Why did I pay to upgrade to Elements 8?

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with Adobe. Not just for Elements 8, which yesterday drove me to the brink of wanting to throw my computer out my ninth-floor window. But also from this website, which, once again, did not remember who I was, despite my logging in as myself. All my previous posts have vanished. It asked me to create a screen name, which I'd already done once or twice, and then told me the one I have, EdHoover, was in use. Y'think? That's because I'm using it! After backing out six times, it finally just put me logged in as such. (But all my history is gone.)
Anyway, the reason for this post: Elements 8 is terrible. It is in no way an improvement on 7.
It sucks up memory. I have a 4GB Windows Vista computer that runs anything -- anything -- like a song. Except PSE8. It routinely puts my CPU usage at 100%. I know a lot of the problem has to do with the Auto Analyzer; I made the mistake of using that, and I've read elsewhere here that there's no real way to quit using it. One must force-quit it from the Task Manager in order to stop it (even after PSE8 has been closed); immediately afterward, CPU usage goes back to normal.
The user experience in Editor has been changed from what worked in the past to something new. Usually, when you make these tweaks, they improve the user experience; here, they're just annoying. I'm talking about how Adjustment Levels are treated, and the very minor detail of when I hit "reset" while making a levels adjustment, the active tool does not stay on the eye dropper, so I have to go back and click it all over again. (They've even got rid of the shortcut for "reset" - you can't press R for that anymore, you have to go click it.)
Another annoying change: the New Layer/New Adjustment Layer, etc. buttons are now at the bottom of the layers menu, which is very annoying - they used to be right up at the top, very close to where you were already working. Now you have to go out of your way to do them.
My Elements keeps crashing. Probably related to its memory suckage. But it's been crashing a lot lately.
Probably related to the crashing, but every time I now launch PSE8, I have to go "take the tour" to see what's new in PSE8, as if it's the first time I'm opening the program. EVERY BLOODY TIME. There is no way to cancel out of this; I have to go through THE ENTIRE STUPID TOUR I DON'T CARE ABOUT before I can actually get to work.
That's all I can think of at the moment. But I have to get this rant out on this forum, because apparently to send feedback to Adobe only entails suggesting a feature (here's one: make your product suck less) or reporting a bug, which is too limiting and specific for the problems I'm receiving.
And oh yeah, I'm totally saving this in Word, because I know as soon as I click Submit it'll give me an error and lose what I've written.

Regarding #5, you shouldn't have to take any kind of tour to use the program.
If there's a problem with your Photoshop.com account, like if it's full, it can cause issues like this with the Welcome screen. Basically, there's an error dialog displaying, which basically "freezes" the Welcome Screen, but the animation is appearing on top of the error so you can't close the error. (In a lot of cases, you can press Space bar and it'll close the error.)
To get beyond this:
Open Editor (from Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe) or Organizer (from Program Files\Adobe\Elements Organizer 8.0\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe).
At the top of the application, you'll see something that says "Welcome Ed" (or just "Welcome" with the name tied to your account after it). Click on this.
When the dialog pops up asking for your password, don't enter it and instead click Sign Out.
You should then be able to start the application in the usual way without having to sit through the animation.
If this works, then it likely means there's an issue with your Photoshop.com account. If you don't use it, then just don't sign back in.
If you do use it, though, then you'll want to find out what problem there is. The most common thing I see is that you're account has filled up. In any case, just log into the Photoshop.com website and you should be able to discover the issue quite readily.

Why did I pay $54 for a code?  All I got was a 30 day trial and the opportunity to buy Photoshop Elements for $99.  I am very upset.

The redemption code is used to get a serial number, which you enter into the trial or download version to activate it. If you're having trouble with the link in your receipt, try the link on this page:

I cant even get into itunes because it wont recognize it to do a reboot or a rollback.

  • FAQ: I opted out of marketing email from Adobe. Why did I get an email about Elements membership?

Q: I opted out of marketing email from Adobe. Why did I get an email about Elements membership?
A: The email you received was an operational notice regarding changes to Elements membership. Only users who may be affected by these changes received this email.

    Hi Steve,
I can personally ensure you get it if after waiting the 60 days you still haven't recieved it yet.
You would also want to ensure:
    - You have the annual (yearly) Creative Cloud plan
    - You log into the Creative Cloud website from within 3 of the Adobe Touch Apps from the tablet using your Adobe ID associated with your membership
If all this looks correct and you don't recieve an email after the 60 days, send me a private message and I'll ensure you get it.

Ive installed it and have noticed no difference.............have you?

    That's a point fo confusion.
If your MacBook has a Core 2 Duo processor (64-bit) and not the earlier Core Duo processor (32-bit), you can run 64-bit versions of Apple's applications. Whether the speed improvements are mostly because of this "64-bit'ness" or mostly because Apple re-coded the bundled apps (such as the all-important Finder) to be more efficient, I'm not so sure. Apple did optimize their code to reduce bloat, and it is supposedly a lot more than just removing the PowerPC code. This article has a good high level explanation.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/142379/2009/08/snowleopard_64bit.html
The other layer for 32 versus 64-bit discussion is in the core of the OS itself, the kernel. Apple seems to be playing it safe initially, and all Macs (except for Xserve servers) are running the 32-bit kernel by default. This may be to ensure third-party software compatibility during the transition to 64-bit. The more recent Macs are capable of switching to the 64-bit kernel on startup. Older Core 2 Duo Macs (that can run 64-bit apps) cannot use the 64-bit kernel. This web page (with related utility) has a good consolidate explanation, although I cannot confirm everything is 100% accurate.
    http://www.ahatfullofsky.comuv.com/English/Programs/SMS/SMS.html
So there are really two levels. 64-bit applications and the 64-bit kernel. 64-bit apps can run with the 32-bit kernel just fine, as long as your iMac has Core 2 Duo processors. I'm just going to keep things +as is+, and not worry about it. Snow Leopard is running great, and that's good enough for me no matter what part is 64-bit and what part is not.

I didn't even have time to cancel the preorder as that processed a couple minutes before the bundle was posted.
Pre-orders are apparently not worth my time ever again.

  • Why did I pay money to upgrade the software on my Ipod touch so it would become a paperweight?

My girlfriend rarely changes the music on her Gen 1 Ipod Touch and I thought it would be a nice suprise if I payed to update the software on there for her to breath new life in an older device. To my suprise the next time she tried to change her music on her ipod it would freeze up itunes and now her phone is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen. I already tried doing the system recovery 3 times and it looks like something is happening but after the restore is complete it comes back up to the connecting to iTunes screen and won't do anything else. Other than the latest software update and changing songs occasionally nothing has been done to this device.

Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes): This issue is typically caused by out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software. Please followTroubleshooting security software issues if USB troubleshooting does not resolve this issue.

  • Why should I pay for upgrade to CS6 twice?

    Dear Adobe,
I upgraded from photoshop CS3 to Photoshop CS5 last November as you said we will be not able to upgrade from CS3 to CS6 directly anymore. And now, you changed your mind and users are still able to upgrade from older versions. If I would wait couple of months like others I would pay only once. Please, would you try to explain your business strategy? How should we trust you are not going to change your mind and rules every month?
    Thank you for your explanation.
    Kind regards,
    Filip Zamorsky

And...Add my name to the list. I began another thread but I was told about this one. It's the same story as you all, I'm just not going to be ignored by customer service. Adobe caused the problem, Adobe should fix it.
Has anybody found a magic way to get customer service help? I have been waiting since last Tuesday for my problem to be resolved and I've been getting absolutely no understanding or willingness to take ownership of my problem.  I have chatted online with 8 different people. Each time making painstaking attemts to explain the situation as being different than the "free upgrade" window that is posted on adobe.com.
    Here is the situation.
Adobe said that we MUST upgrade to CS5 in order to upgrade to CS6.
In February, I upgraded from CS4 to CS5 based on item 1.
I went online last week to upgrade to CS6 from CS5 when I saw that I didn't have to spend the money to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 afterall.
Based on that, I feel I should be able to upgrade to CS6 without having to pay an addition $199.00.
Adobe said I had to upgrade so I did. That cost me $199.00 three months ago.
Now Adobe wants me to spend another $199.00 to get CS6.
I will not do that. I wouldn't have spent the first $199.00 if Adobe hadn't said it was necessary. It wasn't necessary afterall so I shouldn't be penalized for believing Adobe.
This is like the guy who's told he has a week to live so he gives away all of his earthly belongings. Then the doctor tells him he didn't mean it.
Now, On Wednesday, I got my request elevated to "concern group". They will contact me within 72 hours. That must be 72 business hours because I have not been concated.
So, Monday, I had to go through the entire scenerio for the umteenth time and again was assured the "concern group" would contact me withing 24 hours. I didn't believe the rep, based on my previous lack of contact and asked how I can contact the "concern group" myself so I don't have to go through this entire process again. The "concern group" is offline, no way to contact them but "I ASSURE YOU" you will hear from them withing 24 hours. Well, 48 hours later, I'm totally in a very hateful mood. I opened another chat session and rather than submitting that person on the other end to my venom, I just pasted my chat from Monday and said goodbye. Of couse, it's not going to do any good either.
I saw a message board online yesterday, and today I can't find it, where people in my same situation received their upgrade to CS6 with no addition cost.
I know it's being done but Customer service is so...aggravating that I believe it's a way to make people just give up and go away. Not this time.

  • Why did Mail do an upgrade/import after Time Machine restore?

I just did a full Time Machine restore of my Mac after a hard drive issue (Yosemite). Everything looks OK overall, but when I launched Mail.app, it did a full upgrade/import, as though I'd just upgraded from an earlier version and needed to update the database. Is that normal? Why is it necessary? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
exclamation point when trying to view an individual image).
The exclamation point is an indication that iPhoto has lost the link/file path to the original file. Are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
If you're running a "managed" library try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select last three options.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Why did the 6.1 upgrade put my phone into restore mode?

My phone was working fine and when it started loading the 6.1 update, it instantly caused my phone to crash and now it's in recovery mode and I can't do anything to get it back.  I have used a number of computers connecting to iTunes and it will not restore no matter what I do.  I have followed all the instructions listed on Apple's website and nothing.  I think Apple should be responsible for the phone and replace it.  It anyone have any ideas how I can get it restored?

Thank you for contacting us, Brian51.
I am sorry you had to encounter these problems when you upgraded your phone's software.
You already did some things that we would have you do (sync with iTunes) since that didn't work, it would be best to replace the device under the warranty replacement guidelines.
The store can process the order for you if you aren't able to call us at 800.922.0204 from a different phone.

  • Free upgrade to elements and premiere 12

Why is it that my upgrade to elements and premiere 12 which was approved on 3rd October and address confirmed 4 weeks ago has still not been processed? In chat 2 weeks ago I was told it would be finalised in 24 hours but this did not happen.

I'm sorry you're having trouble, tmusic409, but unfortunately this is the user to user forum and we're just other adobe customers like you, so there's not much we can do about this. You would do better to contact adobe directly.

  • Why did I was my $$$ to upgrade to 4 cpu, only to have Elements 9 crash alot???

This is so very fustrating, and I strongly regret wasting my $$$ and upgrading to Elements 9. All the research I did, all said Adobe was the best. Period, The End.
I wanted to start to play with movies, and not just photo's any longer, so I upgraded my dual core CPU to a quad core CPU with 7gb memory, and 1 Terabyte of disk space.
Adobe Elements and Premier Elements seem to crash more often then now. This is even after a clean instal of WIn 7 64 bit on a brand new 1tb disk.
A few weeks ago, I successfully created a WMV file. Now, today, I can play it successfully from within Adobe, but try to save as WMV, and it constantly crashes with an exception around 8% complete.
Even when the system does not crash, it's pathetically slow, and definitely seems like a mistake going with this bloatware.
Any suggestions on how to make this horrible experience with Adobe Element/Premier 9, would be appreciated.
    Thanks
