Why for did my attempt to restore 3.0 actually upgrade to 3.1.2?
Ok.. so.. with all the earlier discussions of issues with various versions, I did the 3.1 upgrade a while ago, and man.. what a difference in battery life.
Everything else worked great, no hiccups in any operation.. well.. wait.. I did notice that my cal and contacts wouldn't sync to or from my iphone automatically anymore, but...
either way..
some real "battery life" experience with my 3G iPhone..
I could go for a few days without having to plug my iPhone in. A few hours of use, lots of phone calls, some GPS mapping, some safari surfing, not too much iTunes, and at least 2 full days and maybe most of a 3rd day before having to plug the phone in.
After updating to 3.1, I had to go buy a charging cable to keep with me in my truck!! cuz my phone died on me several times while driving!!
I had gotten to the point where i would have something like 1 day and 16 hours since last recharge, with 3 hours of operation, and phone would go to sleep, having to be plugged in to wake up.
Now, if i do any amount of anything with the phone, it will not last the day. (missed some important business phone calls as a result of battery discharge)
There has been no difference in operation or settings (3G on, WiFi on, push mail on, etc.. )
It has just been a downward spiral for the battery life.
I decided to attempt a restore to my previous firmware 3.0, and went thru the steps... but was concerned when presented with a panel to Download the new 3.1.2 version that was now available.
I selected the version I wanted to restore, but when everything was back up and running, my phone now has 3.1.2 !
Am I correct in recalling (reading somewhere) that these backups are NOT the firmware? and are just the apps and settings??

Attempt to install Mountain Lion has highlighted need for internal disk repair. Even after "repair" ML still says disk is damaged. Attempt to restore from Time Machine back-up failed - cannot 'see' internal HD to restore to. Help! Has attempt to install ML caused these problems or just highlighted existing need to Repair Disk? I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted). Any advice on how to manage multiple drives gratefully received. And thanks again for previous replies.

Why the **** did apple get rid of the dark keyboard for iOS 7.1?!
Apparently Apple was going to install a dark keyboard for the iPhone, but decided to get rid of it. What the ****! Does anyone know why?
They DIDN't! It's STILL THERE, but at present YOU AREN't allowed to use it! It exists in at least two instances, only one of which I KNOW what I was doing when I stumbled upon it, signing in with my Apple ID and password to the AppStore!
Before I get into details, I suppose it could also be replicated by seeing if one could sign in with a secondary Apple ID on any given device as well..
Details that may be specific to this versus everyone else that made this happen and stand out:
I DID NOT sign in when setting up, because quite frankly, I DON'T "want" my devices, data, bookmarks and such all cloud synchronized and changed so as to be uniform across ALL devices, because it's of NO USE to me! I use diddle rent devices for different things and thus have some set up with just a few bookmarks. Don't WANT home sharing, or sir play and know how to back my own things up.
If this "makes sense to you" or "isn't exactly how that works" IS NOT the issue, I'm simply explaining why for the next part below for possibly replicating this should anyone want proof they can perhaps do on their device as well.
So when I went to get some other web browsers at the AppStore, I had to sign in, because in general web browsers have Age Restricted Content Warnings.., AND THERE IT WAS! I didn't think quickly enough to screen capture it, but it IS there, as a "secured keyboard" or something TOO SPECIAL FOR YOU!
If this is a "one time thing when you sign in an account", I don't know.
If this is something that a more adventurous person who enabled Developer Options (which I think is done while connected yo a computer and iTunes, Google it if you care) might be able to enable on their own, I don't know.
I just know that I HAVE had it come up at least twice, and that it seems to be "reserved" for a "special purpose keyboard" for some reason.
And the other instance it showed up during was some swiping that I think brought up the app switcher/kill screen with some sort of a search bar. But however that one happened WAS random.
And returning to something a bit less snarling and foam flecked because, as stated, "just all users here" -

Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.

Hi guys,
this morning my Iphone 4 came up with a message on the screen saying it needed to be restored, i thought it was strange so i rebooted my phone.
Then it just went to the 'connect to itunes' screen like it was a new phone.

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!

Someone changed my password for my iPhone 4. I have attempted to restore my device now for 3 days, continually being hooked up to the computer, continually having to restart, continually having to power off and then place the device in DFU mode. I would LOVE to speak with someone from Apple, the only problem is to even begin to wait in line to chat with an Apple representative, I need my device's serial number to begin the lovely process of waiting in line. How do I A)-Get the device's serial number when it is locked? B)-Begin to wait in line without said serial number? I am beginning to think it would be much easier to just report the device as stolen, then contact my carrier and have them replace this device. Am I doing something wrong for it to take 3+ days to restore? It has the most current, up to date software on the device, why in the world would it take 3+ days to simply restore to factory settings?
If you open it to take out the battery from the iPhone then you forfeit all service for whatever reason from Apple in the future.
Have you attempt to connect it to your computer and then restore it from iTunes on your computer? -
1602 and 1604 Errors When Attempting to Restore/Update iPhone - Please Help
Hi, I've been having trouble with my iPhone 3GS and after wasting many days on trying to solve the problem, I am reaching out for help from those more knowledgeable than me. I have been having this problem for as long as I can remember (I've owned my iPhone for just under a year): whenever I attempt to Restore my iPhone or update its OS, I receive a 1602 or 1604 error on iTunes and the process stops with the iPhone wiped. iTunes refuses to continue the Restore and any further attempts result in the same error. I originally found this work around for the problem after an exhaustive search (4th post down):

However, every time I wish to Restore or update, I have to follow these long, annoying, unusual steps, and, now that I am coming to the end of my year's warranty, I really want to fix this problem, or get it fixed by Apple if this is not possible.
The iPhone restores with no problem on another computer in my house, so I guess the problem is with my computer. I have taken the following steps (often many times over and in combination with each other) in my attempts to fix the problem, but with no success:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
2. Uninstalled and reinstalled iPhone drivers
3. Uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple software and drivers
4. Removed iTunes library, all music and any other iTunes files in music folder
5. Created a new user account, which is free from any old iTunes settings, opened iTunes and plugged in iPhone
6. Used different USB ports
7. Plugged in iPhone after being restored on other computer
I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone please help?

JamesI had all of these problems, and I was able to fix them with the following process. Here is what I did:
My setup:
Apple Max OS 10.4.10, Mac G4, with 3rd party USB 2.0 card.
1. Upgrade to iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4, Restart and repair permissions
2. Purchase the iPod Touch Upgrade - It took two tries to purchase. I had to accept to two agreements, and then got an error. I purchased the upgrade again and got an instruction screen. iTunes appeared to download a very small file.
3. Sync my touch (I still had not upgraded to firmware 1.1.3)
4. The touch synced, but I had no new functions.
5. I clicked upgrade, and downloaded the 165GB file.
6. While the file was downloading I undocked my iPod touch and restarted it.
7. When the download was complete, it gave me an unknown error because my iPod was not connected.
8. I connected My iPod and tried to install the update. After several tries, I always got a 1602 error.
9. I restarted my computer and did a hard restart of my ipod touch. This did not work, I still had 1602 errors.
10. At this point, I chose to RESTORE my iPod Touch.
11. After the restore, I chose not to restore any content, and just tested the firmware update. EVERYTHING worked great!
12. I synced my iPod touch while I watched the keynote. 45 minutes later my sync was complete and 14 Gig of content was restored. The new functions are great. I have already read my .Mac email.

While attempting to restore my friend's iPod Touch I got several error messages after which, ultimately, I would be unable to complete the restoration.
When I first connected the iPod touch to my MacBook Pro I received this error message:
I therefore attempt to update it's software and find that it has been updated to the latest version (iOS 6.0).
I move on to restore and regardless of whether or not I choose to back up I receive this error message:

However, this page was last updated in October of 2012 and I seem to remember the new iTunes update happening after that.

Reinstalled Firefox and lost my bookmarks, attempted to restore, but is only giving me todays date.
I was on live chat with a Norton specialist and they deleted/reinstalled my Firefox so fast that I didn't even have time to ask him if he saved my bookmarks. When I did ask him about the bookmarks, he said he was not trained in Firefox, but that the bookmarks could be restored.
I've attempted to restore the bookmarks as directed, but they give me the current date 2/13/13(reinstall date) of which I don't have any bookmarks? How do I recover my bookmarks? Do I need to restore my pc to an earlier version?try these together;
