Why an separate App Domain is needed to configure App Service Application in SP2013

https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/sites/devwiki/articles/pages/configure-an-environment-for-apps-for-sharepoint-2013.aspx
SharePoint 2013 Apps have their own, isolated URLs, which are separate from the URLs of the sites where the app is being deployed to and where the app is being used. In order to provide isolation apps should run in their own domain, instead of in the same
domain name as your farm. Using a different domain name for apps helps prevent cross-site scripting between apps and SharePoint sites.
Microsoft recommends that the new domain name should NOT be a subdomain of the domain that hosts the SharePoint Sites. For example, if the SharePoint sites are at matrinescu.com, consider mcatrinescuApps.com instead of app.mcatrinescu.com as the domain name.

  • Separate Apps ... Separate App Server Installations?

We are purchasing Oracle App Server. Can 2 separate applications utililize a single installation of App Server? If not, can the separate installations either be on 2 separate physical servers or 2 virtual servers?
    Thanks

Thanks for your response - I'll try to be more clear.
We have 2 applications - App A and App B. Each uses Oracle Application Server (OAS) AKA Internet Application Server (IAS). We have Server1 with OAS/IAS installed on it. Can App A and App B each use the OAS/IAS installation on Server1 or does App A need to run on Server1 and App B on Server2?

  • Newbie in need assistance configuring iChat server (LDAP).

I needs some assistance in setting up iChat server for our office. I running LDAP and I have the iChat server basics setup and it is working, however my boss wants to set up different domains in iChat for the various departments (i. e. Accounting, Sales, production, etc.). These will not be accessed outside of the building. He states I need to configure additional search bases. It is at this point I am drawing a blank.

    Hi Paul,
    An intersetng one.
James Weston may be able to post more on this.
iChat can Chat to other Macs using the Bonjour option
    (Click the Apple/Command key + 2 together)
Bonjour has to be enabled in the Account section of iChat Preferences.
All computers have to be in the same subnet
This is going to be the sticking point.
Lets say you have one routing device for your local net and it issues all computers and devices with IP Addresses in the range 192.168.1.xxx then all the computers on on the same Subnet as there is only one LAN.
If you have subsequent routers that change the IP addresses to somethng like 192.168.1.xxx for sales and 192.168.2.xxx fo accounts etc, then you will have subnets. Computers in 192.168.1.xxx will only see other Bonjour/iChat computers in that group and the same for 192.168.2.xxx but not from group to group.
To show up in the Bonjour window iChat takes the Address Book Me card entry of the MAc user account and broadcasts it to the other computers.
This would give you an option of using this method to pass out information where people were. The revelant "Sales" or "Accuounts" could be added to their Real Names.
(Bonjour would have problems if several computers were changed to read just Sales as the Address Book name).
An alternative would be to set up a VPN and have all computers on the same network for Bonjour independent of any of network they were on.
James knows more about networks than I do and may have other information that may help.

  • Integrated ITS in a Separate App Server (DI) for Security and LoadBalancing

    Hi Experts,
I have a specific requirement for ITS Configuration.
    1. Production Server ( CI + DB ) -> Existing
    [ ERP6.0 ]
    OS : Solaris 10
    DB : oracle 10.2.0.2
    H/W: PRIMEPOWER650
    Unicode Enabled
    2. Application Server ( DI ) --> to be made ( and to be used exclusively for Web users)
    OS : Windows2003 sv
    H/W: RX200 S3
    x64
    MEM: 8GB
No. 1 is existing Production Server Environment.
    The Customer Requirement.
The Customer wants to use the ITS . But he doesn't want the existing Production Server to be disturbed for the same for 2 reasons. [ Security and Load Balancing ]
We are planning to create a Separate Application Server (DI) to work as ITS.
As the Kernel is 700. The ITS is integrated into the Production Server by Default.
We have written to SAP and have asked whether the Production Server ITS can be disabled and the Separate DI's ITS be enabled so that the NEW ( No.2 ) Application Server will be used for ITS activities.
SAP has replied saying the Integrated ITS cannot be disabled at the Production Server. Instead as an alternative we can create a Logon Group (using transaction SMLG) and divert all the Web users to the Separated DI (No.2). We have decided to go according to SAP.
Now I have the following questions :
    1. The Operating Systems of the Production Server (No.1) and the Separate AP (No. 2)
are different. ( Are there any complexities involved or must do points to be taken care. )
    2. Brief / MUST DO tasks at the Production Server Environment and Must do tasks at the DI Environment.
I hope someone has already done some few installations on the above combination, if so, request to please share me your ideas.
    Thanks in anticipation

my earlier discussion on the same topic on this community.
    ITS Specific Requirement

    Hi Markus,
    Thanks for the Reply.
We have the following 2 plans :
    Plan-01.
As you have advised, we will try to disable ITS of CI and enable ITS of DI.
    Plan-02.
If Plan-01 could be worked out successfully, well implement as per SAP suggests. Creating a Logon Group and divert all the web users to the DI alone.
To deactivate ITS on CI, you have mentioned to make sure, that the  system does not listen on the HTTP port (transaction SMICM) on the Servers
BTW, I have seen a parameter called <b>ITSP/ENABLE</b>. if we deactivate this parameter at CI & DB and then activate the same parameter at DI.
    My questions to you :
    1. Shall we go for Plan-01 ignoring what SAP OSS has said. ?
    2. Disable ITSP/Enable Parameter  -> CI & DB
Enable ITSP/Enable Parameter   -> DI          has to be implemented .
    Thanks & best Regards,
    Paguras
PS: Sorry for always pounding you with so many questions on the same topic.
SAP Help on ITSP / enable parameter
    itsp/enable
You use this parameter to deactivate (0) or activate (1) the integrated ITS. Even if the integrated ITS is activated, it only accesses system resources when it is actually used. Nevertheless, it can make sense to deactivate it to prevent users from accessing the SAP system with SAP GUI for HTML via special application servers (such as batch or update instances). Since the conversion of SAP screens into HTML pages uses additional CPU time, it makes sense to reserve a number of dedicated application servers to be used with SAP GUI for HTML and to use a special logon group to balance the load between them.

  • Need hardware configuration for server

    Hi All,
Need server hardware configuration for deploying and maintaining SSAS cube. Consider OLTP size as 100 GB
    Thanks,
    ATRSAMS

    Hi Atrsams,
According to your description, you need some hardware recommendations for deploying and maintaining a SQL Server Analysis Services cube, right?
Though this isn't a sizing recommendation, I'd encourage you to buy as much memory as you can afford. This is generally the choke point I've seen on servers, especially when using SSAS. For the detail information about it, please refer to the links below.

  • ACE 4710 - need help configuring backend server monitoring

Currently running an ACE 4710, which is handling all of our inbound SSL connections and then forwarding requests thru
to backend web servers. This all works fine.
My question is this..Right now we are not load balancing any of the backen web servers. But I now have a requirement that should
a web server crash or become unavailable I need to redirect that backend connection to another web server.
Scenario is more like I have 2 web servers both serving same content, but I want one server to take all the connections unless it fails, at that point
have all the connections forwarded to 2nd server.
Is there a way to setup the load balancing where the 1st server gets all the connections until a failure happens ?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

    Hi Dave,
You can use sorry-server or backup server feature. details can be found at

  • Office web Apps server Lync 2013

    Hi All,
I have logged onto my Volume licensing site and could not search Office Web Apps servers for download?? I wonder how do i download it?

    Hi channavera,
Office Web Apps Server was removed from the Microsoft Download Center.  Now it only was available for
download under Volume Licensing agreements.  For more information please read the FAQ below or visit the site Volume Licensing
    Service Center.
    FAQ
Why is Web Apps Server being removed from the Microsoft Download Center?
VLSC is best suited as the location from which to serve all customers according to their agreements with Microsoft.
What about existing installations?  Do I need to re-license them?
No.  Web Apps Server installations and/or downloads that occur before 11/24/14 will continue to be licensed for free viewing.
Will there be an evaluation version for Developers and IT Pros?
Evaluation availability will continue on MSDN for subscribers.  Additionally, Volume License agreements allow for product evaluation.

  • Do you need to purchase Application Server license for WebCenter Suite?

Before the BEA product merger, WebCenter was sold as a separate license on top of the Application Server license. Now with the new pricing of 125K, does this mean you have to pay for a separate App Server license or is the new pricing included with an App Server license?

Appserver licenses need to be purchased separately

  • Why do we have separate apps for phone, messages, and contacts?

I'm trying to reduce the number of apps that I need to run, and this one just boggles my mind.
Why do we have separate apps for phone, messages, and contacts?
The messages is to tightly coupled to the phone, that it doesn't make any sense for them to be separate.
The contacts app is nothing more then looking at the contacts from the phone app.
    What's the story here?
Does it have something to do with the contacts also being part of email app?
Actually, that's my other biff... why are they entangled as such?
Phone contacts should have phone#, email contacts should have email addresses.
If you want a contact to have both phone# and email address, then the two apps (phone/email) should be combined.

The contacts app is nothing more then looking at the contacts from the phone app.
    What's the story here?"
The forums would be full of people complaining that you had to go through an additional step ( opening the phone app) to get to contacts.  I use the contacts app from the home screen far more often then I use it in relation to calling someone.
I like the way it is far more than the way you propose.

  • Why we need SSL Certificates for configuring App Server in Sharepoint

    Hi Support,
We are planning to have a separate server for Apps, while configuring the server its asking for certificate. The main scenario is while configuring server inside the same firewall why we need SSL for configuring.
Could you please let me know the reason why we need SSL for configuring App Server.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hi  Pradeep,
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a transaction security standard that provides encrypted protection between browsers and App Servers. When SSL is enabled for an App Server, browsers communicate with the App
Server by means of an HTTPS connection, which is HTTP over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer. HTTPS connections are widely used by banks and web vendors for secure transactions over the web.
Secure Sockets Layer  is a requirement for web applications that are deployed in scenarios that support server-to-server authentication and app authentication. This is such a scenario. As a prerequisite
for configuring Task Synchronization, the computer that is running SharePoint Server must have SSL configured.

  • R12 - Using SOA - Do you need a separate Apps tier?

Hi All, looking at SOA suite at the moment and have a question about what installs are needed.
I have 12.0.0 installed on Linux with the standard technology stacks out of the box. (Will be upgrading to 12.0.6 but not for the next 8 weeks) I want to be able to use SOA suite and my question is a basic one on software install requirements.
When I look at SOA Suite I can see that this is shown as App Server 10g Release 3. (10.1.3.x) on the Oracle site. Now I already have 10.1.3 from the R12 install. Do I need to download SOA Suite (App server 10g R3) and have an additional Apps server install or can you patch the R12 one if this is possible/required?
Appreciate any info from those using SOA with Oracle Apps R12 who can confirm installs etc. I am going for the most straight forward solution initially as want to spend more time looking at SOA before deciding to use in earnest. If the most straight forward way is to download the SOA Suite as an additional apps server tier then so be it.
    Cheers Cel

    Celwyn,
I do not have SOA integrated with R12, but what I know is you need to install SOA in a different ORACLE_HOME on an existing E-Business Suite Release 12 application-tier server or on a server that is physically separate from an existing E-Business Suite Release 12 Applications server (recommended).

  • I needed to remove some apps why dident the apps on page 3 move over page 2 ??????

I just had to delete some of unimportant apps because I needed the space, why won't apps from the other pages slide over in the voids instead of leaving me with pages with what looks like swiss cheese ?????

    That's how it is.
For example, I hide some bundled apps I don't want or need on page 4 of my menus. And i can do that because I can have a void.

  • Why do the apps my daughters download to their Touch's download to my iPhone when I sync my phone? We all separate Apple ID's.

Why do the apps my Daughters download to their iPod Touchs Sync to my iPhone when I plug it into to Sync with iTunes?

You can but you're not going to like it (takes a bit of work). I'll give you two options: one is a definite fix and one is a sort of fix...
    1. If you really want to solve this issue and be organised then you should create different computer user accounts for all the constituents in your household. Once that's done move all of their music, apps, books, videos out of yours and into their's (by using an external hard drive or USB drive).
    2. This is a sort of fix. If it's only apps you are concerned about, there is a option to not automatically sync newly purchased apps to your phone. Plug your phone into the computer and go to the phone preference's Apps tab. There is a option to auto sync apps, just make sure that's not checked.

  • Can i use office web app server without adding to a domain ?

spserver.local is my domain controller webapp.spsserver.local is my office web app server(OWA)(IP:79.123.161.xxx )
I manage to use office web app with sharepoint 2013 my OWA is in a domain (spserver.local) and it's address is http://webapp.spserver.local/hosting/discovery There
is no problem. But I want to seperate OWA with Sharepoint and its domain I want to remove the domain. Is it possible?
For example my OWA's ip is 79.123.161.xxx
I want to work like this: http://79.123.161.xxx/hosting/discovery
When I enter the path http://79.123.161.xxx/hosting/discovery there
is an iis message "File or directory not found."

Are you asking if you can have your OWA in different domain compared to SharePoint server domain or are you asking that your OWA does not belong to any domain and you still want to use it with SharePoint?
If your question is regarding using OWA in different domain then I think (someone can correct me if I am wrong) OWA can run into different domain. You just need to add your SharePoint Server host domain to the Allow List for an Office Web Apps Server farm.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219459.aspx
If your question is related to OWA not belonging to any domain then I do not think that will work and its not supported scenario. If you read the following article it states
"All servers in the Office Web Apps Server farm must be part of a domain. They can be in the same domain (recommended) or in domains that are in the same forest. However, Office Web Apps Server won’t work if you try to install it on a domain controller."

  • I have two separate iTunes libraries on two separate Computers. I need to consolidate them so I can play them on a brand new computer. How do I do this so I can play them off an External Hard Drive on my brand new computer?

I have two separate iTunes libraries on two separate Computers. I need to consolidate them so I can play them on my brand new computer. How do I do this so I can play them off an External Hard Drive on my brand new computer?

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.
