also putting the download on an external drive allows to to actually install it to that external and run it from there to check it out before you do the install on your internal drive. -
I have a colleague with a 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo on which he has Snow Leopard. He needs to move to Lion 10.7 but can't find how, and his Mac (which is the same as mine) is not able to download Mountain Lion.
I see that when I downloaded Lion, I should have made a Disc as back up. However, I did not do this, does anyone know how to move to Lion ?
Appreciate advice and instructions.

Can not installed mountain lion msg" macintosh hd is using for time machine back up" please help
I downloaded mountain lion but can not install, msg" macintosh HD is using for time machine back up , how can I change that...thanks
Somehow, a Backups.backupdb folder got created on your startup drive.
You won't find it via a Spotlight or Finder search, so open your internal HD via the Finder.
That folder is at the top level. Just delete it. -
To Install or not Install Mountain Lion?
That is the question. Purchased ML for my 2009 MBP. Read lots of negative comments. My primary purpose was to get Boot Camp 5 so I could partition a drive for Windows 7.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have Snow Leopard, you can also install Windows 7 in your MacBook Pro without any problem. Also, you can't use Boot Camp 5 drivers in your Mac, so you have to install the Boot Camp 4 drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630
Open Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) and follow the steps. I recommend you to follow the Apple's steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf After installing Windows, install the Windows support software from the USB drive you created before.
OS X Mountain Lion is much better than OS X Lion for most users. If you don't want to upgrade, OS X Mavericks will be released in fall with new features > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview -
Unable to download mountain lion. Talking to a apple rep I understand I can download lion. 2006 intel mac desk top (snow leopard). It may not be worth the effort. The plan was to download mountain lion. (Unable to download lion. Not available in the USA.) Any advise would be welcome
Likewise, I compute w/Snow Leopard and play with the last two cats. http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/mountainlion/ covers it well (also apropos for Lion):
It's all about making your Mac and your iPhone and iPad work better together. If you haven't embraced iOS, Apple's touch-based iPhone/iPad operating system, there are some nice enhancements for the Mac itself but little that is groundbreaking. -
HP p1006 will not install on Lion 10.7
I have an HP Laserjet P1006 printer. I have updated my software with software update several times. I have also downloaded the updated drivers for HP from Apple dated April 2013, which I noticed in another posting.
When I attempt to add a new printer the OS recognizes a P1006 is connected to the USB port and indicates that the drivers are available from Apple. But, any attempt to install the driver causes an internet search that ends with a failure message indicating that the driver software is not currently available from Apple. There appears to be no manual solution. Every attempt to install the printer leads to the same combination of messages indicating the software is available from Apple but then a failure to retrieve it.
Thanks!
